My Predictions for Specializations
My predictions from the thread in the expansion subforum:
My guesses for some Specializations.
First one is obvious.
- Necromancer/Deathknight – Uses Greatswords to slaughter enemies, and applies lots of crowd control.
Second one is mostly speculation, but makes sense to me. Devs have been trying to get Guardians into a more offensive place (Litany of Wrath for example.)
- Guardian/Crusader – Uses Longbows as its new weapon, and applies protection and aegis to allies from afar. Applies might and fury to him/herself and allies.
A little far fetched, but I can see the pact training Elementalists into hardened soldiers for dealing with Mordremoth’s minions.
- Elementalist/Battlemage – Uses swords as its new weapon. It imbues allies with the power of the elements.
They could easily give guardian a land spear, make it a ranged weapon, and boom… there’s your paragons.
Tanky warrior would be cool (pure tank, not paladin-like archetype guardian we have now)
I’m thinking Elementalist being something like Gene Starwind from Outlaw Star.
Caster anyone? Spell Guns (PISTOLS)!!
PLEASE SAY YES!!!
I can see rangers getting a sniper specialization, allowing them to use rifles. I’m hoping they get a marksman/sharpshooter/archer spec that allows them to ditch the pet in exchange for more personal damage output.

Or give them “evolved” pet, that has better abilities? That would be fun too
If druids are tree worshippers, and my druid is a sylvari, am I then a tree worshipping tree?
mind blown

Well, Sylvari is more of a bush… So maybe a bush worshiping tree for it let some sun light in for photosynthesis?
Thief = Rogue getting Longbows and the second if there will be two from begin on being Saboteur, getting Maces
Assassin, please.
Deathknight wont be a specialisation.
Deathknight wont be a specialisation.
Regardless of what it’s called, Necro’s are getting greatswords.
/gasp
Necromancer + Twilight = Lord of the Night. I know what toon I’m rolling next!

Will never happen, as they have always said from begin on, that the Ranger will be a strong nature influenced class, that makes no usage of technology.
A Crossbow instead as a kind of New Weapon Category is something different again.
But for sure that Specialization won’t be name something like “Sniper”
This is Guild Wars 2 and not Counter Strike 2
So I guess a Specialization named Hunter, Scout, Strider or Trapper is alot more fitting for that.
And I guess all Specializations will have more or less to do with Pets, as the Druid used also in the Announcement a Wolf Pet at his side.
But if there will be more Specializations for all classes in the future, I hope Rangers will see in the end something like a max of 5 Specializations, like all other Classes too with something in the end like this:
Ranger
- Druid = Nature Magic Specialization
- Hunter = Marksmanship Specialization
- Trapper = Wilderness Survival Specialization
- Strider = Skirmishing Specilization
- Scout = Beast Mastery Specialization
I think thats a good working concept for Specializations to give all Classes 1 Specialization per Main Class Attribute.
I’m thinking Elementalist being something like Gene Starwind from Outlaw Star.
Caster anyone? Spell Guns (PISTOLS)!!
PLEASE SAY YES!!!
play wildstar, thats exactly what the spellslinger is

