Maybe it’s just a couple of days because it’s new, wait a couple of days and try again.

While this sounds reasonable, I don’t want to wait to play. I don’t have the leisure of waiting either; I want to play when I can, not at some time that’s dictated by the mechanics of some part of the game.

So the game should be designed specifically for you?

I loved this jumping puzzle. I didn’t find other players being there problematic.

I like difficult and complex puzzles, the one at Pearl didn’t even feel like a puzzle. It was just me jumping toward a chest. There was no skill involved.

I can understand the complaints for tower (even though I thought it was more than fair) since it was a one time puzzle for a limited time only. With the stepping stones puzzle it’s here to stay, you can go back whenever you want when there are less people and have a blast.

I don’t want to be stuck with jumping puzzles I can do one handed because others can’t be bothered to wait for the crowd to die down. I’m all for them adding a mix of easy medium and clock tower-like difficulty puzzles so everyone can get something out of them.

I think if you took away the other players in your space, the challenge would still be there and you wouldn’t be doing the puzzle “one-handed” it would just take away that extra element of frustration. For people like me, who are neither the best nor the worst at jumping puzzles, I already get frustrated with some puzzles, and still feel challenged, when no one is around. When there are five largest possible Norn in your view and you keep messing up and you feel it’s because they are throwing you off, you aren’t just frustrated, you get pissed, livid, fuming, etc. and that is not what playing games is about, man. The OP is not saying “Make a game for ME” and they are not asking to nerf or alter the puzzle itself, just the fact that

IF

you WANT to do the puzzle, you are forced to do it with other people around. And although they could be patient and wait for the excitement (wait. what excitement? this event is kittening boring!) to die down, why should they have to wait their turn like a secondary citizen? That would make it more them playing your game, which isn’t okay either.

What I mean is the Pearl jumping puzzle is so easy I can do it with one hand. There’s no skills involved it’s just jumping over a gap.

Yes removing other players from the picture would make the puzzle easier which is why a lot of us are telling people to just wait a few days until the “new” factor wears off. Go to any of the old jumping puzzles in the game and it will almost always be empty.

There were probably 20-30 people at the puzzle when I first got there. I saw it was too many to work around so I left and went back a few hours later and there were only 10-15. With the clock tower when I was running into trouble with it and getting frustrated I left and did something else.

The issue is everyone feels like THEY need to be able to do everything and they need to be able to do it NOW. And if they can’t, the game needs to change to fit them. There’s nothing forcing you to do the puzzle and there’s nothing stopping you from taking a break if it gets frustrating. OP might not be saying to nerf the puzzle but others are.

The thing is they don’t HAVE to wait like a secondary citizen. They are more than welcome to do the puzzle right now with everyone else, it’s just that they, themselves, are not capable of doing it with others around. Plenty of other people are able to do with puzzle with a crowd of people.

As an example I couldn’t do the Asura story quest where you basically have to do a “simon says” of hitting buttons in a certain order challenging your memory. I just can’t play those times of games. I didn’t come running to the forums to say things like that should be nerfed.

Let me start by saying that this patch has a lot of things I love. First, I LOVE Fractals as a dungeon concept. It’s fun, it’s challenging, it’s rewarding. I like the new map of Southsun Cove, it’s fun and the karka are a unique and interesting monster class that makes killing them a lot of fun.

But every time I settle into things I like about the new patch, I’m constantly reminded of things I hate about this patch. I hate that the devs keep adding tons of new crafting materials but refuse to expand the crafting storage, obligating me to either sell off all the mats I’ve collected and not bother trying to craft anything with them, or else buy bank/inventory slots to store them all. I hate that some of the mobs are questionably balanced at best, leading to a lot of surprise deaths from even skilled players that really shouldn’t happen. And I especially hate the new Ascended tier.

Oh yes, I’m going there.

See, I was like many people. I worried that this might prove to be a gear treadmill but I adopted a wait-and-see attitude. Now I’ve waited and I’ve seen and I hate what I see.

I want every single person who has defended Ascended gear as “necessary” to look at the requirements for just ONE Ascended tier item and try to tell me that they’re not forcing you to grind for gear: 1 Vial of Condensed Mists Essence, 240 Philosopher’s Stone, 50 Globs of Ectoplasm, 250 of a T6 material

And then to infuse it (just to give it a bonus +5 Agony Resistance), you need the following:

  • Gift of Ascension (500 Fractal tokens from the new dungeon)
  • 250 Globs of Ectoplasm
  • Glob of Coagulated Mists Essence (forged by combining 5 Vial of Condensed Mists Essence, 1 Mystic Coin, 1 Glob of Ectoplasm, and 1 Fractal Relic)

Yeah. Let’s stop pretending that we’re not being forced to grind for this gear, because we are.

Look, I get it. I do. I understand that you’re trying to make special shiny stuff for your hardcore crowd to grind for, to keep them busy. But as you may have noticed, many of these hardcore people obtained these items within 24 hours of the patch. And the rest of us will be grinding for them from now until the end of eternity because we don’t WANT to grind for the best gear. You will not sate the appetites of the hardcore crowd unless you roll out new tiers of gear with every patch, and that would be LYING to your players (the ones who made this game what it is).

