Hey there,

We do encourage our developers to interact with players, but primarily here, on the forums. When we’re in game, it’s typically because we’re there to play and not as much to chat. We encourage you to post your feedback and ask questions here on the forums. If you’re looking for a more direct interaction, keep an eye out for the next Collaborative Development (CDI) thread. This sticky links to previous CDI threads, so you can get a feel for them and will link to the active CDI thread, when ones comes available. If the next CDI thread is WvW or PvP, you’ll want to check out the stickies in those sections (linked from within that post).

Yes Nar, I am, one and the same.

Mark, I’ve tried repeatedly on the forums to get a reply and have even chatted with Izzy directly a couple times about the dailies and how completionist players like myself feel like it’s too much. To date, none of the CDI’s have really fit that category well enough for me to want to post there. Lots of us have even come up with really viable, helpful, and fair solutions to it. I guess I would just like to know how the AP team feels about it and hopefully get some insight on how much longer I “have to” slave away every day. Thank you for the reply though.

Personally I like being able to pick and choose among the variety of dailies we have in order to get the chest for the day… many days I’m getting three, four, even all five in WvW, others get while playing around in a little PvE… and if I wish to get more than the current five I have that option as well for additional APs.

This is a good system.

But I want to give you hugs and cake? Do you not want cake? Though come to think of it, I’ve never seen Anet people on JQ. I’ve seen you guys on other servers (even as enemies in WvW). Seen you while guesting on Tarnished Coast. But no JQ….

Ah, but don’t worry I don’t actually want to harass you guys in-game. I figure you are running around playing.

At this time last year, players were complaining because the 5 daily achievements every day forced you to play the way Anet wants you to. So Anet expanded the number of different achievements you could do, but left the number to complete your daily and get the reward at 5.

Now, a year later, people are complaining that there are too much to do? Could you explain that logic to me?

Now as for this dailies thing. I actually like the large choice is dailies. But I’m not a completionist. I’m someone who just likes knocking the daily out and it’s nice having choices. I greatly disliked how it was before when we had no choices for dailies and monthlies.

The achievement system is working fine for me. In the past it was a pain, but being able to pick and choose makes it much better now.

I have actually had the pleasure of playing with a few devs in the past. I teamed up with 2 of them right after launch and all 3 of us had our butts handed to us by a champ. It was very funny listening to them chat about “who programmed this thing” etc.

This is the same bogus arguments that are completely irrelevant to my problem that I continually get in other threads, and proposed solutions would keep things equally easy for you normal players and make them tremendously easier for myself and fellow AP hunters. I’m not trying to take away choice, I’m trying to reduce grind.
@Tomlin: I never said or implied my ideas were more important, but I’ve been trying to get them across for 2 months now, after thinking about them for far longer.
@Spiky: My “best” or anyone else’s “best” shouldn’t simply be another /age function. Achievement points right now are simply who spends the most time in game, and I don’t think it should be that way.

I think what the OP is getting at is that they think there should be a cap on the daily achievements. There could still be 20 different ways to do the daily, but you would only get points for the 5 of them for you complete for the daily. I myself was an achievement hunter, but I started finding I was no longer enjoying the game as I was too busy doing achievements for the sake of the points vs playing the game for fun so I decided to make a change. Which seems to be the OP’s issue.

However something the OP may not realize is that by limiting daily achievements for players you are essentially stopping anyone from catching the people at the top of the ranks, unless those at the top stop playing completely. So you are just making it easier for the achievement hunters to stay on top, while penalizing other players. Why should an achievement hunter stay at the top of the ranks if they only log in for 5 min to do a capped version of dailies, while the person who plays for 8 hours will never catch them. If someone wants to stay on the leaderboard they should have to put the time in.

