Nearly a month after release. Any second thoughts?
I only paid £25.00 for the game, im bored stiff with it and just waiting on Storm Legion.
I enjoy it. Its different then the regular grind type game like WoW, SWtor, and Rift. It plays to different peoples tastes. Will I keep coming back to this? I would have to say yes. I haven’t mastered my favorite class (don’t think I ever will) but that is my goal. Plus I don’t have to pay a monthly fee so I don’t feel bad about not playing for a few days as I’m not wasting money. I knew what I was signing up for when I purchased this game as I played the first game from the beginning. I’m not sure that many people that are complaining even knew what guild wars was about.
Best 65 bucks I ever spent.

to answer the question in the title no no second thoughts
Well worth my investment into entertainment.
Not quite the messiah of gaming that I was expecting.
GW2 is still the much needed breath of fresh air I needed especially when it comes to 5 man dungeons. To boot there’s no where to go but up!
I’m getting my money’s worth as far as I’m concerned.
I’m enjoying the game, no question.. just, was kinda hoping it would be more successful. I mean, sure it sold well at first, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to keep growing. I thought there was a good chance it would be the first MMO to do that, since, well, 2004.
Where did they say Cantha was going to be the next expansion?
No second thoughts. The game met or exceeded my expectations, and turned out to be almost exactly what I was (optimistically) expecting based on all the pre-launch info. I am savoring every inch and every moment and it’s all delicious and beautiful. I would be in game right now if I weren’t at work. I have honestly bought gems just because I wanted to give ArenaNet more money because of how excellent and fun their game is. I would pay $20 a month to play this game if it had a subscription, and it’s quite possible I will play it for years until they come out with GW3.
If I could fly to Washington state, I would shake the hand and pat the back of each person at ArenaNet. This game is truly a masterpiece and I hope as they fix the bugs and add more content, it stays just as good as it is now.
I’m sure you’re looking for people who HAVE had second thoughts to answer this but for the sake of discussion I’ll say that I have not.
This is what I believe an MMORPG should be like. I finally realize now why I was never truly happy in WoW, the grind and lack of story-telling mechanics really made me feel like I was doing a job rather than playing a game.
Sure GW2 has it’s flaws in story telling mechanics (not a HUGE fan of the convo cut-scenes that rip you out of the moment) but I remember playing WoW from Vanilla to now and if THAT game can change as much as it has (graphically, interface, etc) then I know ANet can do better to please it’s playerbase by improving the experience in future builds and expansions.
From what I can see, they really take suggestions into consideration. I dove into the suggestion forums on how ANet can improve story-telling and why some of the characters and stories are one-dimensional and bland at times. ANet responded positively to the “heavy” criticism and said they were taking it into account moving forward. That’s what I like to hear! =)

Time will tell. It’s a Buy to Play model, which will always cause people to react in different ways. ArenaNet has pretty much lived up to everything that they had originally covered in their mission statements and from what they implied when they said that their “endgame” wouldn’t include a “traditional” raid progression system. This game is more about the “climb” in PvE and the WvW / PvP scene. All things considered, I thought that ArenaNet was relatively up front about that.
However many people expected there to be some kind of big “end game” scene and have become frustrated. If they had been following the MMO’s development for a while, then they would have realized that those were false expectations. Instead a massive amount of people jumped onto GW2 as the next big thing. Thus the general disappoint that many of the forum posters have projected.
Time will tell to see how the game will do. As a Buy to Play model, I see this game doing well and growing in the future. It will likely experience hot and cold periods where people will flip flop between GW2 and a 2nd MMO that has a more “traditional” level cap scene. However I really don’t think that this will be a major obstacle for GW2.

Very well said and true in all aspects of your post.
Where did they say Cantha was going to be the next expansion?
It’s more or less been accepted as a fact since the tengu in the Dominion of Winds are refugees from Cantha, and killing Zhaitan will open trade with Cantha again. There’s just so much in game at the moment that already points at Cantha being next on the list that it would be terribly confusing if we suddenly go to Elona to deal with Palawa Joko.
Personally I’d rather deal with chinese nazi’s than a lich trying to run an oasis resort with undead slave labor.

Perhaps it will grow in content, but I doubt it will grow in player base. Not having a subscription fee and without population data from ArenaNet, it’s difficult to see if people in game are logging less. With the first paid expansion we will see the real population, I think will be a lot lower than the number of buyers of the game…
What Craven said. Kept me playing for 1 month and probably will for a lot longer.

