Seriously! I need to state my displeasure about the event, it unnecessary failed in so many ways and I am definitely not the only one! This is not mentioned to flame ANet, but to point out the problems of this weekend.

First: The whole event was haunted by massive lags and also stuttering for many (same issues with the dragons actually). It is not about my internetconnection – my internet is good enough and many of my guild had the same problems. Enemies plopping out of nowhere, you get damaged of invisible enemies, can’t activate skills, nothing happens anymore and people walking against walls. I had 5 disconnects over the last event and wasn’t able to log in again now. My armor is nearly completely damaged since I could not use my healing skill or could see the enemy attacking. The servers and the engine is not suited for such large scale events at all. Why didn’t you just make it a 20 player instance? Would have worked way better than this crap.

Second: The story behind this is a huge joke, isn’t it? The Consortium is behind it and we know it, now we commit genocide against a race? I don’t understand, what the Karka did to us that we need to overwhelm them like we did… The whole phase 2 and 3 where only slaughtering Karka while massive lag-invasion.

Third: You actually invited people to test out the game on an eventweekend where your servers are not really able to bear with the normal amount of players in some circumstances. Now you let people test the game under those circumstances that they get a bad impression of the game. Not to mention that the NPCs of phase 1 where bugging around a long time as well.

Fourth: I don’t get why you integrate new content when other stuff a) doesn’t work correctly or b) other things are announced to be released after the game release (dx10, guild halls). Yet you integrate gear progression, that was never a characteristic of Guild Wars (more the opposite). This would maybe be reasonable if you would release a complete add on (like Chanta), but for a small content update like this? Sorry, this is shortsighted and disappointing!

Over & out.

I really liked how intense the fighting was. Even during the reinforcement phases you had to be aware of your surroundings to not die. Only died a couble times but i am a necro so that is to be expected. I hope to see more events of this type in the future. It was really fun.

I did see the note about the webbing but didn’t see where that was … it wasn’t obvious to me where we were suppose to destroy the webbing anyway. Wow, I never saw the boss coming down either. Thank you for the info Spiked. As long as I know how it was suppose to go, I’m happy.

It was a great concept, but the technical issues, DC’s, Auth server dying and the inability for players who spent 3 hours in the event to get any kind of reward really bites and makes me really reluctant to join in future events. :/

I really hope you guys find a way to resolve this.

My comp crashed due to sound issue 5 mins before the event ended, and after spending 2.5 hours doing the event, was put back in another overflow that was already done and didn’t get the reward. Extremely disappointing as it was at least 20g+ worth of loot missed out on (not to mention the inflation and massive price drops on orange named items that I invest in)

After 6 attempts to finish this event, between DCing from lag or getting crammed into random overflows, I just now DCed right at the end of the event. I officially give up on this event and chalk this weekend up to a total loss.

I looked forward to this Lost Shores content ever since I heard about it, and now that it is here I realize how utterly horrible it was. Between the massive lag fests and the bugged events/NPC’s (Canach says hi) this event was just torture to participate in. I will most likely not take any future “one time events” seriously and probably not participate at all.

So after many frustrating hours and numerous silver spent on repairs from dieing to stuff I flat out can’t see…I must say I was quite disappointed in this event. Please do better next time ArenaNet and I hope you walk away from this and learned something…and by something I mean A LOT.

I am very dissatisfied. I spent 3 hours waiting for a stuck NPC in Phase 3 to move, and he never did. I never even got to see the final boss because of this bug, not to mention the loot.

I would have thought that over a 3 HOUR time period a GM or something would come and fix the event, or at least communicate with those of us on that server, but that proved to not be the case.

I have resolved to stop playing until those of us who missed out on rewards due to various bugs are compensated.

The end of today’s event created an MMO buzz unlike anything I’ve been a part of, mainly for one reason: EPIC LOOT IN A GIANT CHEST! Nice call, shake up the economy, and give us what we want. Made the 3 hour event that much better and “worth it”. Our guild of 400+ across 2 OTG guilds was buzzing, big time.

And you can believe, it is gonna make every one want to be there for the next one.

