I’ve tried to find a post about this subject but I didn’t find any. With the mining picks bought with karma from Crusader Patrick in Bloodtide Coast (“http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mining_Pick”) , it is possible to mine Orichalcum with my level 2 characters. Is it considered an exploit if I mine the rich orichalcum vein in Southsun Cove every day with those low level characters? I think not, since you probably can do the same with black lion mining picks. I just want to make sure, since maybe those mining picks were not “intended” to mine orichalcum… Thank you!

That’s like saying no you won’t get banned for salvaging certain crafted items. Who knows because ANet is freaking ban-happy towards anything that makes players gold.

What? This is complete bull crap. People get banned for the stupidest things lately, and I even heard stories from players who got banned for doing nothing wrong, and had proof that they weren’t. Yeah, they got their accounts back for submitting a ticket, but why were they banned in the first place?

This is the type of behavior that needs to be stop not encourage. I shouldn’t log on to Guild Wars 2 just to play, and fear being banned, because I might do something illegal. Since the poor, and lack of communication on Arenanet part on things.

Example: Players asked if the snow flake bug was intended. They never got answered, and Arenanet didn’t give us a warning. It was just. “BAN, LOL, BAN, LOL.”, but luckily it was only the worse 200 offenders. Even still this type of Fear they are instilling into their players is bad.

I see no reason why this Player can’t go mine Ori at level 2 if he has the means to do so. That’s his choice, and that’s how he wants to play his game.
Besides there’s no difference between 1, and 80 besides 1, and 0s. There’s no reason why he needs to wait to mine it if he wants to make money, or craft.

Anyways. that’s my thought.

That was kind of the point although it obviously did not come off that way. I was trying to point out how rediculous it was that people got banned for using something as intended. And the need to walk on eggshells because you may get banned for the silliest things.

He’s mining his ori at level 2. Would it really make a big difference if he was mining it at level 80?

exactly… its not farming that is teh problem its underpriced orders by peopel being TP trolls.

lol… I’m surprised it’s taken this long to see more “if I do X will I get banned” threads. I was expecting to see a rash of them after the Snowflake Incident.

Don’t worry too much, OP: if you get banned, you can just request a refund, since you were using the tools as intended.

I remember a thread that dealt with this but not from the “is it bannable” perspective. It was more oh the horror of it, the economy is ruined. I couldn’t make any sense of that concern. If you can get the level 2 to the rich ori node in Southsun, I don’t condemn you, I salute you. But, if I were you I would park a level 80 in a level 80 area. There is no difference to the economy whether you are level 2 or level 80. If the picks are account bound and you can get the level 2 to a level 80 area I really don’t see the problem with this, though some apparently do.

Ori in my opinion, needs to drop down to mithril levels. This game need to be more player friendly.

TIP: you agro zone its almost like the range of the entire map. And mobs bodyshot you.

And yes, its a glitch and its baneable, but probably you will never get banned for this like most “extreme glich players” that exploit dungeons and take adventage over non glitchers dungeon farmers.

Because in this game getting a perm ban is the equivalent of any other game’s warning. Where another game would say “This is against system rules. Do this again and you’ll receive a 3 day suspension”, here you will be swiftly and immediately removed from the game, without the possibility of return, regardless of your past account history.

It’s kinda scary, tbh. I don’t blame the players for double checking every little thing. At first the MMO community was like “wooo go Arenanet! Crack down on the evildoers!” but now the company is getting something of an infamous reputation because of it >_>

The only thing that really matters is just How Much Orichalcum can you get with this method.

If you are able to produce an absurd amount of Ori is a relatively short time, then yes, it is an exploit.

Why does everything in this game that makes you money need to be an exploit?
Drops are crap already, and don’t tell me they aren’t, because out of all the hours I played I may have gotten 4-5 rares, and i’ve been playing since launch, and the only time I ever got an exotic was doing the Lost Shores event. That’s pretty pathetic.

This isn’t an exploit, and stop saying it is. If I have 3 alts, and they all had armor smithing. or weapon smthing, and I need all that ore. Should I be ban, because I needed ore for all my alts?

People need ways to make money, and everyone can do this if they wanted to.
Stop banning every single way to make money in this game.
If they started to ban alts from crafting the same ore is the day I quit the game. It’s the only way I can make money right now.

This isn’t a bug, and it’s not a glitch. People need to be able to mine ore on alts if it’s to make gold, or use those materials.

I really dont see the harm in this for a couple of reasons 1. You bought the picks to mine with 2. your mining it like anyone else. 3. you actually have to work harder than say a level 80 person just because of aggro range 4. Your not doing anything that gives you a advantage over any other player.

The increased aggro range actually puts you at a disadvantage instead of say, teleport hacker/bots that can go anywhere with no impunity.

If you’re creating/deleting alts to get around the node refresh timer and do it a dozen times a day , then yes, that’s an exploit.

If you just have an actual character, sneak him over there and farm the ore once a day, that’s fine.

This isn’t an exploit, the only way this would be an exploit is if you were somehow getting more ori from the node than one does normally on a per character basis.

If you can find an escort, go for it. You’ll also need someone else to distract the champ karka every time you want to mine because if it’s anywhere nearby, you’re dead.

Just for giggles, I took a level 60 thief to the rich ori vein to see if I could. Nope. Even a full shadows thief with all the possible stealth tricks can’t stealth enough given that level 80 mobs aggro level 60 toons from a LONG ways away.

