It seems quite clear there is a problem with T6 Mats that is only affecting some people. Some people (as in another post) think you can still get between 1 and 5 an hour through normal play, and that certainly used to be the case for me. But I am seeing probably 1 a week now (15-20 hours play).

That’s almost impossible from a code perspective. A programmer would have to intentionally make it so that different people had different loot tables from others.

I’m not so sure the OP is wrong here. I seem to be luckier than certain guildies on a regular basis. I mean like most of the time. I’m not sure why some people are luckier than others, but that doesn’t mean it’s not true.

You’d expect the RNG to balance eventually. Some people are saying that they aren’t getting the drops. Maybe they’re right.

One theory is that the DR isn’t releasing when people hit it. I never hit DR because I never stay long enough in one place. Again, I’m not saying it’s true, but I wouldn’t exclude the possibility so fast.

One theory is that the DR isn’t releasing when people hit it. I never hit DR because I never stay long enough in one place. Again, I’m not saying it’s true, but I wouldn’t exclude the possibility so fast.

On the other hand, I’ve seen too many distortions of the truth to take the complaints at face value without presentations of compelling evidence. Many posters here interpret everything the way they want to read it, ignore anything they can’t turn into support for their pet peeves, and are not above outright lying.

People seem to have forgotten some basic aspects of the game that are much different from traditional MMOs. For example, gathering nodes are character bound – when ten different players come up to a node of ore, for example, they can mine it ten times, while in most MMOs it will become useless after the first player mines it. Any enemy that drops loot can be “tagged” multiple times, and makes separate loot rolls/drops for each individual. So those same ten individuals can loot the same monster ten times, while in most MMOs the first person to tag it gets the loot.

Also, the TP is cross-server, meaning that if someone on server A sells ten units of ore, someone on server B sells 20 units of ore, and someone on server C sells 30 units of ore, someone on any server can buy 60 units of ore. This floods the marketplace with all those harvested and looted items from multiple servers and drives the prices down because you’re not just competing with a thousand sellers on your server, but a million sellers throughout the game.

As with the salvaging bug last week, it should be pretty easy to spot and offer evidence of any serious problems with the acquisition of items within the game. If someone wants to make these claims, then they can do the research and offer proof to back up their statements.

But there was a bug with drops that Anet acknowledged that lasted a long time. I’m not saying there is or there isn’t. But I’m not so fast to dismiss the possibilty. Obviously, someone would have to keep meticulous records over a long period of time filming every minute they were playing in order for such a complaint to have any proven validity.

“Even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.”

I’m not saying there can’t be a bug, either. But when people post about how Anet intentionally nerfs loot drops and manipulates the market to drive people to buy gems, when doing so would hurt their business far more than anything else they could do, I’m not inclined to simply take these posters’ word for it.

So… if you think there’s a problem, start doing research and prove it. Saying the same things over and over won’t make them become true.

Yep I agree with that. Saying there’s a problem isn’t enough. You have to offer evidence of a problem, preferably video evidence.

Just throwing this out there OP but if you compare loot you might also consider class. For example my main mesmer is so unlucky that I am actually shocked when I get anything at all including whites. It has been like that since launch. My Engi on the other hand has the ability to make it rain loot, consistently. So much that I am not even surprised when she picks up a rare or exco from a random mob.

TBH I am wondering the same thing. My Mesmer can run into a group of 10 with damage numbers flying all over the places and get zero loot. My Warrior accidentally sneeze in the direction of the same mobs and loot come raining down. Sometimes I do like 500 damage on a mob and get a rare from it, sometimes I solo 3 veterans from 100 to 0 and get exactly nil. Dont even get me started on a guardian popping staff, he can be asleep and still get tons of loot in a single sweep. Engineer is like “lawl flamethrower” followed by tripping over riches.

Its really wierd when a game make you feel that the more skills you pop and the more damage you do, the less loot you get. Its probably just RNG, but still that’s how it feel.