Congrats to you and your guild, but its sucky time for the rest of us that got Jack though.

I suggest a restart of the event would be good. People who looted already can’t loot the chest again (this system is already in place after the Halloween event). Since less players will be there the next time, there will also be less lag and risk of disconnecting.

Wall of text follows. Apologies in advance, some comments in no particular order which I’d love Anet to consider.

Lag
Game optimization is a lot of work and I don’t envy the devs here, but if the engine has issues with putting 200 people in one spot why not use the event mechanics to cater for it.

Instead of a zerg on the Ancient Karka, what if groups needed to attack and hold 8 defence turrets along the path simultaneously while another group with pact support were used as bait to lure it to the hive. Groups would need to control the points and then secure the next ones (leapfrogging turret to turret) as the creature moved along. It would increase the challenge / coordination of the event and would distribute the player base more evenly across the map.

Communication
Generally Anet do a good job of talking to their player base. That said we had a few problems this time around.

While twitter is a great medium for getting a message out fast, this isn’t the appropriate use for it. (ie stand near the lighthouse 10 min before event starts). Not everyone has facebook/twitter. You have an in-game mail engine, please use it for this. eg mail from Whispers Agent “PSST. I heard a rumour that you might want to be near…”

Start times.
You wont please everyone, in a world wide game, unfortunate fact. A timer on your website (hh:mm:ss) to help would simplify figuring out what time the event occurred. Again, an ingame mail say an hour before saying where and when would be good here.

One off events
With regard to the one off cutscenes, how about an asura reporter who chases around after big events, films it with an ethereal thingamabob and lets players review it for a few days afterward.

Gives people who can’t make it to the event a chance to see it and appreciate the effort of the artists who create them.

Disconnection issues
There are many who participated in todays event who missed out on seeing it to completion when the server disconnected them and they were thrown into an overflow which had already completed it (myself included). While I hate to use the word ‘entitled’, I do think that players who made the effort to participate in the event but who did not receive any items due to server issues which they could not do anything about shouldn’t be disadvantaged from those who were able to complete the event without d/c’ing.
Not jumping up and down about this, but it would be a nice gesture on Anets part. They have the logs, they know who was there.

Bugged NPC’s
I understand the desire to keep things secret to keep the surprises, but there was a lot of frustration on the state of the bugged NPCs, blocking key chains. I’m sure some thought will be put into preventing a repeat for Decembers event. Moving on…

New Commendation system
At the moment it doesn’t seem to be worthwhile to bother with this, not a lot of value here. Maybe I’m missing something.

The Lost Shores themselves
Aside from the karka shells and the new herb, what will draw us back to this zone tomorrow and the days following. The mobs are harder than Orr, there are only a couple of waypoints and events. Other than shell/herb farming, what makes this a zone that 80’s will return to?

Fractals of the Mists
Excellent dungeon, and alone makes this weekend worthwhile. That said you need to be very careful with the level thing so that we don’t get the waves of elitism that plague other MMO’s (refer to the evils of misused gearscore…). Resetting the level on a weekly/fortnightly basis would probably help this, otherwise it gets painful for newer 80’s.

Daily / Monthly Achievements

I do like some of the changes, but would it be asking to much to move the WvWvW monthly achievement to the PVP one. I am prefer to PVE and so this means that I usually end up at 75% complete each month. I went into WvW for map completion (a pain, but I am Ok with this), but I’m not going to do it on a regular basis (my 2c anyway).

Refer a friend
I applaud the intent here, though as implemented it has two drawbacks.
1. Limited time only ie this weekend which doesn’t give some the opportunity to try it.
2. As Kirk said “you are not exactly seeing us at our best.” Anyone coming into the game only in the last two days would have got a very skewed view of the state of the game which would have been very different to if they had logged in last week.

Overall

I don’t doubt there is some disappointment with the way this event turned out, both internally and externally, especially after the high standard set by halloween. We don’t need to slam Anet, they are perfectly aware of what the issues were here and we shall see how those lessons have been learned in December.

Overall, the event was a thumbs up for me, though not to the same standard as Octobers. I don’t doubt they will be reviewing the weekends results over the next few days.

