New non-cash shop armor sets? When?
So you want a wow style never ending gear grind?
So you want a wow style never ending gear grind?
Is that what I said? No its not, reevaluate what I wrote and write a proper rebuttle, I want new armors, and they already added a new tier so why not expand on it? I didn’t agree with Ascended gear in the first place but now that its here, they might as well go all out with it.

Uhhh, what? That’s not what he said at all. We could definitely use some new gear stats as well as some new appearances.

Didn’t they not just add more to the game in WvW merchants?
Illusionary Ally [TFD]
Devona’s Rest

That’s not at all what he/she said. Stop projecting your insecurities onto others.
In a buy to play, or even free to play, game the cash shop is the primary source of ongoing revenue generation. Putting new “skins” in the cash shop is a means of ensuring that it does not get stale and is able to continue to generate sales.
New options have been, and seem to be continuing to be, added to the game. Weapon skins in the SAB, the new gauntlets from the living story, etc. As much or more displayable gear (I am not counting civilian clothing in this) is being added to be earned in game than to the cash shop.
Ultimately you are asking for more, “free stuff,” in a game that is already adding free content, both playable and wearable, fairly frequently.
For a game that was suppose to have an emphasis on vanity, we’ve gotten very little new vanity items to strive for outside of the gem shop stuff (which has been primarily town clothes).

I tend to agree with this. I was expecting a much higher rate of armor/weapon skin addition (both in game and cash shop) than has occurred so far.

He speaks the truth.
There is very little for me as a PvE player to strive for at this point.
1) Get a higher fractal level
2) Obtain Fractal Weapon Skin
3) …
So we get a 12 day dungeon with another relatively uninteresting backpack skin and a glove skin that is the same for every armor type? I was expecting at least a full set of “other molten weapons” or a full set of armor for each armor type. Not just 2 skins.
That’s it for the PvErs this patch. Hell I could argue that WvWers got just as little or less and that the sPvPers got bug fixes and a feature that should have been there on day one (oh and a beta of a feature that should have been there since day 2.)
This patch has been dubbed by a few as the “Nerf the fun” patch. We get nothing new except a few random nerfs for abilities that were fun and needed. Why did Ride the Lightning need a nerf? At the very least if you wanted to reduce mobility while in combat it could have given the 40sec cooldown while in combat and not when we are just running around a zone or town.
Where was the “fix” for PvE “Quickness” that was nerfed so hard to the ground last month that we all still feel like it was removed just cause it was fun? Nope, what we got was some warrior buffs and a lot of nerfs.
Combine this with the addition of yet MORE daily achievements to a broken achievement system… Come on get your head on straight and realize that we need a “closed” system for achievements.
The game could definitely use more prestigious armor skins for people to go for that are so inclined.
Legendary armor even.
ATM you’ve got your legendary weapons…and then I guess the closest next thing is the glowy fractal backpiece (not too bad, but takes some work at least)
Everything else is a joke.
Well have you gotten every type of armor skin in the game as is? There are a lot of armor sets in the game that are not apart of the gem store at all and not apart of the gold system at all. Most of what has been added in is weapons the back items are the odd balls but even they are non major look items.

Pretty much all of the exotic armor feels too standard to me, because none of them take an extravagant amount of work to acquire. It’s more of a “I think I’ll choose this armor because it’s unique” (which is bad when there’s very few armor sets) as opposed to “This awesome looking armor takes a lot of work to acquire. I’ll get it to show how hard I busted my kitten for this cool piece of gear” (Fractal backpiece, minus the Ascended stats on it.)
That’s how GW1 was. Having full Obsidian armor or chaos gloves, or destroyer weapons/torment weapons means you dropped a lot of plat on something that doesn’t change your character at all gameplay wise. You got to show off being so baller yolo moneystackz that plebs would fall to their knees kissing your feet.

