The new change hardly seems worth it after 100% magic find. Over 250 exotic essences only got me from level 55 to 86 magic find. The scaling is also starting to increase and I am losing the opportunity to sell my blues and greens when I salvage them. You start needing 1000s of greens to make meaningful progress.

MF is not what it used to be, this change was a clever way to massively nerfing most farmers drops, slightly improving the average players drops, and conducting a stupidity check on anyone silly enough to try and continue to pump the stat up, it will cost you way way more to raise the stat then having the stat will ever gain you

On the Merged Magic find Thread, someone from Anet said they would compensate people with MF. That has not happened, people with MF got the same as everyone else.

i believe the compensation was the ability to choose a new stat combination from your previous mf gear.

Yes, and that the gear would become account-bound.. They didn’t say anything about that the mf-gear that were allready souldbound would remain soulbound.. Something that they in secret added into the patch-notes after people started complaining about it..

How “worth it” that it is depends entirely upon how much you continue to play after the fact.

Since the account-magic find is forever, the more things you kill, the more benefit you get from it.

While over 100% may not be worth it for a large amount of the player base, it is still something to strive for. It’s there for those who play the game obsessively and want to be one of the few with 300%. (If anyone has already)

This thread’s been necroed from page 25 or so.

The new change is amazing, no longer need to sacrifice stats for MF gain. Drops are more valuable and there’s constant progression. The Diablo paragon system was a similarly great idea.

What level magic find are you to say that this is a great idea? You know how boring it is to salvage 1000s of greens? Blues hardly do much and you get a lot of blues from normal play.

You are sacrificing gold now instead of stats. Constant progression by clicking incessantly? That is definitely not fun. Also the opportunity costs of salvaging the items and then having to sell all of the materials that were salvaged. The new system is very time consuming in a way that is not fun.

You will see how the system loses its fun factor after magic find level 100. Some people love grinding and wasting their life on content that is not meaningful.

I was under the impression when I bought Guild Wars 2 that anti grind mechanisms existed. They did for a while and now with the new magic find and ascended weapons, that philosophy appears to have changed. Cosmetic upgrades used to be for those who love grinding but magic find and more stats on weapons is not cosmetic.

The only thing that annoys me about the change is that green sigils now fill my inventory.

As for wasting time/money getting expensive magic find gear, you aren’t losing the gear itself and get to choose your new stats anyway. So your investments there aren’t wasted.

So what is the freaking problem? They’ve made this transition as smooth as possible for everyone.

Seems that impatience is the only legitimate concern here.

My problem is we clearly didn’t have any choice as regards how the runes were changed, it was imposed on us. While those with Traveler runes are clearly ahead in value those with Pirate runes have ones that are effectively worthless – they aren’t worth salvaging the armor for so what we will have to do is put another set of runes over the top.

Had they given the option, ‘hey, we’ll be generous, you can have traveler runes too!’ I would have been much more happy.

I agree there should have been a choice to change the armor into a runeset of our choice because of this imposition. A years worth of worthless greens that no one could have possibly saved enough of to get us up to at least 100% for those of us who had this armor would have been nice too! Seriously it was not handled properly.

I was one of the lucky few who used cheap travelers runes because they were literally 2 silver each when I bought them. Man did it work out for me, best runeset I ever bought! Hope they do that for a couple of other ignored runesets!

I’ve been looking at this magic find total for how much luck essence that you actually need for the 300% and I’ve seen some posts that indicate that you would need like 4,800,000 points of luck essence to equal to the 300% in magic find that would top this skill off. If this is the case holy smokes this seems really unstable to me and pretty ridiculous, I mean I wonder how long it would take someone to farm that much luck essence and is it even possible?

4,295,450 luck for 300% MF. However to reach 150% MF is only 496,890 luck. So for aprox 11% of the total luck needed to max you get half the reward.

It’s not the most common thing, but there are several people that have 300% MF (myself included). I didn’t farm champs, I bought things off of the TP specifically to salvage and profit off of the mats. I just put buy orders up at night before I went to bed and would wake up to 50k luck regularly. Anyone can do it. Check the link in my sig.

Well it is meant to be a long term goal. And also for most people, a gold sink (aside from people like Aberrant). I play fairly regularly (usually 2-4 hours a night) except for the past 2 weeks or so and mostly kill world bosses. I’ve managed to get my luck to roughly 110-115%.

Personally, the daily/monthly luck rewards are what annoy me the most. 500 is a decent amount at the lower levels, but that drops off quickly. It would be nice if at a certain luck threshold the dailies/monthlies awarded a special type of luck that gave you 1%/10% of your current level. It can’t be from the start because people will just hoard it like we did the karma jugs, but once it takes the same amount to get each new percent it would be nice to have some slow, but steady progress.