I want an honest answer from an ANet dev about why these things couldn’t be added as special skins. GW1 thrived for 7 years on a policy of “no power creep, only new skins” and by making great content patches to hold us over. Why can’t GW2 survive with just that?

In summation: I love the new dungeon and I love the new map. That much you guys did an amazing job on. But I absolutely HATE the precedent you’re setting with this patch. You’re pushing for more emphasis on crafting, but not giving us the storage for it. You’re pushing for more gear to grind, but making them inaccessible to casual players. And you’re creating new, beautiful looking items that most players will be forced to grind for, simply because you made the huge mistake of making them a better tier instead of just making better skins.

I love this game, ANet, but to steal (surprisingly) decently written words from a poorly written movie: ANet, you’re breaking my heart. You’re going down a path I can’t follow. Because of what you’ve done, of what you plan to do. Stop! Stop now, come back! I love you. ;_;

(yes, I quoted Ep 3, come at me bro)

Remember when our developers talked about “strengthening the core game”?
How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.

And we love Guild Wars 2.

But these events seem like you plan them on paper and don’t actually think about the consequences of actually executing them.

And when you hype stuff up for weeks and it’s all over the gaming internet and we’re inviting friends to play for the weekend and experience the epicness, and we get met with really obvious FPS issues and lag and culling and broken events and vague event chains…it’s really, really disappointing.

Surely you get that, though.

But hopefully you don’t misunderstand that the rage directed at this ridiculousness is only directed at this ridiculousness and isn’t a sign that you’re doing everything wrong.

Just some things. :P

Hugs!

Until your client can actually support your own events dealing with massive amounts of monsters and players tone down these events please! You are only shooting yourself on the foot.

The client can’t render everything that is happening. You can make the best event in the history of MMO, but it wont matter if people can’t see and react to what is happening around them.

I implore you to rethink these sort of events in upcoming content until your rendering issues are optimized.

Either allow for more options in the graphics options to tweak amount of players I want to see or what to prioritize in rendering.

As things currently are, its not going to work. You activated free trials for this and what are people going to see? A kitteny client that can’t show them what is going on around them.

Please I like this game, fix the rendering issues.

What challenge?

My usual tactic is then when suddenly downed signs appear all over the screen to run back and to hope that any one of my abilities actually activates through the lag. I can’t see the enemy or the red circles until I am standing right in the middle of them. Thats no challenge, thats stupid.

But this event is pure garbage. The scenery is nice, but everything else is a mess. I don’t even see a purpose to this event… at all. There is little communication, everything is bugged, an island with mobs that 1-shot you, and I’m not seeing any cool rewards. This is so stupid. I can’t even bring myself to the login screen because I don’t have any motivation.

I have to agree, but I would take it a step further. I think anything like monthly events harms long-term development. Development resources are limited and they should be spent first addressing core game issues around the basic systems and fixing the classes, then on future content. One-time events on anything near a monthly basis are a positive detriment to overall game quality. Don’t believe me? Play the game.

Being one-shot is not a challenge – this is just poor design. I’m glad you like death zerging – you would of fit right in being an army drone 100’s of years ago being sent to battle to certain death so that the rich people could conqueror new lands to pillage and plunder. I for one am tired of this horrendous game design…

It’s not even the lag that’s the biggest problem, I understand that happen and is hard to plan for. But did anyone bother to actually play through the mission in beta testing at least once before it was released? Anyone? Nobody bothered to notice that they have designed…and I use that word very loosely, an island that makes it more difficult to get to the event than the event itself? Nobody bothered to notice that if you die, and have to respawn at a waypoint…what waypoint? Back up at the North end of the island?

Beta testing, it’s an important concept. Use it. And yes, the first post is correct, we’re telling you these things, ANet, because we have seen what you are capable of creating and we have high expectations based on what you have done in the past. We play this game because you provide highly-polished, well-designed, professional maps and events, and we hope to continue to see that in the future.

It would but it’s not cost effective most likely. They already said that the mad king clock tower was originally going to be in a personal instance, but that tech limits wouldn’t let them create that many personal instances.

Nice money sink the part 3 of the event. First I did think the lag would not be a problem this time. At least players were visible and skills not lagging. But mobs appeared late and a lot of vets with AoE wiped everyone fast. Happened pretty often.

Later at the boss outside where you had to drive him back more deaths and more lag. More people there and laggy like in Lion’s Arch.

And 2 times I had to reconnect. 1 time at loading screen. 2nd time after disconnect while death and clicking waypoint and nothing happening.

Good money sink. Lots of porting and dying.

But now I am wayting. Not doing the same stuff again in this new overflow only to get a few silver.

The scaling of loot/XP and the necessary damage dealt to tag enemies in big events is way off.

I have just spent roughly an hour first setting the explosives in the nest and then trying to lure the ancient karka. I helped kill dozens of karka but didn’t get loot from a single kill (ele with aoe). I have made at least 10 times more XP by reviving other players than from killing enemies!
This is ridiculous! On my overflow we are still trying to kill the “reinforcements” of the ancient karka. Players die left and right. All of them will have monstrous repair bills and most likely got almost no loot.

Of course this makes people angry and frustrated.
