No they dont listen their playerbase who made it extremely clear they didn t want ascended stuff and “progression”.
And unless you show me some feedback of the proportion of the anti ascended thread then you can t say the opposite.
(but you can see in ANY site talking about gw2 how the game is defined as a grindy with no endgame).
1. It sounds like you are suffering from confirmation bias, in that you expect something and are searching for only things that may confirm what you expect.
2. You want us to look on a thread designed to complain about ascended gear and find more people in it who like ascended gear? That’s like going to an apple festival and saying that obviously everyone prefers apples because the 100 people at the festival all prefer apples to other fruit.
3. I imagine most people who like things don’t run to the forums to say why they like it. Many, many people complained about lack of end-game content and then were quite pleased with the introduction of ascended jewels and fractals.
4. You can call anything a grind really. Grind just means that you are doing something over and over and you probably don’t like doing that. In any game you will be doing something over and over, so the grind function really just means that you are doing something you don’t like. If you don’t like doing it, stop.
5. I am personally looking forward to everything you listed as faults.

In regards to the 2 potential ‘new’ fractals (Fall of Ab, and Reactor Explosion). Although, I guess if its server differentiated (and not an overall calculation) one could potentially guest to another server to experience the other fractal.

Well guess Anet did not mean, when they said play how you like. Good bye the MF farmers that did it the right way and not leech in dungeons, why couldn’t Anet just put some code in for dungeons and block all armour that has the MF code.

I’m worried that crafting will be the only possible way to acquire ascended armor and weapon. As an avid fractals frequenter, I was hoping I could finally have some use to all the accumulated pristine fractals relics, or even have a new fractals currency usable to afford the new ascended gear.
However, by no means this minimizes all these great news, and it’s good to see Anet does listen to our feedback. Hopefully everything goes according to the post.
Please, for the love of god, let me change and chose my Greatsword skills.

Supposedly, all of this is supposed to happen between now and then end of the year (12/31/2013). The blog/interviews are intended as a second half of the year guideline as to what they are expecting to release to us; however, as with all development, some of it is subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances that may arise.

Ok, so anyone that reads the forums a lot knows I’m not exactly a fan of Anet, and probably wonders why I play GW2 at all, but..
I have to admit these potential changes have me excited. I don’t trust Anet to not totally screw them up on implementation, but a stopped clock is right twice a day, so I can hope.
Things I don’t want to see:
-If blue/green items have a chance to salvage for MF consumables, I’m hoping that means more than a 0.0000000000000000000000001% chance. If it’s comparable to BLSK chance on Ectoplasm, then sweet, but the consumables need to be done in a way that they don’t kill cooking.
For example, if they introduce a consumable that when salvaged adds +25 to MF for half an hour, and if it over-rides current food items, then things like Lemon Bars and such will be somewhat useless. Countering this problem means either making the new MF consumables something that adds MF to currently applied food bonuses, or, making the probability of a blue/green dropping a consumable so low that people will still need Lemon Bars and so on.
-Crafting precursors. This is a great idea, but it needs to be a gate. As I’ve said elsewhere, I want a “Precursor Fabrication Specialist” title to distinguish myself from those who got lucky at the Mystic Toilet or used a credit card. It would be nice if Anet would also involve something like.. well…crafting to the equation. “Run each dungeon in game 1000 times” is not “crafting”.
-New Legendaries. I don’t have one, but I’d like to build one, and as such I’ve looked at each one available, and paid attention in world to how they look, and so on. Also I’ve read a lot of the threads and seen some of the complaints people have about them. If Anet is going to add new ones, that is great, but please, Anet, polish the current ones as well. Do not just shelve them as finished. There are many examples on the forum of things people would like to see added. Kudzu raining down flowery arrows when using Barrage as an example.
The changes listed in the blog have a LOT of potential. I’m hoping that Anet doesn’t waste it all in the name of the gem store.

Your fault for tossing your laurels to rng? You got what you paid for, on the other hand, the thing we paid for is being taken away.

There is always a give and take. It’s only a matter of how much.
Cheaper t5/t6 means more people will go for a legendary. Which means more people will attempt one and keep the price of t5/t6 sustained up. And then more people will want to buy the lodestones and precursors. Those prices will go up too.
I’d bet dollars to doughnuts that current MF gear users will just apply it to their account wide bonus and only a one time deal. Current achievement bonuses are really small. So i’d think that would be the direction they’d go with current gear.