Crashed the last 5 mins of event, unable to get back i was stuck on loading screen… no rewards…. great moment.

So now…. I guess that you will say “sorry” but “we can’t do nothing”……. bha..

Also add an insane server lag.

EDIT: I do not understand why game designer (or who create this sort of things) do not spread players around the world with a coordinated event, instead of concentrate all game players on the same pixel….. just to see frame lag… disconnections or server crash…. bha…

Having fun with the unhappy players zerg on facebook forums and what not? i seriously hope you guys are gonna fix this because if not everyone (myself included) who were unable to loot the chest at the end are very unahppy and wont likely take it, its not a threat but you honestly cant hold a one time event and only have a chest stay spawned a few minutes it simply aint gonna be accepted by the players especially when everything royally hits the fan as it has now.

DC’s, being pulled away by real life issues, being unable to log back in from dc’s or simply not being able to log in at all yeah talk about a seriously problem you surely have on your hands, you guys need to make a statement to let the players know what you are gonna do about this huge epic fail that just happened. To start, I love Guild Wars 2. It is overall a great game and very fun to play. I am however dissapointed by the Lost Shores event, despite being one of the lucky ones who actually got to loot the chest in the end. As everyone know this event took place over 3 days, a weekend. I was not willing to call out of work for the 3 days so I created a mental schedule which would allow me to complete the event entirely. I was very dissapointed when on day one bugs prevented me from doing any of the event. Even more dissapointing these errors persisted into day two and did not get a fixed until 4pm. The escort quests I took part in on the new lost shores zone bugged midway through causing them to be nothing more than time sinks. I know I do not have to mention the fact that the larger monsters did not drop a thing. I did manage to kill the ancient karka without dying, though it did take over 3 hours on the overflow server I was on and I, in the end, had to have my girlfriend complete the event for me being I had to head into work. I know for those who read this you’ll conclude that I was one of the lucky ones, which I am being I did recieve my reward. My complaint does not stem from the dissapointment of not recieving loot, it comes from the unpleasant nature of the event. At no point could I relax and enjoy what the new content had to offer being I had a corrupt timer floating above my head. The event made me feel tense, but not because LA was being invaded by giant crabs. It was tense because I spent the event wondering if it would ever work, or if I was missing one of the brief bug free moments when I was not signed on. I am honestly suprised that I managed to complete anything and what I did managed to do seemed to have no order or reason being it was cut with a bunch of bugs; bugs that became more notable than the actual event. The most fun time I had was telling “Noll” jokes with others who were waiting to progress. I hope arenanet is able to cordinate these events being they are one of their key promises to the players. This event leaves me with doubts being it was the first non-holiday event and it provides a good idea of how future events will unfold.

The idea for the event was great HOWEVER – it was AWFUL how they presented it:

- Constant Disconnects – surely i would have thought they would have learned from the Beta Weekends, the Head Start, The Release and Halloween that they have AWFUL servers when it comes to being busy. even now after FINALLY completing the even just over an hour ago i STILL am getting constantly disconnected.

Heres a Tip: If you want to do these “One Time” Events its a MUST that you put some work into upgrading your servers because they are THE worst i have encountered in a MMO.

- Laaaaaaaaaaaaag – As if the constant disconnects werent bad enough the event was riddled from start to finish with terrible lag at times it took MINUTES for the game to catch up with it self by which time i of course was dead and this happened more then once.

- Mobs , Okay i like a challenge but this event took it WAY to far at times we were fighting SEVERAL champion big mobs as well as ALOT of the smaller mobs and the insect things that was just stupid it was like you didnt put ANY thought into where mobs should be placed and let a 3 year old lose with it.

- Loot, Okay so i only managed to get the Karka Chest, annoying as that may be we have to accept that its not going to change as we know how useless you lot are when it comes to feed back (STILL waiting for class fixes MONTHS after release…) but allowing Pre-Cursers to drop was a HUGE mistake and it makes it WORSE for us that didnt actually get to pick up the loot that not only did some people get SEVERAL even trail players got some…

If this event is anything to go by for upcoming one time only events heres a tip – DONT bother with them, seriously they are a total waste of time and bugged most of it – you have some AMAZING game testers how you released that event i dont know another company would be embarrassed after that mess….

