Remember, remember, 15th of November

This. Unfortunately, Arenanet is just following what the community asks for. It’s not the company’s problem, trying to please the customers, the problem is that the customers are… well, don’t get me started.
The real problem is a minor section of the community cried and now another section of the community is starting to find out about it but only after Anet sided with the prior.
Yes and if you say anything that even targets that said group in anyway anet will delete your post and give you warning so becareful what you say mods are watching this thread like crazy! things like QQers/Whiners may not be ok… someone may QQ or Whine about it! :-)
So true…. Its just a shame they couldn’t wait for the votes to get tallied in a game that houses millions when a mere handful sheds a tear.
Oh, let’s be honest there. Both groups are a tiny minority. Majority of players neither have a cultural set, nor bought (or intended to buy) Flamekissed version. If we’re going to be pedantic, most likely the majority of gw2 players don’t even play the game anymore (i’d be surprised if there’s more than a million of active accounts at the moment, and even there i’m being generous).
So, the case already concerns only “a minor section of the community”. And both sides are equally good at crying. Also, voting would be useless. I honestly doubt that Anet has resources to introduce 14 more cultural reskins (20, if we consider the fact that female versions of charr and asura armor sets would need to be made from scratch. Even more when counting all those armor that would need to be redone for charr). Since they couldn’t introduce all cultural armor reskins to the gem shop, the only(1) sensible option was to remove the one already available.
While i’d really like them making alll culturals widely available, i just don’t see it happening, considering that they already have big problems in generating content.
(1) Well, they could also remove racial restrictions on culturals, but it would still require them to do charr versions of other armor, non-charr versions of charr armor, and female versions of charr/asura. That’s still a lot of work.
Not only people with the T3 set were upset. It was also a lot of people who own a cultural set, no matter the race or set. How does that sound like a minority to you?
I’d like you to look at the part of my post where i said that “Majority of players neither have a cultural set, nor bought (or intended to buy) Flamekissed version”. Nowhere there have i specified i was talking about human t3 light only.
Yes, people with cultural sets (any) are a tiny minority in this game. Granted, likely a bigger minority than those that have bought Flamekissed.
Notice also that i have not said anything about whether any of those minorities was right or wrong – i just pointed out that calling out Anet that they acted because “a minor section of the community cried” is hypocritical when used by someone representing another “minor section of the community”.
Ok lets say they change looks for those who bought it. If I dont like it, I want my armor back in same state as it was on the day I applied your skin.
That is an extremely reasonable demand.