Funny, i was JUST saying i wanted Amulets or some other trinket so give sweet particle effects. Sounds like legendary trinkets are EXACTLY what i was talking about
Overall I am happy with many of the changes. Account wide MF that isn’t bound to equipment will save me personally a good deal of grief, though I wonder if this is also meant to cover the XP and gold boosts as well. The bonus champ rewards will really help improve the rewards of group events, which have not been worth the trouble. More skills and traits is always great, I hope they include swapping some weapon skills as well.
I like the idea of high level crafting mats being made from lower level ones, but in the same breath he mentioned more time gated and account bound items. Binding items kills much of the sense of reward that the items could give (i.e. ascended ring drops are just vendor trash). Time gating kills the sense of reward by invalidating the game-time investment you made (i.e. I have enough quartz to make a full set of celestial gear already but it will be months before I can make a full set of gear). The time gating would be fine if it were unbound (the time limited supply would make them valuable and therefore rewarding even if you don’t have a personal use for the item), but most automatically bound items quickly become vendor trash.
More ascended gear is fine, I guess. I was already resigned to the fact that any exotic gear I made at this point would be invalidated eventually anyways. Even if they don’t release any further rarities, they built a loophole into ascended via infusions. There are already 2 different infusion rarities (white and blue) so I would not be shocked if they planned on releasing rarities straight up to legendary in the future with larger stat boosts. So while I’m not expecting them to break their promise of no more rarities, I am expecting them to use this loophole that they built into the item system. I am keeping my fingers crossed that they will provide avenues of acquiring the existing ascended gear that isn’t time gated, but that doesn’t seem likely. The multi-purpose legendary gear sounds awesome, but it is kinda sad that we need to wait to get legendary gear before the game starts to promote experimentation.
So overall, my reaction is Cautious Optimism. Many of these changes will improve my personal gameplay experience, but many of my personal beefs with the game will remain: Excessive amounts of bound items, severe time gating, resistance to experimentation, huge amounts of temp content, etc. So I look forward to seeing much of this implemented, but as of yet I don’t think it will be enough to change my “no spending money in the gemstore” stance. Until the game becomes something I feel I can play on my own terms and schedule, it has not earned more than I spent on CE.

With the new materials being able to be created from T6 mats, I think the price will likely see an increase in the beginning as people rush to build precurors. If I read it correctly, the new materials, in regards to legendary items, will only be used for crafting precursors, not the legendaries themselves. So you’ll still need 250 of each T6 mat in order to craft the appropriate components for the Legendary. The new materials are only related to precursors (when it comes to legendary crafting).
edit: regarding the time gated stuff – Anet has a chance to do something right with that. It’s likely being put in to prevent people from being able to “farm” precursors by crafting them. I just hope they don’t limit things such that the amount of time it takes to craft a precursor doesn’t “encourage” the traditional methods of obtaining them.

But I don’t really see the point of your post. Ascended gear already exists in the game, it is not a “new gear tier” it haven’t been since back in November when they added the tier.
Overall very exciting news.
No mention of GW2 “raids with a twist”, guess that’s further out.
I hope the legendary trinket provides something visual, or it won’t ever be pursued.
New crafting is exciting. Nerf to CoF and buff to other dungeons is probably my favorite part. Time to come up with an investment and money scheme to capitalize on this and make myself rich for a change.

Subjective material has no use. Exotic skins are already useless. If you thought otherwise it was an expectation that you had which let you down, not something Anet did.
And unless I read the forums poorly, the only people whining are the ones who don’t understand the actual update. Anet is doing only what people have been asking for nearly a year. Work on dungeons. Check. Work on rewards. Check. Work on crafting, make it useful. Check. Allow us to get precursors another way than RNG. Check. Make more legendaries. Check. God I could just keep going.

Back in 2012 when the release of Ascended trinkets came they told us their plan all along was a max level of ascended items. All of it. How you can think that they wouldn’t do that is beyond me. They’ve promised that’s the top. It’s a 3% increase. Woopty.

TBH i prefer gear treadmills to time gated content. And I don’t understand the hate on gear treadmills. They’re a nice past-time and you can set new goals.

Honestly, I enjoy the gameplay despite the story and gear, because I enjoy the world and I’d enjoy it more if they did it a little more justice than the little hamster wheels they’ve been building lately. Not knocking anyone else for enjoying them, mind you, they’re just not my thing. I’d actually be a little more interested in a good bit of content that actually tried to draw my attention without the irrelevant odds and ends attached. Give me a good story or something, on par with the semi-decent quality of the short story blurbs on the old blog or on this very site.
I’ll remember that. I’ll hardly remember getting a new skill/trait/piece of gear. That experience is basically the norm.
What am I saying though. The populous has spoken, and they outnumber me.

Actually it was pure concern. Most of the Achievements I can strive for now are either weapon based or slayer based. Since I don’t play for countless hours I tend to accumulate points at a slower pace compared to my previous gaming hours.
Even if I do get the points for the chest, I still would be bummed out if they went and altered the tier. I like seeing all those pretty completed bars on my crafting achievements.
I think my best case scenario would be them adding in a new achievement for crafting items in the 500 level, thus leaving the other one alone.
