Miniatures Have Been Hidden...

ahah well…epic move Anet….what i would do ( i dont have any kind of mini) is asking a refund to anet for all the mini in game since they are useless now…well… they always been useless nothings you cant live without xD…
Not inviting a single person again to play this game.

Pro-scammers.
The checkbox for my mini always unchecks itself.
Wow, you actually intended for this to happen and you continue to sell minis that people will not be able to see? Seems an odd intention.
Oh well, it’s something they’ll be working on in the future, so hang in there and we can look forward to reading about “exciting” changes coming to the mini system in a year or so, “Players will now be able to see their own minis at all times”.
Such excitement! I can hardly wait!
Let us look at this another way…
By letting us have our minis out whenever we want, Anet can tweak the system more as now they have a better way to test this system.(this system is probably best tested live then on a test server)
In short, we are helping Anet test this system, so in the end we will be able to see our minis all the time until we get sick of them.

it works 100% not as intended
in citys like DR or LA near bank, with many players and minis around me (primetime), minis are shown and all is fine
at maps like queensdale, kessex, caledon (and so on) in the middle of nowhere with NO players around me at a time where 99% of the EU player sleep (at 3:00 AM), minis are autohide
this is intended? I don’t think so.

Not good enough.
Obviously, with the slot being there, it’ll be used by the players. Why develop such a feature in the first place when the additional load caused by the minipets cannot be handled?
Minipets have effectively been rendered useless for me in a large majority of the content as I simply cannot see them anymore. This is a drastic change which – in case of the gemstore minis – limits the items I’ve purchased and which have not been advertised as having such limitations at that time.
As far as I’m aware, not even the minis currently being sold in the gemstore refer to such limitations – which I’d say is close to (if not) false advertising. Pay for something you’ll have to search an empty corner/instance for to even see it… no thanks!
With that said, either provide more information than “tweaking it in the future” or offer us a refund. The current situation is unacceptable.
I’ve only had my mini vanish during boss events. Came back when player numbers around me dropped.
It’s because now it’s easy for everyone to have a mini out. Drop one in the mini slot, check off the check box and poof, mini’s out. Before this you had to remember to pop out your mini when you change maps.

Hey everyone,

I was in Plains of Ashford. I couldn’t see any players around me, at all. Tried to display my mini…and got told the map was too full.
I moved to Wayfarer where the Maw event was active. I stood with the zerg and all of a sudden my minipet popped out. Almost everyone seemed to have one. Might I just say the same scenario happens with Tequatl, and an even bigger zerg, for me at least.
So, if this is indeed “working as intended”, ArenaNet have somewhat dropped the ball again. Not that you can see the ball, there are too many people here. Notwithstanding this, why doesn’t your “working as intended” system not take into account the number of players who are actually near you, rather than how busy the map is? I can completely understand minis being hidden when I’m with the zerg…but this seems to work the complete opposite to how anyone would expect.
Just when you thought they couldn’t make minis any more useless they come up with this. Utterly ridiculous. Also, I’m still waiting for them to get a speed boost. What’s the point of having them when they’re off screen 98% of the time when you’re moving.
I love how Anet keep designing and charging gems for new minis when the fundamental implementation of them is still rubbish after 2 years.

Exactly my experience too. But I knew I shouldn’t have felt too happy when my Mini Teq appeared – I jinxed it for everyone. :/

probably because it is the easiest solution for them. The variable X (X = number of players in the area) is already calculated and used for other functions …. instead introduce a check around the character requires many more controls = much more load.
Well i want to atleast see my mini.. hide more players with culling if you need to but show us our minis.. Also why do i get the mini until most of the server is ready for teq but if i go to for example fireheart rise, which should have way less players than a server atempting tequatl, its instatly hidden? o.o
…How am i supposed to complete my mini collections if I dont know which ones are missing from the bank interface ???
One year & 90+ pages of outcry later : NOTHING
In a way, it’d be nice if in PvE, we’d have a culling option to load NPCs first, then we can think about the allies, although PvE content is standstill easy too…
Of course, loading party members should be priority too, no matter the distance, any other player, is just a stranger in the zerg…
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.
iam solo player so i hate all this “we force you to play with others” anet is doing right now i dont care about player population unless i need others for tequa or other world bosses and i want to see what ive paid for anytime i want so why is my mini never around when i want to seer him dance or make silly things they are supposed to do? honestly i love this game but please dont force us to do anything at least give us an option to get out of full server or add chanels
This stinks. I really, really wish I hadn’t added my panda mini to the wardrobe now. I haven’t got all that many minis but the panda is impossible to replace as an item.
I’m fine with culling other people’s minis as and when the other culling for armor, etc. kicks in, but we should always be able to see our own, the same way we can see our own armor, weapons and hairstyles. Please reconsider this change!

