While this is currently working as intended, it’s definitely something that we’ll be working on and tweaking in the future.
Stephane,
I’m going to presume you didn’t mean to contradict yourself there.
Thanks for the patch, i (and i supose all of us) can see the mini alot more often now
I’ve told a guildie of mine to post on the forum but he won’t so…
He says he is having problems now with the mini pets and being able to play. The game is lagging for him now whenever he goes to a high population map, to the point where he is threatening to quit playing and find another game.
Possibly an option to hide everyone’s mini pets would be a good idea for people without a good connection.
Here’s my problem with this.
We had mini pets, for two years. They sold them to us, those of us who liked them bought them, we were probably very happy with them.
I presume that your friend was able to play for 2 years before the patch?
So why did they make a change that not only killed the enjoyment for mini-pet aficionados, but also cause new problems for people without mini pets?
We had them for two years, they were fine, why did they have to change them?
Also, since mini-pets are skins, and we pay for them or work hard for them to show them off to the world, in all fairness, they should add an option to replace every giant, surf board, flaming, legendary skin of kitten with newbie weapon skins.
I’d turn that on, and leave the mini pets on.
Thanks for the patch, i (and i supose all of us) can see the mini alot more often now
So far, so good. I haven’t been but to a couple of zones but no nasty messages about being hidden.
Many thanks if this is finally worked out!
I could only go online a few minutes but my miniature was showing. Glad it was fixed.
Quick solution: Show the mini pets only in player’s own computer; either without any network communication, or with only communication between this player and the server.
I find it very irritating that the “rising player population” is caused by the forced player movement from less populated maps to higher populated maps, and that there is no a way to stay in less populated maps in order to see the mini pet.
We just bought an expensive 6.58 g Moa Mini Pet for my daughter, and how to explain this feature to child? She has not earlier wanted to spend gold at all, but now she wanted without hesitation; I guess that it was important to have baby moa for her pet moa! And now Anet is taking the baby away from the Moa,
Finally, thank god!!
I finally saw my mini and minis from other players at the same time in a tier 4 dry top map today(after yesterday’s patch). And these minis stayed there all the time from tier 1 till the end of sandstorm. That makes me so happy!!!
It’s so nice to see many minis and players running around beside me and fighting with monsters. And most important is that I did not sense anything wrong with the performance of server. So…what’s wrong at the very beginning of this patch update? NVM, I don’t care, I just hope that the good time will last forever, but honestly it’s hard to trust them anymore…..so I just thank god and thank all of you who speak out loud how you feel about missing-minis here in this forum…>.<

It seems to be working for me as well, although I’ll want to try more of a variety of zones and populations before I’m sure.
And now I’m actually able to have my mini out in explorable zones I’m starting to really enjoy the ability to switch at will too.
I have a lot of minis and I like to use almost all of them (except the spiders) so it was always difficult for me when I’d stop off at a bank to try and pick the one (or even 2 or 3) minis I’d be using for the next several hours/days on that character.
Now I don’t have to worry about it. If I feel like I haven’t used my mini wasp in a while I can switch to it and it doesn’t matter if I get bored with it 15 minutes later, I can just swap back. If I happen to find myself waiting for someone to join a dungeon group and feel like showing off I can pull out my mini llama, instead of trying to guess in advance what minis I might want to show people I have.
I think it was simply bugged initially (actually not working as intended), outside of WvW and towns. I see my Miniature much more often now, with very few cases having it being culled. Regardless however, I don’t think my Miniature should ever be culled for me. It’s nice if the message states it is culled for others though, so I don’t look like a weirdo if I talk about my crow friend that’s not there for other players. Perhaps make it so that a party see each others Miniatures even if they should normally have been culled?
I do also still dislike that Miniatures are taken out of the market cycle. There’s no longer a collection around them at that point. In the sense that you collect and you trade. There were already a lot of Account Bound Miniatures, with only a few making sense to bind (CE and HoM ones), but at least you had the ability to “Trade you x and y for a z”. I find such player interactions to be fun. The main problem was that the Trading options from Guild Wars are nowhere to be found in this game, and I think it could sorely need it. Even if we got Mail and Trading Post systems. I still want to feel like I’m face to face trading with someone now and again.
