Anet is greedy? Okay. I guess the free monthly content I’ve been playing I’ve been paying for. Oh Anet is greedy for selling a couple of dances.

There are definitely some things I haven’t agreed with in the cash shop but dances aren’t among them. Dances are fair game.

I’d rather just to be able 1 of the dances instead of all 3. Compared to other games this game seems pretty generous with their prices. In TERAble it would cost at least $10 for a chance for a special dance (rng boxes). …But anyways, I’m still not buying it.

I wish there was more emotes like GW1’s guitar, violin, flute, drums…<3 those ones

The game has many emotes, the only ones I ever use are /sit, /wave and /bow.

People have been begging for months on end that Anet would add more fun and fluff to the store- we are getting our wish.

Personally I think it is great, I ran into someone with the dances to day and was invited to dance, it was a nice surprise.

I was also really jelly when I realised that I couldn’t really afford it with ingame gold and then I saw the other stuff….. oh boy now I am just green, I want all of it.

Don’t EVER play Lotro. Just saying.

The majority of emotes can be earned in game – just saying.
Now – I can’t go back to that style of play – raise reputation etc with daily quests and so on – but Lotro is actually very generous with how points are earned and what you are able to earn during their seasonal festivals etc. The most generous I’ve come across yet.

I have no problem with emotes being offered in the store here – even if exclusively. Two things I would like to see improved:

- don’t make emotes an item that has to be carried in your bag
- try and find better balance for some one-in-a-million “items” hidden in the chest

“Whose Kitten is this?” – “It’s a Charr baby.”
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”

Bought the dances and the new shorts and the lion and the new shirt around 12am last night the very moment I saw them go up.

These are EXACTLY the kinds of things I’ve wanted to see for sale up there.

Still want shorts like that and that shirt in both medium and light armors. Hapy but I want them to take more of my money… oh, and charr dreadlocks like Rox.

BUT at the same time the OP has a point in that the game shipped with about half the core built in animated emotes of what it should have had… and I don’t like them as inventory items I need to equip to use.

Let me /dance 3
- I had keybinds like that in city of heroes to swap around emotes and dances on the fly.
I can’t reasonably pop these new dances out before or after a fight (or even during, not that I would… except that I have…)

emotes are not sold. You can buy 3 dances for 400 gems that came with the SAB box of fun. I guess they were moved to the store because a) sab box of fun won’t last forever b) some people wouldn’t want to exchange the dance that they have. I much prefer my free asura dance to the new dances.
I would say selling dances and pets is a fair trade. Especially when you can convert gold to gems.

Personally I like the option of buying new things in the store. Some of the things I don’t care for, so I don’t buy them, simple as that. However saying that ANet is greedy by selling these things is silly, they’re not requiring you to buy these things, they’re just putting them out there. You can still play this game for $0 after the initial purchase, or you can buy gems with gold to get these items and still pay $0. The way I look at it is I can get 1200 gems a month for what I used to pay in subscription fees for a game that also sold in game stuff.

It’s hardly greedy, it’s simply Anet choosing to monetize something cosmetic instead of something that directly effects gameplay.

Anet is, at the end of the day, out to make money so it can continue to pay it’s employees while still making a profit. The fact that we’ve been getting content every month since Halloween is way above the norm btw.

If Anet was simply doing this out of greed, there are TONS of things they would be monetizing instead.

I don’t get it either. If I go to an amusement park where the gate fee allows me to ride all the rides as many times as I want I don’t expect the concessions and souvenirs to be free too. I don’t need a t-shirt to enjoy the rides but hey if I like it then I’ll fork out some money.

Many of the things you can pay RW money for cost less than if GW2 had a monthly subscription around the same price as other pay to play MMOs. It is part of the business model in place of a monthly fee to sell in game perks. If you have ever played some free game apps on iPhone or such it works the same way. You can still play but if you want to enhance the experience or get better “boosts” you buy coins or what not.

His express purpose is to maintain a positive atmosphere toward the game and balance out negative posts about GW2:

As for protecting Guild Wars 2, I’m against hyperbole generally and will call people on it, in real life as well as on forums, for the reason of it obscuring truth. It doesn’t matter to me if you like that, or you don’t.

What does matter to me is that the other side of the story gets told.

It’s basically the same MO he had over on a GW2 fan site.

He occasionally has some valid points, but for the most part his undue faith in the game and its inevitable development toward greatness constitutes a kind of flamebait (see the section on “unhelpful fanboy”) that so often ruins online forums.

