'Kitten' is getting old...
I prefer bookah
I prefer Hodor.
Hodor Hodoor HODOR!!
I prefer Hodor.
Hodor Hodoor HODOR!!
Honest question: Is that a Game of Thrones reference?
I’ll be honest I never watched it

Yeah. /sigh
Could have been worse they could have used “Prancing Kittens”.
I never watched it, but I read it and know of Hodor. Anyways, if you’re tired of kitten, stop kitten ing swearing.
While on the subject, has anyone else seen that new forum bug where a user’s name in a quote gets replaced with “kittkittkittkittkittkittkittkittkittkittkittkittkittkittkittkitt” ad nauseum? THAT’S annoying.

Just happened to me today. I don’t know if some people’s names interfere with the “=quote” part or what.

I’m a strong advocate of the Internet and I heartily support our feline cousins’ continued prominence in the aforementioned medium. However, ‘kitten’ is getting old.
I would like to see the forum censor replace ‘kitten’ with a term more becoming of the Guild Wars universe.
How about ‘skrittin’ ?
I approve this skrittin post. Skrit the skrittin skrit.
Mud Bone – Sylvari Ranger
I find “skrittin” offensive…
Sort of like Battlestar Galactica’s frack, Anet could’ve made their own rather than turn everything to the generic kitten. I quite like the first suggestion in this thread bookah but that would be a tip of the hat towards the Asura who I don’t give a kitten about (ask yourself, did I now type kitten or the other word…)
The Skritt already go ‘skritt, I’m hit’ which really sounds like they go censored already from what they’d ultimately want to say. So maybe we could adopt ‘skritt’ as expletive instead of ‘kitten’?

I like GOBSTOPPERS. As in, “Those GOBSTOPPERS people keep getting in my GOBSTOPPERS way.”
I prefer the uncensored word, I am not a fan of censoring. And no there is noway that there are still people who go crazy when they see or hear swearing.
You know I was thinking about this the night previous. the censor word on the forums, there should be options for other words in substitute XD
Like kitties. Or cats. Or chocolate. Or woo woo!
Or something silly XD ‘Kitten’ gets a bit dry after a while but still funny
Or other words relating to GW2. A list of words that people can choose to replace their censor word and if they don’t choose one, it defaults. Or one where it rotates through all of the words.
“I got hit by an omnomberry when I was trying to dredge this kitten piece of dawn.”
I say kitten irl now- it confuses the heck out of people

I could be wrong but I think Anet chose kitten specifically because it would be completely out of place in most sentences where the censor kicks in, so it’s obvious the user has been censored and you can usually work out what they meant to say (maybe not the exact word, but enough to still understand the post) and also because it greatly reduces the impact.
It’s much less likely that you’re going to react the same way to someone saying “Well kitten you you kitten kitten. You’re obviously a kitten noob who kitten no kitten about any kitten kitten” than if they were actually swearing at you, even using “fictional” swear words like bookah or smeg. You might still know what that they intended to insult you (pretty harshly in that case) but the end result is just silly and it takes the force out of it so it’s easier to shrug it off and ignore them or reply relatively calmly. You might not be aware of it, but it works.
Of course that’s not to say kitten is the only word that has that effect. Any amusing, cute or funny word would probably work the same way. But if they changed it we’d be back to the early days of the forum when this section, players helping players and various topics were full of “What the kitten does kitten mean?” “Why did my post change to kitten?” and “Why is everyone saying kitten?”.

The problem with this is it would make it much harder to tell when someone is being censored, when they actually meant the word they used and when they’re talking nonsense.
If someone says “How do you use this omnomberry? I spent all my kitten karma on this skritt and I can’t use it!” You have no way of knowing whether they are actually having a problem with omnomberrys or if it’s something else and they’ve been censored.
It might seem like it’d be obvious from the context or other info in the post, but that’s assuming the poster, who will quite likely be angry when writing this, has fully explained the situation and used proper grammar and punctuation.

It’s only fair to switch from “kitten” to “puppy”.
+1 for skritten
However, the filter needs an upgrade. It’s annoying when “kitten” gets stuck in the middle of words, and how you can’t type “that-it’s” without the filter thinking we’re talking about breasts.

But “at it’s” is ok. (If improper…)
“Noy Jitat” or “Chongo-longo”
I don’t mind “kitten”, although “hodor” would indeed be hilarious.
What rubs me the wrong way, is how often words get censored that are not swear words.
Like when we say that: “Dragonbakittenems are available for a limited time only.”
I hate having to rephrase stuff like that to: “Dragonbash objects are available for a limited time only.”

Has anyone tried writing, ‘that Q its’, without the capital Q?
It inserts the kitten.
Its really, really annoying…
Its because without the Q, its, t Q its.
I like skritten, but I don’t mind the current kitten.
I’ve taken to just type it in if I’m gonna type a word that’ll be kittening censored.
Please give us a keyring…
Hodor!

That happens to me all the time. It’s a pretty common combination of words in the English language. The fact that the censorship system automatically assumes that these two separate words are actually describing the female bosom, says more about the censors than about us.

They could at least fix the censor system so that it isn’t blocking out half of the otherwise completely acceptable words along with the ones they don’t like. I can’t even post URLs and quotes without it causing a problem. >_>

Skritt is good, since the Skritt themselves seem to use it as a curse. IE; “Skritt, I’m hit!”

How about a random censor word? I believe that would ‘fit’ the GW2 universe perfectly.

Hey all. Your enthusiasm regarding our swear filtering is admirable, but we don’t have any plans to change the filter word at this time. Sorry.