The event felt like a drag. I know a lot of you had a great event but my server/overflow/etc was super laggy. We had resets. We had 3 hours of one of the longest most boring events I have played. The respawns of waves was not fun at all. It usually meant 1/3 of the group dead. People running around naked, on their alts or just standing around cause of the lag. This is not bringing into play how I can’t even play on my Mac cause I crash on the Beta client.

I seriously felt like I was wasting 2 hours for nothing. Then someone says that there are exotics and a 20 slot bag at the end. Me and my buddy choose to stick it out, heck we wasted 2 hours already. Loot the chest and what do we get? Level 62 exotics and some other junk. Level 62? Really? Ugh. It made the 3 hours of disappointment even worse. Not only was the 20 slot bag the only reward, but we had 30 seconds lag that lasted for over 30 minutes. There were disconnects and I even once had to reboot my computer.

This event really made me rethink playing the game. Yes, that is how awful I felt after it was over. I just don’t want to log on and remember how much of a waste of time this was. I have already been kind of forcing my buddy to play so I have someone to play with. I think I am going to shelf the game for a while now. This entire weekend was a bust. This event really made me sad and frustrated. This is not how a one time only event should be.

People DO NOT want to buy precursors they are junk compared to crafting your own exotic lvl 80 weapon for practically nothing, 80% maybe higher wont even upgrade them to legendary. They were very cheap to begin 2-4G first few weeks up to a month when game went live, till the RMT raised the price on them, so even dropping to 50g is still to high.

Isn’t there a thing called “backup”? I asked you guys on Facebook if you really deleted the thread. And 2 minutes ago I got the following response:

“Of course not. There are lots of scattered threads about the same topic, so they are being merged in order to have a single central location for the topic. ~RB2”

Slightly contradicting and I’m feeling even more screwed over. But ok, let’s just ignore that. Well, anyway, here’s my feedback:

- Lag, lag, lag, did I mention lag? It was totally unplayable. I just stood around and couldn’t even attack, let alone revive people. Since the patch, you guys have kept silent, and silent and silent. Friday: laggy, Saturday: laggy, today: laggy. Honestly: next time, stop the event, apologize, work on the issues, and then start the event again.

For some good feedback: the new map looks astonishing, but…. that’s about it. There’s absolutely NO incentive to go there. No map completion rewards, enemies that two-shot you… even faster with my now useless Mesmer…. just boring.

I’m on the verge of quitting completely and I’m giving you my last straw. Bad, bad, feedback.

The last phase of the event was the least enjoyable experience I have had in the game to date. (The earlier phases were better and FotM is a very fun dungeon, this post is mostly about the last phase of the event).

o The lag was horrendous and I was on overflow. Players dying constantly due to invisible mobs that render right on top of you. My most vivid memories from this event will be laying there dead with dozens of other dead players all waiting to rez (because the run back was incredibly annoying and the zone horribly designed to prevent people from getting back to what they wanted to do but more on that later)

Regarding the lag, the number of people allowed into each shard could have been reduced and the difficulty of the event scaled.

o The waves of mobs simply became tedious. By the end it was no longer remotely fun and I’m not sure this would have been any different without the lag. The trash mobs could have been in half, making the event an hour or hour and a half, which would have been far more tolerable. Not fun perhaps, but tolerable.

o Running back and forth over that zone. First we have to run to the south end of the island, then back up, then back, then forth, etc. This was fine when you were in the event zerg but when you were solo trying to run through mobs who use Cripple and various other effects meant to inhibit your travel. If you waypointed after dying you wasted more time traveling rather than doing anything fun (or you simply died again trying to get back to the event).

The headcrabs or whatever those mobs are should simply be removed Massive numbers of them added to the already hideous lag and they needlessly slowed down players who were simply trying to get back or travel.