Hey everyone,

WORKING AS INTENDED! Stephane Lo Presti you profit from my purchases from the gem store and you dare sell minis in gem store only to hide them away from me with some‘’not kitten’’update WTF !! Are you serious and you dare say this is your intention.
If people don’t care about this game nobody will be complaining here very soon that will be the case.
Well, I had an experience this morning at Maw that made me decide to at least ‘try’ to put a calm, rational hat on and see if I can’t think about it in terms of how they implemented it, what they were trying to achieve, and see if there’s a ‘meet half way’ point.
At Maw today, there were a lot of people around before it started, and I could see my pet! I start at the big town to the SW and run out to the pole, skipping the grawl pre, and my first ‘event’ is breaking the pole, then I sit there and skip the vets/portals and wait for the big show.
1. I saw my pet (and others, and not terribly close to me) running from town all the way out there.
2. I saw my pet (and others) while breaking the pole, through the vet/portal event, and it wasn’t until shortly after we could start attacking the main man, that the message popped up and my pets and everyone else’s vanished.
3. After the fight was over, still no pets, and then I started running away ‘back’ to town, leaving that big group of people behind, and my pet never came back. Never came back all the way back to town and at town while I was selling and getting ready to log out and login the 2nd character I use at FE.
I logged my second character in at FE, and ported to the waypoint at the north end of the zone closest to FE. I had to turn my mini pet on (buried by itself in a screen I never use, it’s much harder to fire up your pets now, I thought the idea was they should always be on, if we choose?) As soon as I did, I got the message, and it vanished, well away from everyone else. It seemed like it was far more sensitive than at Maw.
So, assuming the system is here to stay, and I won’t get my way and have mini-pets treated ‘exactly’ like equals in the culling rules, and they will be demoted earlier, here are some thoughts.
1. I can’t imagine there would be much argument on this, you should always see your own pet.
2. Assuming (1) is done, do we really need the system message?
3. The experience at Maw was perfect. When it decided to drop them out was pretty ‘late’, it waited a long time. I can’t explain why just showing up in a zone to do FE would shut it off. Seems like that experience needs to be normalized, and be much more forgiving, like the experience I had at Maw this morning (and there seemed like there was a lot of people there).
4. There is nothing to then ‘turn them back on’ as you move away from congested areas. It seems like it’s being applied across an entire zone rather than using proximity checks, like the other culling rules? As I ran away and left the crowd at maw, my pet should have become visible to me on the way back to town. And, assuming (1) is implemented, let’s say I was running back with a friend or a stranger, while I’d always be seeing my pet, as we left the crowd, ‘their’ pet should have re-appeared to me (if they had one).
5. If the check is supposed to be to keep the pets always out, even across zones, it’s not obeying it. I had to turn mine on when I went to the FE zone, after just having it on earlier. Or, I did walk into a personal instance, maybe that shut it off?
6. Bonus: Assuming (1), it would be a nice benefit if by extension, you ‘always’ see any minis of ‘any people in your party’, if that would be possible.
So those are my rational thoughts on it, for whatever it’s worth.
(edited by notebene.3190)
I like the idea of minis being a part of the wardrobe. I also understand that allows everyone to keep their pet out can cause stress and game play is way more important than minis.
My issue is that you guys should have let us know that this would be the reprocussion of always enabling minis and asked what we wanted more as a community.
You also shouldn’t have rolled it out until you had a more localized option for the player. What if we could see our own minis, or only a certain amount of minis in an area? I mean you have sliders for everything else…. this should have been one of them.
ARE THE SAME PEOPLE THAT CREATED MY FAVORITE MMO THE SAME PEOPLE STILL WORKING ON THE GAME, BECAUSE YOU GUYS HAVE LOST YOUR MIND!
So wait. They give us an awesome new minipet system, by which you can basically turn on any mini you want at any times, only so you can see them in main cities and dungeons?
Anet, I can’t even see my kitten mini pets in STARTER zones. What’s the point of mini pets now if I can’t see them, and they dissapear quickly?
No, this doesn’t need “tweaking”, you need to remove this stupid system. I’m sorry but you are you introducing such obviously contradictory changes, and not even addressing them before hand? Got us all hyped up for the new mini pet system with the blog post, update rolls out – oh look! Can’t even see my own kitten mini pets anymore!
Tell me why should I buy a mini pet from your gem store if I can’t see it? It feels like a scam. Enough with these stupid inconvenient changes please.

