This has actually been a concern of mine too. Alot of the legendary weapons, including some of the ones I desire, don’t have the stats I’d like for that weapon. Which means upon acquiring them I’d have to transmute them…the concern here being of course, then when Ascended Weapons are introduced, that only default legendaries will be upgrading from exotic to ascended status, and people who possess transmuted legendaries would then have to go to all the trouble to get an ascended weapon to transmute again. Wonder if Anet could give us any reassurance or clarification here?

Of course, ideally, ascended weapons would never be introduced anyway, but we all know it’s going to happen to keep those playes who don’t belong in this game and should have stayed where they were happy…for a short period of time.

Yeah, this question has been raised often but there never was an official reply. Don’t know what’s so hard about answering this.

I’m prety sure they will be upgraded, the transmuted legendaries now link in chat properly (purple) retain a purple display name, etc… The only difference is it says “Transmuted” rather than “Legendary” or “Exotic”. Literally everything else still appears to be legendary… Heres some extra info…

I really hope that if ascended weapons did come out, that my 2 transmuted legendaries would be auto-upgraded :P Otherwise I’ll quit this game.

Ascended stats for the legendary weapons are already in the game. It is however disabled awaiting decision to release ascended weapons.

If you would recall, they increased the stats on all legendary weapons back in December. After maybe 1 or 2 days, they disabled it.

Hmm I don’t actually recall this happening. I remember them working on fixing the rarity of the item, I don’t ever recall them having higher stats.

They remain there color on name therefore its still legendary, before the fix they had exotic color names and some of them lost their footprints, my friend has two legendaries and he moves them around characters often, they keep being legendaries though

It’s a win/win if they do scale transmuted legendaries because you get to use the stats that fit you now as well as when ascended weapons come out. If not, you get the stats now and not later. If they don’t scale transmuted legendaries and you’re not one of the 5 people who use PTV gear and you didn’t transmute it, you’ll have a legendary that you can’t use. Congrats. I transmuted my Kudzu months ago.

Yeah, this question has been raised often but there never was an official reply. Don’t know what’s so hard about answering this.

I suspect it has something to do with the fact that they haven’t started working on Ascended weapons yet and therefore haven’t started working on the system to upgrade legendaries either and they can’t say how it will work until they do.

I suspect that if they can upgrade transmuted legendaries then they will, if only because so many people would complain about it endlessly if they didn’t. But we don’t know for sure that they can. I don’t think anyone outside of Anet really knows how the item data works, it might turn out to be impossible for some reason.

So it’s a risk. You might transmute it and find that it doesn’t get upgraded. Or it might have an upgraded version of the original stats instead of the ones you transmuted the skin onto.

But the worst case scenario is probably that you’ll have to acquire an ascended weapon to transmute the skin onto, as a kind of DIY upgrade. (And no, we don’t know how/where ascended weapons will come from and won’t until they’re added to the game.)

If people with transmuted legendaries get shafted, these forums would go nuclear. Especially since it would be in addition to the inevitable re-igniting of the ascended gear debate that would come with the introduction of the weapons.

I can confirm that Legendaries transmute just fine.

I got the Juggernaut a couple months ago and transmuted it onto a Exotic Berserker’s Hammer and have applied a Sigil of Superior Force to it. It’s still purple and when pinged in chat it says “The Juggernaut”. Just MAKE SURE when transmuting you click on the Legendary’s skin

Well I’ll share what facts I have learned about transmuting:

So the basics first. When transmuting, there are three sections: The Skin, The Stats, and The Sigil/Rune slot.

Read on to learn more why transmuted legendary weapons are NOT legendary despite how they appear in chat links.

The skin section maintains the visual and name rarity only. Certain weapons like legendary weapons or high-end exotics retain their name without adopting the equipped sigil suffix. In chat links and player, inventory the equipment rarity appears as the original skin’s rarity. The skin section is nothing but visual flavor.

The actual equipment data is recorded in the stat section. The transmuted stats are always linked to the original equipment piece they came from. This can be revealed by viewing the transmuted weapon by NPC vendor which will display the original stat’s weapon skin and rarity which overrides the transmuted skin’s rarity. The icon in vendors also reflects the stat section over the skin section.

So in regard to legendary weapons being transmuted onto exotic stats at this time:

The real rarity is based on the stat section that is kept in the transmutation. The skin section does not present the true rarity or weapon data. Legendary weapons become that of the stat weapon used in terms of real rarity.

This is why Sunrise or Twilight transmuted cannot be used to make Eternity anymore. A Sunrise with a Berserker’s Pearl Broadsword stats is a Berserker’s Pearl Broadsword to the game.

UNTESTED Theory: An Iron Greatsword skin with the stats of Twilight, is still seen as Twilight to the game, therefore this “legendary iron greatsword” would be able to make Eternity. This won’t really ever happen because people desire the skin, not the stats.

Real legendary weapons require name input upon being destroyed or salvaged, in addition are not able to be used in Mystic Forge or sold to vendor. This is determined by the stat quality, not the skin appearance. A crafted exotic stats transmuted onto a legendary skin is treated just the same as that crafted exotic.

If you care about the additional benefits of a legendary, do not transmute it. If you have transmuted your legendary weapon and want to revert it, all is not lost. Contact support and be clear and constructive about your desire, for you can get the weapon back non-soulbound should you want to change it to a different character even. Just choose wisely and wait for future improvements to the legendary weapons.

While you are correct about how things are now, that doesn’t indicate how they will be handled once ascended weapons really come out. Even if the text color is only fluff right now, it means that the weapon’s origin is still kept in the database.

It should be relatively easy to update existing transmuted weapons once asceded are rolled out, and if the dev in question is not a ridiculously detached amateur, this is what they’ll do in one form or another.
