No Grind -- The Quote
No it had a skill treadmill and people grinded levels to level up their skills. So on a skill it’s okay but on gear (that makes less of a difference and you don’t actually need) it’s okay?
PUG AC Path 2 naked with white non-max weapons. Or any dungeon path really. Or survive one of Scarlett’s invasions. Nobody grinded levels in GW1 to level up their skills. There was nothing to spend skillpoints on other than the occasional conset (contrast the cost in skillpoints of just one GW2 Legendary), and in the metagame most builds were very similar, such kitten Nuker Necros or Panic Mesmers, which meant with the number of skillpoints accrued via natural leveling and gameplay one could possess most of if not all meta builds easily.
Plus, if ANet wanted to re-balance the meta, they simply altered some skills, leaving weapon damage alone. Continually adding higher tiers of gear when a whopping amount of actual skills are still bugged/unbalanced will only exacerbate the balance issues in the game. I mean, a full year after release and the trait system, the BASIS of GW2 builds and gameplay diversity is still broken and bugged to some extent for all classes, and some really get the shaft.
ANet needs to stop adding crap like Rox and Braham into the game (honestly who cares about her stupid devourer?) and fix the bugged class features and get a semblance of real balance going so that classes like Engineer, Elementalist, Necromancer and Ranger are brought up to par with some of the more recognized dominating classes, across all game modes, which means fixing the Warrior in sPvP and the like. But as long as ANet keeps pumping out stuff like the SAB (OOH SHINY) we’re distracted like raccoons with tinfoil, with coincidental associated items in the Gem Store that all of a sudden provide a distinct advantage (Infinite Continue Coin).
Nobody did what? No one ever advertised for a group for rank 8 ursans? No one ever ground out Luxon points to get Save Yourselves up so they could get in a group as an imbagon paragon for DOA. No sin ever leveled up the Sunspear skill so he could be a permasin (until it was finally nerfed).
Reality check for you. Those PvE only skills were far more powerful than anything else in the game. That’s why Anet limited you to 3 of them. And if you don’t think people grinded up levels to get the max damage out of Pain Inverter or more seconds on Technobabble…you’d be completely wrong about that.
And those skills made a much larger different on the game than 10% in stats that you don’t need to do any of the content.
GW2 started being about aesthetics.
We had legendaries, we had dungeon set gear with cool appearances.
However, they decided that they needed one more tier: ascended. Fair enough.
But in order to get that new said tier, you need to grind, mindlessly. Just that.
Those items should have the current grindy way untouched, but they should also be acquired by coordination content. Maybe give an ascended weapon for a dungeon master?
Anyways, GW2 has a very sad thrend: It is a grindy game, that doesnt reward hard content.
In fact, you barely will have anywhere to use those ascended gears. They view on “hard” are just dmg scaling/one shot mechanics.
Ascended wasn’t planned from the start. I think that explanation of Ascended is no longer fashionable.
Instead, it seems exotics were meant to be top tier, but people managed to get to them quicker than ArenaNet expected. They wanted exotics to take longer to acquire. So they introduced a new tier and made sure that this gear was time gated and hard to acquire.
How this meshes with older quotes… I don’t know. I don’t think the ease of access to exotics was the problem. The issue was that the PVE content wasn’t demanding enough for people to try different builds/sets and so they got their one exotic set and quit. The majority of the GW2 userbase do not have the familiarity with horizontal design that some of the GW1 playerbase does. They never bothered with changing up builds because the PVE content didn’t demand it of them. So ANet needed something to occupy their time.
So we get time-gated busy work.
Unfortunately, this is the nail in the coffin for horizontal progression players. The ease of access to exotics was not a problem for us. Actually, it was a good thing to players like us. Now ArenaNet is moving away from that. It doesn’t matter in PvE (yet, but give elitists time), but it does matter in WvWvW.
“Anyways, GW2 has a very sad thrend: It is a grindy game, that doesnt reward hard content.”
They backed themselves into this problem. If you put these Ascended rewards behind difficult content then you split the playerbase. They’re trying to create a reward and tier that’s hard to get without putting it behind any content that most of the population can’t access. Therefor, you won’t ever have better rewards for harder gear, because that leaves behind the people who can’t do the harder content.
The problem is that the only way you can reward everyone equally while still making the reward hard to get is to time-gate the reward and make it grindy.

