People have to whine. I am finding no problem with my new character I am leveling.* I have unlocked many of the traits just by doing – unless you just want to do it by crafting (boring).*

They are not hard and this is a nonissue really.

You can’t unlock traits by crafting >.>

I know that but you can level by crafting. Also doing a Karma train. I guess the idea is to make sure people explore all that GW2 is. The same was for GW1 – the Elites were all over and some places were a pain to get to.

Which is a great idea in theory, but it breaks the “play how you want to play” notion when you make people hunt for a core aspect of their class.

I have to say, I’ve just hit 80 and I’m enjoying trait hunting. It’s fun, and it would have been a cool way to keep the feeling of progression going past 80.

However, this was not worth making the levelling process significantly less fun. It is also far too important a system to lock out, and it kills build diversity and experimentation.

If they introduced new traits/skills (or, at least, unlocked adept traits by default), then this is a great idea that adds depth to gameplay and character building. It also undoes some of the current focus on grinding up a character as fast as possible, then diving into the fastest gold train available (with CP and EotM these overlap). Making people more invested in their characters is a good thing, and hunting for skills/traits is a really cool GW1 idea.

The new system though just makes levelling so much worse. The higher tier unlocks, the lack of ability to build your character. It just makes the “rush to 80 to start the real content” and the “pick a meta build and do nothing else” mentality even worse.

What about WvW/PvP players ?
I don’t want to PvE + map exploration . I find fighting AI super boring and the less the better.
We also earn less gold than PvE players so 40g is a huge amount of gold.
From my perspective their is absolutely no benefit to the new traits system expect the fact that you can re-spec freely (which was not really expensive to begin with).

Unfortunately, this is supposed to be advice to new players or even old players with new alts.

“Go run EOTM train”
“Just buy the traits and be done with it”

It’s horrible to see that so many are so comfortable with the back pedaling on Anet’s part. This is ignorance reminiscent of the NA’s volatile and toxic political environment.

It’s a kitten shame that Anet dictates how we should play and the rousing rabble of support in lieu of such horrible changes.

Truly dark times.

I like the new way to acquire traits :-P I just wish it was like this from the start so no one could complain. This gives your character some horizontal progression and I can’t wait for more and more new traits to acquire (I can hope :-P )

It really brings back skill collection from gw1.. Now if only they made it so skills were acquired this way too… Then I’d truly be happy ^.^

Slow down and smell the pixels.

Well if you know gw1, as you say…

“Traits” worked similar to attribute bonuses and there was no need for any sort of “attribute acquiring” system other than leveling itself.

You are right about the healing skills, utility skills, and elite skills. They should have been acquirable/bought from the start.

Sadly, mobs in this game don’t use the same skills as we do and very rarely do you find similar parallels between mob and player skills. So it wouldn’t work out unless mobs were completely redesigned from the ground up, including better AI.

In retrospect, they really squandered some great ideas from gw1…
