Oh and yes, ground mounts+50% movement speed, and flying mount + 70% movement speed
If will be do this, gw2 will beat every mmos in the world….
Not at those speeds.

Hi Anet!
We need flying mounts, and ground mounts in the new expansion.
In HoT learned the glider mastery, it way cool, but if u already explored all maps, after much confortable if have a flying mount, what can learn example with the new expansion mastery.
It will be good some new weapons too, example 2h axe…
Maybe a new race…
you’re confusing need with unrealistic want.
Mounts: we have waypoints
Flying mounts: would nullify the kites AND destroy the game
Mounts aren’t needed imo. You can run fast enough from A to B as is (at least compared to most games that do have mounts running by foot really isn’t that terribly slow) and it’s not like we don’t have waypoints we can access by hitting “m”. What do we need mounts for?

Shrooms, swiftness, traits, ley lines, signets, gliding, air pads, wurm tunnels, jump pads, jump shrooms, vents, masteries, updrafts ,skills, waypoints, portable portals, and no doubt many more over compensating systems that people tend to stack to counter the stead fast system of the simple mount.
Mounts have always been a cosmetic thing however its been over four years and at this stage mounts are a protection thing for the health of the game. If a competing game released with a very similar battle system to this game akin to WoW clones and the wow battle system a gw2 clone so to speak this game would shrivel up fast. A competing game wouldn’t need all those movement systems they’d go the mount system and be done without any hassle. If it isn’t broke then don’t fix it and Anet for some reason wanted to try to fix the unbroken mechanic and thus were left with a bunch of time and effort put in for redundant systems.
We have a ton of movement systems in the game and we will no doubt have a ton of additional movement systems added but it all seems like a complete waste when you consider all of this is just equal to one single system the mount system. Personally I think it’s to late because redundant systems coupled with season1 means a game in direct competition could catch up extremely fast in terms of content and character development.
I think all of the “redundant” movement systems give something much more interesting than simply flying everywhere on a mount. I’ve played a few games with flight/flying mounts, and it was a novelty that quickly wore off. It can turn travel into simply pointing yourself in the right direction and holding down a button. At least GW’s systems provide variety and make traversal of the world more than just an idle task.
Though, I suppose if your gameplay mentality is ‘get to location ASAP, complete task, collect reward, go on to next location ASAP’ flying mounts would be the more attractive game feature. However, I don’t think that was Anet’s target audience with GW2. The design philosophy is about the entire experience being engaging, and I think that does include navigating the world. It’s probably why the flight system we do have requires that you actively work to maintain flight, instead of just moving on a level path to your destination.
I do think that ground mounts could be an nice addition, but it would need to be a carefully executed one. Being more of a cosmetic option, than added functionality. No more than a speed boost on par with what is already available through skills.

Technically we already have mounts in the game. Same movement speed but still a mount of sorts. Flying broom stick and magic carpet come to mind. We do not need to become WoW just stop. Mounts of that nature are not needed in this game.

It would probably satisfy most of the calls for mounts that crop up every so often if Anet used this system to implement some creature mounts. There are a number of creatures in the game that could serve as mounts, and it shouldn’t be too big of a job to modify those assets and add in animations to have them rideable. Surely much less effort than adding a separate, more comprehensive mount system.

Yes beacuse WoW has not tried to reduce the amount of access to mounts and especially flying mounts over the last 2 expansions…. oh no wait, they did. Unfortunately once pandoras box is opened… instead now they have to add arbitrary restrictions in order to limit mount and flying access in WoW in a last ditch effort to keep their open world and questing system semi interesting.
What you call reduntant movement systems I call innovative and more engaging than simply flying or bypassing open world content as fast as possible.
Guild Wars 2 doesn’t need to copy or improve or make it’sself more like something it never wanted to be. Let GW2 remain unique and special.