People … it’s time to say farewell to Guild Wars 2. Tag me if you know another good f2p mmorpg to play instead (i’m 100% serious, can’t keep up with this grinding crap forever).
And you’re going to find a free to play MMO with less grinding?
That’s pretty funny. Good luck with that.
GW1?
Not an MMO. Try harder.
GW2 has the least grind of all commercial AAA MMOs I’ve played. As for GW1, let’s not forget the amount of money or time it took to fill the HoM, let alone max Luxon. But it was all well spent.

Ah well GW2 my first and last MMO ever then.
People that keep falling back on that no grind statement are like people that take the bible literally. Annoying.
So by “we don’t make grindy games,” what would you say he really meant, if not the obvious literal meaning?
Can’t believe people are STILL kittening about grind in GW2. Since November this topic has been run into the ground and beat hundreds of times to death and here we are….September of the next year and you STILL keep complaining.
If ANet really felt they were wrong the way you insist they are, they wouldn’t continue with what they’re doing, including Ascended gear. Seriously. Get over it.

I never complained about grind until this patch. And its hitched to SAB which I already don’t like.
I think everyone was fine with ascended rings, amulets and accessories despite being time gated. The grind for weapons increased grind exponentially and forget it if you want multiple sets of ascended weapons.

I’m not a fan of gear grind either…which I why I don’t grind for gear. I’ll get it when I get it. I’m not at 500 crafting yet for any one of the professions and I probably won’t be for another month…and that’s okay.
Because I don’t need this gear to play the game. I’ll do quite fine without it. And when I get it, I’ll get it.

Oh, man the tears
I never once grinded for a legendary. Not even a bit. I got the predator as a drop from the Karka event in november. The dungeon runs…well you know…they’re dungeon runs. I’d do them anyway, because people in my guild want to run dungeons.
The WvW badges, they drop if you play WvW (and now with achievement chests they’re a joke). The karma came from playing the game quite naturally. I have more karma than I know what to do with.
The hardest bit were the mats…my wife helped with some of that, because she likes to collect stuff, and I gather wherever I go, because it’s mindless…but I don’t farm. On the way to other stuff, I gather. No big deal.
In the end, I acquired a lot of gold from just playing. Selling stuff that I got…not wasting too much money on stuff…and I bought the mats I need.
Oh the second precusor I got was 25 gold on the marketplace.
Laugh all you want…I don’t grind.
Yu-huh, im still laughing, though tears have stopped now.

Id say after 5 max level characters, 3 decked out in exotics and ascended (ascended up through accessories that is), 1100+ played in the game…I can say that I know “how” to play GW2. And I still havent accumulated the wealth needed for a precursor, or the luck needed to get a drop.
You picked up a 25 gold precursor. You seriously can’t compare your 25 gold precursor to most of the other ones, such as spark, the lover, dusk, etc. When you say “I dont grind, and I acquired a precursor(that cost 25 gold)”, you lose all credibility.
Let the ascended weapons drop already, crafting everything usefull in a game is a bit too much like work. I’d like to play games to have some fun Anet, remember fun…

