Odd "toy golems" sighted in three cities.
How strange. I have no idea. I thought, from your description, that they might have something to do with Lunar New Year, but they don’t seem thematically appropriate.
I could only find them in Rata Sum, though. Where in DR and LA are they?
(edited by Olvendred.3027)
What in the…I don’t remember seeing those when I last ran around Rata Sum. I wanna check ingame but can’t right now.
When did those pop up?
They kinda look like british uniforms, don’t they? Is there an related historical date / holiday coming up?
Thought you where talking about tonics with no screenshot to get a better idea, interesting with screenie.
Queen Elizabeth II is invading Tyria with her army of Queen’s Guard golems!
I didn’t find any near the Asura Gate to LA in Divinity’s Reach, but they are certainly standing around in Rata Sum! It says ‘Transformation’ as a description when one targets them. They are wind-up toys; seem like something more suited to Wintersday. In Rata Sum, one of them is standing inside another.
I didn’t find any in LA or WvW, either. Hopefully, they are a portent of something to come. =)
How odd!

Maybe it has to do with Super Adventure Box?
They certainly are interesting. The are old looking with scratches and worn paint. Just hope they give us a heads up if the Dragon event is ending.
I don’t know but if I can’t have a plushie of one soon, I’m gonna scream and scream until I’m sick!
Didn’t we read a book about the Golem Uprising in LS2…?
Interesting. Now I have to take a look. . . .
Edit: There were a ton of them at Minister’s Waypoint. They very much look like the old British Redcoats.

Okay, going out on a mad rush here. In the Tyrian calendar, this is the year 1328. The Golem Uprising described in a book we read in LS2 says it happened in 1284. 44 years ago.
Going back 44 years, Gary Gygax released his first gamebook. Okay, it was a set of rules for medieval miniature gaming but we all know who Gary Gygax is, right?
Curiouser and curiouser!

Some think this is going on . . . again.

I just looked around Ministers WP, and couldn’t see any. I turned my character limit up to Highest and everything.
I’m getting the strong impression they’re not supposed to be in the game yet.
Either they are moving around, or are in different places on different servers (IPs). I find none near Minister’s Waypoint.
Again, very odd.
Strange. You think it could be a player exploiting something that’s not supposed to be in game yet?
We are actually in the matrix and the golems have been harvesting our bodies for 44 years

Just logged back in and yes, there were still a ton of them next to the waypoint. No idea what’s going on.
I logged in to check. None at Ministers wp but the 3 in Rata Sum by the LA portal were there.
Maybe it depends on which shard you land in for the ones at the Ministers wp.

It’s possibly caused by a player, but I think it’s more likely to be some leaky code or something.
I wonder if they’ve accidentally spoiled the April Fools Day for us :S Given that the golems don’t have nameplates, and have “transformation” on them, it might be that all players or all NPCs will turn into them.
Hmmm. That would makes sense. Like Bobblehead from last year. . . .
There was a hot fix last night.
Surprised no one has come up with a convoluted way to tie it to Cantha being released shortly.

Lol..it’s in the screenshot above. =P

Two references! Cantha is confirmed!!!

Timing is everything.
On a side note, when did they start building beside the circus in Divinities Reach?
dev’s sneaky.. sneaky….!!!
btw, who’s winding them up, literally?
The Sylvari aren’t stupid. They know they aren’t very popular right now, but they still side with the Pact against the Elder Dragons. What better way to re-establish themselves quickly, than to go into disguise as something everyone loves: a toy? And this particular toy not only radiates fun, but it is also combat-ready so it can accompany the Pact into the Heart of Thorns.
Very soon, every Sylvari character will log in to find an Endless Toy Golem Tonic in their inventory. Simply an attempt to mollify the other races, while preparing for the challenges of the jungle.

Maybe someone at ANET is a history buff, lol. War of 1812 ended in February 1815, 200 years ago.
glad im not the only one mystified by and somewhat frightened of what may be our new golem overlords.
another weird tidbit that made me start warming my tinfoil hat is something that mattvisual and woodenpotatoes seemed to almost let slip in their podcast visualwood. its probably nothing but when MV & WP talking about future plans for videos. matt mentions something in the following week that they seemingly cant talk about yet. they have been given advance knowledge of content in the past. and each time they worn forbidden to talk about it until it was revealed.
mmm…. toy golems… clockwork golems… in scarlet coats….. oh noooo…. Scarlet’s back!
Might be some bug in which they continue to be in view of people… But they’re summoned by using skill 5 of the Fancy Winter Crystal Scepter
The mysteries dissapear and life stands explained.”
Well.. we are most likely getting an update on Tuesday (seeing as that is the last day to unlock Point of No Return for free) so this could be something hinting about that.
Wouldn’t be the first time we have had things like these before releases.

How strange. Well, here’s to hoping it’s an indirect hint at an upcoming event or something. Bug or not.
Apparently there is a trick to making them persist and follow like a mini. They don’t despawn even if the summoner logs out. I met a fellow in DR who said so, anyway, and he had summoned a conga line of them, but he would not divulge the trick due to the lack of despawn. For that I salute him, and I hope he reports it as a bug.
awww thats a bummer i thought something random was being hinted at. well thanks for clearing up that it was a bug.
i thought they were kinda x-massy.

Isn’t that the wrong toy solider though??? And for the other poster mentioning, boy would I love to know the “bug” that’s being used.
Aye, the toy soldier (at least according to the wiki) is the Charr one. Not a Golem, the wiki could be wrong of course.

Nope, I just used my winter crystal scepter, and the soldier was a golem.
Those are just the toys summoned with this:

Aha, I knew I had seen them somewhere before, couldn’t put my finger on it though.
Yeah I saw some in Heart of the Mists too this evening.