Well if you want things to be unique its going to cost you at least 250 lode stone for one part of the armor. The only way to make any thing unique in an mmorpg is to have high cost to that item OR use a one time event much like these living story.
Get a jetpack backpack wait 2 months then you have something unique.
The big thing is you CAN make a some what unique look by mixing armor sets.
The big thing GW1 was not a true open world game it was not an mmorpg so you would miss a lot of ppl who had such gear. You would get the feeling of being unique with out truly being unique. In GW2 there is a major open world it is a true mmorpg so you will see ppl who have every thing and ppl who have nothing running together often. You will feel less unique even if you are unique because of this.

I don’t need to get every piece of armor to know I don’t want them. There are very few exotic armor sets when compared to games such as WoW. And for anyone who says Arenanet needs money from these cash shop skins, where are you getting that from? Last I checked 60 dollars a game and a huge amount of sales= Alot of money. Not to mention they make tons of gems from everyone buying gold for all the legendaries you see. I’m sorry but I don’t believe that Arenanet isn’t rolling dosh right now.

A bit random commenting on something i did not say so i guess you where just adding it in there (anet needing money etc…).
Your right you dont need them to know if you want them or not there the preview system but out of so many sets if you cant find any thing you like i am not sure there much hope for you in the long run in any game.

I made a thread about this issue and offer a possible solution here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Aesthetics-via-Reputation/first#post1918031
I got crapped on by the community though because apparently this game isn’t about vanity and it has plenty of sets to chose from…LOL yeah ok.
It might be a bit unfair to compare a game that has been adding armor sets for 7 or 8 years to a game that has been adding them for 7 or 8 months. Patience, grasshopper. =)
Agree OP the current stuff is stale and everything added is either time gated or real money, how do they expect to keep people playing for anytime with such systems in place..
I guess they don’t..
Didn’t they not just add more to the game in WvW merchants?
Are there new sets? The last I checked, the new WvW armor sets were identical to ones you could already get from PvE. They just provided an alternate way of getting them.
+1 waiting on more versatile armor sets since I reached 80. I do understand it takes a while, with so many races and 3 sets of armor for each, but if its a lot of work, maybe allow user-submitted content for graphic designers that play this game. That way Anet doesn’t have to spend manpower on this, customers can get the content they want, and the creative community will have a blast designing new armor sets as well.
For a game that was suppose to have an emphasis on vanity, we’ve gotten very little new vanity items to strive for outside of the gem shop stuff (which has been primarily town clothes).
I know that you said new however…
Armor -
Dungeon Armor
Karma Vendor Armor
WvW Armor
Gem Shop Armor
LS Gloves
PvE Common Armor
Order Armor (Story Armor)
Cultural Armor
not to mention all the dyes that you can get ONTOP of the armor…I see plenty of vanity items. Now the problem that I’ve encountered is that there isnt any new armor that is coming out that is making me want to swap up my current Armor/Dye set.
@OP – Don’t complain about some stuff being Gem Story only, ANET uses that to keep the game up, I’m quite greatful that they allow us to trade Gold for Gems, compared to most games that don’t allow trading via the currency shop.
Ajini – Thief – Commander
so theres this thing….called gold…that you acquire in game through playing….that you can trade for gems….to get those items in the gem store
everything i have gotten in the gem store…i got through playing the game how i want to play it….and traded gold for gems….i haven’t spent a single dollar

Same here, I wanted the Quiver Skin, traded in some gold.. boom.. done.
Not sure what the problem is here, anything you want on the Gem Store can be obtained in game. Cash is only needed if you don’t have the Gold and you want it NOW. If that’s the case, then that’s on you.