for my elementalist i wish she get second spec “germanys next top model” ^^
I’ll lose my kitten if there’s a ranger specialization that allows you to summon two pets at the same time. Or mix-and-match pet abilities. Or use underwater pets above ground.
Really hope there’s a mastery built around the pet.
Main hand shield? The kitten? In no way does that sound interesting.
I’d laugh so hard at dualwield shields ;-)
I suspect a specialization that removes ranger pet. I don’t agree with it but its strong possibility so people finnaly shut up about it. Oddly id imagine such a spec being a beastmaster. Instead of one stupid pet you get weapon skills that summon pets. Kinda like hunters call where you don’t actually summon minions but just affects that display cosmetic pets in animation.
Revenant = Crusader and if theres another Specialization, then I could see also for them something working like Marauder
I can’t see Revenant’s having a specialization named Crusader; it’d be themed around spirits, so names like Ritualist, Shaman, Channeler, Communer etc.
I could also see thieves having a Sniper specialization; Snipers already exist in the game.
I could imagine Crusader being a specialisation for Warriors or Guardians though.
Time is a river.
The door is ajar.
Ritualists, Shamans and the like are no “Soldiers”.. this makes no sense DaiBish.
You may not forget, that the Class that you have at the end will still be a soldier in heavy plated armor.
However, nothing of this is set in stone, I’ll rearrange names a bit under my concept in mind of each Class getting 1 Specialization per Attribute.
With Ranger being written down already above.
Here is what i could see also working for the other Professions:
Thief
- Scoundrel = Deadly Arts Specialization
- Rogue = Critical Strikes Specialization
- Infiltrator = Shadow Arts Specialization
- Brawler = Acrobatics Specialization
- Saboteur = Trickery Specialization
Engineer
- Inventor = Inventions Specilization
- Alchemist = Alchemy Specialization
- Pioneer = Firearms Specialization
- Technician = Tools Specialization
- Grenadier = Explosives Specilization
Necromancer
- Witcher = Curses Specialization
- Ritualist = Blood Magic Specialization
- Visionary = Death Magic Specialization
- Theurgist = Soul Reaping Specialization
- Bellicist = Spite Specilization
Mesmer
- Bard = Inspiration Magic Specilization
- Chronomancer = Illusions Specialization
- Mentalist = Chaos Specialization
- Fencer = Duelling Specialization
- Psionist = Domination Specialization
Elementalist
- Arcanist = Arcana Specialization
- Pyromancer = Fire Magic Specialization
- Hydromancer = Water Magic Specialization
- Aeromancer = Air Magic Specialization
- Geomancer = Earth Magic Specialization
Warrior
- Berserker = Strength Specialization
- Legionnaire = Tactics Specialization
- Mercenary = Arms Specialization
- Partisan = Defense Specialization
- Crusader = Discipline Specialization
Guardian
- Patron = Valor Specialization
- Augmentor = Radiance Specialization
- Templar = Honor Specialization
- Inquisitor = Virtues Specialization
- Mystic = Zeal Specialization

This sounds soooooooo good
Guardian = Patron getting Main Hand Shields and if theres another Specialization, then also Augmentor getting Longbows
The previous thread about getting warhorns as “Guardian gear” from log-in rewards and this video hint that they’ll get warhorns.
I predict that Staff Bear rangers will overtake Bow bears in uselessness for instanced content and next to that will be shield mesmer with no feedback of course.
Supposedly, each class is getting only 1 spec so far. I wonder how many they’ll add to each class though. In other MMO’s, it’s usually 3.
This was obviously a throwback to GW1’s secondary professions.

Why does it make no sense for Ritualist or Shaman to be specialisations for a profession that channels spirits? Outside the whole ‘but they don’t wear heavy armour’ thing.
It makes more sense than Crusader or Marauder. Marauder would make more sense for Thief. Crusader would make more sense for Guardian.
Finally, we’re not talking about base professions here; we’re talking about profession specializations.
Since we don’t know more about the classes of skills the Revenant has yet outside of ‘channeling spirits’, Shaman could easily be a specialisation for a support path of skills.

The door is ajar.
I feel guardians are the closest to gw1-style ritualist combining shackled spirits and summoned (enchanted) weapons. I could totally see them going more into that direction.
But let’s just put out a list here (tried to only use existing weapons):
- Elementalist -> Summoner (Warhorn), Arcanist (Greatsword)
- Mesmer -> Chronomancer, Psion, Dreamweaver, Spellbinder (any of them with Shield or Dagger)
- Necromancer -> Demonologist (Torch), Warlock/Nightstalker (Greatsword)
- Thieves -> maybe Sniper (Rifle), Samurai (Greatsword)
- Engineer -> Alchemist (Scepter), Juggernaut (Hammer)
- Ranger -> Druid (Staff), Bard (Scepter or Focus)
- Guardian -> Ritualist (Warhorn), Inquisitor (Dagger)
- Warrior -> Barbarian (Melee Non-Magical Staff)
- Revenant -> Runemaster, Seer/Shaman

Asura: “You asked it about its mother!”

Surprised I haven’t seen it mentioned
Ranger – hammer
Elementalist: my first thought was…
-Arcanist (Arcana magic and…maybe torch? glacial-torch would be interesting)
- Summoner (with warhorn)
- Battle Mage (witch mace or sword – but I doubt it. Battle mage with light armour? nah)
Mesmer: Hypnotist sounds great for him – with warhorm, fear, confusion and not much dmg. Imagine skill forcing your enemy to attack his ally instead you – great for pvp and wvw

actually explosives line would be Sapper or Breacher would make more sense
I’m thinking warhorn for elementalist called “stormcaller,” where the elementalist calls up element associated storms. It’s already in the lore. That, or arcanist with a fifth skill set in addition to fire, water, air, and earth.
I really like that idea someone mentioned here with main hand shield ^^
[dual shield the most trolling build – so much blocks stuns and dazes ^^]

As a Ranger, I, with an army of rangers just behind me;
There needs to be an opportunity where we move away from this nature rubbish and make our skirmishing ways of our weapons, getting closer to the “steampunk-ish” world and grooving up to be equal with Warriors.!!
= Keep this in Mind =

As a ranger with another army of rangers just behind me:
We need to improve our wilderness and nature skill to prove that this way is better than all those steampunk in the other side of the world and use it to be equal or even better than warriors!!!

