I understand the confusion. The facts do agree with each other when you consider that ArenaNet is the god of GW and has decreed that what was once is no longer. They decided to change the game by removing Magic Find from gear. They decided that some sets were to be removed completely and replaced with other sets and that Celestial gear would only have the Magic Find removed. They also decided that by doing so, the sets would be balanced based on the new line they created.

Yes, exactly. Thus the confusion. Because they changed the balance, and insist that it remained unchanged. If celestial sets were balanced then, and are balanced now, it is only because the word “balance” got redefined to a different meaning. Especially since the celestial sets were actually inferior to the rest even before MF removal.
Which is completely beside the point, by the way. The point is, that lot of people made/bought celestial gear only because it contained MF stat. many did that even before Anet reached decision about MF removal.
In other words, they did exactly the same thing as people that bought/crafted double stat + MF sets. And yet they are treated differently.

Actions, not words.

We will have a blog post about it with more extensive information as well, keep an eye on the website.

And this is the kind of thing that gets the community ticked off at you. Still no post.

Btw, the “blog” that used to be a button near forums/support/wiki doesn’t exist anymore so I’m assuming you mean news under the community tab (always wondered if this was hidden intentionally or just poor layout design, news is kinda an important thing that you want out in the open and should yell at you when there’s something new) or twitter.

You want to know the nuts and bolts of the “why” and that’s fine, but the reality is the “why” really is as simple as “ArenaNet decided” and that’s likely the best you can expect to get.

So your argument is basically “it is fine because they decide so”.
I wonder why i even lost time replying.

They will have the same combat effectiveness. Do you really feel the need to have more boon duration than givers with your already having more crit dmg than zerker?

Then why are they changing explorers, travelers and suchs? After all, “they would have the same combat effectiveness. Do they really need some other stat?”

They’re doing so because those sets were balanced by also having magic find, exactly as celestials were.
And while people will be able to choose other attributes for those sets, people using celestial will have their slight loot bonus removed and anything in compensation – even if those items were balanced by also having said bonus.

Because they clearly weren’t actually balanced under the same math to begin with, you were given the MF as a bonus already. If you really want to analyze celestial by comparing to other sets then fine.

1. You have the MF as your primary stat because you have the same MF as the tri-stat MF sets.
2. You have more crit dmg than the minor on zerker gear.
3. The rest of your stats must then be equivalent to slightly less than 1 minor stat.

They’re not. You were given the MF as a freebie already. Go home and stop complaining as your gear is already over budget.

Then if it was unbalanced, why didn’t they fix it when they introduced armors and weapons – a month ago? Instead of putting items that would have been nerfed a month later?
Because they were considered balanced, in whatever system they were using.
And the only thing that is changing with the new patch is the removal of magic find from celestials – all the other types aren’t going to exist anymore. So, how it is balanced now, after losing a stat and getting anything in return?
I’m still waiting for a reply about the first paragraph. No one has explained me yet why that happened, and why i shouldn’t consider that a scam, since they must have knew those would have been nerfed.

I hope its not just limited to the standard zerk, rampager’s, carrion, cleric, knight’s sets because turning my magic find sets into stuff I already have plenty of doesn’t feel like much of a compensation tbh…

I’m thinking that’s exactly what we’ll get.

Take a look at the WvW vendor…we’re getting screwed one way or another.

Don’t know what you guys were thinking when you cooked this up.

Either give celestial: boon duration, condition duration, or increase its given stats. Don’t punish people who invested the time-grind to get the pieces (as every single individual piece requires a pure time investment that doesn’t exist for any other prefix) simply because you lacked the foresight to not include a stat you were going to later purge as a part of your many whimsical design flight of fancies.

Similarly what’s to become of giver’s trinkets? Are they going to end up with just two stats or are they going to have boon duration like they should’ve had from the start? dat planning, smh

All the superior runes, sigils, ascended pieces with MF and no good explanation of what we have to expect.

By that reasoning by having the stat on Celestial originally they defined it as being in line, what has changed to make Celestial out of line, or more powerful and deserving of a nerf?

There are only two possibilities either Celestial was overpowered and in need of a nerf to bring it in balance, or Celestial was in line and is now getting nerfed because of… reasons.

Your theory is all speculation and while it could be entirely true that the devs think that Celestial is out of line with the other sets and needed a nerf, I would rather hear it from them directly.

