Keep an eye on the change list post at the top of this thread. Still making adjustments here and there and things pop-up.

Well that’s good. I’m really concerned as a Condition necromancer. Considering that’s where my heart lies.

Will Radiant Retaliation be fixed in this patch? It has been completely non-functional since October. Would be nice to get a patch note since it is a GM trait.

Hello Josh,

Just chimming in to thank you for this lengthy preview. Now waiting to experiment these changes on live on my many characters before I provide feedback.

But I can say right now that, as a PvE ranger main, I am pretty excited by the idea that at last I won’t have to take the nature magic spec just to provide spirit buffs. Having the freedom to choose my third spec is great and will open the door to some interesting variations.

Looks like there may be quite some fun to be had with the new “Remorseless” trait and I am really eager to see how far we will push it in 1 and 5 man environments (expecially if a “Persisting Flames” ele happens to come by).

Thanks to everybody in this thread for sharing feedback/comments/questions. Too bad the “overpriced HoT” ruckus casts such a large shadow over specialization changes.

Warrior skill “Frenzy” got its downside removed (confusingly called frenzy as well), will this also go for engineers Elixir U? It currently gives either haste or frenzy. I think that will be more in line with what happens to the warrior skill, and remove randomness from the engineer profession.

Obviously, keep in mind the toolbelt, which is also strong.

Thanks, will do. Is all the baseline stuff mentioned for Engineer in the first livestream (Rifled Barrels, Forceful Explosives, pistol 1/rifle 5 classified as explosions) still going through?

I’m pretty irritated by teh speedy kits change but otherise intrigued for engi changes, fairly indifferent to ranger because they’ve still done nothing particularly useful to address the main source of major woes, the pet, but the necro changes to Plague and Consume conditions, are just bizarre. Two skills drastically nerfed because of the outside possibilty that people might use a corruption trait, which lowers cooldowns while adding second self-condition? I have absolutely no plans in using Master of Corruption so as a result, my two favorite skills in their slots, will now have longer cooldowns and kill me?……

I really liked the Necro changes… at least the ones that pertain to me.

  • Siphon traits work in Death-shroud
  • Bloodthirst made baseline
  • Unholy Martyr life-force doubled from 5% to 10% and had a bug fixed.
  • Marks got several buffs
  • Plague Signet now recharges in half the time.
  • Shrouded Removal now removes conditions while you remain in shroud.
  • Blood Magic minor prevents allies from bleeding out in combat.
  • Only takes 1 dagger to get 25% movement speed and you also get faster dagger recharge.
  • Banshee’s wail is now in a much more accessible place for me, but it does compete with giving Siphoning to allies.
  • Unyielding Blast increased from 4 to 5 targets.
  • Vital Persistence merged with faster shroud skill recharges

I’ve been constantly changing around between 0/0/6/6/2, 0/0/4/6/4, 0/0/6/4/4, 0/0/2/6/6. With all these changes I can be nice and happy and content with Death Magic, Blood Magic, and Soul Reaping.

As a mesmer I’m happy overall about the changes, except this:

“Phantasmal Mage: Instead of inflicting confusion on foes an granting retaliation on allies, this phantasm now inflicts 1 stack of burning for 6 seconds on foes an grants 3 seconds of fury to allies. Removed undocumented condition removal from this phantasm.”

That now I’ll be eaten up by conditions in pvp.

The necro community tho.. the only community that never fails to make me laugh xD

Why did you remove this trait?https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Fire's_Embrace
Was the only way for me to play signet!!!Before they put together signet and conjure weapon in the number II of fire! Now in this last update they remove the signet and there is only conjure!!!
Why this? The signet actually don’t have any trait (just in earth “write in stone”).
With new sistem trait the fire’S embrace Could give to elementalist a possibility to use a build with signet. Now the signet are more invaluable then before.

One major question I have is will all damage amps be getting the Vulnerability treatment with their interaction with conditions?

Things like while foe has X condition they take X% more damage or
While you have X boon deal X percent more damage or
Deal X% more damage to foes under the health threshhold

There are many traits and runes like this currently that all do not work with conditions. Will this be changing? I would really like for the two “deal 7% increased damage to burning foes” to actually increase the damage of my burning.

Concerning damage modifiers.

