Need a way to report emote spammers
You have an option to hide emotes from your chat window.
Unless you are roleplaying, in this case report and describe the issue in lenghtly details.
Or simply ignore the troll, it’s the best way to get rid of them → You don’t feed them → They die.
I’ve always hated having to manually add them to contacts to then block them. At least now blocking also hides their emotes instead of their being able to spam away or even chat in emotes knowing they couldn’t be blocked.
I usually try to taunt them into saying something in chat so I could block them easier than typing their name out in contacts. Usually a simple “Hey, blahblah” is enough to get them to stop and say “Yeah?” so I can block them quickly.
Interactive names in emotes is long overdue though.

I actually like having emotes on, and many NPC scenes also use them. You are basically saying the equivalent of turn chat off because someone is spamming, which is ridiculous.
Please add this. Having to report emote spam is a pain in the butt.
I whish people would stop licking my mini snowman and be able to report that. Yes.
Say 10 things in Map Chat over 15 minutes pertaining to the conversation or the game, blocked from spamming.
Emote 500 times in a row /cheer….. nah you’re good.

Yeah, it is ridiculous. This should be basic stuff. Some guy just chased me around Lion’s Arch spamming about 100 emotes at me…

If OP is talking about who I think he’s talking about, the spammer in question uses i and í in sequence (try doing a search for ííiííiiííiiííiiííiííiiiííiííiííiííiiííiííi without copying and pasting, remember that partial hits don’t count in /ignore), which makes it impossible for most people to ignore without the ability to right-click > ignore.
While I’ve been harassed by emote spammers a lot, because apparently annoying roleplayers is something entertaining for them (last time was yesterday, actually), I really hope Arenanet doesn’t ban people for “emote abuse”.
A lot of people actually spam emotes to make screenshots, or videos, because they need the right pose, the right timing, etc. How would Arenanet make a difference between them and the guys spamming only to kitten off others ? :/

Location.
Seriously, if you are spamming a zillion times a second to make a movie when there are people around trying to read chat, you deserve the ban.

I did that so long ago I forgot emotes were even in the game.
Meh, I like emotes and I want to use them without having to fear that someone will report me because he/she thinks I use them to much. I’m not trying to annoy someone btw. but who defines what is “to much”. Some might feel offended by a single /dance. I would rather like to have the option to hide the emote text of my emotes in the chat window.
but who defines what is “to much”.
This is too much:
[11:00] Ameepa cheers.
[11:00] Ameepa cheers.
[11:00] Ameepa cheers.
[11:00] Ameepa cheers.

... × 30

This.
This by a mile.
Speaking of mile, can we at least lower the range on emotes? I really shouldn’t be able to hear what Darth Sephiroth is whispering to Purry Kitty Cub at range 2000. :\

Just turn off show emotes in the chat pane. Seriously.

I was able to find that guy’s global and I have him on block now…but yeah I like having emotes on to read RP I come across, see when those crabs in bloodtide are threatening me (so I can kill them) and other NPC emotes. I’m not going to turn chat/emotes/game off due to a few jerks.
Max size norns and charrs with the black wings running around are blocking my view and makes it hard to see anything. Can we report them too?

What an incredibly shortsighted and ridiculous response. Emotes are a part of the game, and even NPCs use them. Having to turn them off because some people spam a million a second is NOT a viable option, and should not be suggested.

You can still ignore the guy or block him. That’s two options to choose from.
You have trouble copy-pasting the name to block him ? TAKE A BLOODY SCRREN ! And copy the name quietly.

Short sighted and ridiculous? You’re kittened off by emotes and want a game mechanic introduced while the devs are working on the expansion when all you have to do is uncheck one box in the chat window to completely shut down seeing the activity that has you kittened off. Simply turn off emotes until the player is gone then turn it back on. I fail to share your outrage.

I don’t think people should be forced to turn off their emotes just because some people want to spam an emote over and over so everything else on the chat is instantly removed from the screen.
You don’t even have to turn off emotes in your main tab.
Just make a new tab called ‘Shut The Kitten Up’, turn off everything in that tab, and when you encounter precious moments in-game where you need these exceedingly special individuals to ‘Shut The Kitten Up’, go to your handy-dandy ‘Shut The Kitten Up’ tab.
Seriously, GW2 spoils us. I wish I could make a tab like that IRL.

The OP wants to play hall monitor reporting people for emoting too much (which is subjective). No one us forcing anyone to do anything. Change maps, block emotes, block the player, or turn off your computer they all work

Block spammers, you won’t see their emotes anymore.
Create a new tab,
Turn off Emotes in that tab
When someone starts spamming, switch to that tab
When you absolutely need to see emotes, switch back to your regular tab
Profit

That being said, I disagree with reporting someone for “spamming emotes”. I’m also annoyed by it but I don’t think it’s a reportable offence.

It’d be much easier to block them if their names were selectable. Wouldn’t even be an issue if I could right-click/block.
