Bano, stay on topic this isnt about lightsabber duels or Moahawks. This is about the fact that the community has ranted on and on about mounts, and now that areananet is for some reason updating there patches with pictures of people riding things when they arnt in game in the first place. And why is this more important than Moahawks or Lightsabbers? Because Arenanet said not to long ago that there would be no mounts added in game, yet they keep dishing out concept art featuring mounts. I mean come on, would it be more or just as dramatic/epic if the people on horses and dolyacks would just be standing there? And if you say no, then theres a justifiable reason for mounts for ya.

Dolyak’s are meant to be big. Scaling them down to ride on wouldn’t look right in the game world.

I could see dolyak’s in a future escort mission that pull a wagons. That the player can control.

Steven, you’re ridiculous… to blow something like this out of proportion just shows that some people will never be content with this game, despite the developers efforts. Heres is a quick tid-bit. Refugees are moving south to avoid the storm, with all of the belongings they can muster… they use a Dolyak to do so and help carry said possessions. How do you get “Zomg we can ride them! THEY LIED TO US!!!” ???

P.S- Objectives change when they have people crying on the forums for mounts. Mount with no speed buff = cosmetic mount which makes both parties happy. But to assume a piece of artwork with a tiny ridden dolyak on it means we are getting that? Come out of your cave and stop playing GW2.

I don’t care to have a regular land based mount. Kind of a waste with having to stop for everything if you are trying to kill as you go, and if you want fast travel, you’re better off using a way point.

If I can’t fly, then the mount would be a waste.

So according to ops logic since there won’t be mounts in guild wars 2, there can be no art of any kind where anyone is riding an animal. EVER. As long as the game exists

Concept art is not necessarily a blueprint to follow by rote. Can you explain as to why Anet insist on not having mounts? I seriously don’t understand what’s so terrible about it. Sure you skip content by using mount but if you can make a big game like guild wars 2, I’m pretty sure you can make mounts only usable for people who has completed 100% world completion.

After all, if we’ve already completed and visit the entire world once, the next time should be easier, right?

Plus, what do you do with gift of exploration anyway if you aren’t going to craft Legendary weapons?

Anet has always catered to a wide playerbase, but at no time have they brought forth player mounts. This conversation isn’t specific to gw2 either, it was started with gw1 and it still didn’t happen. Give it up, it’ll never happen. Maybe a unicycle from the Asura, some mechanical contraption from the Charr, I’m pretending the Humans did the broom, and the Norn? I got nothing for Norn.

Anet likes to attempt the e-sport thing so there might be a side project with an arena or duels but there is a definite “NO” to the mounts.

While I agree that using a horse in a game that has no such creature was poor planning on the artists and designers parts, it is still just concept art – “CONCEPT”. Same goes for “Iron Horse Mine” or whatever it’s called… You didn’t put them in the game, you can’t use the words from a purists perspective.

You’re not one to dictate how people see Tyria. There’s a thing called “choice”. And by buying the game, you get that right. Just like no one is forcing you to teleport (the argument people loves around here), no one would force you to use mount.

And since there’s no world pvp, it wouldnt harm anyone. It would make Tyria look better. Since people would ride their horse, instead of teleporting every small distance.

Anet wouldn’t pass up a chance to make a buck. It would be foolish to not put these on the cash shop someday. Wasted opportunity.

My main issue with this concept art is that the beast of burden in question appears to be a horse. Yet, I’ve failed to see a horse in all of tyria. (I have my world completion, so I’d have seen them if they were there.)

And yet, we do know that at least at some point in history they did exist. Necrid Horsemen are mounted on their skeletal remains, after all.

Please give this game finally real mounts.
There are more than enough proofs by now, that they do exist, the best one being within the second Guild Wars book on page 97, where clearly stands in, that the characters are seeing WILD HORSES through an asura gate…

There exist multiple concept arts, that show horses, the last one now with the flame and frost event row… how many god **** proofs do you need more to finally accept, that mounts are part of the world of Tyria.

Give the game mounts together with a Dragoon Class, would be even the most best combination, as the game would get by this also its 3rd soldier class then to make it an even 3,3,3

My honest opinions:

If this or that can’t, what else is there in gw2?
I’ve waited months to see the “elements” that’s gonna make gw2 into a real mmo “rpg*”. It seems that gw2 removed lots of rpg elements, yet never fill back the hole with other elements with equal substance. GW2 is moving on to a more adventure/action genre MMO, than a mmorpg. The “adventure + action” elements in the game has overshrouded the “rpg” in the game.

All I can say,
GW2 = MMO + RPG-skin (fake progression) with action adventure mechanic.

This is a compliment to ArenaNet in a way, I think everyone knows this games design makes mounts for speed almost pointless so in that sense I agree with leave mounts out.

But then I get to thinking, ArenaNet have revamped and rewritten so many other parts of the MMO genre how awesome could they make mounts?

No for speed, for the sheer awesomeness of being a Char in a homemade tank, a human Warrior charging Jormag on his noble steed or simply an insane Asura Elementalist bimblig about on his Phoenix thingymebob

Consider that Asura lived underground and have short legs, mounts wouldn’t really make sense.

To all posters wondering why this vitriolic hate towards mounts, duels etc. from some people – it is because they passionately hate WoW and mistakenly liken all those things to that game.

Newsflash. Mounts, duels, and yes, sitting in chairs was present a LONG time before WoW came to the MMO scene. If done right, they only add to the game experience and are in no way detrimental to it.

The difference is that he wants extra features in the game and you, for some reason, want less, even though the option simply not to use mounts is always there (we do have those speed skills for a reason).

The guy made a fair point, you got folk riding stuff all over the concept art thats been plastered around the new patch. I for one don’t believe there are going to be mounts, nor do I particularly care, but I feel you could have given a better answer.

Rather than making smart remarks about tinfoil hats why not just tell people something. Anything along the lines of ‘no’, ‘yes’ or ’we’re thinking about it’ would be about a thousand times more helpful.

I’d personally fully support cosmetic mounts that moved at the same speed as a character walking… or maybe halfway between walk and run. Any speed greater than actual run speed or really any reason to have them active in WvW would cause issues, either with loading characters, culling, stealth/AoE targeting, etc.

I doubt it’s about ‘wanting fewer features’, it’s about differentiating the game from its peers/competitors, preferring something novel over the expected route and perhaps mindful that developer/art team time may well be better spent elsewhere.

This is seriously still going on…. If it wasn’t enough that it was just a picture and it means nothing, but a dev came on and told you no. Stop acting like children (especially anybody who wants them to re-make their art so it falls in line with your wants and needs). They said no and have said no many times, stop getting upset over every little (non-existent) thing.

Mounts aren’t happening. They aren’t just some “I think I’ll add mounts today” kind of decision and they are very hard to implement. And at the moment… THERE IS NO NEED FOR THEM. You got a broomstick so be happy.