Turning the dailies into a meta like the LS ones would be ideal imo. Have all the dailies worth 0AP and then reward 10 or so AP in the chest that has your coin/karma/luck/laurel already. With this system you folks that like to do them all in WvW can still do that(I probably would most days too) and AP hunters like myself and the rest of the top100 can relax and enjoy the game like we did at launch. Every day I do all the PvE achieves and 6/8 (or more if I have time) of the PvP avchieves, so already I don’t realistically see anyone catching up to me unless I stop playing altogether. So for someone to catch up, they’ll have to do the same or more work than me. With my idea in place, the same would still be true. A common argument to this being “Well what if I want more points in a day to push up to my next achievement reward?” Honestly I would love to push points up to 20k and get my next title but there’s already a hard cap on daily AP. Today it was 21. With the new LS it might be 22. Or 23. But those 21-23 points take, in most cases, several hours. There are easier and more rewarding ways to boost your AP. Do a JP you haven’t done. Or a dungeon. Or some activity achievement. There are, like all of you say, other options. Other choices. My choice is to enjoy GW2 as a completionist, as best as I can. My aim is to simply make it easier for us AP hunters and affect other players as little as possible.

The less room there is for people to excel and move up, the less meaningful the leaderboard itself is. Anyone who actually wants the leaderboard to be meaningful should want MORE dailies, more achieveable points than any person could reasonably run through in the allotted time. That way, it becomes about who wants to work harder for it, who takes the most strategic approach to it, rather than just who’s been playing the longest.

Thing is we want a leaderboard less depending on daily and monthly crap and more focus on permanent achievements, preferable even of Liadri or higher difficulty. More dailies will just make it a competition who can bear it the longest without burning out.

That doesn’t make for a competitive leaderboard. As it is, anyone who was around for earlier content is already heavily advantaged. If anything, an active, meaningful leaderboard would be better served by a periodic reset (like say, at the living story changes), and inclusion of only temporarily available achievement points, and of course, like I said before, the inclusion of way more achievement points than could realistically be attained in the given time period.

i still like the idea of being able to complete 2+ dailies worth of in 1 day…. as other games have done.. can just make it a weekly and it stacks like the monthly however at the end of the weekly you dont get anything bonus since its only a combination of the 7 days that would of been each daily. eg; instead of the 50 kills in 1 day, make it 600 kill in the week and the reward is the same amount of AP you would of gotten from doing a daily 50 kills each day..

That way for those with OCD like myself that need to do everything!! can do so at a nice pace rather than rush like a animal in the 1 day to which leaves less time for dung/fracs/LS/etc…

Most ppl will argue, if it takes you longer than 30 mins to complete the daily then your doing it wrong blah blah blah – read! i said a nice pace!!!

Yeah, seriously. I NEVER got the monthly done before they made the change giving us choices. Now I’m always able to get it done. That’s one change that was for the better.

For anyone serious about monthlies, they want to care less about them and knock them off quicker so they don’t feel left behind if they’re ignored, and then the end of the month comes around and there’s this sudden compulsion to drop everything and complete monthly before it no longer counts. Therefore, most people doing monthlies are getting them done is around 4 days. Why? Because Anet has allowed them to.

Monthlies should be about getting something done within the period of that month, and not have it act like some kind of intrusion into your normal gameplay. That way it flows along with whatever it is you do. I know many players already do this for their monthly achieves and care a lot less about if they get the monthly done at all.

I like the suggestions about the weekly achieves, and have each one tailored to how you play the game, kind of how the daily works. That way you can finish up the weekly and get a reward chest for your participation and be pleasantly surprised that you got it, all from doing what you’d normally do (PvP / PvE / WvW).

Your intentions sounds good. No one is debating that.

The Problem with your idea is that suddenly limiting achievement points when getting daily’s will limit players ability to get more Achievement Points. This is probably made worse by the fact that a rather large fraction of many people’s achievement points (including your own) come from daily achievements. If, instead of 21 seperate achievement points, your idea says that you can only ever get 5 or whatever limit Anet sets, that means you and anyone else in the top 100 (…top 1,000) automatically have an unfair advantage over every other player in the game. And many people with 10,000+ AP have already completed every jumping puzzle, dungeon, story mission, almost all slayer achievements. There is nothing they can do to catch up to you. You guys can relax as you said, and keep your reign atop the leaderboards while millions of other players will never be able to catch up.

To that, and you whole suggestion, I don’t just say no. I say heck no! If you want to stay on top of the AP leaderboard, then you should be spending several hours a day in order to make it so. It shouldn’t be some cakewalk activity that you get to do at the same pace as everyone else, ensuring that they never catch up. It is your own fault that you are getting burned out spending hours a day getting every last achievement point so you can stay atop the leaderboard. It is no fault of the game or the design of the system itself.