Been looking through all the changes to trait lines and it got me wondering about the inconsistency of dmg mods. So would love some info as to how this was done and “balanced”, is it based on sustained dps for pve, based on pvp/www burst or what?

Some classes have pretty much kept there dmg mods, other’s have even gotten more and some have lost upwards of 20-30%. In my eyes it just seems very unbalanced for certain classes.
I play all classes except warrior, and looking through these changes im kinda worried, not just based on dmg mods ofc but of the general risk/reward balance after the patch.

Not gonna start listing classes/traits etc, gonna hold out for the patch and test it first
But some clarification on dmg mods would be nice.

Guardian’s got buffed?

Sort of.

While a lot of the core changes are around adding more group Support (like increased outgoing heal), those of us who already like to run in Support configs (like x/x/x/6/6) got buffed just for having access to a ‘third 6’ (probably Zeal in my case – depends on what Dragonhunter’s line will do).

On the other hand, all or most of our passive effects (Virtues, SiN, etc) had their range halved to 600. I’m still curious for the reasoning here; thinking about it more made me believe that was a balance pass against world bosses and WvW. I suppose one can hope…

All ACTIVE effects had their range reduce by half (1200 -> 600). Also the increased outgoing heal doesn’t mean much, because its competing with Pure of Voice and Writ of Persistence.

A lot of useless traits are still in or got masked by pitiful buffs:

  • Symbolic Exposure: This trait does nothing, you get up to 3 stacks of vulnerability, up to 3 stacks of perma vulnerability if you are using a hammer (this in PvE, for PvP and WvW is even more weak);
  • Wrathful Spirit: Retaliation is the weakest boon in the game and it only applies 3 seconds when Aegis is lost (75 seconds of CD on VoC or 40 sec CD of Retreat);
  • Binding Jeopardy: comparing with the current Binding Jeopardy (5 stacks of 8 seconds) or Blind Exposure (3 stacks of 10 seconds), this only applies 3 seconds, unless it apllies a high stack (15+) will be meaningless.
  • Symbolic Avenger: They said that will be only +10%, so this trait will literally be PvE only.
  • Right-hand strength: the Sword lost +10% dmg and the +10% dmg with conditions from radiance line. 20% CD reduction doesn’t mean much. Also the Sword #3 still roots. (at least is the +10% from Retribution to compensate)
  • Healer’s Retribution: This is the new dumbiest trait in the game. 5 seconds of real every 30 seconds. Is a dead slot among all falling traits.
  • Amplified Wrath: nerfed more than half. I won’t say much becouse I not tested how burning will be. Also they nerfed every on block trait with an 1 sec ICD.
  • Radiant Retaliation: This junk is still here. There is no reason to keep this trait in the game. Even with the nerfed Amplified Wrath, it will always be better in condition builds (if they really become viable). And they said that won’t be any change for this trait (like increasing its damage or something else).
  • Stalwart Defender: this trait is the weakest trait from shield traits. Also this is the weakest shield weapon. (it will still be with the lower CDs).
  • Writ of Persistence VS Pure of Voice: Who played as support Guardian knows how it makes weaker. Now if you want to be support you must choose between shouts and something else or symbols and consecrations. Shouts + symbols? You can’t.
  • Retaliatory Subconscious: This once was the weakest trait in the game, now is competing with Healer’s Retribution. So if you goes into virtues line, you’ll take this trait if you don’t use Consecrations because Unscathed Contender is unreliable outside PvE (might be better with Long Bow). Block a single hit after stunned won’t help much, mainly considering it is on every 30 seconds. Also, the 3 seconds of retal is meaningless.
  • Battle Presence: it already was weak, now is even more weaker becouse it doesn’t work if VoR is on CD. And don’t say that have synergy with Purity of Body (+15% endurance regen) because that is too low. It needs a secondary effect, even more considering its “nerf”, maybe on activation of VoR.

These are my main issues with the changes. All classes have significant changes, but not Guardian. That is what frusted me. Sorry if I sounded stupid, but I’m really frustrated with the changes on the class.

Sorry for my english.

