Didn’t bother reading ALL of the posts, but seeing as a lot of people don’t like FotM and maybe some other things that are required to acquire the backpiece, why then give the main ingredients as ’’rewards’’ to players who then decide not to get into the process of crafting the backpiece and find the items just useless junk?

Why not give something everyone would like, or something that would have multiple ways to acquire so that everyone would be able to get it, since it’s supposed to be some kind of a ’’reward’’ for the LS? Or maybe why not putting these seeds, ley line stones and such to be sold by a vendor in exchange for geodes for example? That way people who actually decide to craft the backpiece just buy them.

Just wondering. No need for any spiteful replies.

EDIT: Basically what Stooperdale said.

You were given the stuff during the living story, and are easily able to make the Exotic version of the backpiece. Everything past that is completely optional. Anet has stated multiple times that Ascended items are meant to be long term goals for players. They’re not meant to be gained overnight (via timegating and the mass of necessary materials), regardless of the fact that people can and do get around that, and are an optional goal for people that want to pursue it. The fact remains that Exotics are the de facto level 80/end game items, and they’ve provided a perfectly reasonable route to getting the Exotic version of the backpiece.

If you think 5 Pristine Fractal Relics is a steep entry point to ascended, try the minimum of 24 Bolts of Damask (that’s 7200 silk scraps) for ascended armor, or 1850 fractal relics for the ascended fractal backpiece. It’s a long, painful process for 5% better stats over Exotic, which really isn’t noticeable in everyday game play. I understand that people want the newest thing, but expecting it to be easy, or done a few days after it’s available isn’t realistic. Be happy you got a nice Exotic backpiece on the cheap, just for playing through some LS stuff.

Right. It’s impossible to make something EVERYONE would like. I guess I didn’t word that right. I meant something along the lines of that it would appeal to a larger crowd. More or less the way of acquiring it, since it’s hard to please everyone (especially in GW2, I read complaints on almost every new armour/weapon/backpack that’s released).

Not a native speaker, as you might’ve already guessed (or not). :d

And EDIT: I’m not complaining about FotM, I’ll do them if I must. I am even planning on doing them sometime in the future for around 3/4 of FotM achievements I’m still missing. I just feel bad/sorry or something for people who really dread venturing into FotM. I guess I’m just kind of a goody two-shoes by nature. xD

Glad I never started on this, maybe they should have let people know ahead of time that this would eventually require fractals? :x I don’t know how, but, ah well.

Thing is it isn’t a nice exotic backpiece it’s a POS and I would not have wasted the time or mats on it if I had known upfront that that was all I would be getting for the time and mats invested, I would have sold the mats and moved on and I sure wouldn’t have wasted my time on it. Waiting until after players invested so much into making the Vine to spring it on them that the Backpack worth having required Fractals was a crappy thing to do to players, would have been so hard to require the Mist Stone on the Vine? I for 1 would not feel like I had been tricked and cheated. I know I’m not expressing myself well but this has left me feeling used and I don’t like it, at all.

I have to agree with the OP’s sentiment. I hate dungeons because this game takes any skill out of it with means of stacking and FGS and because I’m not a fan of doing intimate groupings with people I don’t know towards something which can lead to frustration. I do dungeons with my guild occasionally as a fifth, but fractals is a dungeon I absolutely despise. Luckily, I have 5 pristine relics from the times I have done it, but I would be pretty kittened if I didn’t have those because I might do the dungeon once a month.

Didn’t like the idea of including fractals – for the infused version of course makes sense. Anyway, did 2 of 5 today, (before and after reset). I had the definite feeling 4/5 people in each group didn’t really want to be there and won’t go back after they have the 5 relics. There are too many choices for people these days to tick off your player base. Having alternate paths to please the most people would have been a better design IMHO…..

On the bright side – group 1 was pleasant enough and included 1 vet with the patience of a saint. Still not happy, but if will slog through 3 more….

Not cool. What happened to ‘play how you want’? The supposed motto of GW2 from day 1… I can’t play how I want because I’m forced to do something I don’t want to do!!!