It wouldn’t. Most of the suggestions I see calling for mounts are looking for increased movement speed, in which case the executioners axe satisfies the requirements. And we already have the toys that satisfy they cosmetic requirement of riding something. So people want mounts literally just because they are a mount and other games have them.
I have yet to see a single argument about how mounts would actually make this game better.

Ok time for some history. Vanilla wow has some of themost terrible questing in the form of that where accept the quest, where you had to do the quest and where you had to turn that quest was really poorly made and flying solvedd that issue back then. With newer expacs their questing became better and flying was just a way to bypass zones (which is bad). WoTlk has some of the best zones period with how well it made the maps with the idea of unlcking flying later. Now blizzard tries to reduce the flying not mounts in general as ground mounts were and in every game are a good thing.
Gw2 will not lose its flavour if some of that that want mounts get them. What made gw2 unique and still does is the focus on so many diff area the living world the amazing story the dungeons the fractals the world bosses the jumping puzzles wvw its combat (even raids here feels diff from other mmos). GROUND mounts will not take away something from the game, instead for those of us that waypoints absolutely KILL every bit of immersion the world could have. Mounts to allow us to move around the maps freely but still somewhat efficiently and experience the entirety of it in a diff more natural way. Why do you think so many ppl like the hot maps? The lack of wp goes along way to make something feel big and expansive.
Not all asked for flying and flying is impractical since the zones are instanced and it would be wierd but ground mounts will not hurt the game in any way. It can even be fun with thieves or mesmer being able to make jokes abou outrunning a horse or w/e. And i dont find ridiculous for the mounts to have a 50% mov speed increasewhich dsnt stack with swiftness or it gives it a 10% more tops.

I never said they are trying to reduce mounts even if the wording might have been poor on my part the context was very clear. I was refering to Blizzard reducing mount and mount speed bonuses for travel.
WoWs questing when the game released was mindblowing and basically broke the industry and skyrocketed WoW into the behemoth it now is. You are comparing questing design of a 13 year old game to moddern MMOs. Now go back and compare WoWs questing design on release to other MMOs of that time.
Yes Blizzard is reducing the flying and artificially reduces the speed players can skip content on ground mounts. That alone is reason enough to realise that a mount system is not all blessing but another component which needs management.
Your argument that ground mounts will not take anything from the game is straight up flawed:
- they require ressources in design and implementation (costs developer ressources)
- they require area and skill design around a mount system (will affect character design and game balance especially as far as movement skills go)
- they require additional processing power to display (this in turn ups the specs of the game)
I’ll turn your argument around about HoT maps which currently have select waypoints. Giving players the ability to bypass areas of the maps with groundmounts would reduce map size. Your argument makes no sense.

Sure superspeed for everyone. You can’t be serious. There is a reason why superspeed is one of the more seldom buffs in this game.
None of the speedbuffs stack in this game fyi. The highest speedbuff takes priority. Obviously a mount speed buff would not stack.

- What ever developement cost there is can be easily made back with simply selling mounts on the gemsstore.
-Theres no need to change how character design and movement skills go as they dont effecct mounts in any way the only thing that needs to made is a riding animation and maybe a new rule for swiftness to not affect while mounted to to affect minimally.
-Gliders require also proccessing power (i mean have you seen that kitten raven glider) and ppl dont seem to have issue with those. So yeah a simple horse or w/e not seeing how it will break the game.
Blizzard hast tried to reduce the power of ground mounts in forever (expect the case of mounts that are ground and on the surface of water which in break the game in many ways). Yes the questing seems great at the start but after the first expac rolled out and the questing design in there was far superior to that of vanilla and it became apparent that the flying mounts were a great thing.
-I suppose you got a point that it could prob reduce the size of the jungle maps but that will reduce the complains of ppl saying that im dying all the time. Moving fater will help you get further away before getting in combat if getting hit.
But with more and more maps with way less waypoints and expecting the desert maps where i dont believe Palawa would allow waypoints. Mounts there to traverse the vastness of deserts would come in handy (nd yes i expect anet to capture the essence of the desert like they did with the jungle.