And you’ll have that for sure, but the other half of Rangers still expect what I’ve said above…

The specialisations change your class traitline (the bottom one) iirc
And you’ll have that for sure, but the other half of Rangers still expect what I’ve said above…
the point was that everyone than make such calls to support any argument – but it means nearly nothing
because everyone knows that none of us knows “half of the ranger players” not mentioning representing them in the matter of how class should look like

source or didn’t happeened :P

I think Engineer is getting hammer like the torchlight 2 engineer. I hope that Necro gets longbow and becomes a witch, I can see sword / shield for battlemage on elementalist and ranger is of course getting druid, but for the rest I’m not so sure… If spear became a land weapon that could make for a lot of cool classes, maybe Deathknight for one of the heavy armor classes, throw-able spears for Ranger, Oh! Give Mesmer main hand pistol for some sort of Shadowgunner class. Have Thieves get land spears called Acrobats. I really think Guardian should have a monk specialization, maybe make it light armor and have different weapon skills for scepter, focus, torch and staff.
Well for sure we are only getting one added class per class and revent but it dose sound like over time we will see a steam of these being added to the game. I want to say a lot of the specialization is going to be aimed at making classes fit more into the 3 class type system. So most will be tankly or support seeing how we have good dmg. That is if we are getting a raiding system.
Guild : OBEY (The Legacy) I call it Obay , TLC (WvW) , UNIV (other)
Server : FA
So basicly, at part of Rangers:
We’re the so-called “unparelled Archers” with such average capabilities, but we’re not supposed to make it better in the future…
Lame or just Ridiculous? You’r call.
@ Lord Trejgon.2809: If you’ve been reading the Ranger subforum for at least a year, you would know that I’m right, furthermore, it does mean something.
“A man chooses; a slave obeys.” | “Want HardMode? Play Ranger!”
I’d prefer a hunter with either a spear or some sortof poison blowdarts
hopefully revenant gains longbow as a weapon to go with the zen archery thing
The new Guardian specialization will be…

I clearly disagree with you here.
A Sapper is nothing else than what I suggest with what the word “Sapper” derived from > PIONEER.
http://www.dict.cc/englisch-deutsch/sapper.html
http://www.dict.cc/?s=Pionier
Your Sapper is just a more military used form of word for Pioneer, while Pioneer in itself is what I think directly on, when I think about Engineers, that invent new firearms and test them out successfully, which are to be found with their special weapons at the front lines to wreck havoc with them there, plus it sounds in my opinion also much nicer, like something advanced, that comes frombeing an Engineer
And Breacher is no profession at all, this word doesn’t even exist as a noun, just “to breach”, which means simply breaking things and absolutely makes no sense in regard of engineers.
But thats about opinions, they can and will always differ in regard of what people find as profession names fitting or not.
Basicly I don’t believe that forum community makes representative group
You’re right, I’ve should been also wrote to speak with rangers around Tyria.
It gives me a really clear point what’s needed for loooong time.
“A man chooses; a slave obeys.” | “Want HardMode? Play Ranger!”
They have confirmed that each class will only have one specialization at release. It is possible that more will be available in the future, but that is merely speculation.
And this won’t be enough. We need far more than currently available.
Some says “be happy for what you get”, but AN overhyped our expectations by long shot.
I mean, we, the customers began to overgrown their capabilities.
“A man chooses; a slave obeys.” | “Want HardMode? Play Ranger!”
Honestly, I would love main hand shield!!!! The only problem is there is an offhand shield
So shield/shield warrior would be a thing. . . And amazing
Quaggan has been trying and trying, but Quaggan cannot sit on chair.
Quaggan does not think sitting exists. . .Quaggan sad.
As a warrior I don’t get why I would even want to walk around with two shields. ( The one shield I use is more than enough ) I’d vote for main hand pistol for warriors.
