Q:

Hey there, long time MMO’r / Gamer just coming off a long hiatus of games due to University.

I sort of just purchased GW2 because I saw how cheap it was, browsed some YouTube videos and read some forums posts, I just have a couple questions before my download completes.

- Playerbase, declining / increasing?
– Still new player friendly?
– Suggested class for someone who likes being “In your face and everywhere”
– Any helpful hints of tips for a person starting out for the first time

Thank you!

- Playerbase is steady? We have no real numbers but I still see quite a few people (ones that I know and other random people) when I log in so for me it’s ok I guess?
- Yes
- Warrior, Ranger, Thief and Elementalist fit both criteria. Guardian, Engineer (using Bomb Kit) and Necromancer fit the first part.
- Learn to dodge. This one’s rather important otherwise you’ll die. Also check out these threads. Some of the advice may be a little out of date but they’re both pretty solid -

Playerbase seems to be about stable, but due to the megaserver architecture you’re not likely to feel alone.

The game is more new player friendly than most because they don’t keep adding new tiers of gear all the time. People in my guild have taken a year break, come back and run dungeons with us.

The easiest profession at this point in time I think is the ranger. You can’t really go wrong with a warrior or guardian either.

If you’ve played a lot of other MMOs, this one is different in a few ways. It’s not a race to get to max level when the fun begins, because most of the stuff you do at max level is the same sorts of stuff you do while leveling.

The game really isn’t centered around dungeons, but more about open world events. Naturally I’m talking about PvE here.

Hit me up in game if you have any questions.