Yes, this is correct. In the new trait system, provided you want to use all your traits at 80, you will have to pick 3 trait lines, and you will not be able to use the other 2 trait lines at all at the same time. All 3 of those trait lines will be maxed out, giving you a total of 18 trait points as opposed to the 14 trait points you currently have. Also, the stats in each trait line are getting removed and put elsewhere (higher stats on gear and higher base stats IIRC).

And not only that, but they don’t even tried to change usless utility skills like:

  • Hallowed Ground: This skill is 99.99% of the time useless. Stand your Ground will always be best than this one – you don’t need to keep in place to fully recieve it’s effects, you get retal, it is instant and its a stun breaker – The only upside is that is a fire field. This skill should have its CD reduced or be a stun breaker to be viable as SyG.
  • Sanctuary: The CD is too long to be viable to use.
  • Merciful Intervention: One of the worst skills in the game. It is basically a 50 sec 2k heal, with 4k for yourself if traited. The teleport is worthless.
  • Signet of Mercy: Like all revive skills, should have its cast time reduce to 2 seconds, not only that, this is the revival with the weakest effecs, but the longest cast time.
Sorry for my english.

Hallowed Ground and all kind of retaliation works perfectly on WvW. Retaliation – is bane of flamethrower engineers and dagger thiefs, moreover. People get burned in sec-s by AOE on support squads with retaliation.

It seems many people judge the changes considering only one of game aspect they prefer more.

Sounds like anet “balance” to me

Guardian’s got buffed?

Sort of.

A lot of useless traits are still in or got masked by pitiful buffs:

Guardians lost a baseline of 20% Dmg Modifier in the Radiance Tree.

Guardians DMG Modifiers are now in Zeal but ONLY attached to Symbols…. really… symbols….

Who the f stands in symbols?

No one will stand in Hallowed Ground during a group / zerg fight. The only good of retaliation is to counter AoE if all your allies have retal as well, but most of the traits related only give retal to Guardian. So for that, SyG do that work 100 times better. That is why Hallowed Ground is so weak. Also I forgot to add that SyG can also remove conditions, which Hallowed Ground cannot. There is literally no reason to use Hallowed Ground now.

They must change retaliation to damage a % back, scaling the % with power, so it will become more relevant and wont heavily punish multi hit attacks. But will still be strong aganist AoE, unless there are some type of ICD aganist several targets or some type of dmg reduction.

@edit
The main problem of Hallowed Ground skill is not its effects, but mainly the insane cooldown. 80 seconds for its effects is too much.

Sorry for my english.

Would still love to hear something about the thief pistol nerf. I’ve been hoping this was just missed in the notes, but by now I’m guessing they just don’t care.

Thief pistol has lost it damage trait (Pistol Mastery) and Ricochet which gave it added range and bounce (for additional targets). Of the 3 traits that effected this weapon, thieves only kept one of them (Ankle Shots). It is almost as if they don’t even want us to use the weapon any longer.

Were there any other weapons that actually lost range in this update?

I thought they said Thief pistol range was extended. That might have been for Mesmer, though, as that’s the only part of the post-Twitch-shutdown video I’ve had time to watch.

Yeah, the treatment of P/P thieves is completely absurd. They were far from being OP in any way, yet without Pistol Mastery and Ricochet, they are next to useless.

P/P thieves have needed more love for a long time, but this is totally the opposite! What is going on, Anet? Please tell us either they’re baseline now or you have a gunslinger elite spec for us where all our firearms-related traits and buffs are hiding…

It is only listed for Mesmer.

Any word on ricochet for thieves? No one was complaining that P/P thieves were OP, please don’t nerf them.

Am I interpreting the following wording correctly?

  • Confounding Suggestions: Increases daze and stun duration on foes by 25%. When you would daze a foe, you stun them instead (5s ICD).

So, if my dazes become stuns once every 5s, do I receive the benefit of Dazzling only when I daze during the CS ICD?

How are multi-target dazes (Power Lock, MoF Diversion) affected by CS?
Is one target randomly stunned, while the rest are dazed, or does CS convert all dazes from a single source?

Every class got buffs. But considering some class strength in the current meta some classes were over buffed.

A lot of these trait changes were long overdue. And A lot of them were totally unnecessary.

well the hammer looks to be chaining up to 65%+ bonus damage gonna be real nasty in pvp if they land an aoe stun on you. you will die in the knock down.