Don’t prevent your players from trying to do what they want to do. The Cripple effects in this zone and the headcrab mobs latching onto players and slowing down travel were pointless and would have been better left out entirely. (And I don’t care you could roll to kill those mobs. That was not obvious and if they slowed down players even ONCE that was too much)

o The zone itself makes things needlessly annoying with all of those steps and uneven terrain but perhaps it was the lag that made things particularly difficult simply moving around during the fights. Having the event take place only on areas with flatter terrain would not have reduced the difficulty and taking away yet another annoying factor in the event.

o The -only- time I found myself moderately enjoying the event was defending the bridge near the waypoint camp. Partly because the lag was less and mostly because the waypoint was right there. You could get back into the action without needing to avoid mobs.

I am thankful this is one-time only event. I never want to see anything like this ever again. After the Halloween event which was so well done and so much fun, this was a glaring contrast, a bug-filled and thorroghly un-enjoyable experience.

On the positive side, I did enjoy the build-up to the event. The whales and the story were intriguing. And ArenaNet fixed the bugged scavenger hunt mission quickly enough. It’s too bad that the final event left such a bad taste in my mouth.

I am glad that I’m not one of the unfortunate people who had to suffer through this event without even getting any reward. I hope ArenaNet will take steps to do something about that. I was able to get the rewards but I would trade -all- of that loot simply if the event could have given half the entertainment as a single Fractal run.

Overall, this was a disappointment. If ArenaNet meant for this to be a way to attract new players with the Invite a Friend, I worry that it did not leave a very good impression.

Phase 3 yea… had something unavoidable to do today, got home at 2:15 PST and logged on thinking this event would run for the last day of this event, checked out the mail telling me to go check out the epic finale of this event, got over there and found out this ran one time and one time only, looked in my mail again and saw a big middle finger signed “compliments of ArenaNet”, so its safe to say this has been a bit of a disappointment.

I don’t understand why this event wouldn’t run every few hours for the last day of this like a normal world boss so folks (like myself) that weren’t able to schedule our lives around this can experience this event.

SOUTHSUN COVE: 7/10

This zone is beautiful. It’s well put together and it’s not too big. Lots of Orichalcum nodes for us metalworkers. However, the enemy difficulty here is absolutely absurd. Reef Drakes stack 6+ confusion in less than 10 seconds and confuse with every attack. Young Karka demolish anyone without fast hands or a quick block using their spit attack. Veteran Karka have Champion level HP and can kill 10-20 players in one attack. Champion Karka have Legendary HP and have poison spit that cannot be blocked or reflected. ALL shelled Karka regaining HP after their shell is broken? Bad idea is bad.

ONE TIME EVENT: 3/10

Good on you guys for doing cool stuff. Bad on you guys for making it literally one-time only. The Halloween cutscene repeated for a while so people could see it, but once a server downed the Ancient Karka that was it. What’s worse is that the reward chest gave a shot at Precursors. Thanks a ton; that just makes missing out even more painful.

EVENT READINESS: 1/10

Phase one is still broken. Phase two was nothing special. Phase three doesn’t repeat and punishes players for missing it, especially when there was a shot at 200+ gold through a precursor.

Great event Really enjoyed every element in it. It raises the bar for what MMO devs can achieve in in-game events.

All this event did was further drive wedges between players and Anet. It worked for some.. those few will hardly create any buzz at all. However, people that feel like they were wronged will shout from the highest building till they lose their voice.

The event was not well done. People got kicked out and couldn’t get back on. People spent 2 hours on the event and then, never got to see the end of it.

It was flawed to the core.

My main issue is the precursors.

We all took part in a grueling 2+ hours, why not ensure we all get some same scale of rewards, precursors are a HUGE difference and it is not fun hearing people getting them in mass ammounts while you are one of the unlucky ones getting none. Any other item wouldn’t have been so bad but precursors are a major mistake.

Spent 3 hours on the event. Glitched through the ground into the lava on the final fight. Couldn’t connect with server when I waypointed. Logged back in and got no loot. Seriously upset.

