Is this a casual game?
It’s too casual even for the casuals. And the part that tried different was done wrong.
So it’s either too casual, or riddled with burdensome grind. There is no middle ground no matter what you go after in GW2.
This game is as casual or as hardcore as you want it to be.
no. it’s no longer casual friendly. 90 hours per piece of gear to be competitive isn’t casual friendly.

thats exactly my point.
no. it’s no longer casual friendly. 90 hours per piece of gear to be competitive isn’t casual friendly.
If you want to be competitive then you are no longer a casual player and I’m not talking about gear.
It’s casual if you want sub par gear. If you want top of the line stuff be prepared to spend countless hours grinding for relics to trade for that gear.

I don’t play games to be cannon fodder either. that’s not my idea of fun.

Irrelevant, but I am a long distance runner. I don’t consider this a sport. I consider this a game.

Oh it is relevant, would you say you would be able to be a competitve long distance runner just because you got amazing running shoes?
Casual, as in you spent a limited amount of time playing video games each day – that type of a ‘casual player’?
If so… then yah, this is a casual game that you’ll like
WARNING: Do not play it too fast, or else it will make you become anti-MMO like it made most of my buds who’s now quit the game. The less quickly you find out what the game’s endgame is like, the better^~
Irrelevant. Try again. This isn’t a sport. It’s a game. It’s a game that boasted that people who grinded longer wouldn’t be more powerful than those who have jobs.
perfectly casual. As long as you ignore the forums (in general, get info off of Wiki). If you want to be “semi-hardcore” then turn on general chat in LA.
Chat in LA is better though. No one asks why you can’t duel, or writes a big “I’m leaving letter”!
Both have their share of players prancing about like they are the top breed of MOA bird, but whatever……..
It was casual, but not anymore.
It’s now grind to win.

touche, my friend.
Casual game?
Lion’s Arch now seems like Dalaran of Wrath of the Lich King (LFM Fractals only diff. x+) and in the future you we’ll see also the ascendant prerequisite.
No, this is not a casual game. If you can grind and you like Super mario bros dungeon is ok, otherwise Anet thinks you don’t deserve any respect.

I suck at sports more complex than bowling, but I do love watching England win a rugby match (Swing low sweet chariot…). It would be a hollow victory if they fielded 16 players to the other team’s 14. Not a real victory, rather a pre-determined advantage. Welcome to vertical stats…
Irrelevant. Try again. This isn’t a sport. It’s a game. It’s a game that boasted that people who grinded longer wouldn’t be more powerful than those who have jobs.
Sports are a type of a game too, and like any game in order to be competitive you actually have to play the game. So if you expect to be competitive at anything by putting minimal time into it then you have no idea what you are doing at all.

So in summary:
If you want to know about the sad truth of the game – come chat with the players on the forum.
If you just want to play the game without feeling sad as kitten – then just chat with other players in-game who also enjoys playing the game…. (cuz they’re also playing it!)

I have but the performance increase, if any, reaches a plateau very quick. Not so in this game. Your performance continues to increase with the stats on the gear.
In real life there is a limit, whereas in this game there is none. In the game, as long as your gear increases, so does your performance.
There’s no limit assuming the gear trend continues. You know what they say about people who assume?

What do you think the difference between $20 shoes and $200 shoes is?
There’s no limit assuming the gear trend continues. You know what they say about people who assume?
That goes both ways.
Did you read the blog post? The whole “this is only the beginning” part? Well, this is only the beginning. There will be more gear added in future patches as per the blog post.
Consider the fact that currently the infusions are only blue quality and that they will be upgraded as times goes by also. Knowing that infusions add stats, it’s a pretty safe bet that performance will continue to grow with better gear.

so where are my rocket boots for putting time into it, lol?
I put time into wvwvw to learn my class, not so that I am given better gear. I think my analogy fits sports far better than does your.

Dude, you’re applying real life example to a video game. In real life if you fall 20 meters, you’ll seriously hurt yourself, in the game, you slow down for a second and your health regens to full.
This is a video game, real world examples do not apply.

You’re missing the point, which is that you cannot use real life examples in relation to a video game.
In real life, I can buy a $100 boxing gloves or $20 boxing gloves but neither of those gloves will make my punches stronger.
In GW2, ascended gear will make me punch stronger, regardless of my ability as a player. See the difference?

Video games are part of real life, as you say, so same concepts apply. And unlike you I’m not making things up to make a point.
You made up the running analogy, lol. Shoes can’t make you run faster irl. Ascended gear can make you hit harder. End of story.

Dude, what are you talking about? This is a fictional universe with a very liberal approach to the laws of physics, amongst other things. Which is understandable because it’s a video game, a work of fiction set in a fantastical universe.
There are no concepts in GW2 that you can apply to the real world. There are some similarities, sure, but you cannot use a video game as a reference to real life. It just doesn’t work.

I hate to spell it out for you but the concept that applies to both GW2 and real world is becoming better at something. You say you want to be a NFL player, well then you better put time and effort in order to get there. You say you want to be competitve in GW2, well you better put time and effort in order to do so.