The real question is: why is there still such a thing as Diminishing Returns in this game?
And when they’ve answered this, ask them how they plan to word their apology for keeping it in game this long.

Its called the anti-farming code. Been around since the original Guild Wars and yes; it does mean that your individual loot table can be altered based on certain factors. Beyond that, as you said RNG is RNG. And luck is luck. It is fully possible to get a T6 mat with every-single-kill just as it is fully possible to never see one drop. Ever. It all comes down to luck.

“Why is there such a thing as Diminishing Returns in this game?”
Because players grind, farm, and otherwise burn through content much faster than Arena Net intended, and faster than they can produce more. Then those players, being the jerks that they are, come on the forums and complain about the lack of content. Diminishing Returns are just one of the delaying tactics Arena Net is forced to use to preserve their intended content lifespan long enough to produce more.

“How are they going to word their apology for keeping it in the game this long?”
How are we going to word our apology for making the game need it for this long?

I think Tigirius is the best person to ask. I had such bad drops rates that I quit for a while. There seem to be conflictions of we don’t mind farming but we’ll nerf drop rates to the gutter and hit you with DR.

Actually, awhile back (if some remember) there was a bug that affected specific accounts. It basically put a permanent DR on certain accounts to where they were not getting any loot or just terrible loot drops. It was happening to a lot of people, and the Devs eventually looked into it, and found out that certain accounts had this bug.

Wish I could remember the link to that information, so I could link it to you. But it happened awhile back, and who knows, it could be happening again with all the complaints yet again about certain players having just no loot and no luck at drops.

Just be lucky you’re getting something at least. I barely get any drops at all, and when I do, it is mostly junk items. Been playing since beta and I have never got an exotic to drop or any rare materials. I’ve had a few rares in my entire time playing, but otherwise it is nothing but grey or white junk items, and then nothing at all most the time.

With the rng I still have a question on what FORM of RNG they are using. If they are using a psuedo-random number generator and if the SEED number is a fixed number and does not change then you will see a repeating pattern of results over time as it is not a true randomization of possible results. (common form of rng for computers) If the pattern of results that the seed attached to your character or account (again we do not know which) returns “x” set of numbers and someone else has their seed return “y” then it is possible that one person could be luckier then the next.

As far as the anti farm code goes that is something else I would like a bit of information on. Is it per account? Per character? Do you have to spend time away with a specific character doing something else or can you do that something else on another character once you hit the point of DR? I use one toon to do my farming for me, he has all the MF gear but at times I have noticed that his DR seems to be “stuck” even if he has not been used in the game for a couple of days.

Answering these questions may satisfy many people that the rng and DR codes are fair across the board.

Both me and my guildies have experienced downs in drop rates over the past few weeks but most of us then go on to get a couple of decent drops later on. A couple of days ago I got 5 T6 in a 1hr farming session and moaned in guild chat but today I got 18 T6, 2 dyes and one reef rider in 45mins and my friends that complained about T6 drops this week have all got at least one exotic from the world bosses.

RNG is sometimes harsh but it is what it is. I personally will never rule out a hidden factor other than DR…. perhaps DR of an entire map or set of mobs to keep certain items from falling in price. But there’s no proof so maybe its just me and my tinfoil hat. Either way moaning about drops on the forums isnt going to change anything. RNG is RNG.

As far as how it works in Guild Wars 2, I don’t think anyone has figured it out yet. However I can link you some information about how it worked in the original game. As a general rule I just assume the two codes are similar.

http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Anti-farm_code

Official facts
Since the first implementation:
• Farming alone will yield fewer total items than farming with a full party, though more items per individual character.
• Certain items are not affected:
• Repeated map entry does not reduce loot.

Player tests
Confirmed
These theories have been confirmed by multiple players performing a variety of tests under a variety of conditions.
• The drop rate from the first foes killed in the area is less than normal; after several kills, the rate returns to normal.
— Some believe that the governing factor is time; some believe it is both time and number of kills.
— Player researchers speculate that this was implemented to limit boss farming near outposts, but it can be seen near any portal (even if there are no bosses).