Superspeed in the open world yeah hmmm deff would ruin the experience and well if more than 50% is too much then leave it at that and simply mov increasing buffs dont effect you wile mounting.
- What ever developement cost there is can be easily made back with simply selling mounts on the gemsstore.
So we are going to add an extra mount developement team to arenanet. Sure sounds not risky at all.
-Theres no need to change how character design and movement skills go as they dont effecct mounts in any way the only thing that needs to made is a riding animation and maybe a new rule for swiftness to not affect while mounted to to affect minimally.
I was not talking about non mounted animations. I was talking about mounted animations and no, it’s not “just” a riding animation. It’s 10 riding animations for male and female versions of each race with new anchor points for weapons and armors etc.
-Gliders require also proccessing power (i mean have you seen that kitten raven glider) and ppl dont seem to have issue with those. So yeah a simple horse or w/e not seeing how it will break the game.
Gliders are open how long? A couple of seconds at best. How many people have you seen use gliders permanently while standing in player hubs?
Yes the questing seems great at the start but after the first expac rolled out and the questing design in there was far superior to that of vanilla and it became apparent that the flying mounts were a great thing.
Yes I’m sure players were extatic when they could skip 90% of all content and just fly from quest objective to quest objective. I was too when BC came out and I hit 70 on my priest. That unfortunately became the games standard. It absolutely kills immersion and world design. Exactly the reasons why Blizzard was considering not allowing flying AT ALL in Legion until player outcry forced them to added it back in. As I said, once the box of pandora is opened…
-I suppose you got a point that it could prob reduce the size of the jungle maps but that will reduce the complains of ppl saying that im dying all the time. Moving fater will help you get further away before getting in combat if getting hit.
Players complain all the time. Sometimes those complaints are justified, sometimes they go against the games design philisophy and/or core game aspects. Knowing when to listen to player feedback and when not to in order to stick to your vision is what makes a good developer.
But with more and more maps with way less waypoints and expecting the desert maps where i dont believe Palawa would allow waypoints. Mounts there to traverse the vastness of deserts would come in handy (nd yes i expect anet to capture the essence of the desert like they did with the jungle.
I guess arenanet are following a strategy giving players less waypoints. Maybe that strategy is to anoy the entire player base, or maybe it’s part of them wanting for players to have to experience the game, not skip it. There might be local fixed mount events like in Guild Wars 1 IF we get to the desert phase. But that is not the type of mounts asked for here.
I hope they don’t waste finite development resources on mounts.

There’s no need for flying mounts, and in fact Wow has been trying to delay giving players flying in the last two expansions, and yes would take away the need for gliders, one of the main selling points of the last expansion.
Ground mounts however can be set to speeds already obtainable on every character 25% run speed(traits skills runes), or 33% if they have the boon but not every class has it. Waypoints will still be faster. Instead of running on foot, you’re running on a mount, and gives anet another area to flood release additional skins like gliders.
Leaks indicate we’ll be getting mounts next expansion – and they WON’T be just cosmetic, but instead provide more movement opportunities similar to gliders.

But mounts can achieve higher speeds than Swiftness, while also providing utilities like canyon-jumping. And Waypoints aren’t as much a thing anymore, to the chagrin of anyone on Silverwastes, Lake Doric, Bitterfrost Frontier, and the SW side of Brisban,

and so the descent into gaming oblivion begins.. I shall have a wake for anet

Yes but let’s put those leaks in perspective. We are talking:
- local and map specific mounts which will be far more similar to bouncing mushroom or leyline gliding than what people perceive as mounts
- they will very likely be similar to Guild Wars 1 mounts in that they are required for certain areas of maps
So no, we are not getting mounts as they are commonly refered to here. We will likely be getting masteries similar to the ones we have right now just with maybe mounted creatures.
Does this mean we might get all over Tyria mounts in the future? Maybe (if animations are covered and adaptable) but still unlikely. I don’t see bounding mushrooms, leylines or updrafts all over Tyria. So I wouldn’t be getting my hopes up as a mount fetishist.

