Is LS a filler or is it tied to the main story line?

If not, what happened to the whole epic “Dragons are attacking the world” thing?

Why are we having these cheerful festivals if the world around us is being destroyed and people are dying around us, that doesn’t make any sense to me.

Wasn’t the story supposed to be based around the war against the dragons and their minions, what we have now is just goofy/corny fillers, or am I missing something?

Last I heard, even during WWII people still celebrated Christmas. In fact, in times of stress, people need these types of celebrations MORE.

Zhaitan was defeated, Tyria is celebrating. I’m not sure why that’s hard to understand.

I’m sure there are people researching, trying to track the other dragons, but Zhaitan was the biggest immediate problem.

During WW1 Christmas Eve, while Germans were celebrating, Russians attacked and successfully won a battle, look it up, I forgot the name of that event.

I’m not heavily Invested into GW2’s story line, that’s why I’m asking.

Celebrations is what the festivals are about.

The story inbetween the festivals is disattached from the main narrative, and offers little to the main story outside of one or two glimpses of character development and a rather bland “omg, here’s new bad guys. You have two weeks to kill them before other bad guys appear!” plot arcs.

EDIT: This is possibly an experimental period for anet, and future stories might turn out to be better. Hopefully. I think we all want an epic narrative that can both excite us and feel us extremely involved in its events, but for that to happen, it requires something more ambitious, with stronger narrative/ character build up, an intense climax and a satisfying closure. Maybe with some epic plot twists in between. It’s what the main story with Zhaithan tried to do, although unsuccessfully due to the many issues already discussed by the community.

We probably won’t see again an attempt to do something like this until we get an expansion-like update, though.

At this moment, the storyline is addressing other stuff, because even during wars, other stuff happens. That’s what I’m saying.

It is entirely possible that dragons and dragon related things will come into this when they’re ready to roll out…which is not now.

But right now, we’re dealing with getting back to normalcy after the defeat of Zhaitan. Remember, in Kryta the other dragons are really far off. No one even knows where Primordus is. Jormag is in the far north…he’s no longer directly affecting anyone we know. Kralkatorrik is in the crystal desert somewhere, but his influence is much past. I mean the dragon brand is there, but the dragon himself isn’t that close to worry about. And some of the other dragons we haven’t seen/don’t know about yet.

Zhaitan was the immediate threat and he’s been dealt with. I’m sure we’ll get getting another dragon when we find out where the hell they are.

From what I understood, the story is the Elder Dragons have risen, but haven’t necessarily done anything yet. They’re not blasting the countryside and waging war or anything. They’re just…out there…

Thousands of people are dying from hunger today and hundreds more are dying in the streets across the world in less fortunate places. But instead of mourning their loss and committing to action that would help them, you’re sitting here playing games and having fun.

See what I did there?

So what if there is constant danger with Bubbles or Jormag mulling about. Are you going to be depressed and worried the whole time? Maybe if the danger is immediate, sure that makes sense. But the citizens of Tyria need to get away from all that and have fun

Agree, but at this point we’re just having way too much festivals, in my opinion.

We had a festival last month. This month isn’t so much a festival as a trading opportunity. It’s more about commerce than a festival.

If you watched the scene, you’d know that Kryta has been trying to get the Zypherites into a trade agreement for a long time and they’re trying to do that just now. So it’s not really a festival in the sense of a holiday.

There’s an underlying story here that’s more than just having a good time.

The dragons threaten Tyria, but the normal life of the people doesn’t simply stop. All kinds of things are going on at the same time, everywhere, ever.

I for one am glad to be able to experience a bunch of different stories; some heavily have to do with dragons (personal story, daily boss fights., and if rumours are to be believed, expansions.) and some don’t (living story).

9 months after launch, this game introduced a grand total of 3 festivals : Halloween, Wintersday and Dragon Bash. We’ll probably see another for GW2’s first anniversary. 4 festivals a year don’t seem too much to me.

“We have no first-person view because stupid people would lock into it”
“You can’t have more than 10 HS decks because that would confuse people”
“30 fps is more cinematic”

Just guessing, but…

If we saw, say, five different dragon attacks, some people would probably complain that killing dragons is all we ever do. That they appear too often, and it’s boring.

Oh…and, of course, that they weren’t rewarding enough. =P
