Maybe it’s just a couple of days because it’s new, wait a couple of days and try again.

While this sounds reasonable, I don’t want to wait to play. I don’t have the leisure of waiting either; I want to play when I can, not at some time that’s dictated by the mechanics of some part of the game.

Oh, please. It took me 5 1/2 hours to finish the madking clocktower once, and about 35 minutes to finish this one. Their not even remotely comparable. Just wait a few days when everyone has moved on, and you can do it whenever you please without 20 people in the way.

If you can make the first 6 jumps you’ll likely be alone, and then you can have fun with the second portion by yourself. Don’t worry though, after that you’re only half way!

Yeah everyone that is in map chat complaining that this puzzle is harder than mad king need to quit complaining.

I got this chest on my 5th attempt at this puzzle. I was lol’ing at all the people who were saying people using aoe speed buffs were trolling everyone. That is a kittening priceless thought process there. Took me almost 4 hours to do Mad King puzzle so these 2 are not even on the same playing field.

Not being oneshot by what? The jumping puzzle is literally 10seconds away from the waypoint with zero mobs between said waypoint and the beginning.

So are there invisible enemies that instantly you kill now? In fact, there are not enemies on this island that can 1 shot you to begin with. Logic these days.

The puzzle in itself is super easy. On the second set of geysers, you can abuse stability skills in order to ignore half the hard jumps.

LOL. I knew there would be a thread like this after the event started. To clarify, there is absolutely NO pushing of you to even attempt these jp’s. If you don’t like them, steer clear of it. If it’s too crowded, just give it a few days like any other jp. Unlike the Clocktower, this one’s sticking around so you have plenty of time.

I love teh jumping puzzles and this one looks awesome to me. I’m a small female asura…as small as the character creation would let me make her, so jumping on to a target is pretty easy, but I had the serious visibility issues, so I’ll try it again in a few days…no need to whine over it. It’s not like it’s limited time content like the clock puzzle.

Got put in a random Overflow with three other people trying it during “prime time”, finished in minutes. This one is incredibly easier than than the Clocktower. There are stopping points every few jumps, no death from any of the falls, and (over?) half the “puzzle” requires no jumping over any gaps.

I did this puzzle 4 times today; Firstly for the achievement, then again as someone told me about the champion and second chest. Then once again to show my friends how to do it. And the 4th time was just for fun. All in like 1h~

It’s not hard, clocktower was far more difficult than this.

Every jumping puzzle in the game technically requires people to jump onto small spots like this. The only difference is that every other jumping puzzle isn’t newly added, so there isn’t large groups of people doing it at the same time (typically, anyway).

What you’re asking for is essentially for no more jumping puzzles period, because any decently challenging jumping puzzle they add is going to make people jump onto the same small platforms unless they decide to add a multi-path jumping puzzle (and even then, its not like there’s going to be 50 different paths and every person is going to happen to take a different one).

20 people in one spot and can’t see? Then I guess you need to jump to that spot. Logic at it’s best. Just follow the crowd. After two jumps, maybe 4-5 people left. If you can’t last two jumps or so to thin the crowd out, then just give up now.

Gotta love people that dont know how to cheat the system:
A) using the knowledge from pretty much every N64 platformer to control the character via the camera not the actual character
B) using stability and/or stun breaks on this one to just jump back onto the rock if you dont manage a jump in time

But one thing is true, charr and norn covering where you actually have to jump is annoying.

When life gives you lemon, ask if its from a anime or manga.

They are rocks on giant steam columns. Aim to land in the middle of each column. Zoom out and look down (say at 60 degrees ish). You can also wait a rotation and let them all go first, this works well once you get to the first landing where you can wait between steam columns.

My main issue is that its not fun, it’s stressful because its timed. When you spend over an hour doing the same thing, well, isn’t that the definition of insanity? I play games to have fun in what I am doing, not to scream at the monitor cause I missed the jump for the 100th time.

I am of the impression that this is a one time event, so I only got a few days to try this. Grats to all of you who find this easy. I for one don’t, and I’m on my last nerve.

The events are just this weekend, the island and puzzles will remain. There is a red post stating so. You have days, weeks, months to play with the puzzle!

I failed miserably at clock tower. And I couldn’t do this one .. until I saw the video showing how to go in from the water. Even then I failed over and over until one of our group swapped to a mesmer. At which point I somehow jumped up with the mesmer and got to the ship that very go. The rest of it was simple, once done with the timed jumps onto temporary tiny platforms.

Even if I’d never been able to get up it (like Clock), I’d still applaud ANet for putting it in. It’s a pretty piece of artwork and a clever mechanic for jumping through. It’s purely optional to do, too, not being a gate to anything else or the sole source of some mega super gear.

In RL and in game, I’m pretty good at some things. I’m pretty terrible at others. ANet is doing a great job of putting in a wide variety of things, and not being able to master every single one of them makes it that much more immersive for me. Especially since the hardest bits are just there for the challenge for those that want a challenge!

Couple hints – if you fall into the steam vents, you can keep jumping between them, and use stability (if available) to avoid getting knocked out. If not, stand as deep in them as possible so the jet just knocks you around instead of off the side.

There’s a few tricky jumps in particular where that gives you the time to get back onto the platforms. Condition removal and good healing or high HP help.

If there’s a Mesmer around, Portal helps a lot in making sure you don’t have to start over.

After the second row of steam vents, take your time – there’s some tricky jumps ahead but no pressure anymore so you can focus on getting them right. Once you find the top of the cave, the chest is past the west end, and there’s a champion guarding another chest on an island to the north accessible over pieces of a shipwreck. (The loot in that one isn’t as good, nor was the loot from the champion the time I tried it.)

