Jumping puzzle in level 1-15 zone that ends up with a tunnel filled with Oozes – ranged fire dps and that tunnel leads to a room with level 16 5-6 oozes who repop almost immediately and a veteran level 17. Because of ranged DPS, will be unable to flee in time, and it is impossible to kill this on level 15. It is a death trap and it is a horrible experience for a new player…
Why is it designed like that in a jumping puzzle where you could try 4-5 times before you finally come to a chest you are unable to loot? It is like a stupid, cruel joke…

As a whole I like the experience being a newer player myself. I’ll leave aside the trait issue since that is going to be changed. The biggest issue to me is as others have said the disconnect of the story. You complete part and it’s just over. Even some effort put into it with a real segue back into the world, i.e., letters mentioning that there’s this conflict here, these events going on there, that perhaps your character could help until more is revealed in relation to your personal story. The current experience is just far too disjointed.

It would also be nice if some of the level 80 content were scaled back and split up. The path from being guided through the vision up to reaching Arah seemed to drag on forever because it’s too large of a chunk to be brought to bear at once. I will say though that if the purpose of it is to make a player feel some sense of what a soldier would experience in terms of being weary of war and just wanting it to be over they certainly did that.

Yeah, because if there’s anything I want GW2 to start doing, it’s adopting all the terrible habits that make other MMOs not be fun to play, right from the start. That whole bit about how you shouldn’t have to spend 80 levels getting ready to have fun and play the game was obviously a bad idea, and we, as customers, shouldn’t speak up when the best defense that can be given is, “It’s not as good as it was at launch, but it’s better than the rest of the stuff out there, so eh- what’re you gonna do?”

Hi guys, just new in the game. if the GW2 dev guys make everything easier to play. why the hell you guys put vista in a place where its hard to reach. like I have to go to a top just to view it while I have to jump to a little stairs then while doing that,some stupid npc will attack me. ,whats with vista anyway? . just don’t get it. make it easy why not do everything especially in vista viewing . so annoying and irritating

i’m not sure if you’re joking or being serious? honest question here.

a majority of the vistas are already fairly easy to get, assuming you’re the appropriate level for that area. personally i enjoy the ones that adopt a “mini-jumping-puzzle” style. I guess not everyone would agree though. it’s up to personal preference i suppose.

That said, there are so many vistas that to change them all to make them easier to obtain would take so much work it’s not really worth doing, in my opinion.

Druid main, 80 on all, Legendary ranked, Eternal and all that jazz (I go by Feyris in game)

Kill the npc before it attacks you…problem solved. Vistas are the best part about doing a map 100% for the 3rd-4th-100th time… Most quests are not that great, WP are easy, PoI (some are quite challanging) but vistats….that’s the thing i enjoy, and that short 3-5 seconds video AC style…best idea ever in a game.

Got to give my nod here that vistas are awesome.

My only regrets currently in the game are that the personal story still hasn’t been resolved and that my computer’s graphics don’t let me see things as beautifully as some. Vista’s will be even nicer when I get my new computer.

Seriously though, I myself really enjoy exploring the maps and finding all the high up hidden nooks and crannies, you can get amazingly views of the world without even using a vista if you really try.

Meh, I can remember back in my newbie days I spent a good hour trying to reach a vista…the movement mechanics took awhile to get used to. Now it’s no problem.

Yes, some of the Vistas are a bit frustrating, but I still like them.
I like the short videos, and i like jumping down from high up places into water
(wouldn’t do that in real life since I’ve got acrophobia).

In the beginning I was horrible at vistas and jumping puzzles and did not particularly like doing them, although I did like they were a little bit of a challenge. After playing for 2 1/2 years I have improved greatly at jumping, although I am no expert, and I really like them now.

Here are a few tips that may help you:

Movement – I think jumping is easier if you use the w key and hold the right mouse button while changing direction with the mouse. If you find you are not lined up correctly for the next jump stop and use the s, q and e keys to adjust your position or the a and d key to adjust the direction you are facing.

Jumping – Some jumps require you to jump up, make sure you are looking up to the platform and not down at your feet. Some jumps require you to leap a long distance that require a running jump. To start look down at your feet to make sure you have room for a few steps. If need be use s to backup. Then look to were you want to jump, use w and the mouse to take a running step or 2 and press the space bar to jump.

NPCs attacking – When you get faster at moving and jumping most NPCs can be ignored and run past. But keep in mind that if you are hit or in combat your speed is reduced and long jumps that you could normally make are now impossible. So kill off the NPCs first before those long difficult jumps.

Bad camera angles – some large races, Charr and Norn, are especially hard to maneuver through jumping puzzles and to fight in tight spaces because of the way the camera interacts with walls and ceilings. Even using the smallest female Norn doesn’t help. Using Asura or Sylvari is much easier.

Difficult or tricky vistas and jumping puzzles – some vistas have one jump that is tricky because it requires you to jump to one particularly unintuitive spot. Once you learn that tricky spot, either through trial and error or someone shows you or via a video, the path to the top is much easier. Some vistas are combined with jumping puzzles. To find out about jumping puzzles use the wiki here, go down to Exploring the World, Map, Jumping Puzzles. Click on the one you are interested in from the list. If you want help figuring out the path there is a walk-through, tips, a map and a link to youtube videos.

Here is a video of the Wall Breach Blitz which is a vista and a jumping puzzle in Diessa Plateau. As newbies my group was shown how to do this vista by helpful players who were also doing the jumping puzzle at the same time as us.

