Nearest Target - toggle off pets, walls, etc
Yeah that would be nice I agree. If nothing else a “don’t target yellow creatures/objects” would be useful.
+1 to this. That screws me over so often
+1 also. Under no circumstances should anything but an enemy get targeted unless you choose to. Targeting system as a whole needs a rework.
++++1. REWORK THIS!

I hate to be the downer on this one, and I agree with Walls and Neutral creatures, but the Ranger pet taking damage priority over the Ranger is a mechanic of the class.

I don’t think ranger pets were designed to cause targetting issues, that is a side effect of the way the targeting system functions. Just like against minion necros who depend on the terrible targetting system to help win fights. It would be a nice feature to make a separate command that only iterates through players.
Really though you should be fighting the player not the UI.
Seems like this could cause issues for mesmers in PvP.

Because we can’t be angry about both?
Oh, come on. Our pets need to be good for something.

If forcing players to fight the UI is a class mechanic then I guess it is okay.
Finding the appropriate target is part of being successful. Working as intended.
What I’ve found is that nearest target is… the nearest point A to B “yellow and up” target based on a 360 degree radius… period. So it doesn’t matter if that nearest target is not in a line of sight or if it’s an inanimate object or alive.
Once I accepted how nearest target works, I began to adapt to this… hehe… “feature.” But, I agree, it would be nice to have additional targeting options. The more the better, imo.
It isn’t even called “Nearest Target”. It is called “Nearest Enemy”. I have never had a grudge against a wall in my life! Only RED TEXT things should be targeted with that command.
Set a man on fire, and he’ll be warm the rest of his life.

Ranger companions, Mesmer phantasms, Necromancer minions, Guardian spirit weapons, Elemental summons, …..
Is it not expected that they’re supposed to be a minor buffer against damage, even if only in a miniscule capacity when being targeted? I don’t understand the reasoning of destroying that just because you’re annoyed that your ‘Nearest Target’ didn’t actually target the player you wanted.
LOL, you can tell the defensive ppl are the rangers/necros.
Seriously though I really do think it would be advantages having the option to toggle off pets, walls, etc. I get it not changing Mesmer though. (I’m not a Mesmer btw)

The mesmer one makes sense because theyre supposed to be clones of you in order to confuse your enemies.
Everything else doesnt makes sense.