Also, by making Miniatures unavailable, you are hampering your potential to earn real money, ArenaNet. Collectors, don’t want to collect something they can’t fully collect. There’s no point in collecting Miniatures for a lot of players, if you’re unable to “catch them all”. Account Bound status on a bunch of them, as well as the limited availability for some, and some outright being near impossible to get (e.g., the debacle you created with Mini Mr. Sparkles, which caused myself, and others, to stop giving you money for Miniatures), only hurts your potential of cashing in on those of us that actually collects/collected. I don’t think you’re always being all that financially clever when it comes to a lot of these things that you do. This saddens me. You are taking so many wrong choices when it comes to earning yourself money, and then you look at other ways of pushing players into making you money, again the wrong ways. You need someone to slap your financial direction team, they are doing a terrible job quite honestly. Rule of thumb, ask yourself, will this negatively impact someone that may be giving us real money, causing them to stop doing so? If yes, look for a different idea/iteration, as you don’t want to make players who already give you money willingly, to stop giving you money. PS: You did it again with the Mini Llama. You obviously don’t learn from your mistakes.

Thank you! Seems to be working much better. In the event that something happens in the world and they do need to be hidden from time to time, hopefully you are working on (or already fixed?) a better process to un-hide them without zoning once you move away from congested areas and/or people move on from a zone.
So now, many of the new features are great, especially popping the pet back up when you get out of the water (which…is a fair enough compromise, though I don’t understand why the puppy can’t swim when it’s probably the same frame as the mini lions).
Two quality of life things:
1. If would be nice to have a hot key that would toggle show/hide the mini. There are lots of times when I jump up on terrain where the mini can’t follow, and I used to just open my bag and un-summon and summon him again. Now, you have to go hunting in paper doll menus, and I usually keep mine on the equipment tab.
2. Speak of the equipment tab, it would be nice to have the same little icon and toggle on that tab, even though we can’t change it there. Check/Uncheck, and if you click on the mini box, it takes you to the mini tab.
Note: I think these same two recommendations would go a long way with outfits as well.
And another post-panic thank you.
This is fantastic. Thank you for “tweaking” the culling issue so our minis aren’t forever hidden.
I still think the user interface could use a little work though. All the minis seem shoved into a pile so it’s difficult to see what you have. They remind me of a wall of text without any paragraph breaks. I’d love the ability to sort them, similar to what you added with dyes.
Some ideas:
Alphabetically
by set (especially so we can see which ones we lack for the achievements)
by rarity
and by adding the ability to tag them as favorites.
Well I’m glad the new patch is working for some of you above and you can now see your minis, but for me, things haven’t changed.
After updating my game and reading updated patch notes, i was hopeful but sadly, my hopes were dashed once i started playing and saw no change regarding my minis. I spent several hours playing today on separate occasions in various maps and varying times of day and didn’t see my mini appear once. I spent quite some time in Lonar Pass and there was hardly anyone there, but my mini was still hidden.
I went to Orr and even as i was given an option in Malcor Leap to leave an emptying map my mini stayed hidden. I checked the equipped mini box and it was unchecked, so i tried to tick it on but soon as I close the UI and open it again, i find it unchecked again and no mini showing. Not getting those annoying chat messages anymore, but not sure if this is much better tbh, as now i have to open the UI to see what’s going on.
After a while and no progress i just gave up.
Update: Today my mini was showing all the time, even in a busy map! TYVM ecstatic!
I think that perhaps I needed to reboot my PC for the new patch to take effect? As on the patch day, I updated the game and immediately logged in so perhaps that’s why it didn’t work. Not sure, but w/ever the reason, I’m relieved it’s been fixed.
Once again TY Anet, that was my only gripe with the mini wardrobe (minis being hidden), otherwise I love it.
There’s still a problem of minis disappearing when you make a wardrobe change (dying or transmuting armor). The moment you click APPLY, they are removed.
I yet have to test of any fixes. Yesterday the message about hiding mini pets appeared again.
I have some new ideas to my previous suggestion – see my comment earlier in this topic. I assume the reason for hiding mini pets is the network traffic.
Instead of on/off, the mini pets could be shown (1) to owner only without network traffic, (2) to owner only so that only Anet knows the mini pet – traffic only between owner and Anet, (3) to a few players – nearest N players, nearest within range, party, guild, friends (if at range), (4) to all.
I would dislike the mini pet invasion, but I throw this idea too:
Now use of mini pets is limited to one mini pet at a time. Player could have more mini pets at a time if visibility of pets are controlled as above. Player could have a mini pet management dialog where player marks all pets that should be shown (this is preserved over map change etc.), and where player puts the pets to preference order.
E.g., in a medium filled map, the first mini pet could be shown to all, second to nearby players, third only to owner. If extra mini pets are shown only to the owners, I would not complain about the invasion.