P.S. Also for long jumps it helps to use a speed buff.

At launch, I found some Vistas to be quite challenging, as my jumping prowess was not as it is now. Some Vistas are difficult to find the correct path to the viewing site.

I think you will find, with time and practice, the jumping gets much easier. It’s also easier on a smaller character, but if you learn on a large character…all the better. The paths to the end get easier if you learn them, but can remain challenging if you haven’t visited a Vista in a year or two….lol.

Anet has really made the game too noob friendly :I I mean, restricting everything to let us go on this path they made for us is redicoulas, forcing us to acaully farm traits or farm skills and gold for the traits and all those beginner garbage that spams you till you use your healing skill in the lower areas

I feel you… Usually by the time i ended the tutorial i’d already have all 5 skills on the starter weapon and i’d usually finish it lvl 3-ish.
Now its like lvl 1-2, with 1 skill.
And you used to get a off-hand weapon at the end of it plus a bag, now you get the same weapon, just slightly better.
It used to be that the first 10-15 levels were mostly about unlocking your weapon skills, and some other cool stuff (weapon swaping and such), now you just unlock basic stuff that you usually started with…
As a old-player the NPE sux. As a new player, you just don’t know how good it was…
Too bad so many people needed hand-holding, and caused the early game to get kinda ruined imo.

No offense to O.P , but if you want easy no challenge play then head to the mmorpg’s that are dying out . Asking to have all the Vistas easy to access is silly. Why not just figure it out on your own? Slow down and take your time . If you want things handed to you may I suggest a garrison?

Just came back to the game, started doing storyline on a toon I am leveling to 80.

WTF

I mean really WTF.

The storyline was one of the few good things this game had going for it and they managed to kitten that up too??

I had NO trouble making my way through Orr while completing the storyline on my first 4 characters. The story divergence with Apatia/Tonn/Syska was one of the most emotional and involving parts of the game and they flat out removed it!?

And I’ve been aware about the removal of the personality system since they took it out. It may not have had any functional effect on the game but it still gave the game a bit of character. This game is so dead and soulless now.

but hey you got ESports right? ha…

If you wanted this game to be a successful Esport game you should have focused on WvW. Look at Lineage. Look at LoL. Hell look at Planetside 2 or Eve Online. All extremely successful games and what do they all have in common? Team sizes greater then the number 5!

Good point. I liked that personality thing and made me curious although I couldn’t see it in effect than a few NPCs choices. I was looking forward to see it improved and better used instead removing it for good :S

GW2 has really great online resources for just about everything in the game.

I started a new game to play the NPE and my only problem so far is the Personal Story hasn’t come up yet. I would say Personal Story should be introduced around level 6 or 7 because that’s about the time its taken me to finish the first 4 renown hearts and the dynamic events that are in that area. Witch is just enough time to explore the GW2 specific mechanics. I like the idea because originally I felt the Personal Story was opened too soon not giving me enough time to first explore different areas of the game. Because GW2 is unlike any other game out there so as a new player you have to get familiar with the new concepts like dynamic events, renown hearts, vistas.

You are not alone in this feeling. Over the last year, the official feedback threads have gained about 100 pages, and the responses are overwhelmingly negative. Before April of last year, trait points were awarded starting at level 11 (Well, 15, by today’s standards- the mechanics have changed a bit). It was 10s to unlock the first tier of traits (total- it unlocked all 5 lines for that cost), 50s to unlock the middle tier, and 2g to unlock the third tier.

You had to visit a trainer and pay a small fee (a few silver) to change traits, so the new interface is an improvement, but that’s it.

Some of the fixes are fine, but there’s no reason traits should be non-existent until 30. It really adds nothing to the feeling of easing new players in. Letting them be gained steadily over the leveling process would do a lot more to help give players a chance to mess with them and learn what’s going on.

The new player experience is really annoying when I try to show new players around. I want to show them things like vistas and harvesting and skill challenges, but they’re all locked behind a level gate. A lot of their cool class mechanics also take a really long time to unlock.

If you wished to challenge the MMO genera why did you change the entire kittening unlock system to a generic MMO feeling? Arenanet come on, ive tried to be patient and hint to this. but i believe perhaps a more direct comment is best, the way skills are unlocked and the slots they use coming with levels are not new, they are the same as WoW, Rift, Everquest, And just about every other kittening MMO out there.. what you did with the trait system was also bullkitten. When it comes to leveling, there are a couple of viable options now that arent entirely grinding on the nerves like hearts are.. you can level through EotM which turned into a kittening bag hunt or you can use Crafting.. which tbh, that defeats the purpose of the games original design. you are discouraging players from going into queensdale by taking out 90% of the good events there, are doing the same to just about all the starter zones, tomes of knowledge arent frequent enough to make a real difference, and PvP isnt for everyone.

everything was fine till china release then it at went down hill with that! dance fort he cows now , instead of feeding them hay ! Need to say anymore? everyone from kindregarden on up knows cows eat hay!!

As a new player I can speak for other new players. We have no idea what you’re talking about.

Been here since launch, i know what the original game was like before the “New Player Experience.” quality of life was much better for new players interms of leveling and overall fun, though it may not seem it now. it was much different, they could have added all the stuff they did without dumbing everything down.

he’s talking about the leveling ,skills, and trait unlock system we have now, it was different before same for feeding cows now to dance for them in Queensdale, Heart quest.
