New Races, Classes, Weapons
Why is 80% of anet’s employers working on living story, 15% on gem store and maybe 5% on bug fixes, hud changes, balancing etc. ?
Because you’re wrong when you say you want races, classes, skills etc. What you really want is a fragmented, semi-permanent story with a cringey-akward lesbian love story at it’s center. Oh, and of course gem store weapons and outfits. Because who wants to customize their armor anyways when we can all run around looking the same, like a bunch of stormtroopers.
We just have to accept that Anet know better than their players what the players want. After all they got the almighty statistics.

What happens is players whine on the forums, and A-Net considers it, but says nothing because they don’t want to be caught with their pants down if they can’t deliver or deliver on time.
So they just say nothing at all on larger matters.
Which is fine with me. They dangled GW2 in our faces for what? 3 years before anything concrete showed up. They don’t want to disappoint people, and I’m fine with that.
I like surprises anyway.
I don’t raid, I barely fractal, and I suck beyond words at PvP and WvW.
But I try, and that’s what counts.
Race: Tengu for sure
Classes: Some kind of a heavy armor class, with medium HP pool, maybe something like a heavy version of the GW1 Dervish, with enchantments as class mechanic.
Weapon: Scythe

Did you know, that 83% of the statistics are made on the fly while a person is writing something based on nothing?
(and the other 8 elite specs maxed too)

Also, what races, classes, weapons would you like to see in the game? I myself would love to see Tengu as a playable race and weapon types such as scythes and crossbows.
New races, race change gem store item, Staff for my Ranger, xpac, WvW luv, and I would happily support again.
New weapons: 2h Axe, Scythe, Crosbow,…
Possibility to choose weapon skills among new ones.
If i can get a 2-handed wrench for my Engineer I’ll be happy
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. I’m still waiting on fist weapons, so that my Elementalist may finally become the Avatar, master of all four elements.
For what it’s worth, I’ve seen one dev jokingly say, when a two handed axe was requested, that they wanted to save something for the future. I’ve gotten the impression that they do want to add new weapons but don’t have anything to show/say about it at the moment. No clue about their stance on new races but I have to imagine that since they basically did away with the personal story, new races would probably be part of some sort of new infrastructure for telling a racial story. And as for classes, no clue on that either. With the lack of roles and considering how they conceptually merged so many of the old GW1 classes into what we have now, it would be interesting to see what they feel isn’t already done by the existing classes. So, pretty much all we can do is speculate on races and classes, but I’ve seen on more than one post that they are interested in adding new weapons in the future.
Edit: What race would I want to see? Hmmm, I love the Skritt more than I love the Tengu. Actually, I’m not fond of Tengu at all. Lemme be a dumb Skritt who can’t hold a sword right unless he’s in a party with other Skritt. Then we destroy everything.
(edited by nightwulf.1986)
Would much rather be a Tengu than a dumb Skritt any day.

Flappy bird man no take shiny! Flappy bird man……which end of pointy stick go in you to get your shinies?
I’d like dwarves more than anything. Of course, they’re turned to stone and the kitten pull would be of epic proportions to bring them back as a playable race, so I’ll concede that my wishes won’t come true.
If I can’t have dwarves though, maybe mursaat or kodan some day. I still expect Tengu to be first of the list but at least I can hold dreams while still maintaining a firm grip on reality.

Being a Mursaat would be pretty sweet. Kodan not so much what are you going to do philosophize the bad guys to death?
I’d love to be able to make a Largos character.
2 handed axes?
I doubt it, since there’s possibilities with polearms…
Many of the Spear skins are quite similar to Glaives, Halberds, Pikes, Javelins and Harpoons.
Halberds being literally 2 handed axes, but with a spear head.
Glaives are polearms with a blade as head.
Pikes are polearms that are designed for thrustinghook shaped heads and are used for pulling foes or wood running down river streams (I guess the wiki page was incorrect or vandalized at the moment).
Javelins are pretty much throwing spears, with thin spear head with only sharp tip and no hook or blades, since they’re supposed to penetrate armor when thrown.
Harpoons are pretty much your spears for underwater use…
I rarely do PvP or Hard PvE, unless it’s organized.

I just found out about Mursaat, they definitely would be fun to play kitten
Tengu, Mursaat…
(Also why is my “as” censored?)
And I say Tengu hoping for a starting area with lots of jumping in it.
There will not be new races, classes, or weapons any time soon.
Other than saying nothing is off the table, Anet has never talked about these ideas in earnest. We can only assume they are not coming.
Devona’s Rest
I’d be all for new races, classes & weapons. Would make a nice edition along with a couple of new maps. Not holding my breath though.

