Which would be more preferred?

I’ve heard alot of talk about making the bird people seen in most of the starter maps into a race and then some more talk about there being a monk class. In all honesty both sound good , but I’m not entirely sure. A new race sounds awesome, but instead of the bird people, I would want an aquatic race like the woman who helped in the storyline (she looked like an underwater butterfly).

As for a class, I did not play the original guild wars so I am unaware if there is classes that were not installed into GW2 that were in GW. I think instead of adding anymore tanks or what not, maybe a more designated healing class would be more appropriated. I know that GW2 was designed so that there would be no need for a healing class, but sometimes, they are very much needed.

Classes from GW1 included:

Warrior, Ranger, Mesmer, Elementalist and Necromancer were all in the original release of GW1. The 6th original class was Monk, a cloth armor healing-focused spellcaster. A lot of Monk tricks wound up in Guardians, and their removal as a class was the most deliberate sign of ANet distancing itself from the “Holy Trinity” of Tank/DPS/Healer. They’re thus extremely unlikely to come back

Four expansion classes were added. Assassin heavily influenced GW2’s Thief. The Ritualist (a spirit summoning shaman type) play style was largely rolled into Turret-heavy Engineers, and to a much lesser extent into Spirit Rangers. Paragons were javelin-wielding tactical commanders who saw a lot of their tricks split between Warriors and Guardians. Finally, Dervishes were scythe-wielding devotees of the Human Gods, probably the GW1 class with the least overlap to GW2, but extremely unlikely because of that religious background.

Personally, I think the addition of a 9th Class (Heavy Armor) and a 6th Race would be perfect. Then I could make three characters of each race for all three story paths, split them between all three armor types, and have two total members of every class as a result. I have no idea what the actual class would be though… Warrior is already very versatile conceptually, so most of my ideas for a 3rd Heavy Armor class wind up being “like this kind of Light Armor guy, but in plate armor with a greatsword”.

I had the idea of a 9th Class, but calling it Man-At-Arms. Men At Arms were generally professional soldiers, as opposed to the commoner jack wearers.

The concept would be mainly support, summoning weapons for others in the team to use, quick rallying and healing for self and others (as if he was inspiring his troops) and summoning minions for attack and defence.

After all, rangers have pets and thieves have Theifs Guild/Ambush, necros have minions and summonings… this would give Heavy a summoning/distraction class to match.

Your class related skill would be ‘Battle Orders’. F1 for Assault (more power, less vitality), F2 for Defence (less power, more vitality), F3 for Arquebsuiers (ranged attack, weakish defence) and F4 for Field Medics (guess what…). These would control what your summoned troops would be best at.

Say you are on F3 Battle Order and you use, probably, an elite skill. The skill would drop 3 rifles for your team mates to use, to allow them ranged skills where they might not have them. If on F2, they would get a temporary vit boost… etc. See where I’m going?

It would be much better to get new spells added to existing classes rather than adding a new class.

A new race added to the game would be nice though Hopefully we will see Tengu added in the first expansion.

Man At Arms were skilled weapon users, but also noblemen. They were cavalry, with troops to do most of their work. Cavalry are support, as in that they support foot troops.

Even in the modern terminology, Air Cavalry are mounted soldiers to support ground forces.

What is lol-able about such terminology?

Considering about half the classes in this game are well below par, I’d prefer they take a real hard look at the skills and traits available to the current classes and improve those to make the current classes more engaging.

Even the stronger classes like Elementalists, Guardians, Warriors, and Mesmers have an enromous number of just flat out useless traits and skills. So many it makes coming up with different spec’s and weapon options a near impossibility because most of the classes above consider 30 (if not 50 or 60 depending who you talk to in the case of the elementalist) points forfeit because the class can’t function without a specific trait.

I’d prefer them to work on improving the current classes, balancing/reworking skills and traits, possibly adding new ones. After we get rid of bugs that are half a year old, we can get our 3rd heavy class No dedicated healers tough, as that would be a faceplant on Arenanet’s part.

For races I can wait as making a new one is a lot of work and I haven’t even tried anything other than norn/silvary/human.

A heavy armor minion class would be fun.