I hope we start getting mushrooms, updrafts, and ley-lines all over Tyria, though. It’s so tedious traversing the maps without Speed Boost Mushrooms
And the leaks indicate the mounts will have Gem Store skins, so they’re closer to Gliders than bouncing mushrooms. I hope, for the sake of any poor animal that would have a Charr on them, one of those skins is a Charr Motorcycle (Looking similar to the Machined Weapons/Charr Engine Backpiece)
Any ‘leaks’ I’ve seen have not been substantiated. I’ve not even heard of this ‘Gem Store skin’ leak before. The only one that seemed possibly viable was the screenshot of Amnoon Oasis, and that certainly showed no mounts with Gem Store skins.
I would not put much stock in rumors; or even data-mined content. Features may be tried, and discarded, just as much as they might eventually be included.
Good luck.
Why do you even want a mount? You already run quickly, you can already get to places quickly. Mounts are a solution without a problem.
No to mounts. This isn’t some terrible and decaying game. You know which one im talking about.
I want my character to ride a little pony around town. Please Anet!
Mounts would be great, but not your average type of mount, I want a gw2 twist to it.
This should be merged with the ancient mount megathread so you can beat this dead horse with everyone else. Don’t think hiding it under a different title will make mounts any less useless.
We don’t need mounts. I can already outrun a center.
Also, annoying bulky mount clutter.
I just don’t get the mount desire is it a fashion statement?
Speed surely can’t be a thing because waypoints….. plus the plethora of skills classes can use to move around.
I’d much rather the team potentially dedicated to this did other things.
I see anet as a company pushing boundaries of mmos not cloning it.
Also gliding is awesome.
Also also that was too positive for me….fix wvw rawr
fishing and other mini activities would be cooler than mount
On the subject of cloning games…. I would rather have mounts than raids.
It’s this thread again. Long time no see…