Thank you so much. Im just wondering, will all 3 armor tiers getting an art rework? or just light flamekissed? Thanks again for taking the time to reply to the community.
only the t3. if you now want the other art work changed, find around 10 people, open 140 topics about that and you might get your wish at the end of the day.
Although the Flamekissed Armor uses the same mesh as the Tier 3 Human Cultural Armor, it was not our intention to create an armor skin that so closely matched the existing Tier 3 Human Cultural armor set. The intention was to use the mesh as a basis for creating an armor set that stands apart and is distinct in appearance. However, after reading your feedback, we agree that the Flamekissed armor is not visually distinct enough from Human Cultural Tier 3 armor.
This is entry level graphic design and 3D modeling. The meshs are 100% identical and haven’t been altered in any way. The texture itself has been altered, yet it wasn’t rendered correctly to the mesh itself, that led to the texture being blurry compared to the original one. So it’s one thing to say, well we screwed up and I apologize but it gets absolute ridiculous when you try making us believe that nobody noticed and only after the complaints came in you realized that.
Edit: I proudly take my upcoming infraction for that.
(edited by slurpey.6014)
While the other ones are ugly as kitten, together, it could look really cool with just some pieces taken from them and then built into your own set with other different pieces.
But even so, you still need to pay for a whole set.
1) By simple analogy, a representative part of the community that during the election for new President/government etc. is the one that actively takes part in the election, i.e. gives a vote. Your argument collapses since, if the one wants to voice their opinion with regards to some “actions”, he needs to act. Insufficient action would be that of passive acceptance, i.e. he bought the skin. The official website/forum is the place that is meant by the producers of the game to be the place where all the information regarding the game is published. Being in the game only does not guarantee you will learn everything concerning the game. A simple latin proverb describes the reasoning: ignorantia legis neminem excusat. It means: if you enter a game and are unaware of what happens within the body that describes the regulations of the game ( the website/forum where all the official updates are published, e.g. regarding the new armor , and you fail to comply therewith, you are breaking the law/rules.
Buying the skin is not insufficient action. Pulling out your credit card, going to the gem store interface, yada yada is far from passive. It is a more concrete means of demonstrating an opinion of a product than someone else saying, “I don’t like it,” or, “I already quit the game months ago but I would quit again over this !”
The election analogy does not work for the simple fact that buying a product is a “vote,” in a business relationship and financially supporting an action is taking at least as much action as saying that you don’t like the action. If I spend a million dollars to support an initiative in my state, but do not vote, and you vote against the initiative, whose action is more likely to further their position ? A simple American proverb covers the situation fairly well: Money talks, B.S. walks.
For what it is worth the official forum/website, for GW2, is NOT the (only) place that is meant by the producers of the game to be the place where all the information regarding the game is published. The developers frequently provide information about the game elsewhere instead of here.
2) Your mistake here flows from the first mistake that you made above, i.e. understanding the idea of active participation and following the official updates by the game producers. Another mistake is to deny the credibility of the only evidence we could use here. The evidence as given by the active participants of the community ( as explained above ) is the evidence one ought to not dub as “biased”. People who actually bother to voice their opinions on the official forums, and are heard, cannot be described as lacking credibility. Yes, they present their own opinions which it is difficult to measure ( the point you touch upon ), nevertheless, since they have been answered and admitted their relevance by the authorities ( ANet ), it is even more difficult to dub them irrelevant..
I do not describe them as lacking credibility. I fully credit that these responses indicate that there are at least a few dozen people who disliked the the addition of T3 Human cultural armor to the gem shop (I am one of the people who disliked it for that matter). Nor do I dub them irrelevant. I do however indicate that we do not have sufficient data to determine whether or not the response was almost unanimous or represented a majority. To use your election analogy, it would be like counting one box of votes in a Democrat dominated district of a state and deciding that it represented the almost unanimous majority view without ever touching the other boxes.
3) Look at 2) above. One point to be made here only. It is not only the people with “the gripe”. It is the people who want to take part in the game creation, bug-fixing, posting their ideas thereof etc. etc. Thus, it is wrong to assume that majority of them is biased towards the negative.
I did not claim that it was only people with a gripe.
I am sure that there are plenty of people attempting to take part in game creation, bug fixing, etc. Count the posts and I think that you will find more complaining. In general people who are happy with a game spend the time they have available for that game actually playing it.
Creating an ultra rare armor set only available to the few thousand who bought it before being pulled from the TP does not seem the most fair or solve the issue of human cultural being made available to other races for 1/3 the price.
ANet goofed. Flamekissed is getting nerf. It happens.
Ok lets say they change looks for those who bought it. If I dont like it, I want my armor back in same state as it was on the day I applied your skin. I have even transmuted some norn cultural and other (already transmuted) armors. We will end up losing 50+ gold and some skins for supporting this game and purchasing in shop.
Wanting your armor back just the way it was is a reasonable demand and I support you. Anet should not only refund 800 gems if you are unsatisfied with the new design, but also give you back the skins that you had on your armor before purchasing flamekissed.
You couldnt hear other side because they were SATISFIED with shop for once. Just wait, more people will start complaining once they found out you’re changing skin they bought.
Only good solution is not to remodel skin for those who bought it (they will get somewhat unique skin for supporting game shop), change it for future purchases.
Everything else will screw this up even more. Many of us have applied this skin over other cultural and armor that was already transmuted before that and if you change it for everyone people will not trust you with future shop items.

Look a few posts above and you will see that this suggestion has already been made and that it has problems of it’s own. The best solution is for Anet to work hard in order to restore the armor of unsatisfied customers to it’s former state.
The problem wasn’t that it was a reskin. People can buy or not buy a reskin as they like. The problem is it was a rare and valuable skin that only humans could get and people buy them for that reason.
If Anet made legendary skins and put them in the trading post, imagine how kitten ed owners of legendaries weapons would be.
It devalues the time and effort people put into working for a reward. The fact that it was a reskin wasn’t what people were complaining about.
The fact that it was a reskin wasn’t what people were complaining about.
Well, there were more than a few complaints about it being a reskin too.
But I agree with the rest of what you said.

