Hello everyone

If I could ask you to do something:
Look at the Guild Wars 2 Discussion front page. Read the thread titles. Enter the threads and give the posts a mere glance. Most of it is criticism, either good or bad.
It has been like that a long time.

This isn’t easy to write, but I’ll do my best in any case. Guild Wars 1 was a very good game, and Guild Wars 2 gave me the hopes that they would continue the amazing series, in an up-to-date way, with all the technological options of this era.

However, the manifesto was reduced to dust, a lot of decisions were made that strayed away from the no-grind game we all came to love. GW2 in it’s original state had a lot of flaws, but for a game that just launched, it was great.

My hopes were they would polish the dynamic events, add more skills, add more skins, add more weapons and so much more. Guilds could use a ton of refinement too: missions, halls, management tools… The PvP seemed rather nice too, still judging from a ‘this is a game that just launched’ perspective.

I was dissapointed when none or barely any of the above happened, but I begin to question now: was it realistic? Is it possible to create a game that will always have enough content to satisfy everyone, without becoming a treadmill?

Judging from the fact that it took Anet 5 years to create what we have not, most likely not. 5 YEARS to create what we have today. Only 1 year a half has passed since. We did not get large additions such as expansions, and end-game is still non-existent. To be fair here and there we got polishing of certain things: LFG tool, WXP ranks with a minimal impact, account wallet… but on the other hand we got the dreaded Ascended Armour combined with Living Story that does not compete with expansions.

But was it actually possible for ArenaNet to create a new expansion in 1 year a half’s time? I keep my hopes up by saying: sandboxes! Yet, even there it might not be so easy to let players create their own content.

What are your thoughts? What are the thoughts of the developers themselves? I’m interested, I hope you are too. To ArenaNet: maybe it does help to be honest on this point, it might raise the respect for you as a company.

My thoughts are that GW1 players seems to whine a lot. No wonder that game did need heros, because nobody probably wanna play with you.

The hero thing isn’t needed anymore although it’d be nice that npcs weren’t so helpless in story missions and die so easily, gaining a bad reputation when they’re supposed to be powerful, like Logan or Trahearne. GW1 players can’t be blamed for complaining about most things though~ when you play a game that has 2000 skills, a longer better storyline, better armor and better pvp modes you’d hope the sequel at least had half of that along with all the new stuff.

Agreed.

Apparently if you played GW1 and expected GW2 to be similar, then you end up hating the game. As someone who never played GW1, I love GW2. I think it is perfect for players who have maybe 1-2hrs/day to play. Easy to level, easy to gear, there’s really no downside other than the doomsayers on the forums.

I won’t stop because I can’t stop.

It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….

Okay let’s not paint all Guild Wars 1 players with the same brush. I also played Guild Wars 1 extensively and I really enjoy Guild Wars 2 as well.