Fact: All gear was in line prior to the change.
Fact: All gear is having Magic Find % removed.
Fact: Non-Celestial Gear is being replaced with other gear in order to make it in line.
Fact: Celestial Gear is not being replaced but is instead losing Magic Find % to make it in line.

Those are the facts. You cannot disagree with them being facts without being irrational. You can, however, argue that the facts are not fair.

You cannot be serious…you blatantly contradict yourself…

Anet make mistakes. Constantly; especially with their speed of content release. Was Gauntlet farming ‘in line’? Were the zillions of balance changes ‘in line’?

That is not how stat value is measured. The proof of that is all around you. Players can right now have 100% full every slot celestial gear. If the value of celestial was so overbudget and over powered why aren’t there “LF3M must have full celestial” posts and complaints about those posts? Simple. Even though the stats on celestial are more in total. They mean less because of the lack of focus. this is a basic principle in all stat gear in many games.

Most players understand this and so celestial is considered not only not the best but one of the worst. which begs to question why does it need to be nerfed especially when it has the longest time gating of any set.

I agree. Either they should remove the time gating or buff the celestial in some way, add a new status or a little buff to the current. I personally don’t agree with adding 1% of boon duration, the Giver’s will become obsolete (already is), but not if they buff the giver’s to +2% boon duration, then, I’m ok.

To be honest as much as I would like to see boon or condition duration. I believe the best options are

Karma gain
Gold gain
XP gain.
Stat boost (Id image it would equate to 3-4 for low stat gear and 6-7 for the high stat gear)

because it’s not about buffing Celestial its about keeping it at the value level it was at before the change. And lets be honest, without MF Celestial is going to lose value no matter what.

Magic Find [merged]

The problem with those changes are…

Karma gain

…that aside from its utility, this got nerfed in this patch as long as consumable items go, was reverted and will be nerfed back in the next patch…

Gold gain

…this was nerfed the patch before, when they changed champions’ rewards, being it gold per kills (and the increase from a couple items may even be too small to effectively increase the coin dropped)…

XP gain.

…and this isn’t that useful at level 80 – that is, when you can equip said celestial items.

So the only other option, beside putting in some other stats, is giving it a

Stat boost (Id image it would equate to 3-4 for low stat gear and 6-7 for the high stat gear)

cause as you say below the whole matter is

because it’s not about buffing Celestial its about keeping it at the value level it was at before the change. And lets be honest, without MF Celestial is going to lose value no matter what.

Why not. They have lower effective stats compared to other geartypes even though the raw stats are higher.

Two reasons, there are more reasons as well, are that they are low in power (main damage stat) and that they gain less in absolute numbers from multiplicative damage traits.

The truth is that they are subpar to begin with.

Adding karma/gold/xp is useless for the ones usling them in wvw or as farming gear and most important of all, the stat was partly removed because it was a selfish stat. Adding karma etc would be repeating the mistake.

Add boonduration (boost givers, it is needed) or just a flat increase of existing stats.

Or just refund laurels, ecto and crystals, problem solved.

Adding karma/gold May be in a way repeating the problem as before I agree. But on some level they seem to be fine leaving those in the game as is.

XP may be very useful even for 80’s soon because of the new skill that will be introduced as the game goes on. We don’t know yet.

the flat increase IMHO is the best option. boon duration can get out of control easily and could really boost the effectiveness of the set. (I’m assuming that the current celestial is exactly where they want it.)

it has some of the best distributions of crit damage and higher total stats.

Hope you realise that you can get better stats by mixing different gear types compared to a full celestial. And that crit damage is worth very little if you dont have the power to back it up with. Crit damage is the worst dps enhancer.

For instance if you have 50% crit chance and 50% crit damage and increase to 100% crit damage you increase dps with 16% which corresponds to approx 200 power in a celestial build. That is how bad it is, and ofc the low power is just pathetic with multiplicative enhancers.

We all know the % boon duration on giver’s is an utter joke and for whatever reason, not balanced.

And get off the crit dmg thing already. It’s irrelevant as the other stats are so bad that a percent or two is meaningless. No one cares about the crit dmg, distribute it to the other stats for all that it matters. What people do care about is taking an already bad set that had some limited appeal because of the magic find and taking away about the only thing it had going for it. This is made even more frustrating because it was recently introduced and made time-gated to craft (harder than any other armor set).

True on running MF in dungeons. False on zerker being empirically better everywhere and for all classes. Condi-based sets are quite powerful if done right, as are bunker builds for particular classes.