No, the best solution is to provide the people who bought the Flamekissed armor with a skin of comparable desirability, quality and utility that looks different from human T3.
The goal needs to be that people are as happy with the character the armor is on after it is changed as they are with it now, not that they just have the same amount of stuff they had before buying it.
People with T3 had the same amount of stuff as before and weren’t happy. ArenaNet took Flamekissed armor away from other people to make the people with T3 happy. Now they should be focused on doing whatever it takes to make the people the armor was taken away from happy.
I just dont see how people say, that its 1/3 of the price. 800 gems is about 60 gold, that means T3 is 180g.
I skinned my sentinels armor because i really liked this skin, so does that mean everyone with T3 should pay the same as i had to pay for my sentinels set, cause thats what i see mostly. People being mad because they paid more then the people that bought this skin. Last thing i saw Sentinels was about 99g up to 180g a piece x 6 = at least 600 gold, i dont think T3 is that expensive.
People that bought the skin before it being pulled should have a CHOICE. If you wanna keep it, keep it. If you don’t then you get the new skin. It would save a lot of the problems created due to this. Anet wouldnt have to give refunds or check what stats/equipment people skinned. They would have 1 or the other.
There will always be people that nag about something.
@MisterEction —→ i doubt that will happen cause to take an example the other 2 sets look horrible.

don’t worry, it will have cawl flamez and lazerbeens anyway for all the cawl kids. Not like there is already a flood of demon players around LA… flamez is the new black!
I play nothing but human so I may fail to see some sort of super shiny thing about other races using it… But was that all? A cheaper t3 with an effect at 80g vs 120 yeah kinda makes you wonder…
But does it all matter? The end game of the game is about ascetics. Cultural armor, and faction armor that no one really invested into other than personal story seems pointless to warrant exclusivity.
Even if we are going to justify exclusivity, wouldn’t the default skins still be cultural locked anyways?
Re-skins are kind of lazy but I thought it was actually done well for once… Now it’s gone and we’re prob gonna get something that looks even worse… Awesome.
(Tip for a-net: If your going to re-skin items and sell them as a package don’t make them all from the same set.)
Did I miss something? This could have been a future opportunity, sure t3 human light was used, but maybe next time we’d get norn t3 with blue effects. This isn’t a bad thing, early release people exploited a bug to get other race armors. People clearly want it, and those against it, well why? There is no real prestige to it. There is no real entitlement to it other than what you chose at character creation.
If these were like WoW Factions or the GW1 factions (I didn’t play but I heard it was something that took effort) then this would make more sense to me.

I agree that the new armor should be very good so as to satisfy the people who purchased it but, inevitably, not all of them will be satisfied. People have different tastes you know. This means that Anet should be ready to do everything in their power to restore the gems and the armor of any possible unsatisfied customers.
Why did you make this thread if you have another thread with 1000+ posts about hows and whys on the same topic?

People where more mad about the fact that every race had access to human cultural rather than about the price. The price was a factor but not the primary one.
Why did you make this thread if you have 1000+ posts in other thread about hows and whys on the same topic?
because people that complaint about the T3 armor made 140 topics as well. So OP has the right to open a new topic on that too.

They are merging threads, if you haven’t noticed. And he’s asking why and what is the problem with armor while he has 1000+ posts about exactly the same thing in other thread. Read them and you’ll know what is the problem with it.
more lava than a volcano.., not wowish enough, it needed more flamez.

Which is understandable. I don’t get how the OP can’t even answer himself this question.
@MisterEction —-> i doubt that will happen cause to take an example the other 2 sets look horrible.
It will be a miracle if it does, but as of now, from all that has come out, my options are sticking with whatever skin they come up with or getting back 800 gems and being stuck with a 40 gold lost, having wasted one day off getting things together and having had another day off ruined by having something taken from me against my will, which is an incredibly awful feeling.
So, I’m going to push for them to do that skin right so that in the end I have a character I’m as happy with my character as I was before and I’ve had a day off ruined by having been put in a position to expect something was going to be taken from me against my will, which is an incredibly awful feeling.