  • You’re not forced to do anything. Having or not having a skin makes zero impact on how you kill mobs. “I can’t kill mobs because I’m not stylish enough!” is not an argument, even for Kasmeer.

This argument doesn’t work.
You’re right. People are not forced, but when you create content that discourages players to even attempt it, then it’s bad design.

What is exactly that “content that discourages players to even attempt it” again? It’s not Liadri. It’s a set of mini dungeons with predefined rules and guides on the Internet, scaling from the lowest difficulty. I started doing Fractals as a 1000 AP noob staff condi (!) mesmer with my 1000 AP friends and PUGs and we had no problems advancing to 10 and beyond whatsoever. All I see is “when you create content I don’t like doing, it’s bad design”, sorry.

You should realize this is an “end-game” reward. So, no, it doesn’t make an impact on how to kill mobs, but it does make an impact on what to expect from future end-game rewards. Players will end up deciding if GW2 is worth their time and investment, when the content they do like, is being sidelined for content they don’t enjoy.

Endgame legendaries require full map completion, Mystic Forge gambling, dungeon grinding and mat grinding. The new multi-stage endgame backpack requires 5 level 1 Fractal runs. That’s definitely setting a horrible precedent for future endgame and we should carefully think if we should play the game at all now!

I am more than willing to put in the time and effort, just give me another way to get the Mists Stone. Same difficulty. Different Method.

When they give it to you, you come to forums and say it’s too hard. You don’t ask for something of “the same difficulty” because it will be equally frustrating you, you ask for something that is difficult for somebody else but easy for you. That is the problem of the thread.

20 level 80s and counting.

You’re right, no one is making me get this item. But I WANT IT BADLY. And when you want something badly, you’ll do almost anything to get it. Almost. Everything. Almost. Emphasis on almost.

So then you can almost have it.

Probably more than most players. But fractals I will NEVER do again. I gave it multiple go’s but still hated it – why can’t people just accept that I don’t like it?

Everyone accepts that you don’t like it. The difference is no one accepts that your dislike of fractals provides a reasonable expectation to change the recipe to craft the item. Why can’t you accept that the recipe is what it is and you can take it or leave it?

And sorry but I am being forced to do content I don’t like. Tell me, is there another way to get the Mists Stone? No. So stop telling me I’m being lazy and just need to suck it up people.

How are you forced? Will you be locked out of future events or content if you fail to acquire this item? No, so stop telling me you are forced to do anything.

Like I have said, multiple times, but I will repeat myself…

I am more than willing to put in the time and effort, just give me another way to get the Mists Stone. Same difficulty. Different Method.

Hope that sinks in now. And hopefully people will stop accusing me of being lazy. How would you like it if you were forced to do something you absolutely despise with a passion, and then get a ton of players claiming you’re lazy? Wtf? They obviously didn’t read my posts…

You might or might not be lazy, this neither disproves that theory nor proves it. What this outburst proves is you are more than willing to embarrass yourself when your sense of entitlement collides head on with reality.

Either way, I’m just going to leave this thread. Too many people claiming I’m lazy and that I just need to get with the program without even realising my point of view or reading my posts fully. Thanks to those who actually understand things from my perspective – especially those who do fractals.

Your mistake, again, is that you believe that since we disagree with you that we aren’t reading your posts or understanding your point of view. On the contrary, everyone reads your posts. Everyone understands your point of view. We simply reject it because it’s illogical and immature.

For now, I’m done. Anet probably won’t change a thing and I will just have to learn that in the future, if there is something I want, I will just have to leave it for a few weeks and wait to investigate what it requires before attempting to get it, because I might be extremely disappointed with the acquisition of it, especially if it forces me to do content I don’t like, such as fractals – I hate it so much in fact, that I’d rather stick my head in a fat vat. I know what the trolls are thinking “Don’t start people pleasing now”. Don’t worry, I’m not coming back to my thread.

This is the first mature position you’ve taken yet in this thread.