Please do more of these puzzles. This was fun! This puzzle will be here for a long time so just wait it out and try again. It’s just an achievement you will get anyway. Don’t put so much pressure on yourself. The mad king puzzle had a lot of pressure because it was here for a few days. Just wait and try again. Took me less than an hour after I timed the jumps right.

I was doing it yesterday with so many people I couldn’t see the platforms, I’m doing it now with one or two other people there and honestly I’m not finding it any different.

With any jumping puzzle you don’t need to be able to see your character, and if you’re looking at them all the time that’s probably a big part of your problem. All you need is an idea of where they are and where to go next, and in that sense other people can actually be helpful because you can watch where they go and get an idea of where to go yourself, or aim for them and be confident you’ll hit a platform instead of dropping through something that’s actually just artwork.

If a jumping puzzle requires 20 people to jump in the same spot at the same time, scrap it.

Start over and design it so that this is not a necessity.

One of the biggest complaitns you got with the halloween event was that the clocktower was too hard, because nobody could see themselves to know where they were or where they were going to be…and then in The Lost Shores, you include a jumping puzzle that requires a bunch of people to start in the same place, at the same time, at the same pace? :\

We can’t see ourselves, again. We can’t see where we’re going to land…again. Stop please.

I think you are being unreasonable, the problem with the clock tower was that it was a limited event where as this puzzle here to stay so there is no rush whatsoever.

If you think about it, it is rather impossible to make a puzzle with a timed jump where people do not jump onto the same spot. Even if you make different paths people will always prefer to use the easier one.

The first few hours that a map opens is always crazy, so if your problem is that you cannot see with all the people just come back and do it on another day.
I did it this morning and there where only 2 other people there doing the puzzle, and I had no problems with it at all. In fact I really enjoyed it and I think it was a great puzzle.

Personally, I’m not a fan of game elements that are based around inducing adrenaline. You know the “Zomg…..Zomg….Zomg…!!!!” moments. Some are ok but, for people to run puzzles like this for hours just isn’t healthy. Maybe would can get some thought based puzzles instead of speed based ones?

I agree with this SO much. There are a few jumping puzzles that are actually puzzles and those are always fun, but most are painfully easy to figure out. I’m not even sure why they’re called puzzles at all; they should be called reflex tests. This timed/moving platforms stuff is exactly why I don’t play first person shooters. I don’t like my adrenaline induced.

To the OP: You should definitely wait a week and then go do it. I know it’s annoying to have to do this, but what can you do? Suck it up!

I’m not usually a fan of jumping puzzles with a timed element, (I gave up on the Mad King’s clock tower after about 20 tries) but I really like this one. It’s a bit annoying to do when lots of other people are attempting it at the same time, but that problem will fix itself in a few days.

It’s great that the puzzle isn’t here for a limited time, and please. Do add more permanent puzzles! I absolutely love such a challenge, dragging me away a bit from killing things.
Personally I don’t thing such puzzles should be too easy. After all, where is the challenge if it’s easy? I don’t feel accomplished if I can do a jumping puzzle in 1 go :|

Why do people jump down someones throat if they express their feelings? Seriously. Some of you are so kittening rude.

The puzzle itself, is GREAT. It might not be a challenge for some, but for me, it is a challenge with or without groups of people in your way. I’m not the worst jumper but I am not as coordinated as others.

I agree, I refuse to do any puzzles if anyone is doing the same one. I just wait til they finish. I dont think you should HAVE to wait like everyone is suggesting though.

There is NO benefit or point in doing a jumping puzzle with other people. It is simply NOT a group activity. For fun, maybe, I have a friend I do jumping puzzles with sometimes. But they are not a fat norn, they are Asura. That makes them okay to be around.

However, sometimes you don’t want some kitten near you going “over here, dude, over here, over here, here, here over here here here NO YOU FELL here here herehere” or some kitten mesmer popping their portal in your face. It’s a nice thought but I prefer to do jumping puzzles the right way.

I think they should KEEP the puzzle and similar puzzles in the future but not one where, if you want to do the puzzle, you are forced to do it with others.

The skipping stones jumping puzzle is my favorite in the game now. I did it with some effort and felt accomplished. I liked the timed element. It gave me a feel of urgency that made it a lot more fun.

It was not anywhere near as difficult as the mad kings clocktower that i was unable to even complete. Wish I had the new computer back then maybe i could have.

Just log out and back in if you have a lot of people on your overflow server. That’s what I did until i got onto a server where it was me and one person doing the jumping puzzle. But if you want to kill the champion after the jumping puzzle you’ll need a more populated server or a couple skilled players.

I loved this jumping puzzle. I didn’t find other players being there problematic.

I like difficult and complex puzzles, the one at Pearl didn’t even feel like a puzzle. It was just me jumping toward a chest. There was no skill involved.

I can understand the complaints for tower (even though I thought it was more than fair) since it was a one time puzzle for a limited time only. With the stepping stones puzzle it’s here to stay, you can go back whenever you want when there are less people and have a blast.

I don’t want to be stuck with jumping puzzles I can do one handed because others can’t be bothered to wait for the crowd to die down. I’m all for them adding a mix of easy medium and clock tower-like difficulty puzzles so everyone can get something out of them.

If you don’t like it, do like I do and just don’t do the stupid things.

I got my annoyingly repetitive and unnecessarily imprecise platform gaming out of my system back in the 80s playing games like Mega Man 1. I’ll just look back on those wasted hours of youth fondly and sit back and laugh at the people who are just now getting that experience as they get knocked off the platform by steam for the 100th time in a row.

Seriously, it’s kind of funny to just stand there and watch people struggle with it.