Exactly, lol. You don’t need forums to see what’s the problem with the armor.
Wait, what? I bought t3 cultural on my human necro and didn’t like the plain-ness of the skin so I never wore it. Then when I saw this in the gemstore I bought it and transmuted it to new exotic skins i crafted cuz it looks so awesome and necro-ish. I didn’t care if other races got the t3 skin I paid over 100g for. I quite liked this new version and didn’t mind other races enjoying it’s cool look either. In addition to my gems back (i bought this with money btw) I sure hope I get the armor i transmuted it over to back and unbound so i can sell em=/ This blows=(
The uproar is about nonhumans being able to keep the flame skin. There are many of us with human characters that applied the new flame skin to our existing human T3 armor. With the new change not only will we be losing out on the skin we purchased with gems, but we will also lose the T3 armor skin that we purchased with gold.
The solution is simple, allow human characters that have already applied the new flame skin to keep that skin.
Please consider this.
Thanks in advance.
I bought this game weeks before release, and since then i kept spending money on it, cause it’s the best game i have ever played in my life (and i play since i was 6 years old, 30 now). I also subscribed a credit card in order to buy gems, to get me nice skins and useful stuff, as well to support the makers of this wonder. I spent 80 gold to buy the t3 pieces i wanted for my ele, and then thata beauty came out. I mean… it’s perfect. I bought without thinking twice, and even reskinned on cultural, ‘cause it was obviously the only thing to do. And now you tell me i lost everything? I bought Final Rest with golds to match my Tequatl’s wing on the best looking character i HAD, and now you tell me i made this for nothing?
This isn’t fair. And by reading this thread i see that there is clearly a division among 2 sides. So in either way you will lose customers Anet. Try thinking of something in the middle. Some good ideas popped up. As for me i would be satisfied if i could get back 800 gems AND the T3 pieces i already owned.
I just hope you can come to terms with your conscience as well. Something crystal clear is that I will never buy anything anymore on the BLTC, even if the new armor will look better (imho is impossible), because I’m afraid of what could happen. I fell in love and you are taking away that love.
Hope this message will be read as well as all the others in my same situation.
Up for the flamekissed light armor

Ok, make sure that the skin comes out awesome!! In my opinion making a new and unique skin would be the way to go, maybe something from GW1. If the new armor looks good I may even consider buying it.

Just make it an upgrade of the t3 via the mystic forge and add more upgrades so other races are not left out.
I just went on to see the news for myself and they did it, I’m happy they listened. Armors like that(cultural and any exclusive mainly) shouldn’t be implented in the gem store. They could make it cost a little more and add it as an exotic cultural to the vendor.
And on your problem, well if they don’t remove it, it would’ve hurt the game on the long run, but I agree, I wouldn’t have removed the skin from those who already bought and applied and I would reimplement it in some way. It’s a good skin, would be a waste to throw out.
If you take away from one, take it away from all.
Reskins are a staple of most MMOs. Unfortunately, this time, ANet picked some relatively fugly ones (other than the T3) to change.
I am hoping they change all of them, but if they don’t, it’s no big deal. I just don’t like these and to prove it, I won’t buy them.
Why should humans only retain the right to keep the skin when in fact they are the ones who complained about it’s existence in the first place? Hypocrite much.

because now they realize what kind of impact that has when it comes to the looks of their human characters. Sometimes people should make up their mind…

They shouldn’t, unless Anet make enhanced t3 skins for all races that are more difficult to obtain than normal t3 and are still race exclusive.

It’s either that, or all cultural armor should be available to everyone. Anet is probably not going to do the latter.
On a completely different note, I find it quite ironic that everyone who liked flamekissed keeps saying things like “anet giving in to the whiners” while they are in fact whining themselves.

First people go up in arms about that skin and now they are unhappy when something is done about it.
Human players were upset that their cultural armor got devalued, and now you want to keep the skin that you fought to get taken off of sale. I don’t see WvW guys up in arms about the medium skin (or the fact that badges of honor are handed out to anyone through achievements), in truth you got what you wanted now live with it.
Regarding OP’s situation, why would you overwrite the original skin to begin with. The sensible course of action would have been to either get a new armor set (exotics are cheap) or use transmutation splitters to save the original cultural skin. You should have been farsighted enough that this might cause an issue with the community… I am not saying you should have been able to know what ANet was going to do about it, but you should have known that there is a chance for some action to be taken.
I am fine with the upgrade idea presented by Ganthar I would very much like to see more cultural armor options. But as someone who plays non-humans I call foul, why should humans get something extra first… because of an issue they themselves created? For ANet, do it by all means allow variants of cultural armor but not before you have something for everyone.
some players complained….they go what they wanted at expenses of Others…
Others that now are harmed are just showing they exist….
Its way better than those posts thanking anet of a onesided solution.

