“Displeasing” is relative. WvW map completion may be displeasing to you and it may be enjoyable to me. I find gathering a full stack of each T6 mat to be displeasing, yet I don’t make threads here on the forums asking it to be removed from the process of creating a Legendary. Why? Because I can accept the requirements of the task set before me.

Again, the fact that one can play any game mode to get T6 mats and even sell extra stuff and buy those from TP gets conveniently omitted.

You’re missing the point entirely. The process of acquiring a Legendary may include both “pleasing” and “displeasing” elements. That’s subjective and based on the player. They shouldn’t remove part of the process simply because some players dislike it.

  • Champ bags.
  • Account-wide wallet.
  • Account-wide karma. Karma added to more game modes.
  • Account-wide ascended.
  • Account-wide dyes.
  • Account-wide items.
  • Non-laurel ascended stuff.
  • Nerfed Escape from LA tiers and Assault Knights.
  • Nerfed Dredge fractal.
  • More meaningful level-up rewards.
  • Guidance for new players.
  • PvP reward tracks.
  • Buffed SW rewards.
  • Merchants can access crests and other tokens which are stored in bank.
  • Stacking gathering tool boxes.
  • Exotic rarity aquabreather.
  • Tomes of knowledge and XP writs for alts.
  • Precursor hunt.

Countless examples of things changed from “displeasing” to “more pleasing” based on the feedback from players.

It’s a game. It is supposed to be enjoyable, and there is a fine line between making something “challenging” and creating tedious displeasing “grind”. If the line is in the wrong place, changes should be made. And unlike mount or duel requests which originated from other games, WvW completion is a genuinely GW2 issue that is still being raised by the many non-competitive PvE players to which GW2 caters.

20 level 80s and counting.

WvW completion is hella easy to get if you’re on a T4 server or lower.

If you’re in a decent sized active guild, get your guildies and just karma train the maps for any points that anyone needs. You guys could make it a weekly or monthly event (-cough- GSCH -cough-).

If you’re not in a decent sized guild, join a WvW guild. You have 5 guild slots. You can join a different guild for different facets of the game (dungeon guild, world boss guild, wvw guild, pvp guild and bank guild for all round enjoyment of the game). If you’re in a 100% rep guild, you’re really missing out.

A good solution to this would be to make WvW map completion separate from Tyria’s map completion, and split the two Gifts of Exploration between them. Give WvW map completion it’s own special icon too.

That way, PvE’rs wouldn’t have to play a mode they don’t like, and WvW’rs wouldn’t have to trudge through Tyria for a Gift of Exploration if they don’t like that.

But of course, ArenaNet won’t even bother with that.

Except you need the gift of battle for legendaries which is only sold in.. wait for it…. WvW for badges.

Follow the darkness into the depths, it’s more fun than the light can provide.

might be a little late, but here you go

Guide for WvW map completion

Method 1: (only for active servers)
actively follow the commander around the map as they take things

Method 2: (any server)
transfer to an active server and follow method 1

Method 3: (most popular method for lower tier servers)
Run to objectives on reset night to get exploration quickly (before your server loses things). WvW matchup resets 1 hour and ~5 minutes after the daily reset on Friday night (currently 5:05 PM PST)
When the matchup resets, your server has a claim over all the keeps and towers in their Borderland and the keep and 4 towers for your corner in Eternal Battlegrounds.

When reset occurs go to your BL and run like crazy (bring swiftness!) to the 2 souternmost keeps (Bay and Hills) get all the POIs and vistas there. Then move north from them visiting towers, camps, and the garrison. You should have the 3 keeps and all the towers and camps north of Bay/Hills (dont worry if it takes more than 1 week). If your server still has stuff in EB, then go there and pick up your keep, 4 towers and the 2 camps on your side (will likely need more than one week for this and BL). to get the stuff in the south, you have to wait until your color is NOT the same as the BL (go to BLs that are “not your server name borderlands”)(unless you are really fast and can get to that southernmost tower before the enemy gets it). You will need 4 friends. You can activate the commander NPC (seigerazor/siegecrusher) if he is there. He will help you take the tower closest to your spawn. You can also take the 2 camps nearest to your spawn and get the south skill point/vistas.

Stonemist Castle will probably be your biggest issue if your world never takes it. The best way i can see to do it is to follow an enemy zerg into it (be careful they will see you as an easy target). Stealth is your best friend (if youre a mes or thief just equip your stealths and carefully fun around the perimiter picking up the POIs, otherwise bring a freind who can stealth you). You have to follow your enemy through the inner gate as well in order to get the skill point (this should be done after most of them leave).

Tips:
*Be patient, this is a PvP map and it might take some time to do if your server has 0 presence
*Always avoid enemies when you can. Anyone that sees you will tell their 50 “freinds” in map chat and generally try to engage you
*Stealth, speed boosts, and even invulnerability skills are very helpful
*non-peak times can also be helpful if you are against servers where people actually get some sleep

Good Luck with your exploration

I have a feeling this is going to change with HoT. I’m curious to see where they go with it.

As people mentioned in the Halloween mini and Wintersday tonic threads, when someone advocates video game mechanics which are displeasing to a lot of people instead of satisfying by saying that it’s “optional”, there is a problem.

Do I feel forced grinding SW for the exclusive title? Yes I do. It is repetitive, it is tedious, there is too much RNG, but I need that title because the title perfectly matches my “light” themed character. In an RPG with no gear grind, making my character perfect is end game.

Do I feel forced grinding WvW for completion? Yes I do. I cannot opt out of WvW even if I do not want to do it.

Do I feel forced grinding for ascended? No I don’t, I can do it naturally by playing stuff I want.

Some people like meta events but can’t stand WvW. I dislike many meta events and enjoy WvW. Silverwastes I can take in small doses, but it’s not my favorite content. Thus, I do not feel forced to do WvW for completion. I approach the Silverwastes rewards as something to get over time, so I find that to be OK. I do find Ascended to be needlessly tedious and forced, so I choose not to pursue it even though my preference would be to have BiS.

I’m not condoning the use of “optional” as an excuse. I understand that “need” is not restricted to food, clothing and shelter, and can also mean “a lack of something wanted or deemed necessary.” However, game developers “need” to try to accommodate as many different demographics as possible.

Some groups actually like long-term goals. Some like rewards tied to specific content. Some want every reward to be obtainable via their preferred play style. Thing is, ANet cannot cater to all groups with the same content. The best they can do is try to create a variety of content and a variety of rewards and hope that there is sufficient diversity of content/reward combinations so that everyone gets something to do. The problem, as always, occurs when someone decides I want the reward from that content/reward combination but don’t like the content.

Good Luck with your exploration.

This is good advice, so worth a +1. I’ve completed WvW maps on two characters in the last five weeks while playing on a server rated 23 of 24 in NA.

I will add one bit of advice. Even on my server, a large-enough zerg can form to take enemy keeps and towers. If you can play at server reset, it seems that the biggest zergs form right after reset.

Because they are explorable zones with PoIs, Vistas, and Skill Points. And “100%” and “World Completion” are all-encompassing terms.

A better question is why they don’t require players to explore new zones when they come out as well, but I’m torn on whether that’s a good idea or not.

Not..it would make 100% an insurmountable task to a new player, a few expansions down the line.
(I’m hoping this new magumma map isn’t needed with the new xpac for 100% too..)

I meant new maps added to the core game. HoT exploration should be its own thing, perhaps by upgrading your icon from a yellow star to a blue one if you have both. Or something.

But Southsun, Dry Top, and Silverwastes should be part of world completion for your Gifts of Exploration, absolutely.

Or included in the HoT exploration if they don’t want to add it to the current one.
