Love the Ancestral Outfit !
If it was armor pieces, I would have bought it.
Even if it was town clothes, I would have…
But without mixing and matching, unfortunately, this is no good to me, which is such a shame as it looks stunning.

Cool thing is you can wear it in combat, it’s accountbound so you get it on all your characters (without having to swap it around I might add), plus there’s no transmutation charges to use it – just toggle on and off.
A really well made set. Can use backpieces with it also
Not something I’m interested in, but it’s nice work, and I’m glad there is a market for it. I’m sure many will enjoy it.
Oh man. Just take all my gems, ArenaNet. sigh.

Gahhh if only it wasn’t an outfit I would buy it in a heartbeat!
I don’t get it. I love the outfits. I have Mad King’s and Fancy Winter and I’ll have Ancestral by the end of the day. I guess to each his or her own.

I think outfits are amazing. 0 charges to use. Dyeable. Adorable. Usable in combat. Win.
And all who stood by and did nothing, who are they to criticize the sacrifices of others?
Our blood has bought their lives.
And it looks like it dyes very nicely. Gotta check it out for sure.

I really like mixing and matching armours to get something that I like. With an outfit like this you can’t do that, and you can’t use other things you’ve bought from the gem shop or otherwise in conjunction with it (in my case reading glasses.)
Kinda a bummer because I really like how it looks.

I mean, if you like it, buy it. I don’t know what else to say. The outfit system works pretty well – far better than town clothes did, in my opinion – and while people are certainly welcome to “boycott” the outfit system, I think it means missing out on some really great sets.
I never bought town clothes because I never used town clothes. I’ve bought several outfits and use them frequently. I guess that’s all I can say.

While I prefer mix and match (3 pieces from 3 different store leather sets come to mind), I’m not opposed to the idea of full piece outfits (the pirate one is cute enough), I don’t have any confidence the ‘live’ team (whoever is helming it now, or drives design decisions) would ever produce something I’d be interested in. Based on the original character models, running animations, and earlier work, I suspect the development team (or maybe older live team), might have.
The new piece is nice enough, and if enough people enjoy that vs things I might enjoy that the dollars dictate concentrating on more items like that, then as with all things, it will be weighed and considered as I move forward.
I do like the black cub, even though it’s just the old lion cub spray painted black. I might get that for my Ranger, and then use the black panther combat pet.
Saving more of my money these days for new heroes and costumes.
:s I just don’t understand why it looks so different on a male and female again. I love it on my female characters, but on male it’s just “bleh”. Why did it suddenly change into long-sleeved, chest concealing clothes with a completely different cut and style?
The female version is nice as always though.

something like this would be nice (fast overpaint etcetc)

I love this outfit so much. Thank you, Anet, for finally letting my asura look feminine!
Question: Can you toggle OFF the dragon around the neck that is on the ancestral outfit?? Anyone know

How did i even for just one second could think it would become something else than a gemshop item

You can get it for 80 gold or so. That’s not completely unreasonable. Granted, I’ll just be buying directly with gems because I’m way wealthier in real life than in game.

Darn, my character bugged and showed my Helmet was gonna show with it. Would of been awesome. Since the costume has no helm of it’s own Anet really should consider allowing it to show whatever one you’re currently wearing unless toggled off. ;x
Anyways, looks cool. I don’t see why pieces like this couldn’t be medium armor though instead of a costume. Medium pants are pretty much already like these ones. Oh well.

Thats not my problem.

That’s it, your on the right track. Copy your own game more often and GW2 may still have a chance to become something unique.

It’s like this – you are the DM. Follow your own “adventure” within the given playground (big bad boss stole the princess garnments, or she lost the dress in a tree and you have to chop them all down until you find the right one) and once you earned 80G have it “drop” for you.
I might have just enough gold to pull that off for myself … mhhhh.