Thanks for clarifying that. I got so excited there for a moment thinking there was a Developer post about this somewhere that I had missed. I agree it makes sense to go to Cantha (crossing my fingers for playable Tengu) first.
To answer the OP’s queston. No second thoughts from me. The game is almost exactly what I expected. I’m still having a blast and I definitely feel it was worth the money I spent for the game.
A month after an MMO launches is a poor time to have second thoughts. The game is still in its infancy.
I intend to let the game evolve and change as it is certain to do, and then make a decision.
But given the lack of a monthly fee, I’m certain it will be better value than just about any other form of entertainment (e.g. a couple of hours of entertainment for the price of a cinema ticket, etc).
in the list of developers I have the least faith & trust in.
Congratulations ArenaNet!
When judging it against other games (even in their infancy), there are glaring pros and cons. I worry about the economy, importance of crafting, and what the heck I’m going to do for fun in the long run. And don’t get me wrong, I’m not talking about 3 years down the line. I’m saying I don’t exactly know what to do 2 months from now. I also worry about motivation for gear. I have all crafted exotics, and I don’t see much of an “appearance” difference in other gear, which means I’m either farming for legendary, or I’m “done” getting gear. I miss the prospect of cooler items trickling in. I miss searching for gear with better stats.
That having been said, this game was beautiful and fun. Certainly better than any single player game I’ve bought in the past year. PvP is interesting, and I"ve gotten my money’s worth a couple of times over. I mainly just want more content and a reason to log in. I’m confident arenanet is working on that now.

In all games, there is always a large initial surge followed by a gradual evening out of population. In subscription type game, this can be disastrous if its too steep. Re: TERA..for instance
B2P is a whole different animal. Everyone playing ponied up the entry fee. The game is set up in such a way as optional purchases for cash are available via the trader…but they are not really necessary to go forward in the game.

Did you look at the exotic dungeon armor? I think it’s weird, but they have a rare set of dungeon armor that has the name but a very generic and common skill, then they have the exotic set which has the unique skin.
Nope,I’m fine, still kicking and playing.
The diminishing returns in everything is somewhat disturbing and is one of the few things I’d like to see changed and the most important at that.
ROFLMAO at this topic’s question — “Nearly a month after release. Any second thoughts?” — and all similar threads.
It’s as if the decision to play this game was on par with the decision whether to get married, buy a house, which car to buy, etc.
Seriously, it’s a game. It doesn’t matter.
Heck no. I’m loving it.
Total waste of time and money. I wish I could get my money back.
There is literally no depth to the PVP in this game. WoW laughs at this game’s pvp.
i leveled my first (ranger:P) to 80
i know play a guardian :P:P
no seconds thoughts here, i still having a blast (but tbh i skip most conversations :P i want to smash things :P)
GW2 has earned a gold place at my heart among with UO and DAoC (and NOT WOW:) )

WoW’s PvP is just a gear-based zerg-fest. I’m not getting how that’s any better. Please qualify your statement.
WoW do have a meaningful Rating/Ladder system. GW2 doesn’t. That is the biggest problem of GW2 PvP right now.
I’m not sorry I purchased the game but since getting to lvl 80 last week, I haven’t logged back on.
Since there’s no sub fee, I’m sure I’ll come back and check out the game again later.

GW2’s is coming. It’s already been confirmed.
Worth the money, but its just too fast a ride. Playing just a couple of hours a night, I didn’t expect to be max lvl in around a month. The dungeons are WAAAAAY too much of a grind after seeing them once. The rewards aren’t worth doing them 50 times. WvW in its current zergy state doesn’t seem like more than a few nights worth of entertainment. I can’t PvP for more than a few days either, since the same maps get boring quick. I’ll reroll another character once I hit 80 pretty soon and mess around in PvP for a week. Hopefully I can get another month out of the new character. Otherwise, thats pretty lame overall for an MMO.
Although, I haven’t lasted more than a month in any MMO since 04-05 and WOW. So at least Anet made a MMO I actually liked, as brief as it will probably be. Can’t say that for anything else released online the past 8 years. Back to single player PC games and Xbox=)

Just “coming” is not enough. This is an essential feature that should be there since day 1. One month after release, we still see no time line on this.
While I’m not as thrilled as I was expecting to be, I don’t think that I wasted money. Truth be told I kind of miss feeling of the progression and controls something bugs me but I still enjoy the game.
I’m still enjoying it deeply.
It’s different in it’s own way and I’m glad it is. I know there’s a bunch of people who won’t like it, but that,s fine different strokes for different folks but I’m still enjoying it and be exited to see more.
On a separate note. I’m also enjoying the large about of whining going on in the forums. Makes me chuckle.

