Must fail event for precursor collection?
Unfortunately it’s the same with some other collections like Twilight (failing Orr events). I hope Anet fixes it soon!
So, I like collections. I like precursors. I got interested in The Moot.
Target: Giant Shark Tooth from the Giant Shark in Timberline Falls.
After failed search going to the wiki. Wiki says we must fail not just one, but two consecutive events, in order for the Giant Shark to spawn?!?!
What is this? After all complaints about people farming failed events in Orr talk about events should be done as intended? And then there is a Anet design forcing us to fail events?
Please tell me the wiki is wrong and there is Another way to get that Shark to spawn?
The issue with people perpusply failing the Orr event was that it would block people from making progress and would just repeat the event.
With this event a fail doesn’t make it reset and repeat it instead branches off to other events.

But in this case, in order to progress you have to fail the event not once, but twice in a row in order to get the proper event for the collection to start. So those ignorant of the collection or just playing how they want to play may cause the event to succeed that first time or that second time, thwarting the player’s attempts to get the shark event to spawn for the drop. Which halts that player’s progress.
The reason for the division in the players is different, but the effects are the same. Players getting upset at others for playing how they want to play when both are within the rules (you can’t say it’s against the rules to fail an event on purpose when ANet puts collection items or trait unlocks or whatever behind failing an event).
Yeah, this is definitely the kind of thing that should have been caught.
Having events that branch off at failure rather than repeating indefinitely is a good thing. Splitting the motivations for the players by putting something highly desirable on one branch is a very bad idea.
Coming soon…you must fail Octovine in order to get Legendary Armor! Come on south…start pushing those bombs sideways!
I wonder when Anet will finally get it through their heads that locking things behind failing events does nothing but promote toxic hateful environments for players.
It’s like they want that or something.
Yea, if I was unclear it’s not really the branching out I mind. In fact, I think it’s great that failer or succeeded events lead to different results.
It’s the promotion of failing events that shocks me.
In the case of this one the Quaggans almost win just by themselves. I have been there watching the event several timeds, for well over 15 minutes each time, just to see a random player come along and finishing of a win – and that’s just the first step. You need two consecutive failed events…
Everytime me, and other players waiting, has asked in both map chat and direct whispers when someone comes Close to not make the event succeed. I use “please” and try to explain why I want it to fail.
I also try to not blame those random players too much even though they don’t answer to my whispers. After all, they only do what should come natural in the game – and they might not see – or understand my attempt at English.
I know for a fact not all even try to be polite any longer. It IS very frustrating. I have had random players apologize afterwards when they understand but I can’t really blame them – and I don’t even want them to feel bad because the see an event and join in to win it…
If there really is no other way to make that Giant Shark spawn this surely must be an overlaps by Anet? If I can’t even make myself think this is the intended behaviour Anet wants…

This thread made me laugh. Another reason I won’t recommend GW2 to people I know.
The event system was never designed to accommodate all of the things that have been piggybacked on it. Yet ANet seems to keep repeating the same mistake despite ample proof that it IS a mistake.
Without those piggyback riders the system was fine. It didn’t matter so much that many escort events are bugged (and have been since before launch) because you could just shrug and go do something else. Events would fail “naturally” when the map population dropped or everyone was off doing some bigger event. (For example, the Coops event in Malchor’s would generally fail if it came up while a temple event was in progress.) Life was good, except for some conflict between farmers and those who wanted to do temple defense events for whatever reason.
But then they added collectible items to vendors that only appear for a short time at the end of events that they knew were buggy. They added trait unlocks to events that they knew were buggy. Suddenly a minor irritation became a major frustration and a serious impediment to progress. They also added collectible items to temple assault events, exacerbating the conflict between players in Orr by creating an even bigger gap between the rewards of an assault vs. a defense.
We howled about all this at the time. It is beyond belief that the devs did not and do not realize how big a blunder they had made. Yet, they not only continued down that path with the new collections, they made it worse in three ways. First, by creating demand to “please let that event fail” for branching events that were previously of no concern. Second, by creating demand not to let ANY events go undone by the new map-reward farm trains, making them resistant to any request to let an event fail. Third, by tying collections to even MORE events that have been bugging out since before launch (e.g., Bauxite Alchemicals).
Holy frijoles! How could anyone with at least the brains nature gave to clams look at the proposal to do these things and not see a train wreck in the making?

So I’ve killed the shark like ten times, and I still haven’t looted the tooth. Is this event not only hard to get started but also has the chance to not drop the item?
How many times do i have to kill it before its tooth drops?
killed it again and still no drop.
If you want to prove you’re worthy of membership of the toxic community in Warcraft, go right ahead.
So I’ve killed the Giant Shark 3 times and still no Giant Shark Tooth drop.. Has anyone actually gotten it?
Also in the collection, when you hover over Giant Shark Tooth it’s suppose to tell you a hint of where to find the piece but mines is “Hint: ((635979))”
I didn’t see this post when I was searching the forums and created my own thread suggesting possible solutions. Feel free to enter the discussion so we can get some eyes on the issue.
Flameseeker has one at Nebo terrace that requires capture point failing that any low lvl can solo. Why the hell do i have to try and convince every passer by not to kill enemy mobs? 2 days and im still trying for this stupid thing
Here is a thread you might want to post on. (Warning: the dev who started it is actually posting on reddit so you might want to go over there. There’s no guarantee he is reading this thread on this forum).