Oh, and with the price of Ori dropping like it has been, this is a horribad way to try and make some extra coin. Getting said alt to level 80 and doubling up on AC explore paths would make you far, far more.

Selling food bought with karma was not intended, people were banned. What if it’s not intended to mine ori with those picks (bought in a 45-55 zone)?

I still think that it is not an exploit, but only ArenaNet knows what is “intended”.

The reason ori prices are falling is because of the rich ori node in Southsun Cove.

This is sort of like asking if it’s exploiting if I’m able to beat a level 80 player in WvW with my scaled up level 60 Necro just because the skill difference is that large…I mean, if I’d ever done anything like that. My Necro’s only level 10.

IMO, I wouldn’t make statements like that. Without a definitive answer from Arenanet, and Arenanet being as ban happy as they are known to be, wouldn’t you feel a tad bit guilty if you saw that everyone who was doing this got banned next week and didn’t know whether any of them kept it up because of your advice? =D

If this were any other game, and any other company, I would say your reasoning is sound and its good advice. But here… it’s like your account is on borrowed time as it is without pushing your luck. The only advice I can give is “If you have to ask, you should probably avoid it.”

It’s not an exploit unless they have found a way to get to the node via a glitch. That lvl2 still has to survive to get there and pay repairs also. Although their repair bill will be much lower than lvl80; they can’t get out of it if they die. I don’t see a problem with it.
If some of these alt-o-holic people take their 20 alts to the ori node every day is that an exploit? They are all legitimate char’s and these ppl love creating them for whatever reason.
Personally I don’t go to Southsun on a daily, more like a bi-monthly visit with one character. Still if I want to take all the alts there (lowest is lvl23) I should be able to. I just don’t feel like making a mad dash through the entire map. But if others like it, more power to them.

Quoted for truth. Is it exploiting if I bring all of my level 5-10 alts into WvW just to get the Ori out of the puzzle with karma picks? Don’t think so. And why, if I’m able to get there past a bunch of level 80 mobs with a level 2 character, shouldn’t I be able to go where I want as long as I’m doing it properly (no glitches or exploits)?

Are you suggesting that anyone would take that amount of time to farm an ori node? And, do you realize how much more gold you would gain through a fraction of that time simply running pent/shelt on a level 80 character. Exploits are usually time-efficient unintended ways to ‘loop’ gold production and anyone doing it puts players to a disadvantage who are not doing it. While this may not be intended play, I would say anyone doing this ‘exploit’ would simply be gimping themselves.

Even though there is merit in getting a low level to the rich orichalcum node, the exploit would be using the obviously bugged mining pick, I will remind you that it is a pick very easily obtainable in a lvl 45-55 area, that has no level requirement, and can mine tier6 nodes.

In the end, it is using a bugged item for profit, therein is the exploit. Anet might not ban anyone over this, or they might, but you can be sure that this will be fixed sooner than later.

I was wondering whats causing the fast drop in ori prices. Soon I dont need to bother with those nodes either.

So many ways to make good money in this game, and you fellas worry about a few extra silver. Well maybe this thread will help to push the ori prices back up with a fix, so I guess it does serve some purpose.

That’s some long term investment, even just for 2 extra slots considering this might get fixed soon.

I got 16 characters, I don’t even bother doing this, simply tedious work for beggars who can’t figure out how to make real gold.

I think a lot of you don’t even understand what he’s asking. It’s not the fact he’s using a low level alt to sneak out and mine ori, its that he’s exploiting the fact the node respawns when he delets the alt, makes another and runs back out. Depending on how often he does this, yeah it’s an exploit and could possibly get you banned. Why not just farm it like the rest of us instead of doing risky activity jsut to satisfy your own laziness? If you are doing questionable activity and get banned, you have no one to blame but yourself.

Then in that case, I really don’t see any need to be worried about it. If the pick has no level requirement as most of them do, go for it.

If you’re not using those to farm that node then I feel sorry for you.

Also OP wasn’t who suggested the “make alt, farm node, delete alt” method, OP simply asked if farming the node with his level 2 was bannable, to which I suggest, if it’s something that you’re considering might get you banned, then why risk it? If ANet’s doling out bans the way we think they are, then there’s not much we can do, except do stuff the obviously legal way. My hope is they’re either actually taking bans very seriously and we’re all just overreacting due to lack of exact information or erroneus information some of us have made up, or that they’ll learn from their ways and take stuff more calmly, IF our concerns are legitimate.

Well, there are people crowing about having 5, 7,10,15 toons parked at the rich ori node and mining 100+ ore in five mins each day. Is that an exploit or is it just playing the game?

Well since this “Ruins the economey”, just look at orichalcum prices, everyone who farms orichalcum with a char below level 60 should be permanbanned.

Clearly a exploit, the karma pick being able to mine ori is clearly a error so the people doing it should be banned. On the other hand being lvl 2 is not a issue aslong as your using a black lion pick.

What I get out of reading this:

Gem Shop = Good!
Playing the Game = Bad!

Same situation. Just one comes from a Karma vendor and the other from the Gem Shop/random black lion chest drops.

This. I have always supported and defended Anet, but I DO NOT agree with how they have handled the banhammer thus far, and I have yet to be on the receiving end of it. That should say something…. as there are many people who have yet to be banned who are still in extreme disagreement with what they are doing.