Something along the lines of the Man-at-Arms idea. They could just name it Marshal, Sergeant or something. Sergeant would probably better, or maybe just Officer.

Make it work somewhere in between necro pets and rangers. 4 pets maybe, some ranged and melee weapon option for the character, some choice what type of duty their different minions would fill and so on.

I would much rather see individual class armors, and expanded skills than either a new race or a new class.

But, I think that right now a new race would be more interesting than a class. I can see a number of options for the new race, but I really don’t know how much more different ANet could make the skillset and how effectively they could set up a “niche” to implement a unique class. I’ve always like the idea that was scrapped with GW1’s Utopia: the Chronomancer. I can see that as being a control-and-condition-centred profession.

So, my order of preference in this category is
1. Expand current classes
2. New race
3. New prof.

(of course, bug-fixes and implementation of key in-game apps are always way at the forefront of any of the above)

Bird people are called Tengu. They would be the best thing ever. All I want is a tengu warrior. It would make my life.

They probably won’t do new professions because they want each profession to be distinct. At one point in development, they had, I think, 12 professions and they whiddled it down to 8 because some of them were seeming a bit samey. Also, more professions means more difficulty in balancing. Even if they did introduce a new profession, it definitely would NOT be the monk because the Guardian is already intended to be the spiritual successor of the monk and paragon from GW. They could do an assassin, but the thief kinda covers that. The Ritualist is covered by the Engineer (Anet devs said that at one point, and it makes sense). The only thing left is the Dervish, which could be interesting. They’re kind of like holy men/women who use earth (defense) and wind (speed boosts and cold damage) ‘prayers’ (magic). They also used Scythes and had the ability to transform basically into avatars of the gods. That could be interesting, but Anet is all about lore stuff and the Dervishes are unique to Elona and probably always will be. I doubt we’ll ever see any until we go to Elona. And even then, it’d be difficult to find a rationale for allowing non-humans to be Ritualists. Also, they will never add a healer class. There’s no such thing as a dedicated healer in GW2 and they’re going to keep it that way.

Like everyone else is saying, more weapons and skills would be sweet, but again, that means a lot of the same issues as with new professions. They might do it because it’s on a smaller scale, but I think that new races are still more likely. And, in my opinion, preferred…especially if it’s Tengu…

We don’t need a new class or a new race when the current classes are not even that deep.

This, I’d much prefer to have more options/choices for the current classes than getting more. That being said, class > race because class affects the way the game is played, while race is basically just a character skin, and a lot of wasted time on making another main city, story etc. Cause nobody uses the main cities (LA > all) and the story is a one time thing, and quite forgettable in its current state (apart from trahearne who is so annoying it’s hard to forget him).

Saying they need to make other stuff is kinda silly…. they will eventually I am sure.
Wether they make a new race or new class, it will most likely be with a full expansion, meaning there will be tons more than just that.

I think 1 more class tops all in all. A heavy. But races don’t affect balance, and they give a lot of new story options and lore. Only races already known in game I see become playable is tengu though… perhaps largos.

One alternative to new weapons could be more skills on existing weapons. This in a similar fashion to utility skills, in that each weapon skill slot would have a pop up menu of skill alternatives.

With each slot having its own range of alternatives, balancing would be easier than if we could mix and match freely. This while still allowing more flexibility than the honestly rigid weapon bound system of present.

Only new class I could see them adding because it’s not partially/heavily put into other classes is a Dervish type class.

It’s F abilities could be Vow of Silence, Vow of Strength, and Zealous Vow. Commiting to a Vow puts the others on a 20 second cool down, and the Vow itself has a cool down.

Vow of Silence: Gain 2 seconds of invulnerability and when it ends give 5 seconds of Protection to nearby allies and yourself. 60 second cool down

Vow of Strength: Your next 5 attack cause 2 Vulnerability for 8 seconds each and give 2 Might for 15 seconds. 40 second cool down

Zealous Vow: Give 8 seconds of Fury and 8 seconds Vigor to you and nearby allies. 30 second cool down

The class specific trait would reduce the ability cool downs (not the 20 second global cool down) by up to 20%.