Humans should not get it first, it should be delayed until all the sets are designed.
Wow! People are complaining that we complained! That is… kind of puzzling….
You people that bought this set are hurt because you spent money and time in it. I am ok with that.
I was hurt because I spent money and time in the game and this set was a precedent to little by little have all the ingame skins revamped and put for sale killing all incentive to ever play anything (HCT3 you at least needed a lvl80 human and this means at least some ‘playing’).
New exclusive armoes are fine, but don’t kill all the incentives to play the game please.
Now, as I already said, I don’t see any problem with people keeping this set as long as Anet does never ever start anything like this again.
I don’t want to be ‘exclusive’… I want to have some goals in the game. Leave the ‘in game’ armors as is please. T3 was for me one of the incentives that made me level my human mesmer and try to get the gold for it.
Stop this flood. Leave the skin to those that bought it as a reminder. To apraise the rest, give humans the option to upgrade their t3 to this too maybe (I don’t want it myself though! Don’t force this skin on t3 humans! My mesmer theme is white/blue and gold. Don’t want flames!)

And I like how these same people are acting as if there were only 10 of those “whiners” while it was one of the biggest outrages on this forum and also over 1000 (probably over 2000 combining all threads) upvotes on GW2 reddit all against the armor being added in the store. This is what the community wanted not just a couple of whiners. The whiners are coming out now, trying to make it feel like it wasn’t a big deal.

Don’t want flames!)
I may not agree with you, but I thank you for being reasonable in your opposition. Kudos.
The truth is the moment ANet chose to do something about the flamekissed armor, because of all the noise about it, they created a situation where no matter what they did someone would be unhappy. Essentially where we are now is people buying a leather jacket then having it recalled and replaced with a sweater (or something else that is not the leather jacket).
All of this sounds to me like they were testing the waters to see if changes like this one would be worth it. Now they’ve lost the faith both of people who didn’t buy it and people who did. Basically kitten ed off both sides.
If you are one of those that bought it, tough luck. You have no right to be upset because this skin was never supposed to be there in the first time.
I rolled a human for many reasons including t3 armor etc, people who are calling people who dislike the human cult armor being sold at the cash shop and calling them “kittenes” are morons. The set costs less than half of actual armor. That’s crap, how would you like it if something you paid hard time or money for, had to pick a certain race to get it and suddenly it’s for everyone?
It’s not fair to anyone who rolled a human for the armor because they cannot race change. So stop calling people who complain selfish, you kittenes are the ones being selfish because it’s all benefits for you.
Why should humans only retain the right to keep the skin when in fact they are the ones who complained about it’s existence in the first place? Hypocrite much.
It’s either that, or all cultural armor should be available to everyone. Anet is probably not going to do the latter.
On a completely different note, I find it quite ironic that everyone who liked flamekissed keeps saying things like “anet giving in to the whiners” while they are in fact whining themselves.
It was a huge deal to those who did get the skin, or those who wanted to. Even if we’re in the minority this time, we’ve as much right to voice our complaints about it being removed as you have to support it’s removal.
Just make it an upgrade of the t3 via the mystic forge and add more upgrades so other races are not left out.
an upgrade? since when putting some flashes is considered an upgrade?
If there is ever going to be an upgrade for my culturals I’d hate to see some lazy glow added… Instead I’d like to see more detailed armors, using more fabrics, more layers, more “realistic” details, not some glow paint here and there like any junior designer can do. Any free to play korean game has that… but detailed armors? you won’t find that in many games

Fanbois and trolls say this all the time that the forums and reddit etc are the minority yet here Anet changed their minds.. so guess the minority is bigger than they thought.

Why? Cultural armor is for that race, once you pick your race/class there is no going back. So why should you get to keep an armor for a race you don’t even have to roll to use while that race gets nothing in return? How is that fair?

They have the right to complain as much as they want. They do not, however, have the right to call us whiners.