Disputed
These hypotheses have strong advocates, but others point to contradictory evidence or insufficient data.
• Killing too many foes too quickly results in lost drops.
— Advocates of this theory recommend spike over AoE damage, to limit the number of simultaneous or near-simultaneous deaths.
— Critics point out that not every foe drops an item and that, necessarily, some of those missing drops will occur during simultaneous kills.
• The drops are seeded when the party enters an area.
— This was tested by having multiple parties enter the same zone at the same time. Researchers counted drops and also looked at drops from specific foes. Their results flew counter to the previous hypothesis.
— Others have not been able to replicate these results (possibly due to the difficulty in synchronizing entry).
• Repeated farming of the same area results in a progressive reduction of drops.
— Players that farm raptors and/or vaettirs are the strongest proponents of this theory.
— Although there are plenty of anecdotal reports, there are very few published results that show the total drops at the beginning of a series of farming runs and the totals late in the series.

Speculative
These hypotheses persist despite the fact that testing would take hundreds of players farming under controlled conditions for dozens of hours each. This does not make them untrue, just unconfirmable.
• The drop rate is affected by external factors:
1. Too many players farming the same area.
2. Time of day (e.g. peaking or hitting minimums every three hours)
The drop rate decreases if your character or account does a lot of farming.
1. This clearly affects drop rates for Treasure.
2. This cannot be confirmed for foe drops (see above).

Is DR bugged and "sticking"on certain people is what I want to know?

This is a serious problem for me and, no, I am not a farmer.

I am a farmer and it’s been sticking to me for months now. Seriously DR is bad and it’s harming the players.

It’s the only explanation because they claim there isn’t anything wrong every time it’s brought up.

I’ve read Vawn’s post about the Wi Flagged thread and it makes me wonder if something like this is happening in this game.

RNG mechanisms like this look great on paper but I’m wondering if something like that is causing DR to stay far too long on my account because I’ve tried all of the suggestions people have made to try to get DR off my character in order to have a semi normal drop rate experience in Orr and in the SS cove events and nothing seems to work.

I know this is long but here’s basically my event experience:

~~ In Orr the creatures are all the same creature in a zone so in order to travel one has to kill on the way over to the enemies that appear temporarily in an event like the Risen attacking the camps in multiple locations. By the time I get there, even with reduced mob counts, I have to fight about ten or so mobs if I’m close (16 if I’m far) so when mobs appear en mass, I’m already in a DR situation because I’ve received my first skull and there’s no drops from the last few mobs I attack.

When I do the temporary event, the mobs appearing in the event add to my DR stack/count so to speak. If I stay in the area like in the two camps that are connected by a tunnel I end up having the same issues.

Originally it was all grey porous bones dropping, but a couple months back it started to drop nothing off of 50% of the mobs I encountered at least. Now logging in feels like a chore because I’ve literally tried everything. I’ve tried teleporting to a nearby teleport, I’ve tried zoning into the next zone over, I’ve tried not killing before getting there (which is really difficult in some places) I’ve tried it with and without mf boosts of all kinds, I’ve tried to do all gathering only killing when i had to to get around a mob.

There comes a point where it becomes too much, I shouldn’t be working this hard to make enough gold to get by with teleport costs, having to constantly change my build because of broken traits/aspects of the engineer class, or due to trying to gear an alt. It’s so frustrating and yes this is the only game out of the five that I bounce around between that does this. (three of which I’m waiting on certain changes to be uploaded they’re in the testing phase right now). I didn’t even have this problem in WoW. Those rogue lockboxes? I’d farm those all the time and get them the really rare items in these boxes pretty regularly from pick pocketing.

This has been the only game that’s ever done this which makes me wonder if there’s seriously something wrong, and let me just be clear, RNG is when something other then the same thing happens all the time.

I hope they answer you OP we need answers for sure.
