How is it going guys! I was wondering if we can convince Anet into doing another Free Server Transfer event. This came to my attention as I started to replay Guild Wars 2 again and the smaller servers were being demolished due to very small population servers. So I thought I would make this to see if we can make smaller servers able to move into more populated servers to get a taste of true WvW and EvP.
Cheers, AlpHa.

merging servers is the better option in my opinion

Meh, I’m not interested going into a blob server. I chose to transfer to Vabbi, because it had low population and close to no zergs above 30.

Zackie, that is actually a great Idea, merging servers would be a great way to mix things up and allow lower pop servers to have a chance to fight up through the tiers

Server Merger’s generally only happen in subscription-based games or games that do not have a viable method of transferring characters between servers voluntarily. This is because Server Merger’s are a form of population control. They are meant as a way to increase the population on a moderately or highly populated server, while allowing the company to close-down an under-populated server. This is especially important in games where people are paying subscription fee’s and do not wish to be stuck paying to play on a server where they can’t actually get anything done because no one else is ever on to do anything with them.

This is largely negated on Guild Wars 2 because of several reasons. First and foremost is that PvE is a largely soloable affair. The dungeons that exist in PvE which kind of do require a group, can be joined via group finder, which does allow groups to be formed across multiple servers.

The second way is that you can actually, for a nominal fee, change the server that your characters happen to be on permanently, if you find yourself on an underpopulated server. This is the more realistic reason for why Guild Wars 2 will never have Server Mergers. Because it doesn’t really need them to function.

Even the ‘high population’ servers are completely dead now. All the current servers need to be merged in 4 or 5.

They are not high according to their active players but according to the accounts they have, which is bad because we`ll never know if many players indeed left and new ones came

Complete fabrication, there are no dead servers.

Merger servers isn’t a particularly elegant solution. I’d rather say they need to implement an underflow server, merging low pop server doesn’t solve the problem.

I remember the days when people were claiming the game was dead, pre-culling.

Then boom.

Merging would be a good idea at this point. Most of the population is concentrated in the top 9 servers, with the rest being mostly ghost towns in PvE and bad coverage in WvW.

Really, they could probably merge them into 6 or 9 servers and the game world would be much better for it imo.

That would be great! Would make more aspects of the game in lower pop servers much better!

I enjoy my Tier 8 or 9 or whatever the bottom tier is server. I would not want to be ‘merged’ into other servers. We don’t seem to have a problem in WvW, as I assume we are against other Tier 8 or 9 (low population) servers. I would not want to constantly be in a queue or overflows. I see people out in the world, albeit not many in certain zones, wherever I go. Some people would rather be in the smaller fish pool, I guess. Lol.

I have no idea what my server pop is but it is certainly not a “top” server and yet I see people everywhere I go- go figure.
I certainly don’t want to be merged- imagine every map like Queens?
where will I go for a bit of peace and some small random encounters?

Free server transfers will make everything worse.

Most servers are empty because players on those servers are guesting on another server because their server seems empty (making it a never ending loop).

And WvW is a terrible way to judge a server population because a lot of players stop playing when their world has to fight to win and only show their head when everything’s going perfectly.

How about instead of affecting several lower population servers with a merger, just take the highest population server and spread it’s population out over two or three of the lower population servers.

The whole issue around a realm or server based distribution of players was simply a response to then current technical limitations. The problem is always that some servers end up populated while others end up empty. Sure, servers gave some distinctions around server culture, but basically they are either populated or empty. GW2 has guesting to address this as a temporary fix and other games have tried merging servers, instanced zones, and “connected” servers to address this problem, but what we are really moving to is a single virtual server which current technology allows. It would be great if Anet made a decision about how to get there and put it on a roadmap.

lol.. would be good to merge some servers since in WvW is a blob stack fight.

Why anet doesnt admit their design mistakes, game turned into a ugly model and keeps worse, now next WvW map is a overflow map, just redesign the whole kitten.

really what is needed are underflow maps. you should be able to choose underflow, or server map. This way servers don’t really matter and every zone can seem alive if you want it to.