Enchantment skills would be one of the unique things to the profession. A heal, say Mystic Regeneration would work like this.

Activate Mystic Regen: Gain the effect “Mystic Regeneration” heals for 275 HP a second, this effect lasts until the enchantment is stripped. Also remove a condition on acitvation. The skill Mystic Regeneration is replaced with Pious Renewal.

Pious Renewal strips Mystic Regeneration, healing you for ~5500 and removes 1 condition. The skill reverts back to Mystic Regeneration and has a 30 second cool down

In the expansion I’d love to see a new class, maybe a new race and new weapon types, since some of the “cool” weapons remain unused (chakrams, javelins, claws, crossbows or maybe even slingshots). IMO there is a lot of material they could add, so I hope for an expansion announcement soon.

Stuff like Tengu or even Jottun or mini Giants. Just put the skin on and appear as one of those, maybe even have a few skills associated with it. I’d like a new race (Tengu, Krait/Naga, Skritt) way more than a new class, although I wouldn’t object to a 3rd Heavy Armor profession to balance out the armor types.

Thing is though, the 8 professions already cover most of the class archetypes found in games. It’d be rather hard to introduce a new profession that has a role which isn’t already being fulfilled by one of the existing professions. Having a new race would mean no new game balance issues are introduced.

Skritt Race: Your “character” is 3 skritt grouped together. Think WC3’s Goblin Sapper.
Seeing as skritt get smarter the more that are around this makes sense to make your “character” smart enough to the various missions you undertake and such. Despite being 3 skritt you still work like a single character with a single hit bar, its just a visual thing. Like how the norn and asura look so massively different, but they both infact have the same melee range, jump height ect.

The armor would be spread among your skritt;
Skritt one would have the helmet and gloves.
Skritt two would have shoulder and body. (they kinda have to go together to work)
Skritt three would have pants and boots.

This gives the look that the skritt scavenged the gear and just put on what they found, again tying into the lore of the race.

However with the weapon each skritt gets there own. So if you have a skritt elem then each skritt would be holding their own staff. It would be nice if there was 3 attack animations where each skritt gets to attack/cast, then when you use an ability one of the animations are chosen at random. This is real important for ranged weapons. So that it doesnt feel like one skritt is fighting while the other 2 just stand there.

However chain attacks, such as those from melee #1 skills would probably always start off with one skritt attacking then the next and the next. In the same order every time. Seeing as the chain animation has to flow.

Some animations would require all 3 skritt to attack, such as whirl attacks and leap attacks.

I think any new races/classes that come in will be a full expansion with a full storyline in similar fashion to how they did GW1 continents/expansions.
With new starting story from 1-30 or so for characters created on the continent, and 30-80 where players from current continent could just cut in from (to skip racial starting areas since they didnt start there) like how GW1 did it.

If an expansion gave 2 new races and 0 new classes… but an entire new continent to explore i would be happy, really do not feel a need for any new classes, and tbh i do not really care for new races either but an expansion with that many new areas would be good for new races i think, and if i was choosing the 2 racers.. how about for the classes a Siege Class or a Vanguard Class and for a new race an amphibious lizard like race or the Kodan?

The Professions
The Vanguard is more of a mix of the Guardian and the Warrior. it’s more focused on high health and high endurance with a wide variety of weapons. but it’s slow
The Siege Class is more a war engineer, Summoning War Golem, heavy turrets, wielding huge war hammer etc.

the races
the amphibious lizard is more focused on surviving in marshes, sow immunity against poison and/or wielding poisoned weapons, is able to slow down the movement of the opponent, can breath underwater with a speed boost with health regeneration in the water.
the Kodan: we got a Charr and a Sylvari. I mean why not the playing as a huge polar bear? they got there own homeland and culture, they could be the heavily armored hunter version of the Ranger Profession or the Vanguards

p.s. a new type of weapon would also be nice, like t a Great Axe

I’d love a new race or class, but first I’d like to have a whole new personal story with more branches (an entire orchard would be better) and a heaping helping of new zones and various other activities so that leveling this new race or class wouldn’t be like watching reruns of The Smurfs on an old TV that made the smurfs look green instead of blue.

The table is a fable.