This again?
Ok. Summary:
1- Some people like mounts. Some people don’t. Arguments come and go always the same.
2- Mounts could be a great cosmetic addition to the gemstore, say someone. They will contibute to the visual clutter that already drowns the game, answer someone.
3- Mounts couldn’t have speed boosts because that would destroy the balance in the exploration part of the game, explains someone. People who plays only combat oriented despises this reasoning and use recursive arguments to say mounts with boost being non-combat only should be ok.
4-Mounts could look so cool, says one. They will stress up the servers, accuses another. Technical discussion about processing resources, graphic properties and toggles ensues. Not conclusive.
5- Someone mention cosmetic mounts already exist, in the form of travel toys like the flying carpet. Mount fans don’t like that solution and recognize they want speed boosts anyway.
6- People began to post lush examples from other games. WOW fans shine. WOW fans are encouraged to go back to play that.
7- Someone says Anet already said they never allow mounts. Someone says Anet never said that. No sources are given on any of these claims.
8- Back to 1 a few times.
9- Topic get merged with the big one.
10- Lots of dead horse beating gifs and images.
Play the game with the mounts we have(5), I know they’re neither firespitting dragons nor rainbow trail unicorns(2, 4, 5), if that’s just not your thing and you need mounts to enjoy a game, you might want to play another game(6)…
So let’s skip right back to 10 then and bury the issue for another 6 months or until ANet gives us one of those clear yes or no messages they’re so famous for on the issue…
The rest of your argumentation is basically purely assumptions of how some similar game to GW2 might, would, should or maybe beat GW2 because it has mounts.
You’ve obviously never played WoW
What does any of that have to do with Gw2 wasting time and energy remaking the same system. I mean seriously what is innovative about Bouncing shrooms, jump pads, air pads, and vents? They all do the exact same thing. Defending redundancies isn’t normal in any circumstance at all and it makes me question your intent. I’m not interested in the argument I’ve back and forth so many people engage in but if your plan is to defend the wasting of resources and redundancies then it’s not going to gain any traction.
Most people would typically like to see something new other than another rerelease of the jump pad. Freeing up reinventing the wheel for the hundredth time might lead to something new being introduced. The argument is that gw2 has squandered everything that has made it unique aside the combat system as underwater and WVW are woefully neglected. If there going to shift to a more traditional game as they have with the introduction of raids then a competing game would only need to hit the basics. There are upcoming MMOs such as the one from Amazon “New World” which has some of the original devs behind it could very easily have a similar combat system. Yet we get all these redundancies and near useless mechanics like the Kodan torch instead of something the community actual wants like templates. So why not we need mounts because they sit in a happy medium between universally desired things like templates and odd things like reinventing the movement wheel.
NO THANKYOU, the World is not designed for mounts. Better implementation of customization of the glider though would greatly please people with this mount niche. Seriously add custom insignias onto the glider customize where you place decorations on your glider and Suddenly you got something more enjoyable than mounts.
Current Charr Animations/Models and Mounts would MAKE ME PUKE!
I don’t know if I can make myself buy an expansion with mounts. I don’t expect them to care too terribly much, losing one player isn’t going to end them after all, but this may be it for me. I’m finding myself having a visceral response. I am disgusted. I actually feel vaguely nauseous just thinking about those leaked images. I’m not even sure why I feel so strongly about it, but I can’t deny that I do.
You’ve obviously never played WoW
My over 200 days played beg to differ. I did not play WoW during Pandaria and only 4-6 weeks during Cata, Warlords and Legion each and grew very bored very quick.
To each his own, I enjoy the different travel options and I’m sure the next expansion will add more of them. Maybe I just enjoy playing something different than 90% of what literally every other game on the market offers. It’s called being unique.
Most people would typically like to see something new other than another rerelease of the jump pad. Freeing up reinventing the wheel for the hundredth time might lead to something new being introduced.
Yes, because the implementation of mounts is new. What were you saying about redundencies earlier?
The argument is that gw2 has squandered everything that has made it unique aside the combat system as underwater and WVW are woefully neglected.
So no reason to squander away any more uniqueness.
If there going to shift to a more traditional game as they have with the introduction of raids then a competing game would only need to hit the basics.
To create a full on carbon copy of other MMOs in GW2 too? Gotcha.

I have honestly NEVER heard of that game until now, and I’m usually quite informed about intersting upcoming games. The fact that you are speaking in possibilities does not confer a lot of confidence that your formentioned game might even apply to your argument. GW2 is not only it’s combat system (which is slowly becoming dated), it’s the summ of all it’s part from monetisation, combat, lore and much more. If GW2 combat system is the only thing keeping you in this game, I’d argue your not part of a crowd worth fighting for.
So why not we need mounts because they sit in a happy medium between universally desired things like templates and odd things like reinventing the movement wheel.
You enjoy jumping back and forth between arguing against redundencies when you oppose them, then argue for redundencies when it suits you. This isn’t the first topic you are all over the place with your argumentation. It gets very frustrating having to disscuss something when the opposite side doesn’t stick to 1 line of argumentation.
ooor maybe that leak was just all lies in order to make people buy the mushrooms so the leak OP can make profit

If the leak is a hoax, it’s pretty darn elaborate. They have screen shots of fully rendered 3D models of mounts.
So either:
A) Someone photoshopped mounts from other games to fake this.
B) Someone fully modelled 3D creature mounts to fake this.
C) It’s legit.
“A” is possible, but if that’s the case then show me what game that giant rabbit mount is from.
“B” is highly unlikely. No one would go through that much effort for a hoax, especially when option A is 9000% easier.
“C” is looking pretty likely now isn’t it?
Well if you implement mounts, the game should be created with that in mind. Which means that the maps should be more open, town hubs etc farer away from each other etc. And with these wide, open maps you need lots of small secrets/stuff to fill them.
So to put it short I think if mounts are implemented in the next expansion then they should go full on mounts, reducing fast travel significantly and designing the the maps in that regards.