Well, we don’t know that all dwarves everywhere were turned to stone. There might be others. Even now they might be migrating into the areas we know. Refugees, perhaps, fleeing some disaster. Or intrepid explorers, curious to see what lies beyond the horizon.

Well, according to Anet’s lore masters, we do actually know that. It may not have been posted here, but it’s definitely been said. Every single dwarf eventally took the right, and became stone.
Edit: I"m pretty sure it was on a TowerTalk audio interview, but I no longer have the link.

Nothing a handy dandy little retcon won’t fix!
Potential Retcon #1: The Letter of the Lore — "When we said ‘every single dwarf’ we meant all unwed dwarves!’
Potential Retcon #2: The Oops of the Lore — “Oops, we forgot about the Haighheaux Dwarves! They were too busy working to get stoned.”
There are potentially many more potential retcons. Dwarves from some Top Secret Underwater Moonbase, for example. Try coming up with a couple. It’s fun!
Having 8 professions is kinda much compared to many other games. What they should improve is build diversity of the existing classes. And fix several other things before thinking about new races and weapons. And yes, I think the focus atm is way too much on the living story; I don’t know many people that care about it so much. Getting tired of those idiot Zephyrites.
Forget new classes, weapons or professions, where are the regular new skill additions that were promised more than a year ago?
Pikes are polearms that have hook shaped heads and are used for pulling foes or wood running down river streams.
Aren’t Pikes just longer and stronger spears, like the Sarissa used by Macedon. Halberds were usually used to pull foes from horses I think.

Halberds are combo of axe and spear. It’s a two handed axe, but with spear’s reach and leverage power.
Pikes are used to pull riders off their horses, while also used in wood cutting work as to direct them down streams of water. I guess I was reading vandalized or incorrect wiki pages…

A pike was essentially a long spear designed for thrusting.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pike_
The hooked polearm used for dismounting horsemen was called a Guisarme.
I would really like to see Tengu as playable race.
As far as weapons go, I want 2h axes and pikes.
For a class I do not know. Maybe some sort of heavy armour that has a long casting time on his javelin skills which allows him to have a companion do teal with mobs until they get into close range and then switch to a 2hAxe or 2hGS to fight melee. Unable to use bows, pistols it rifles.

I made a thread about that a couple weeks ago about just that but got no discussion going. Apparently not as many are interested in that avenue of addition to the game.
Grawl

Semblare – Heavy armor class. Uses harmful and beneficial auras to control the battlefield
Aura of the Savior – Allies below 30% health regenerate 500 hp per sec. 1200 range
Reavers Aura – Anytime an enemy gains a boon, they take damage. 600 range
IMO we shouldnt worry about new weapons, but our existing classes receiving existing weapons. Within the general boundaries of lore.

I’m sorry for nitpicking, but why would you put “staff” for Rangers? The most obvious addition for me would be guns and rifles.
guardians with mace offhand and a rifle.