I’ve been very public about how and where I got both my precusors. I’ve also said that I wouldn’t have cared one way or another. If a precusor hadn’t dropped, I’d still be playing the game and waiting for one. And I know for a fact it wouldn’t affect my game at all, because I’m not gear driven.
My first legendary, the only land one, is on a character I don’t even use. It’s just not that important to me. It’s not why I play.
Making comments about my credibility when you clearly have no idea of what’s been discussed does nothing for yours.
To me, a game is only a grind if it requires it to enjoy all the content. In WoW, you had to do the same raid over and over and over and over again till you got your gear so that you can enjoy the next raid, that was a grind. In fractals you get enough ascended gear naturally by just going through the fractal levels, and even then you don’t need ascended gear for the first 10 levels of the Fractals, and there are only 10 different levels of fractals. So after completing the first 10, you have seen it all, and every other time after that is ramping up the difficulty of the same 10 dungeons.
So again, no need to grind to enjoy all the content this game has to offer. Not having Ascended or Legendary gear is not going to stop you from enjoying and completing all content that this game has. This is in contrast to other MMOs where you are required to have certain gear in order to enjoy and complete content, and more often than not you have to repeat the same content over and over and over again to get that gear.

One weapon out of a fixed RNG stat set. 90% chance to get a stat you don’t want. So generous. Even with 7 chars.

Can people please stop qq’ing over a gear grind! You just need exotic gear to do most of the harder stuff in the game and for Fractals you don’t need the ascended weapons. If you don’t like the way you obtain these weapons, then don’t bother, you don’t need them!
Just play the parts of the game you like and if you don’t like any of them, play another game!

Well, if you don’t like the QQ threads, you can just don’t read them?
So with all the complaining about how ascended gear is time consuming to get for the upcomming weapons crafting of it, I take it people think they should just get the new stuff off the bat?
Plus whakittens gonna take like 2 weeks or so to get it made with having daily crafting components and such, personaly I do not feel this is done to ruin the game I feel its done to make getting it a little more involved and doing it in a way that noone can just 24/7 rush the game and lets even people who play little like 2 or 4 hours a day personaly I see nothing wrong with this.
It is not so easy as you described. Sure the 2 weeks remain, but look at the things you have todo in this weeks.
What you need for ascended weapons (sorry, the link is in german, there is no such english list yet, go to “Hierarchische Auflistung” and click on the the “[Ausklappen]”): http://wiki-de.guildwars2.com/wiki/Aufgestiegene_Waffe
Look at the needed components:
Dragonit Ore: only from Temples in Orr, Word-Bosses, or Fortress in WvW)
Bloodstone Dust: only from Champions Loot Bag
Empyreal Fragment: Dungeon, Fractale, Jumping Puzzle, Towers and Camp in WvW
—-
Not everybody like all this content. But now you have to do ALL of this, to get your mats (or you buy some of the components from TP) AND you have to do your dailies everytime you are online to have some recipes you would like to craft.
This all clear says for everybody: “you have to play this game as we want, that you play this game!”
Sure, we still can see this relaxed and say: “don’t care so much, with time i will get my ascended weapon”. Yes … but, before of the end of the year we will get ascended armour too. And from that point on, you are gated. You will have the feeling your equip isn’t the best anymore and that will be true. One weapont do not make much difference but a whole armour and weapon(s) and jewells do.
Take a monent time and look at what you need to equip just one of your Chars with the equivalent ascended weapons as you now use as exotic. (for example all of my 80-es have more than one weapon and weapons-sets).
There are 17 ascended Inscriptions and there are 17 ascended weapon typ recipes for each wepon you can craft. No need to know all of the recipes, sure. But if you just use 3 diffent weapons and all of them two times (with diffrent starts) you will need 30 Laures. So you will have to do your dailies at least for 20 days and your monthly. And that just for one Character with a very limited number of weapons.
What if you have 3 or 4 or more Level 80 Character?
What will be the time you will need to eqip them like they are edquipped now with full exotic and with two or more different sets (armour, weapons and jewells)?
This game was a bit grindy yet, but now, this game is all about grinding, regadless if you like to hear it or not.
I’m not angry or otherwise frustrated about the changes, i just see and say clear what this game become. Everething else would be self-deception.
So WoW and GW2 are pretty much same, since all you need top gear for are latest raid/fractal.
Thank you.
In WoW, you have to do the same raid over and over and over and over again, to get the gear you need (always at the same difficulty, actually the raid is easy once you have completed it one time). In the fractals, you do not need to stay on the same level and play it over and over and over again to get the gear needed to get to the next level. In the fractals, you will get the gear needed to complete the subsequent levels without having to repeat the same level over and over and over again.
So no; not even close to being “pretty much the same”
You grind same fractals over and over again. Funny thing is, when they finaly raise agony (levels) you will still grind same fractals over and over again while in WoW you at least got new raid
You still do not need to repeat the same level over and over again to continue onto the next level. Also, if you are only interested in playing through the content, no ascended gear is needed to see all 10 levels, you do the subsequent levels if you want to challenge yourself, but you are not required to stay on levels 1-10 till you get gear to get to level 11. Fractals are still not a grind, WoW raids are a grind, Fractals are not. You do not need to grind in order to see all the content, and you do not need to grind in order to see the next level of difficulty, this is the complete opposite of WoW.
Can you tell me what AAA MMOs you have played longer than one or two months?
For me, it is:
WoW, Tera, GW2, Neverwinter, Rift (all longer than two months).
GW2 has the most grind, by far. Tera is a close second, but I still give it to GW2.This is personal opinion, you cannot state something that has so many variables. I have 3 legendary weapons, 3 level 80’s and all decked out in mostly exotic/ascended gear, all professions and 3 extra level 400’s.
In WoW I was only ever able to grind to max gear 2 times before new tier was introduced. I only ever got one legendary weapon and spent 4-5 years getting it. I’m sorry but it’s not even close. GW2 is by far the less grindiest MMO I have EVER played. But that is my opinion, it’s not a fact, don’t spin your web of lies spider man.
Like fairy tales much?
Sorry, I’m talking to someone who actually played WoW, even for a short time, not you.