Oh please. I know some friends who spent over 1000g on mini pets to get them and now they can’t even see them. I never saw them more kittened then that. They have every right to kitten about it.
And considering some minis cost almost like a precursor, and all the gem store ones, yea, it’s kinda a big deal. Kinda like buying a high-end weapon skin and not being able to see it because of “rising player population”. You simply don’t care about minis, but that doesn’t give you the right to de-value other people’s concerns, because it’s in different taste then yours.
And hiding an item you bought with your money should NOT be working as intended. Don’t tell me you know much about how this game’s performance works, because it’s highly un-optimized and it’s over-using systems in your computer most games don’t. I’m talking about CPU, the main processor, and it’s not using enough of GPU, the graphics processor to its fullest. I can play other games, more new, and much more graphically demanding then GW2 and my computer won’t suffer one bit. And I’m playing on a high-end system.
Mini pets should not have any kind of affect on performance whatsoever. They should be a minor nuisance to the system.
If they wan’t to increase/fix the performance they should be fixing it in other ways.

While I absolutely love minis, I’ve also been in wvw a bit. I adore my fox kit mini, and in wvw whenever it disappears, I know I need to be alert.
When fixing the disappearing minis, would it be possible to have an option of keeping the old settings in wvw? It is actually fairly great for determining potential trouble nearby.
Yesterday I was gathering materials in wvw while trying to grab a camp here and there. While walking from a camp, my mini disappeared, and at the nearest tower an opponent group was attacking. If it had not been for the mini, I wouldn’t have gone close enough to the tower to even see them.
I realize it may provide a slightly unfair advantage, but even the cheapest mini will do this, so anyone can make use of this. It does make it a lot easier to break away from the wvw zerg and roam a bit without getting trampled while distracted by something else.
Hey everyone,
While this is currently working as intended, it’s definitely something that we’ll be working on and tweaking in the future. We want you to be able to enjoy your minis so hang in there!
With all due respect I don’t think it is working as intended.
I understand that there does need to be a system in place to cull minis in high population maps, but the problem at the moment is that the culling seems to apply to all explorable maps, regardless of population.
If it’s really intended that minis will only be displayed in cities, WvW, instances and the Heart of the Mists and not at all in explorable zones then the message needs to be changed to reflect that.
At present it’s extremely contradictory with numerous players (me included) getting almost simultaneous messages that the map needs to close due to low population and minis cannot be displayed due to high population.
(If it is also intended that minis will not ever display in explorable maps then I do feel a refund should be available for gem store mini packs for players like myself who spend most of our time in explorable maps and will therefore be unable to use our minis.)
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
As some people have pointed out, you could have an entire zone filled with nothing but Rangers, and they aren’t going to remove their pets due to excessive strain on the servers.
Upcoming patch; All Rangers and their pets are now hidden from other players if/when the population of a given map rises above a certain threshold. If you find yourself dying unexpectedly from seemingly nothing, please check the new and improved Combat Log to see if it was one of our invisible players friends. This mechanic has also been added to Necromancers who uses pets, as well as to Mesmers, every time they create a clone and/or Phantasm.

Never said they couldn’t be upset about it, but just because they spent 1000g on digital “pets” does not mean Anet should drop everything and INSTANTLY fix this. To be honest, I think Anet was far too ambitious with this “feature” in the first place. They HAD to KNOW this would cause performance issues (and thus prevented them with the pet culling everyone is upset about) AND that putting it in place would anger the mini-peties out there.
No doubt (like LOTS in this update), it has been handled badly, but DEMANDING an instant fix like this issue keeps you from playing the game at all is just childish….

That’s the way that lady luck dances
I used to play a F2P MMO called Perfect World. At one point in the game’s life cycle they added fairies, which were basically minipets which gave you access to a couple extra skills. The problem was that 1) they were available straight out of the door, so EVERYONE had one, 2) there were only four different varieties so they got boring to see real fast, and 3) there was no way to turn them off. And in a game where the central trading area had literally several hundred players and NPCs in visible proximity, a hundred extra minipets to render really did not help game performance. That game would have really benefited from minipet culling.
I am perfectly fine with the culling of other people’s minipets if there are enough out to affect game performance. Like Eternity and Spinal Blades, I don’t really care about other people’s gaudy bragging rights gear.
However, if you activate your own minipet, you should always be able to see it. No exceptions.
This stinks. I really, really wish I hadn’t added my panda mini to the wardrobe now. I haven’t got all that many minis but the panda is impossible to replace as an item.