Rifles and Pistols would have exactly the same gameplay as our Longbow and Shortbow. There is no point in adding either if you can add something like a Staff that has a lot more potential as it could be made to be another melee weapon (which we need when you consider how our 1h sword works), or Anet could throw a little bit of Druid in the game and give Rangers more support.
This game needs an xpac or it’s going to die.
This is the content veteran players really really want. Anet has proven many many many many many times that they care about the person who bought the game yesterday, not 2 years ago. I love this game to death and back but lets be serious, we wont see any new stuff for atleast 3 years
> New race is certainly out of the picture as of now, though i would love to play the hylek kodan and ogre. Though I do have this odd idea regarding the connections of races in tyria as i see it in arah…like:
jotun > norn/mursaat > sylvari /giganticus lupicus >charr (this one is laughable but yeah) / seer > human and forgotten > asura. My point is seeing if this races will return to the land of tyria would be epic awesome, other classes i think as how scarlet puts into her doodle arts are really somewhat connected obviously, and among the top choices of players when it comes to race are basically the tengu, skritt, quaggan, dwarves, hyleks. With that being said, lets just hope for the best for the anet team to really surprise us with their work and hope they make it fast.
> As for new weapons, getting new types of usable weapons could be nice like having an ele wield a “book/tome” as a weapon would look great right? guardians have them tomes! so why not an ele?, a thief that uses a “chain sickle” would be massive that i might be pushed to make one lol, “boomerang” :O would be awesome too, rangers can use boomerang as well as crossbows and “blow darts!” that hylek weapon that you can buy from an npc somewhere in game is fun to use, as for melee weapons “fist” weapons are always an option, though i would also like to see “whips” and “in land spear” weapons. But seriously, why push on variety of weapons when you can actually change the variety of “skill set attacks” that the current weapon have instead of the usual 5 which imo is getting boring by the day.
> New classes: I’ve read a lot of post that suggest the gw1 last three classes to return that of the rit/para/dervish classes, really no hate there. I for one would love the ritualist to return i even have this idea of them wielding totems and artifacts and focus and use the trinkets as a weapon instead, cause Ritualist do tap the spirit forces via urns and chants etc so why not have them use the trinkets instead im pretty sure we have ton of them in game already. I’ve read different ideas such as some dark knight/shamans/chronomancers etc. but why move far from the current lore? because i was thinking why not make a Zephyrite class(light)? sure they may be just like the elementalist but very far cause they only focus on one element which is the air element right? just use the aspects sun, lightning, wind, you can even throw in the moon if you want to for traits lol?, another class i would like to see is a pirate(med)…cause everyone would want a pirate quaggan! and of course last would be a Phalanx more of like a spearman class, or just about any profession that uses a spear as a main weapon in land, cause as long as there is no spear class that uses a spear on land that tequatl chest aint gonna be opened ever! and lastly….
I am still scratching my head on that “Monkey King mini,” though it’s a mini, I don’t quite understand why it is in game lore-wise i really don’t get it. Yet, looks to me like a new race idea, uses a bo staff for a weapon which is a new weapon and could possibly be a new class too me and more like a grawl connection than that of a human monkey one….im still confused as to why is it in game…maybe the monkey’s of maguuma has evolved too just a thought.
Boomerang. Atlatl. Blowpipe. Brass knuckles (Kilroy!). Bullwhip (yakwhip?).
Heck, why not the classic ray gun. Seems like something an enterprising asura might create. With crystal power packs that store magical energies which can be released as beams of varying effect based on which focusing lenses are used (kinda like engi kits, maybe). “Blah blah scepter and staff blah blah.” Well, blah blah right back. New animations, new skills, something at least visually different.
New racial/cultural skills —
Sylvari: Stuff Happening – the sylvari emits a mind-altering floral-scented neurotoxin which can cause an opponent to attack himself, or flee for a few seconds at the slightest hint of a breeze rustling any nearby leaves.
Norn: Call Polecat/Become the Skunk, which causes foes to flee and/or become incapacitated due to gagging. Or some sort of portable ale launcher that shoots ale into an opponents mouth, causing momentary intoxication. Alternately, the norn could take a big drink of something and gain momentary benefits. A ‘stiff drink’ skill, if you will.
Charr: The Red Dot. A device (carefully guarded secret/self destructs when a charr is defeated) worn by charr which produces a bright red dot. When a red dot is projected onto an opponent, any charr who sees it (including the charr who produced it) will immediately pounce upon that target, potentially knocking it over or interrupting it. Alternately, forgo the dot device entirely and give charr a pounce attack (or a ‘bull rush’ attack) which knocks down/interrupts a foe.
Asura: Conundrum Projector – when activated, this device analyzes the target’s behavior patterns/tactics and then projects a personalized psychoholographically distracting conundrumic image onto the retina of the target’s eye, causing the target to briefly ponder the conundrum thus presented. Highly intelligent targets might be presented with some engagingly stimulating complex differential riddle, while less intelligent target’s might see before them a choice of two nummy treats.
Human: Inappropriate Public Displays of Affection – the human activates an inflatable, barely lifelike significant other which can be pre-programmed to say things like ’O, Sweet Bee-derived Substance, you are my sunshine, my only sunshine, and should aught ill befall you, I shall surely keel over and die, die, die until I am dead from loss of your invigorating presence," which causes confusion and possibly nausea in up to ten nearby opponents (and allies).