Mounts are a cap on redundancies else they’ll keep reinventing the wheel nonstop. You’ve only played post Vivendi games WoW so that’s understandable but the hate is torwards flying mounts due to players flying over each other destroying community and giving the appearance of a dead game. Akin to what we see with HoT maps and gliding of people on different levels never seeing each other. After seeing elite specialization screens I beleive the leaks are real and mounts are indeed coming.
Also to make any point one needs examples both internal and external along with historic context and possible interactions with the topic on hand.
Unpopular opinion: If that leak turns out to be true, and mounts are now added to GW2, it makes me rather sad.

my fault
didnt actually see those other leaked pictures until just now
only saw that first reddit topic with just text and without any evidence

The new maps look pretty huge. Some nearly twice as big as Malchor’s Leap.
The thing is if the map is twice as big, and you move twice as fast (on the mount) then nothing has changed… You still get from A to B at the same rate. Do the math. I don’t know why people ever thought mounts were necessary. It’s a gimmick to sell expansion copies to superficial flavor of the month MMO tourists.
Whatever… If it works, then good for Anet. I just hope it doesn’t ruin the game the way flying mounts did for WoW.
I hope the leaks are real stuff and we’re getting mounts. If you don’t like them, don’t use them, problem solved.
Unpopular opinion: If that leak turns out to be true, and mounts are now added to GW2, it makes me rather sad.
I don’t think your opinion is unpopular, at least not around here. It seems like the people who love it are on reddit.
Judging by the abilities it sounds like mounts are going to be required to traverse the terrain using leaps and… mount gliding i guess? There might even be some limited combat abilities on the mounts… I just hope this junk is restricted to the new zones… Imagine taking a high speed raptor mount through Queensdale jumping over cliffs and stuff. Get from one side of Queensdale to the other in 30 seconds. Make the vanilla world feel half as big as it used to be… Sigh…
I’m also not fond of the idea that I’ll be seeing an Asura running along and they pop a giant kangaroo/rabbit thing out of their backside and go bouncing off into the sunset. Like seriously, where is the mount going to go when you aren’t riding it? Nowhere. It’s going to poof out of nothing when you summon it. And now imagine a zerg of 100 players poofing 100 mounts out of thin air all at the same time. That’s the future of GW2.
I’ll probably be quitting the game when they announce full-fledged flying mounts for expansion 3…
Super Adventure Mount Skins Anet, please, thank you! You have 11 months to get them done.
So many great Super Adventure choices for mounts! I want to ride a bee-dog, turtle, snake, hillbilly and maybe an angry cloud.
I hope the leaks are real stuff and we’re getting mounts. If you don’t like them, don’t use them, problem solved.
Yeah! I’ll just not use my [insert item that is required gameplay mechanics]. That’s a brilliant idea!
I hope it’s real! The mounts look great and will be fun in my opinion.

If they arent real someone went through like… real development work just to fake it, lol. I am usually negative, but I think its real.
The question is, are these a general addition or will it just be a straight up replacement to gliders in the new zones (with some poor excuse that gliding doesnt work there)…
If it is general (available in existing zones together with HoT/vanilla accounts) I guess a couple of things:
- Its probably not going to be faster than running. Maybe an easy way to get the eqvivalent of perma swiftness.
- Combat will more than likely be token as classes are much stronger on foot.
- Not gonna happen for WvW. Ever.
Gliders are great. Mounts will be great. If we get flying mounts in XPack 3 or 4 or whenever they will be great too.
Seriously, what’s not to like about any of it? Game can’t stand still and shouldn’t.
Mounts would likely be confined to the expansion maps if the rumors are true. I can’t see them adding them to other areas as that could cause more issues than gliding.