Some of us spent way more then that using cash to buy gems to buy pet packs. I was fine with the way it worked if I wanted my pet out I kept two to three in the top of each of my toons bags. Zone in hit “I” click pet, that was my traveling companion for the majority of the zone.
They seem to have forgotten to mention that pets would be culled before adding them to the area in the wardrobe. How many people do you think would have added them? Yes it’s nice that collections give you rewards but this was a working feature prior to this and why I bought minis from the shop. I just don’t understand how they can offer to sell new minis knowing they can’t even be seen in the majority of zones. They should at least put it in fine print for the new players who won’t know better and will purchase them from the gem store. But then again as new players won’t know better they may just see it as an expensive collection so win/win.
As far as my testing with a bunch of Queen Jenna minis I had sitting in the bank goes, they get hidden regardless of being called out the new way or the old way.
In either case, though… they basically removed mini pets from most of the game. This morning, around 10AM Eastern, I tested every zone. My mini pet only stuck around in cities and instances. No open/public zone allowed my mini pet to remain.

That’s just not acceptable at all. This need a fix ASAP. No, maybe not “instantly,” I am realistic afterall. But it needs a fix very soon. Some of us have not just spent in-game gold getting pets, we’ve spent real money on these pets and would like to be able to SEE the pets we’ve paid for. Otherwise they need to give us refunds.
Hey everyone,
While this is currently working as intended, it’s definitely something that we’ll be working on and tweaking in the future. We want you to be able to enjoy your minis so hang in there!
I’m really angry and upset about this “new mini feature”.
1. Arenanet did not warn us before patch and enforced the intended experiment directly. That’s terrible and shows no respect to players, since this two years old game is not in a close beta status. If I know that minis can not be seen or enjoyed in many maps due to too many players , I wont collect them even it can be account bound for all characters, cause we just can not enjoy minis freely. You got to wait until there is no player in the map. That’s a stupid feature.
2. Arenanet do not explain or can not explain the reason why system tells us to leave map with few players while telling us mini are hidden due to Rising Player Population. Doesn’t that sound stupid and contradictory? Or it’s a bug? So far Areanet did not admit that it’s a bug, but they insist that it’s an intended setting. I don’t buy it. That’ll be a really stupid feature ever, if it’s not a bug.
3. I can wait, if I know Areanet is gonna fix this problem. But so far they insisted that’s an intended feature. For how long will this experiment end? Two weeks? One Month? After LS on November? Or we got to wait until next feature pack? I only know that Stephane Lo Presti said that it will be tweaking in the future. I’m angry because we don’t have enough information about this problem, neither before patch nor after patch. At least tell us how this “feature” works, let’s us know the rule about how or where can we use the minis. Where should I go or in what situation can I see my own minis? That rule is not a hidden JP and should not be an intended secret that players have to find it by themselves.
4. GM Talonn told us that minis can not be refund or unbound if you don’t like this new intended feature, see: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Customer-Support-9-9-Feature-Build/first#post4380306
What can I do with minis which I can’t enjoy in many pve maps? I bought minis with gems not for completing collection achievements.

Like someone said in another post, vote with your wallet. I’m someone who has no problem supporting the gem store (arguments about where the money actually goes aside) a couple times a month, but until this is fixed ….. no.
It’s laughable that anet billed this feature as really great for mini collectors and users. Every time I go into an explorable area and try to bring out a mini that I paid cash for, I just end up shaking my head in disappointment.
The other elements of this patch don’t really bother me. To be honest they dont really affect me all that much either (I tend to focus on one main character and rarely play alts).
This one does bother me, even if it doesn’t really affect me (I dont particularly care about minipet usability). It bothers me to see a company sell a product (minis in the gemstore) while simultaneously, knowingly, with admitted intent (stated to be WAI) implementing systems to prevent the buyers from being able to use the product.
I would so kitten happy if the solution included lowering the megaserver map caps. Having minis AND breathing space, what a treat…

Well basically some ppl have low end pcs and cos of it rest of players can’t enjoy the game ^^ Well Anet ppl can’t u add 2 lines of code more and add option ot menu to hide minis( except theirs) for players with low pcs? This will solve the problem
I’ve told a guildie of mine to post on the forum but he won’t so…
He says he is having problems now with the mini pets and being able to play. The game is lagging for him now whenever he goes to a high population map, to the point where he is threatening to quit playing and find another game.
Possibly an option to hide everyone’s mini pets would be a good idea for people without a good connection.
Honestly I get that culling is important for performance, that’s perfectly understandable. What I don’t understand is why the culling would cause me to not see my own personal mini-pet. That’s like play model culling not letting you see yourself on the screen.
Clearly this was not what they intended. If it was then dear lord what is the logic. Why even have mini-pets if you can’t see them? I don’t care about seeing other people’s pets (on some level I do but I can sacrifice that), however there’s no logical reason that culling needs to hide my own pet.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
This stinks. I really, really wish I hadn’t added my panda mini to the wardrobe now. I haven’t got all that many minis but the panda is impossible to replace as an item.