Hahaha! I love the red dot idea. XD
From past things that the devs have said:
New weapons, or existing weapons being given to professions that don’t already have them, is something they’d like to do at some point. However, they’ve never committed to any timeline.
Expanding the race list is something that was raised as a possibility in prerelease discussions, however I don’t recall seeing even a slight indication towards that since 2012. (While every so often, Colin or some other dev does repeat that they’d like to see weapon lists expanded “sometime”. “Sometime” is a unit of time measurement that relates to “soon” more or less as “week” or perhaps “month” relates to “day”. In other words, don’t hold your breath.)
New professions are probably the least likely. ArenaNet decided after GW1 that a marketing strategy based on new professions was unsustainable, and aimed to fill every playstyle they could think of that’s compatible with GW2 in their initial lineup. They acknowledged the possibility that sometime afterwards they might find something that’s best filled by a new profession, but there’s certainly nothing they’ve held back in order to be developed later.
Mind you, there’s a world of difference between ‘new campaign every six months’ (the target for GW1) and ‘two years after release there’s no sign that an expansion is even vaguely being considered’, and all the word we’re receiving suggests that ANet thinks LS is a suitable substitute’.
Edit: I"m pretty sure it was on a TowerTalk audio interview, but I no longer have the link.
I can second this – I was looking through the TowerTalk transcripts the other day and saw the reference. Didn’t think to remember the link, though, since it wasn’t what I was looking for.
People don’t hate Scarlet like Game of Thrones fans hate Joffrey.
They hate her the way Star Wars fans hate Jar Jar Binks.
My ideas at the moment (I’ll just put one for each category for now):
Race: Tengu is easily the most plausible.
Profession: Not too sure myself, but likely a heavy armor so that there’s an equal amount across the board (three for each weight class). Maybe some kind of aggressive dark magic warrior as a counterpart to the protective magic of guardians?
Weapon: Throwing javelins, like the paragon from GW1. Elementalists would be able to wield them and throw magically-charged spears from mid-to-long range (i.e. water javelins do splash damage/healing, create tidal waves for mob damage, whirlpools to pin down enemies, etc.). Plus, it would give eles another physical-type weapon other than the dagger, which would be a nice touch in my opinion.
I’ve always wanted a Kodan. I would name him “Watches The Ledges” and park him at Jormag. Get him there at the earliest level I can and leave him to fend for himself either through gear from the TP, alt donations, or later from drops.
It would give me something to do with the hoard of boost tokens, Vault golems and BL merchants that i have never used in two years. Not to mention the zenith skins might have a good fit for a change.
If he could use a spear or some kind of pole arm that would be even better.

This sylvari neurotoxin idea is awesome!!! that’s already a hylek – sylvari concoction there! it can give stun/paralyze/ or the much hated immobilize condition that prevents evasion though that’s too racial centered. keep the ideas coming you never know when a dev/mod might pop in and read this thread!
We need an aquatic race, but I think Quaggans are bad for a playable race (don’t get me wrong,I love them, but I wouldn’t like to play as them)
Largos…hm…I don’t know but IMO they lack a lot of details, they don’t seem to be a playable race because they lack so much details,I can’t see how we could customize them, also they have Wings…if people are already mad with Charr’s tail, just imagine how it would go with wings…people would go nuts
But oh well…just imagine if ArenaNet remade them (so they would look like their art concepts) and added a Claw weapon…My thief would love that.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/7/73/Largos_male_concept_art_3.jpg
Tengu race is at least plausible. We know where they are, and their domain conveniently has a level 1 and a level 15 area right next to it, so that already almost looks like a plan.
Or it was at one point planned for release and then canned forever, who knows.
Races: I really do hope we’ll get to know more about Tengu race and the Winds of Dominion.
For me, it looks like it will be a starter area for Tengus between Lion’s Arch and Caledon Forest. WELL, I hope so.
We haven’t heard or seen that many Tengus so far, only merchants and guards.
Kodan race look so epic kitten, yet so cute. I would LOVE to play as a Polar BEAR.
Largos... I dunno, they are interesting and we haven’t seen or heard that much about these either. Well except for the female Largos during the Storyline and a few male Largos enemies and skillpoint challenge. Doubt these would become a playable race.
I’ll stick my vote with Tengu or Kodan. And Tengu are sooooo Cantha feeling~
Weapons: The only weapons I would like to see is Spears that you can use during land, not just in water but in LAND!!!!!!!!!111
Professions: I would love to see Paragons, Ritualist and Dervish again. I just hate how they ’’merged’’ Paragon profession into the Guardian. NO!! It’s still NO Paragon for me!
Paragons could be equip, Spear and Shield (well, duh?), Longbow, Longsword, Axe, Mace, Horn, Torch I guess.
And Ritualist...! I would so to play as a Rit again, they were so epic..
We can always keep hoping!

Do we know for certain if the wings are part of them, or something they wear? If the wings are indeed a part of their anatomy, maybe they can retract them/fold them somehow so they can wear the ever-popular backpacks.

If Tengu could fly that would be cool, but I’m thinking it would unbalance the jumping puzzles just a slight bit, LOL!
so yea tengu race for sure an the original dervish for sure to give a dervish heavy armor would be just way to over powered just because of the fact they have the ability to heal them selves an outrageous ammount of times also i’d have to say ritualist an paragon should come back paragon wouldnt be that hard to add into the game all they have to do is add a javalin change the skill sets for guardian when they have a javalin boom done as for the dervish i think the dervish could be added into the theifs repatuar an lastly the ritualist and of course the monk should come back to an make a new class all in its self for the both of them an call it a monk class but you can pick and choose ritualist skills with it would be pretty freaking awesome
Modremoth would have a been a great reason to bring the Tengu, [spoilers] especially with the attack on the Pale Tree so close to their own city. I don’t see any of the other dragons being as much of a threat to them.