I probably won’t buy another outfit anytime soon… I just like it so much. Unless they release anise’s outfit. :/

Apparently males can’t dye pants n shirt different colors but females can. O_o
being a male in today’s society is so hard.
ANET: A few things you can fix on the NEW ancestral outfit. If we could toggle OFF the dragon that is around the shoulders, and if we could toggle OFF the gloves too that would be great. And why isn’t the stones on the arm and on the ankle dyeable? And there is a scale on the back of the out fit that looks like the outfit has a hole in it, the scale is not matching or something it looks strange like the dyes is not attaching to it or something..plz fix if possible. In certain light it looks like a white hole with any color dye.
Blah there’s an ugly clipping issue at the hips when just standing around. -_-

So why is this gender specif on Asuras and Charrs? It looks awful on Charrs, I choose that race to play mostly to avoid armors and clothes I did not like, somehow arenanet decide to do the female version on this races because of reasons?? why not give us the option to choose one of the versions then? because I am hating how they are forcing us to have only one option even on races that make no sense.
Here are my fancy pajamas.
Is there some interaction with the sylvari glow at all?

Looks ok, nice that it’s account wide.

Yes! Finally my asura can look like a cute little doll
(Now make the flamekissed top look less weird on asura females plz)!
what a shame that it can’t mix and match.
missed the witches outfit ):.. will possibly get this though. Its nice.
I dont mind the lack of mix & match. Being able to use in combat without changing your armour, thats pretty nifty
This is great. Sure it would be nice if they were armor skins you could mix and match but costumes you can switch on an off for no transmutation cost, are dyeable and can be used in combat is similar to the system as Guild Wars 1. Now if they were to make the headpieces and body of the suit separable it would be identical.
It’s really nice and I hope they make more.

Wish I could plus one this more than once. Lovely overpaint. I’m tired of the vast difference between male and female skins. Granted, this is a lot closer than many other sets, but imo not close enough.
Why do male charr get a cool dragon tail but female charr don’t? Humanoid ladies get a cool a-symmetrical sleeve style but the menfolk don’t. The male pattern is apparently allergic to tight pants (whyyy) and only gets one patterned wrap on the legging while females get two. At least the female boob window (please put this on men. Please) is relatively modest as far as GW2 goes, I guess.
It’s just such a lovely skin for female characters in general… I wish it would be as interesting or unique on my male characters/female char.
Mostly what’s keeping me from buying it, though, is that it’s not proper armor. If I can’t mix and match, I’m wholly uninterested.
Blah there’s an ugly clipping issue at the hips when just standing around. -_-
Tons of ugly clipping issues with this one.
- Around the hips
- On the front on the legs
- The dragon around the neck with most hair that is longer (wish it could be toggled off)
Love the look but the clipping kinda screws that up.
Oh and also wish you could mix things, or at least toggle parts off.

Just adding some Cantha-love to this discussion. Love the outfit!
I prefer outfits then armor skins.
You buy them once and then you can use them on all characters as many times you like without any extra cost or transmutation charges.
This is the way to go A-Net.
Most of may characters are dressed up in outfits and i don’t give a **** about how my armor looks underneath
Really like some of the pieces and I’m a big fan of asymmetrical design but having it be an all one-piece jumpsuit doesn’t thrill me.
Overall nice design though.
I wasn’t going to buy it, but as I had a ton of refund gems from all my ruined town clothes I figured it looked nice enough to toss some of those at it. The dye fields are a little wonky on guys, especially how the shoe color links in. I think others in this thread have done better on the male outfit dyes than I have, but I just spent some time customizing almost all my alts in Ancestral. Almost because I love the Cook’s on my norn female too much to have to reset the dye job due to swapping outfits. Anyway, here’s a lot of front shots of how the dye affects the look (Dulfy already did great turnarounds to show the outfit itself). Sorry the shoes don’t show in Character Selection, this was the fastest way to get shots in good lighting.
Same here! I’ve used it on three of my characters so far. I love how the male charr tail makes the dragon look like it’s flying around in the air.
Blah there’s an ugly clipping issue at the hips when just standing around. -_-
Notice that too. Could this be fixed? Thats an awesome outfit, but the clipping issue is… :/