My client was disconnected twice during the event (unable to connect to the login server)… On the first time I was able to get back to an overflow server where the event was still going on. On the second time (during the second wave of reinforcements) I got just a message telling that “The Sea of Sorrows is quiet once again”. I tried to find another overflow to complete the event but I wasn’t luck enough. A lot of people (myself included) got nothing besides 3 hours wasted, unplayable lag, tons of silver spent on teleport and armor repairs… What about the the feeling of completeness when the gold medal appears? Karma, xp, loot, gold? Yeah, I’m really frustrated…

Lynx: some of us missed this event completely tonight because of login issues and therefore missed out on all the goodies. I’m one of those people, and I sure would like to get to see the event and get atleast the 20-slot bag.

You and me both…

I loved the event. It was kitten hard, and that was really satisfying to beat. It really made all of us on the overflow bond, I felt.

That being said, I was kicked out when we got to the final phase. Disconnected. And then I couldn’t find the overflow. So I received no reward. It might be good if there was some way we could find our original overflow again. Or at least receive the reward by mail or something.

GOOD JOB ANET. Despite all the negativity for the one time only event that you guys are getting from the forums, I am here to assure you that the majority of us don’t feel this way. The event was GOOD. I had 0 problems with lag despite the full overflow, I got great loot from the chest, and it didn’t bug out like everything else. It felt super epic all the way through. Only complaint I could even possibly have was it was pretty long, but still I was expecting that so it wasn’t that bad. Credit must be given where credit is due, best event yet.

I killed crabs for two hours, lagging for sometimes more than ten seconds between skills and then DCed and was unable to log in again in time to get my reward. Unless you implement an NPC like the Haloween one to hand out rewards to those who earned them then my feedback will most definitely be negative.

Scheduling
One thing I think ANet really needs to reconsider with their events in general is scheduling. One of the biggest problems, to my mind, between both the Mad King and Lost Shores is how tightly they scheduled them.

In and of itself, the schedule for the Mad King was good. Two weeks should be enough time for most people to experience the content and have their fun with it.

The problem with the Mad King, of course, was when Hurricane Sandy hit, a lot of people were shut out of the game, and Lost Shores was scheduled so tightly on the tail of MK, there was no wiggle room to extend or repeat the event.

Then we have Lost Shores: three mutually exclusive event phases, each scheduled one day apart, on a weekend. First, this puts a lot of time pressure on people who want to experience the event, which significantly detracts from the experience. Second, it gives no time to fix bugs or problems. Bugs are going to happen. No matter how much you test something, when you throw it out into a live environment and it gets pounded by several hundred-thousand people at once, things are going to go * bloink! *

I think for the future, ANet should consider scheduling their events so that:

1: They have enough time to fix the inevitable problems that crop up.

2: The majority of players have enough time to experience the fixed content.

3: There’s enough time to extend or repeat the event if necessary.

One-time events
Obviously, ANet need to put some more thought into how they handle one-time events, but I think part of that process should be discussing if they even want to continue doing them.

Personally, I like the idea of one-time events. They’re immersive, and they build nicely on the vision of GW2 as a living, breathing world where events actually matter and have world-changing impact.

But I think it’s possible we’ve hit a tipping point where improving immersion actually detracts from the game experience.

I don’t have a good suggestion here. All I can do is give my personal experience. I play for story and content. I really enjoy GW2, and I want to participate in the events and see what happens. But having to choose between scheduling my weekend around a series of one-time events or just missing them … well, it just drags the game experience down, makes it far more negative than positive.

For me personally, I’m more than willing to sacrifice immersion to have a chance to experience event content on a less restrictive schedule. I really don’t care about spoilers being posted on YouTube or elsewhere; if I don’t want spoilers, I just don’t watch. I also like it when people have time to post the details of an event on the Wiki, so if I do get stuck or confused, I can go there and figure out where I’m supposed to go and what I’m supposed to do.

All in all, I hope ANet can come up with a good way to do one-time events—they’re a neat idea. But as it stands now, my game experience would definitely be better without them than with them.

Personally, I’m not a fan of game elements that are based around inducing adrenaline. You know the “Zomg…..Zomg….Zomg…!!!!” moments. Some are ok but, for people to run puzzles like this for hours just isn’t healthy. Maybe would can get some thought based puzzles instead of speed based ones?

There are thought based puzzles like this one:
