[Merged] Ascended Armor Impressions
“Bridge the gap” was referring to having goals you could accomplish in between full Exotic (most of my character have that as they turn 80 now…) and getting a Legendary weapon.
If I have a problem with Ascended tier as a gap-filler, its that they take the many of the same mats as the legendary, meaning building an ascended item pushes back my legendary progress, not fill time as I move forward.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

And what bothers me the most? It says in the preview that these armors were made in the style of famous Luxon and Kurzick armourers. That’s an insult to both factions! They look nothing like those famous sets!
That can’t be true…you and other people who heard this must have misunderstood…Both the Kurzick and Luxon light armor were among my favorite designs. You can’t look at this http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/2/29/Necromancer_Elite_Luxon_armor_f.jpg and think it looks like what we’ll have in a few weeks/months.
However, this one : http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/9451224BG24.png was clearly inspired by this http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/d/d4/Mesmer_Elite_Kurzick_armor_f.jpg, yet we still aren’t allowed to have it.
Heavy armor looks terrible.
And when I say terrible – i mean terrible.
I will get ascended armor because of the stats- but honestly i had ALL my hopes riding with this update – hoping that with the new release of gear a new DECENT set will be out that will look awesome and worth wile to get.
Instead we get this…

These need to be put into this game. It’s been a year already!
Ahahaha light classes, get boned!
We usually do. The bros, anyway. It’s like there’s some rule where men aren’t supposed to have clean, elegant lines in their armor whilst the women do.
Tarnished Coast
Ah the standard Templar, hated the shoulders, but loved everything else.
the point of ascended armor is to kitten me off.
The point of it is to unbalance World vs. World even more, because you don’t even need exotic for doing PvE content, let alone ascended.
Basically it would be the most easy if nobody got ascended, because then nobody would be forced to get it, because it wouldn’t influence WvW if nobody used it.
First wvw was never balanced at all and it was not made to be as such it is a RvR where a world fights another for better or worst.
Second you can get ascended items from running wvw only it may make more time but you can still do it that way.Actually you can’t.
You have to craft your weapon.
What kind of PvP game makes you personally craft your weapon?
It’s amateur hour.
The type that can drop them from the lords you realty do not look things up before you start talking do you and you call me amateur haha.
Guild : OBEY (The Legacy) I call it Obay , TLC (WvW) , UNIV (other)

I like the ascended more when it comes down to design : p
The armor needs a bit of fine tuning i think, or will just look a bit better ingame like most armors do.
But i do like the ascended armor a whole lot more than what you show :P
(edited by Gathslan.1870)
What? You don’t liek the fat-rolls armor?
I’ll be the first to say I don’t like the ascended armor (if I ever get it, I’ll be transmuting it right away)… but TBH if those were the only options, I’d much rather have the blue colored ascended armor than any of the Braham armor examples.
wrapped up in some crazy ritualist hoo-ha from Cantha.
A real grab bag of ‘you can’t hurt me. They’re called Guardians.
my son is four. for halloween, he has made a request to be a knight(just like dear old pa…d’awwww). so we got him a nice costume. look here: http://www.potterybarnkids.com/products/knight-costume/?pkey=challoween-costumes&. sweet right?
so. i pull up the picture of the ascended armor and tell him, ‘hey boyo, this is your knight costume!’
he looks at it and says, ‘no thanks, i’ll be a ninja.’ not even a why. guess he gets his sense of humor from me too.
Smart kid. I wanna be a Ninja too but Anet refuses to let me have my Assassin armor from GW1. It makes my heart cry.
the all look beyond terrible to me, and thats saying a lot considering how awfully horrible most armor in this game looks.
Its kinda funny that they intend people to farm mats for that crap.
I just hope that the next time ANet stop being cheapskates and hire real designers instead of college interns
I hope they look at this thread and change its appearance to more match the other sets, brightness/texture wise.
I LOVE the armors model. Its shaders need Adjusted immediately.

What Anet is saying by this new ascended armour is that you should all look like renaissance court jesters and like it.
What Anet is saying by this new ascended armour is that you should all look like renaissance court jesters and like it.
That’s ridiculous to say when you have the option to transmute a look into a stat in the game.
Most of the people I know that have ascended weapons didn’t keep the look.
I just hope that the next time ANet stop being cheapskates and hire real designers instead of college interns
A college intern would have done something simpler. It would have looked less “epic” (I guess if you want to call it that) but at least it would have probably looked better…but hardly worse.
And the ascended weapons aren’t ugly. There are so many weapon skins, with big showy effects that they feel kind of too simple for ascended weapons.

No, it’s not ridiculous. These are ASCENDED armours and are probably hard to make. A majority of people should not have to feel that the armours are so ugly that their only option is to transmute them at great cost.
girlfriend is going to kill me if i don’t ask
where is that in game? (even if not available, that blows out of the water pretty much every piece of light armour they have released so far)

I love the heavy armor, an d a whole lot more than what you linked. Seems like im in the minority but happy Anet offers armor for me for once (they seem to have armor everyone likes and dislikes, i like this armor but the legendary weapons or armor with shiny/fiery effects is kittening ugly in my eyes, hideous xD)
The ascended armor looks like it was designed by someone who was on acid, in a dark room, listening to amateur house techno music at maximum volume.
this merging was bad. There was one thread for people talking about how ascended armor shouldnt be released and a whole different thread on how it looked…those are not the same thing at all…now its just going to get muddled

Terrible looking sets.
Please look at L2 for better inspiration.
I would sell my firstborn for this armor piece:
http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/9451224BG24.png
once this is implemented, we should all make a huge parade with fireworks and everything… I mean, we will already have the costumes
I think there are some possible color combinations, which let them look not that bad
(edited by SkipOne.8430)
I think there are some possible color combinations, which let them look not that bad
not so sure about the first two but i your last two dye setups are pretty good. They look fine but for ascended they are still lackluster sort of like the ascended weapons…guess anet realized they can design anything and people will still go along.
Edit: your second dye is pretty good as well, but the armor still looks bad.

It’s too good of an armor set that most people’s eye would explode, hence why anet has yet to release it.
50/50 GWAMM x3
I quit how I want
Could some kind soul over at ANet please stop asura toes from clipping through all the boots? It looks terrible. Also, the waist on the light armor appears to be bugged with some of the heavier body types.
I’m normally the type to say things like taste is subjective and there’s no accounting for it, but if you look through these pages, it’s pretty clear that the majority of comments in regard to the armor skins are negative, some are neutral, few are positive and none are glowing.
If the range of opinions about these armor sets is really so far skewed from a normal distribution as it seems to be, would it be fair to say that they are objectively bad?
This forum is a wretched hive of scum and villainy. ~DevilLordLaser
Just got home and tried it on my norn… I still can’t believe how this pass through approvals…
Its plain horrible and doesn’t even fit well.
The heavy has less covered places than uncovered. Its just ridiculous.
Yeah looks are bad but the grind is worse. But who cares about grind now that ascended weapons are out of the bag it doesnt matter……oh well i guess ill go face palm through a million more world events so i can do fractals with bis stats (wheres the logic in that).
The armor is hideous. I would fire the people who designed it today. Seriously, the ascended weapons were ugly enough. This is just a joke.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
I am really concerned if they will continue this trend and only put the good looking armor sets into the cash shop – for doubly obvious reasons.
That would be a perfectly acceptable thing to do. Cosmetic skins in the shop.
There’s a flaw in that stance.
ANet seems to want to revert to horizontal progression rather than vertical once Ascended is all out. We’ve yet to see the proposed skill system, so we have no idea if that will work out. Skins have been part of horizontal progression going back to GW. Failing to provide skins that people can feel they are playing to get (not just farming gold to buy gems) is going to sink that part of horizontal progression.
There needs to be a mix of skins so that some can be obtained through play and some can be bought. It can’t just be unappealing skins and back pieces through play. Well, not if they’re serious about horizontal progression as a major component of endgame.
There are plenty of nice skins, both in-game ane in gem shop. And there will be more.
You can’t complain if the weight is going to be more on the shop. That’s how the game was always supposed to be funded.
Agreed. But horizontal progression, seeking gear skins, was supposed to be how people were kept playing the game in order to be enticed to spend money in that gemshop. A mix, as Indigo mentioned, would be a solid way of driving that interaction between gemshop sales and player retention through horizontal progression.
Horrendous, yet not surprising considering arenanet just want your money (transmution stone profit will soar with these….vile creations)
Want me to spend money arenanet?
Then create something worthwhile with a lot of thought and effort into it and not just toss any old thing together..
Again, Vile designs that make me want to puke and stop playing the game if this is what is being made…..already onto my 3rd week vacation.

I’m not a fan of the looks AT ALL but obviously a lot of time and effort went into them, and time is money. If it was some conspiracy to sell transmutation stones, why would they spend so much time and effort on designing these?
I feel bad for them that the designs were such a misfire since I’m sure they felt otherwise when they bothered to create them, but worse for me that mt GW1 mesmer is still far and away better dressed.
I like them, they look especially good on norns and male humans, I think. Finally some incentive to level my ranger! As long as it’s the last tier of armour, I’m cool with it.
Lovely designs, thank you.
After i saw these new ascended armors, i’m disappointed on anet. One of the best armors in game makes you look like a kitten clown . Now you have to waste 30+ gold on transmutation stone to make it looks normally…
ugh… shame on you arena net there is soo many ideas for good looking armor and you choose clown…
HA haha ha *cough cough wheeze, i think they are just trolling their customers now.
I’ve seen Skyrim mods that made better looking armor than those.
I absolutely adore the medium armor on my Elementalist.
I’m pretty sure Elementalists won’t be wearing medium armor…
But hate the light armor (and I hate the light armor because, as always, Asura only got the male version)
So basically, it’s not going to look good/right for your characters.
That would be pretty much the essence of the complaints.

The issue is more with the lack of a gender split for armor on Asura than anything. I’d probably like the light armor… if my Asura got to use something similar to the human female version, instead of the human male version. This is the primary reason I’ll probably never buy the Phoenix armor from the gem store, either.
That said, the male version of the light armor? It seems like it’s aiming for a very specific, niche theme, while you’d expect a set that takes a long time to make to have a more generic appearance that could be made to work for a large variety of characters.
Light armor looks so awful. Gimme robes, or half robes, or anything else. And those shoulders. Do I ook like I want to be some kind of christmast tree ? ;s.
Who ever is resposible for this design, should go to the corner and cry.
they need to hire some koreans to design the armors
I hope they heard our hate and will change the way appearance of ascended items.
(Obsidian Armors v2, Tormented Weapons v2, where are you?)
“A man chooses; a slave obeys.” | “Want HardMode? Play Ranger!”

By the gods, please no.

I guess I’m in the minority, but I like the light armor on my main char (human female), and I like the looks on the males as well. I do feel for people who plan to get this, but picked the same or similar body type as I did. Proportions went out of the window again.

Anet has great heavy armor designs how you can see in his concept arts. However and I don’t know why, they bring us heavy armors that look medium armor and so horrible, Ascended and Aetherblade heavy armor skins are two examples.
The first one is the GW1 costume, http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Agent_of_Balthazar Balthazar’s Doublet The second is the god Balth himself.
Also mr Kekai who drew these, doesn’t work for ANet anymore.

Agreed. I Really do not like about the idea that all skins that I have so far will be “useless” when this gear with higher stats comes in to game.
Why do ascended items need to have higher stats? Why woun’t it be just additional infusion slot. You could go though process of ascending your existing (exotic) armor (like we did in GW1).
- I don’t want to be locked to one character (tendious / time locked prosess to get items)
- I don’t want to be “left behind” with my exotics (not taken into instances, considered less useful on wvw, etc)
My own ramble:
I am feeling very same that I felt when first ascended items came into game. My reduced playing time and more frequent content updates don’t help either. I mean, I love that I always have something to do when I log-in. But sometimes it just feels too much for the time I have.
I am member of nice guild, I got to do Twilight Assault dungeon with them at the moment I logged in(literally said “hi, have everyone already done the new instance?” and got invite to party that was forming). It took 2h and after that I idled a bit in LA with guild, changed my necromancers hair and that was all I had time to do. I still haven’t even looked ascended weapons and I see more and more people with those.
I was trying to get trough SAB (yay for surprise bauble-gate via “you must get torch”) while Tequalt changes came. So all my time went into SAB jumping and boss week daily event hunting. Maybe with this patch I could do some “normal” gaming… you know… something that I could do just for fun and not “I must do this now, before it is gone”.

My question would be to the grinders who wanted these ascended weapons: " if they just made legendary armor would you have been satisfied?"
Ascended armour should be invisible to human eye because after you ascend you have no need for clothes.
Sure, you can make it look half-way decent on a human female. Now do that for a male charr.
