I know im still leveling, but as an engineer norn its depressing to be bound to coats the entire trip. Im lvl 51 and have been in mid to long jacket since level 1. My elementalist friend has had varied outfits and actually got to see his pants.
Im hoping they allow medium armor to be more diverse going forwards…and it’d be nice to see something other than coats during the leveling journey.
This is not just you as a new player. People have brought this up since…. well… forever. Many a medium armor user is tired of coats and wish for greater variation.
Life doesn’t stop being funny just because the dead can’t laugh.

We have trenchcoats and then we have trenchcoats. Which would you prefer? LOL
I actually had my toon go around pant/shoeless for a while to remind myself it actually had legs under there somewhere.
The designers of the medium armor must have an anti-leg fetish.

Please, we need some actual shirts with NOTHING hanging down below the waste, especially for the Charr, because while the long coats do get old on humans or norns, they are absolutely ridiculous on a Charr! Not to mention the awful tail clipping.

Seconded

My medium armor wearer has one of the few non “trenchcoat” models in the game . . . so, there is one at least . . . in other words, I agree, there need to be more coat-less armor models. I actually like alot of the armor models (even the “coated” ones), but a bigger variety is always better.

Whoever designed the armor in this game reeaalllyy likes long skirts with the front part open and trench coat type armor. It’s not that the look is bad, it’s just that there are so few other options. The lack of variety is boring. Too many sets of armor look the same.

Designer: “Hey Mike so what style do you want for medium armors?”
Mike O’Brien: “We could make a trenchcoat, and…”
Colin: “And then… make a trenchcoat again!” whole studio stands up and applauds
We all do as we must to make our way in this world and unfortunately,
we have to do things others may qualify as “evil”.

Thank you so much for making my day. You deserve a big quaggan kiss

I agree. Of all the armor in the game, I think medium armor is the ugliest, least flattering, least imaginitive, and least diverse.
You know, you guys all say that, but I disagree entirely. For example, Scouts leggings (tier 1 human) when dyed faded blue, are literally jeans with a belt and some fancy faded stripes. In my opinion, the things that make some of the medium armor so cool is that they’re believable.
Out of all the armors in the entire game, this is my favorite piece of armor. Because nothing is cooler than a stylish pair of jeans.

Yeah, we like the jeans too. But we can barely see the freakin jeans because too much trench coat covers them especially when you’re a chaaaarrrrr!!!

Ironically as having an heavy armor based I would kill for just 1 coat
More something between the bikini and the trench coat, like the tier 1 cultural but with more variation because, unlike the leather bikini, it looks like it’s only suitable for indoor use.
The main problem with the coats and skirts is that they look like upside-down trumpets, the karma coat would be cool if it was straight.
For a human female, I count 4 armors that DON’T have a split front coat or short skirt like affair, it leads me to believe that those responsible for design of medium armor have no imagination for a fantasy setting.
Fornicate like you’ve never fornicated before.
I am anti-censorship, for it doesn’t make sense to pander to a minority.
Yep, it’s depressing. Heavy armor is plagued with butt skirts and light armor has only like one or two pair of pants total (for males). Everything else looks like a dress.
Toons: Foreseer, Geikamir, Rapscallion, Specimen, Scythian, Zeau, Ärtifact, and Replica.
Hopefully as they open up the other regions with other cultures we’ll have a much wider variety in looks. Elona, Cantha, etc.. There are very few leather armors that look great for girls tbh, most of it feels like we just kind of deal with it being made for guys.
I have said it before and I will say it again; Give us a lot of different leather curiasses and such to go with all the pants we are not able to see! And make the medium armor pants more interesting, because I have seen them without the coat and they are usually just some simple looking pants. Understandable, since they are always hidden under those coats.
I like coats and all, but some variation would be wonderful.
My female human archer took whisperers top, looks like she is going out to a elegant evening and just stopping by to kill a few unruly mobs, but it is better than most trench-coats.
it’s funny because in GW1 people were complaining there wasn’t enough coats, now in GW2 we have lots of coats and we’re complaining there’s not enough non-coat armour
i too would like to see more choice rather than coat/skirt looking armours, this is even going into heavy and light, so many skirts on guys lol
Lots of armor in this game is just so boring and lackluster. Im still surprised at the amount of it in a game that was suppose to be about nonvertical progression. Or the lack of cool looking armor in the cash shop on a ftp game.

Well the question isn’t whether or not some players like coats, because of course some people do. The issue is how little options (almost none) there are for people that don’t.
Toons: Foreseer, Geikamir, Rapscallion, Specimen, Scythian, Zeau, Ärtifact, and Replica.
Yes, trenchcoats can be awesome. However, trenchcoats and nothing but trenchcoats (or the leather bikini top) makes for a terrible selection, which is not awesome. More variety is definitely the way to go!
Past that, I would really like to see more sets of actual medium armour rather than just heavy leather clothing. The Vigil set is about the only one that looks like armour. Besides, typically on hearing the terms I would imagine
Heavy armour – plate and chain
Medium Armour – chain, scale, studded leathers
Light armour – leather, hide, padded
Clothes – well…clothes
Where GW2 is much more Metal, Leather, Fabric than any sort of heavy, medium, light.
As I ranger I don’t feel very “rangery” in my medium armor choices. I think it would be great to see some more variety and options.
I see a lot of light armor wearers in cities and they seem to have a lot of options with the dyes that look really nice.
And I’m a female gamer and female ranger. Gimme some fur lined bustiers and some leather pants and small, form fitting boots please. Maybe a leather vest. Or viking inspired leather stuff. Give me something to use all these great dyes on.
Just don’t give me trench coats or coats of any kind please.