That, sir, is a wonderful idea.

I’m kind of in the same boat as you but I do generally draw the line at WvW daily achievements most days.

Thing to consider too is that the daily achievement isn’t necessarily the “whole daily”. There are also daily gathering nodes, daily ascended crafting, and if you wanted to take daily stuff to even more of an extreme there are boss and dungeon daily reward chests too.

I’m OK with the daily achievements as they are now, if I don’t always do the WvW and PvP stuff. Certainly would welcome the implementation of an idea such as that quoted though.

Just like the topic of Ewon from the old suggestions forum, non-completionnist people like some who posted here already dont understand the problem and think we, ap hunters, want to stay at the top without efforts. That is not the problem here, the suggestions that have been brought to make it better for everyone, dont even affect non-completionnists and reduce the very grindy aspect of hunting for AP. How is that affect you folks ?

It’s a simple fact that it requires way too much time to complete all. When you go for those extra achievement points, you dont have much time left to actually play contents that you would like to do. The problem of the daily gradually increased as they added more dailies, then dailies for each new living stories to complete the related meta achievements, but still, it was doable in decent amount of time. The really big troubles came with the december update and the new pvp dailies which triple/quadrupled the amount of time required to complete all the dailies related to the pvp. How is that normal to have to spend more time to do 1 full pvp daily than a monthly pvp ?

So please, dont just turn down the completionnists with simple WRONG ideas like we want to stay forever on the leaderboard or we should play even more to keep our position, that is not the problem here.

While all this matters little to myself, it seems there are those that are tired of grinding dailies for hours a day to stay on top of the achievement board, while there are others that would still like a chance to catch up.

As I see it, the only fair solution that has been mentioned is to cap the total AP you can accumulate from dailies and monthlies regardless of how long you have been playing. You would never again get AP from dailies after you hit this cap. Now how high this cap would be is another discussion which I leave to those to whom this really matters.

As you can see, I do not agree with this:

Turning the dailies into a meta like the LS ones would be ideal imo. Have all the dailies worth 0AP and then reward 10 or so AP in the chest that has your coin/karma/luck/laurel already.

While I do believe the current system spoils the fun for achievement hunters who want to accomplish goals rather than just grind dailies, it would not be fair to introduce some kind of cap to how much AP can be earned daily from dailies (eg. 10AP per day) since newer players would never be able to catch up no matter how hard they try, which is even worse than the current system. If this had been implemented from the start it would have been fair, but sadly it is too late now. But even if it had been implemented from the start, it would still give a large advantage to people who have played longer, and one could wonder whether AP is meant show accomplishment of different feats or just be a less passive equivalent of /age.

So please, dont just turn down the completionnists with simple WRONG ideas like we want to stay forever on the leaderboard or we should play even more to keep our position, that is not the problem here.

Any changes to the achievement point system affects completionists and non-completionists. A.Net has been expanding the available dailies so that regardless of what you like to do, you can get your dailies in, get your AP up, and have a good time doing it, without having to feel like you’re working through content that you don’t want to do. The greater number of available dailies and the associated AP with them allows players, especially those who started later, to push for a few more AP a day, while shooting for various goals, such as that next 500 point mark for a skin, or perhaps to gain some ground on the leaderboard.

Anything that reduces the number of dailies that count towards AP, or that are even available inevitably reduces competition on the leaderboard. What would benefit the game, and people who actually want a competitive leaderboard, is MORE options for the dailies, so many more than it would be impossible to do them all in one day. That way it becomes not only who wants to work harder, but who is able to plan more strategically and accomplish the most within a limited amount of time.

Simple rule of thumb; when you see an A.net tag in game…

1) Say hello if you wish. They don’t turn it on for kittens and giggles. They don’t mind talking.
2) Don’t be insulting, spiteful, insipid or rude.
3) Ask them how they are doing.
4) Don’t be insulting, spiteful, insipid or rude.
5) If a dialogue forms from it, THEN you can ask questions, give your thoughts.
6) Don’t be insulting, spiteful, insipid or rude.
7) Find yourself amazed that it’s a real person behind the tag, and at the very least isn’t going out of their way to ruin your day or your gaming experience.
8) Say goodbye… and then discover they’ve popped you on their friend’s list.
9) Don’t be insulting, spiteful, insipid or rude… but that’s just for general advice towards all social interaction now.