So you think me giving the other side of the story is unhelpful, where a bunch of people saying the game is dying is helpful. I understand now. Thanks for explaining it to me.

There are those who might say that some people who attack the game at every opportunity, often by quoting some parts of truth while ignoring others are far worse for the forums, but that’s okay. We all have our opinions, even on this.

The OP made a post about Anet being greedy because they were selling emotes, like the ones he had in Guild Wars 1, apparently.

So you think me giving the other side of the story is unhelpful, where a bunch of people saying the game is dying is helpful. I understand now. Thanks for explaining it to me.

It depends on how you say it. Certainly your blithe dismissal of people’s concerns is unhelpful. And not all contexts demand “the other side of the story.” You certainly don’t feel a need to post negatively in threads that praise components of GW2. For you, the “other side” is only important when it constitutes criticism of the game.

There are those who might say that some people who attack the game at every opportunity, often by quoting some parts of truth while ignoring others are far worse for the forums, but that’s okay. We all have our opinions, even on this.

Those people are toxic too. That doesn’t justify your behavior.

In fact, what is being sold is a three pack of dances, which the OP now claims he wasn’t talking about at all.

Vayne, I think the issue is, why do you feel so compelled to give “the other side of the story” so often? I’ve gotten where I can look at the title of a thread and know whether or not your going to post within.

A few days ago, I was talking in Team Speak with my guild. One of my guild mates said something about garuanteed drops. I said “Well you know what they say….the only things in life that are garuanteed are death and taxes”. Then all of a sudden, another guildmate said “You’re wrong about that. They’ve added one. Now the only things garuanteed in life are death, taxes and Vayne white-knighting”. We all bursted out laughing because we all knew what he meant, even though none of us had mentioned your name previously. Congrats bud…..you’re famous!

because we like to spend time on the forums.
I’ve seen a lot of the dark side expressed by the same people and a lot of the white side expressed by the same people and I’m completely okay with that. These are the forums, forums are for discussion, you shouldn’t be limited on how many posts a month you can post and after how many months do you have to disappear off the forums.

This is now the second thread where you’re most interested in posting about what I post, than what the thread is actually about, My post in this thread is completely justified. If you don’t find other posts of mine justified, that matters little to me.

However, when you try to put into each thread why I post what I do or whether my posts are necessary or not, it becomes harassment.

If you have a problem with how I’m posting on these forums, feel free to report me. Do not, however, feel free to harrass me, because I believe that would be against forum rules.

Produce sufficient evidence of “harassment” or retract your claim and apologize. Two threads does not constitute sufficient evidence. Your slander will be rejected for what it is.

You post on these forums with a high degree of consistency. That I happen to read, and occasionally respond, to some of the same threads you post in is hardly surprising. I often pass over your posts and don’t think twice about it. You need far more evidence that I am “harassing” you. It’s a serious charge with criminal implications that has no business being made on a public forum.

Edited to add: And, no, in the other thread you weren’t my focus either. Maybe you missed the essay I typed answering the OP of the thread—a post that was so large I had to cut it down to reach the 5000 character limit. Your hyperbole is as embarrassing as it is unfair.

The better question is why people love to point out his white knight-ness.

It boggles me. It’s not good argumentation. Just because the speaker is biased, doesn’t make his points less valid. And posters constantly perpetuate this logical fallacy. If you are actually serious about serious discussion, this combined with all the hyperbole and outright lies will of course annoy you.

Vayne, you’re the biggest fanboy around here.
I read (and don’t reply) GW2 forum every now and then and every time I do you’re literally in every thread every time stating how great this game is.
If this game is so great, why do you keep coming back to this forum 24/7?

In fact, what is being sold is a three pack of dances, which the OP now claims he wasn’t talking about at all.

Also, since you seem to be good at researching my quotes, why don’t you point out the times I’ve said Anet has made a mistake or I don’t agree with them. Oh, sorry, that doesn’t fit your current theory does it?

This is precisely the same MO that people use in other threads, trying to make a point while ignoring a portion of the evidence.

That’s great. It absolutlely 100% doesn’t matter why I feel the need to stand up against hyperbole or people making false statements, or people omitting truth from other statements. It matters not one whit. This isn’t a thread for discussion.

If you wish to start a discussion about me, please start a new thread. I get that you don’t get it, and that’s fine. But there are people who do get it, and I’ve received appreciative messages from those people…so it works both ways.

Should I listen to you, or the people who clearly like what I’m doing. And again, why does it matter? Why is it so important to you? Why, in fact, am I so interesting to you that you’re discussing me in your spare time?

Maybe you should focus more on the actual issue.