Um? WoW’s PVP Arena / Rated Battlegrounds is far from a PVP zerg fest. They actually test the individual skills of players. Not simply AOE everything down: Gw2
My only regret is buying CE. Could have been fine with deluxe. >:
Still enjoying the game though, or rather trying to find a profession that I will actually like at 80..
It’s not the revolutionary game the manifesto claimed it would be but I don’t regret buying it. No monthly sub means I can guiltlessly not log in for days and come back whenever I want.
I have no regrets about the purchase price but I’m still miffed that, much like GW1, it’s not really an “MMORPG” in any traditional sense. If anything, it just feels more like an online-only RPG.

Hehehe :P did we play the same game ? :P
Have u played WSG+Twin Peeks+Eye of the Storm middlefarm or gtting bombard from 5+ players while u hold the flag or a base , or Sota+AV+Isle of Conquest 25ppl ? :P
We got it , u miss the healers :P

Nope! I had to force myself to put the game down to play Borderlands 2. It’s a super fun game, but I can’t wait to finish it so I can get back to GW2!
GW2 never demands that I give up all other games to remain competitive… and y’know what, that’s what it really comes down to. Past MMO’s absolutely dominated my playtime. I had to skip over or put so many other games on the backburner just to keep up with the joneses that it really become tiresome.
GW2 grants me a freedom that no other MMO could possibly offer.
No second thoughts, still loving it as much as I did in the first day I played. I have tons of other games to play but can’t stop logging in.
This is my opinion. I am personally a little let down by almost every aspect of the game. The main problem I had with pve is the lack of holy trinity. On paper it sounds like a great idea, but to me it just lends itself to so much chaos. Enemies are running around all over the place like a chicken with their head cut off and if there are tons of people fighting and aoeing, it makes it hard to see when to actually dodge anything, because of all the spell effects. It also removes full time tanking/healing roles which I find very fun.
In regards to pvp I feel the only things that brought something new was the lack of gear imbalance and the downed mechanic. I enjoyed the lack of gear advantages but had a very big problem with the downed mechanic. Again I feel like it sounds great on paper. Coming back for a second wind to overcome the odds, but I think it slows the game down too much. It just feels like it takes longer to kill someone that is down on the ground than actually fighting them outright which doesn’t make much sense to me. I don’t think the tactical decision making it brings is worth the glory of going 1v3 and taking out 1 or 2 people before you go down.
I’ve never been interested in crafting really so I can’t comment on that aspect other than it seems the same as any other standard mmo crafting. Though the xp going towards your character level is a nice bonus.
I felt the story was kind of boring the way it was presented and found the voice acting to be cringe worthy at times. In the beginning I would watch the cutscenes but after a while I found myself just skipping it and not feeling like I was missing much.
On the positive side I really enjoyed the world. I like beautiful large zones and I think the way point system was a great idea. I thoroughly enjoyed the exploration aspect. Getting all the vistas and points of interest and even jumping puzzles was fun for me. Seeing numbers on the map, like 6/7 vistas found or skill points completed etc. really appealed to my OCD side and I felt a sense of accomplishment when I 100% a map. I also liked that scaling allowed you to go to lower zones and play with friends.
All in all, I’d say I don’t regret buying it as it is free to play and some changes down the road may see me return. The great exploration just isn’t enough to overcome the major problems I have with the core systems of pve/pvp.
PvP in this game disgusts me. PvE in this game disgusts me.

seriously you must be playing a wrong version of WoW PvP
Arena = 1 comp to rule them all
Rated BG = 1 comp team to rule them all
BOTH require a serious amount of time in order to get PvP Gear
zergfest GW2 >>>>>>>>> Arena/R bg get over it….
now pandas ARE released why you crawl in our forums?

I’m pretty much with everyone else here. It’s a $60.00 one time purchase game that I’ve already put in over 120hrs and am still enjoying myself. Whether or not I continue to play it for years would not change the fact that I already feel it was worth the money. I mean, how many games have you dished out the same money for that gave ~20hrs of gameplay. Darksiders/DS2 come to mind. I’ve already blown twice the money on that franchise as this one game and beat both in a fraction of the play time I’ve gotten out of this and I’m STILL not at 80!
Playing a B2P MMO isn’t something you get second thoughts about. You have no additional investment into it.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