If you truly think zerker is the king of everything, I dare you to run pure zerker in PvP, WvW, and dungeons on all classes and come back still thinking that is true.

By ‘balance’ they mean combat power. Celestial gear will have exactly the same killing power, survivability and so on as it did before the MF removal.

It’s true that the combat efficacy of the set won’t change. But there are still stat points being lost that were taken into account balance-wise when the set was created. It’s the loss of the stat points that is irritating people, along with the fact that many got the set to have MF without losing most stats at the same time. Others running MF sets are being recompensed, but not celestial users, even if MF is the reason they got the set.

And yes, the information that MF was on it’s way out was disseminated on the main website, but not all players go there frequently or the entirety of the blog postings.

I think this is a really important question. Once the items become account bound and we select the new stats, do they become soulbound on use or remain account bound? Similar in function to the Ancient Karka Shell.

Which leads me to my next question, being a celestial stat item, I’m guessing the Ancient Karka Shell is having it’s MF removed only? I bought gems to convert to gold for that thing at the time.

because it’s not about buffing Celestial its about keeping it at the value level it was at before the change.

The answer is simple then buff power to compensate.

Hey all, no worries, we got you covered.

Weapons, armor and trinkets with magic find will become account bound, lose their current stats and will gain the ability to be double-clicked to select one of several stat options depending on the item.

For example, if you have an Explorer’s Pearl Staff, you can now double-click it to change it to any other crafting stat.

We will have a blog post about it with more extensive information as well, keep an eye on the website.

Can we change those to Giver’s, Sentinel’s, Apothecary’s, and Celestial ?

I’m not an english speaker. So my english is super poor. Very SOrry!

I say just be smart about this while you can be.

Stop complaining about the non-compensation for Celestial (if you got it only for the magic find, what were you thinking?); it’s going to be easy enough to buff your magic find ACCOUNTWIDE anyway, from the sounds of it. Fine and Masterwork items drop like candy, after all.

In the meantime, craft Explorable sets to change them into more useful sets for cheap when the patch rolls around.

I doubt they will let us choose celestial because that set is time gated, however I don’t think it’s unfair to let us have a chance at the others, especially as Anet didn’t allow us to actually craft the sentinels insignias. It would be nice to get another chance to get this gear type.

In reference to ascended items:

reach the same level I’m at right now… …said no one, ever.

My money’s not on Celestial either. I do wonder what will happen to the Explorer’s insignia set. I don’t think it will be a stat change because then ANet would just do that rather than letting us pick from the other available insignias of the appropriate level. What about the crafting? Will we just cease to be able to craft Explorer’s gear? And claws, what will they be good for in a post-Explorer era?

They will have the same combat effectiveness. Do you really feel the need to have more boon duration than givers with your already having more crit dmg than zerker?

No, i feel the need for Anet to include celestial gear to the"reroll" treatment that all other MF sets get.

By ‘balance’ they mean combat power. Celestial gear will have exactly the same killing power, survivability and so on as it did before the MF removal.

Well, it certainly doesn’t mean that – zerker, celestial and traveller did not have the same combat power – so, if they were balanced originally, non-combat value must have been included into balance calculation as well.

The conversation has shifted into a discussion about Celestial gear now, which is confirmed to not be getting the consumable treatment.

We have searched further. Dulfy’s information was culled from the website and from this very forum thread. There has been no further information yet disseminated.

If you truly think zerker is the king of everything, I dare you to run pure zerker in PvP, WvW, and dungeons on all classes and come back still thinking that is true.

Why in the hell would i want all classes into a dungeon though? I want 3 warriors, 1 mesmer and 1 thief. Zerger necro works too, given he knows how to dodge.

PvP is separate thing and has nothing to do with the MF change.

What is going to happen to recipes? Ones that you can buy or ones that we have learned? Are they going to be adjusted or disappear?

I believe the developer in this thread indicated they would be changed to produce a new stat combo.

EDIT:

I am sorry you had a bad experience in your former job. Here our developers actually talk to us and give us information we need. So what I am posting here is coming straight from the people working on the changes.

To answer a few more questions:

  • If you currently have listed an item with MF on the Trading Post, they will be returned to you, as they become account bound.
  • Upgrade components that currently give MF bonus will be updated with new functionality.
  • All existing drops and crafting recipes that have created Magic Find gear will be replaced with new stat combos.