If the daily/monthly/repeatable achievement stuff wont be changed many achievement hunters will move to TESO. Similar achievement point system to GW2 but no dailies or other repeatable crap. Exactly what a true achievement hunter desires.

1st person worldwide to reach 35,000 achievement points.

Enjoy your new game then! A lot of people benefit from the dailies and the “repeatable crap.”

Filling a daily task list each and every day is not an achievement, its a 2nd job. The WvW achievements and rank achievements in PvP will be nerfed to realistic levels in a future patch, its already announced. So I dont see why there cant be an adjustment to the way daily/monthly achievements work.
I wouldnt even mind some sort of ingame time machine to retroactively complete living story achievements. Its a fantasy game so it should be doable for Anet.

I hate to shatter your bubble, but very few of the achievements are actually achievements. Killing X number of enemies, X number of monsters, using a weapon X number of times, those aren’t “achievements,” just measurements of how long you’ve been playing the game. Don’t even get me started on Hall of Monuments achievements. Really the only true “achievements” by any definition of the word the one time completion things like jumping puzzles, some of the things in the explorer tabs, the first pass through each dungeon. Of course, anyone who really wants to can complete all that stuff can likely do it all in under a month.

Also, since you brought it up, your current AP is 18845, of which you mentioned almost 8000 of which is from dailies, and I’m guessing another 2000+ of which is from monthlies. I’m currently sitting sitting at about 9500 AP, but I’ve only got about 2000 points from dailies, and only about 800 from monthlies, and I’m guessing A LOT of players are just like me. If there were no dailies, that massive lead you’re showing off and making a big deal of would be much much smaller.

Some people don’t want points for dailies or want dailies to be limited in points, some people want all the points they can get from the dailies. The easiest way I can think of pleasing both sides is to reward the same points we currently get for completing all dailies, just by completing 5 dailies. Once you have your 5 dailies done, the rest gain no points, so there is no need to do them. But you will get the equivalant points as if you did do them all. Though for this to work the number of dailies required may need to be increased slightly.

Also, if you continue to do them, you still gain certain benefits. For example, say you do gathering, kill variety, ambient kills, veteran kills and revives, you will get the maximum daily achievement points possible, but what if you also want to do the LS daily to advance your LS achievement? If you do your dailies before you get to do the LS daily, you should still be able to get the point to advance the LS achievements, but gain no achievement points from the LS daily itself. If that makes sense. So achievement hunters, who will no doubt be doing the LS achievments anyway, can easily get their dailies done and the non-achievement hunters can still benefit from doing the dailies.

Another adjustment I would like to see done to the dailies, to improve them even more, it to remove the rotation and instead have all available dailies available every day. That way it doesn’t matter what you do each day, you can earn the dailies achievement points by doing the things YOU want to do, without having to divert off your path and do something else just to finish your daily.

I know the dailies are varied and often allow you to complete them quickly, but very rarely are there 5 things I like to do each day or 5 things I do naturally in my normal play. But then I guess part of the problem is that Anet is trying to encourage players to do different things in the game, partly to teach them and partly to get players experiencing more of the game. The problem with this is though, is that once a player has done all these things a few times, they will quickly learn what aspects of the game they enjoy and will get bored of the things they don’t. But they will still need to do those things to get the laurels, etc.

So, I would like to see a system that allows you to complete your dailies, by doing what YOU want to do, and once you get 5 (or more if necessary) dailies done you cannot gain any more daily achievement points. But you can still progress the LS achievement by completing LS dailies.

I hope that makes sense.

Simplicity is complex.

Good feedback is key to getting the developers to listen to you.

What about removing achievement points for dailies and monthlies? This would lower everyone’s APs considerably (and so might require a tweaking of the AP chest system), but would ensure those that want to max their AP don’t have grind dailies and would give others a chance to get on the leaderboards.

Not sure those at the top would like this solution though…

It’s only a second job if you choose to make it so. Some days I’ll get minimal requirements for the daily, others I’ll come real close to filling the list… it’s what I choose to do on any given day. Taking away the choices of everyone to protect the AP lead of a few is a bad decision no matter how you slice it.