Actually the panda is available for laurels. So it may be annoying, but it’s not impossible to replace.
Yes I found this out yesterday as it happens, I thought I need the ‘Gift of Something or Other’ and hadn’t realised their was a laurels version. Unfortunately, I tested using a not-in-the-wardrobe pet on another character and get the same message (minis disabled due to rising player population) so it doesn’t seem to matter.
My panda is safe, and shared, but nobody can see her, and that makes us both sad pandas!

This makes me sad. I spent months trying to get enough laurels to buy Goedulf so he could run around with my new character as I was leveling. Had I known this was going to happen, I would have spent my laurels on Ascended accessories for my level 80 instead. I have also been subjected to the conflicting message of “Volunteer to move to a higher population map” while simultaneously not being able to display my mini pet “due to rising player population.” This completely defeats the purpose of having minis. I would appreciate a return to the old mini system, or at least being able to see my own mini and the minis of people in my party. Please bring back minis in a usable capacity! Thank you! I appreciate your hard work in making this otherwise awesome game!
I’ve been playing for the better part of the last 6 hours and the mini pet culling seems to have gotten even more erratic.
They still work 100% of the time in cities, instances and WvW (even when I had to que to enter a WvW map when I got there I was able to see my mini and everyone else’s).
But in explorable maps it seems to vary wildly. I was in Wayfarer shortly after the Maw event ended, there was a lot of chatter on map chat but I was able to keep my mini out. Later on the same map dropped low enough that I was invited to move to another one, but at that time I was also being told my mini was hidden due to rising population.
Sometimes it would just disappear without a message coming up too. And when that happened it seems to go one of 3 ways with no pattern I could see:
1) The check box is still ticked but the mini doesn’t appear. Deselecting and reselecting it brings it back.
2) The check box is unticked (100% sure I didn’t do this myself), ticking it brings the mini back.
3) The mini slot is completely empty. I have to re-find the mini I wanted in the list and select it for it to re-appear.
Honestly it’s hard to follow all the odd behaviour I’ve been seeing from this system today, but the one positive is this makes me more certain that it’s bugged and is not intended to work the way it has been so far. Which gives me hope that it will be fixed eventually.
I’m fine with minis being hidden on high population maps, that’s sensible. But it should only be when there’s so many players and/or minis that it would affect server performance, not when we’re also being told the map is too empty and needs to close.

LOL! this is SO funny! xD… are you guys kitten serious?? so let me get this straight… you make this AMAZING new change in which minis are accountbound and you no longer have to keep them in the inventory bag but instead can conveniently select them from the hero panel but they dont show up in open world because of high population?? LOL then what is the point of even having a mini? FIX THIS! i want to see my minipet in the openworld with me! not only by previewing it in my heropanel but actualy SEEING IT with me! and it not being hidden….
It doesn’t make sense. How can it not be an issue in cities and yet be an issue out in the ‘world’ so to speak. Minipets shouldn’t be putting any ‘real’ extra strain on the servers since all they do is follow you. They don’t wander off on their own, they don’t fight, they don’t care when you die. If there is an issue here, it’s something that Anet needs to fix. I have not been happy with how mini pets are here compared to gw1. More often than not they get missed and buried under everything going on around you.
But this? This is just… I don’t really have words to describe how much this ‘feature’ slaps users in the face.
For clarity: There are other things that are big issues that do more than that, but for those of you that don’t understand other’s concerns with minipets, realize they spend a lot of money on them, and this is effectively a ‘Bait and Switch’. So whether it has value to you or not, think how much you’d have a fit to buy that new shiny sword to have it switched to a regular iron sword… or to buy the latest dress, only for them to package a burlap sack instead…
I do not believe this is so much an issue with users computer’s as it is with the server. But if the servers are so sensitive that a few more minipets out can cause issues, then giving us this ‘feature’ to always have them out everywhere, on every character, was a mistake in the first place.