Its exactly the same, even worse as i have described above.
best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base.”
If you guys only knew about FFXIV’s Relic Weapons. The process to make a Legendary in GW2 cannot compare to all the grind you have to do to ATTEMPT (you can fail and lose months of your life) to craft a Relic.
I have had lots of fun playing the game and as some would say “grinding,” but I just feel that I’m playing. Someday I will get my legendary, when I’m able to get the precursor, but for now I’ll get ascended weapons, which are in fact, extremely easy to make.
As for Vayne’s precursors, last year you could buy some precursors at prices as low as 10g, so it’s entirely possible.

Uh-huh.

Yu-huh, im still laughing, though tears have stopped now.
“i have 2 legendaries but i dont grind…AT ALL”
ahhahahahahhahaaah
SO TRUEE!!im laughing and tearing up as well T^T.Or maby buying all the mats will real money through tp if that’s not the case.
Or learning how to actually play the game….that works too.
Sorry I cant keep track of everyone’s gear and where they got it from, even if you’ve said it in a thread before.
Currently people are either really lucky from a drop or the forge, or spend gold on the AH. Or they were one of those people who benefited from the karka event fiasco.
Most of the playerbase is subject to spending a ton of money in the AH for a precursor, or getting really lucky.
Just sayin…

How is WoW grindy? Did you play during WOTLK? My god everyone had epics. Evverryyonneeee. 10 man and 25 man raids. You can literally burn through ICC in one or two nights without breaking a sweat. I had a rogue, druid, mage, and warlock.. all running the ICC raids, that tournament of champion raid..all with various amounts of epics. Not to mention the crap you got from heroic dungeons and crafting. It was just rediculous the amounts of BiS gear one could accumulate. The bosses in WoW dropped two or three epics each, and you were competing with MAYBE one or two people for the items, if they needed the same one as you at all.
In GW2, this is time gated. And its a grind. Its not fun to kill things over and over and hope for specific materials to drop. Being part of a zerg, a nameplate in a swarm of players pounding a troll into submission..(at least I think its a champion troll, I cant tell with the hundreds of effects going on). Boring. Grind. Boring.
Yes, opinions vary. Especially if you don’t have your glasses on.
Okay, explain this. If I’m gear driven, why is one legendary an underwater weapon and the other on a character I retired?

How is it not an mmo? It’s massively multiplayer, online, AND an RPG. What am I missing here?