Stuff like this is what leads me to believe that no one at Anet plays the game because if they did they’d see how rarely players use town clothes. Armor however….
And I’m talking legitimately good armor sets that you DON’T buy on the cash shop. Braham and Rox’s items would be perfect items to actually obtain by doing this Molten Facility thing and yet you guys punish the people actually playing the game by putting them on the cash shop. What does Arenanet have against having armors that actually take some skill to get? I don’t need a gear treadmill but please give players some incentive to play the game instead of putting everything you work on in the cash shop.
If this is going to keep up I don’t see much of a reason to continue playing, why should I still be interested when I got the dyes and armor sets that I wanted months ago? I would like to see you guys progress with the Ascended gear with actual armor pieces that are visible and not trinkets that just add numbers.
The weapon skins are UNIQUE EVENT RELATED that are COMPLETELY OPTIONAL amongst the dozens to hundreds of skins we already have in the game ALREADY ADDED IN CONTENT FOR FREE. They gave us all the unique skins related to the Super Adventure Box for free, even the Gauntlets from the Flame&Frost.
And when push comes to shove, they’ve got to make some of the content cost if players want it, because they have to make some money to pay for the TONS OF FREE CONTENT that they give us besides the MASSIVE GAME UPKEEP that they do.
But ignore all that and please, continue complaining that you want everything for free or you’ll rage quit. That’s sure to get some attention…….
It’s time they began adding both gem shop armor skins, and new non-shop skins, tbh. I am amazed that they haven’t added new skins to the shop outside of town clothes. I dont buy town clothes, I don’t care about town clothes, I don’t care about costume brawls, I don’t want to costume brawl and I don’t really know all that many players who give a crap about any content that’s exclusive to town clothing. We’d rather have armor skins! For all the resources they put into town clothes, it would be better spent on designing gem-shop armor skins, and new dungeon skin options.
For any MMO that has a cash shop, armor skins are a huge selling point. I like to collect skins from shops that I like in games I play for a long period of time, they have lost a lot of potential cash by going 8 months without new armor skins we can purchase. They talked about it pre-launch, and it really is just baffling they haven’t added any new ones since the games launch.
When it comes to in-game/non-shop armor skins…I think we’re about due for a new series of sets with a new permanent dungeon. Hopefully once this living story wraps up, and the next update comes by the end of May?

Absolutely true. We’re slowly seeing everything move to the cash shop. I would not doubt that as a fly on the wall we’d seen 80% of their development go towards the items in the store. Really.
This game was supposed to have huge amounts of cosmetic items because as gamers they understood that we want to customize our look. All I keep seeing are cutesie things in the store, none of the backpacks that people living in this age would normally wear, no hooded cloaks and as an engineer I couldn’t use them anyway because we are still limited to hobo backpacks!
And everything keeps going to either the store or the mystic toilet, so crafting really wasn’t for anything other then leveling i guess.
At least the skins are purchasable directly as opposed to being tied to the blasted RNG mystic toilet or the black lion boxes. ANet listened to us there. And on top of that, since you can exchange gold for gems, you can purchase those skins as well.
The weapons were at 800 gems a piece I believe, which roughly translated to about 25-30ish gold per right now (estimate from last nights prices). Doesn’t sound too bad when you compare to the tier 3 cultural skins at about 18g-30g each.
Sounds about right to me.

Hobo backpacks everywhere!

Thats true that is good they didn’t put these in the BL chests, but this is only the second time they’ve done that, and 3 (or 4) time where they’ve put the stuff only in the BL RNG chests.
Also, if you look at the other thread (not confirmed yet I don’t think) with the link to the reddit post of someone who datamined the latest patch, theres yet another RNG cash box thing coming.
Please give us a keyring…

They’re constantly adding new exotic weapon skins. New exotic (or any level!!) armor skins are much needed. Levels 1-50 you’ve got very few armor choices. Most aren’t available till 80 and by now they’re nothing special.

That’s all well and good, but there’s two things you should consider. If new armor is added to the Gem Shop in the form of “randomly acquired from Black Lion Chests”, then that’s not the same as “new armor has been added to the Gem Shop.”
Second, some people want to earn their new armor. Vabbi armor in Guild Wars, for example, took considerable effort to earn. It presented many players with a challenge/goal to work for. Plopping down a credit card or dumping a bunch of gold isn’t quite the same. To put it another way, “T-Rex doesn’t want to be fed. He wants to hunt.”
