I don’t know, if this is a bug here now, or an unintentioned game design flaw.
However and whatever it is now, its something that needs to be fixed ASAP, because it is breaking the design of the achievement system that every achievement should be earnable, especially when you hav deeply already progressed in them.

I can understand when the game gets changed, that other elements of the game may intentionally or unintentiinally change together also with other game changes.
But players should never suffer from unintentional chain reactions of different kinds of game system changes.

I didn’t want to believe, when people said a few weeks ago pre patch, that you would have to haste now gettign the old achievement done, if you want to have it, otherwise you will lose it forever (basically) and sadly I had yesterday to realize, that these people seem to have been correct about that and personally I’m absolutely no ok with this lock out of achievement points.

And if some game changes ever go so far, that people would get locked out of those achievement points, then at least every player, that already has progressed on that locked out achievement should get it put with the game chances into completed status and receive the missing achievement points.

You did this baically over the course of Season 1 already several times ANet, like when you made some changes to two of the WvW Achievements, you granted all people who progressed on the old version of those achievements basically some free AP, therefore that you changed the achievements that basically would have locked out many people from finishing them and getting miore AP, so it was some kind of compensation for that little change.

I have now 2x the 3rd year Miniature Achievements

1 tells me my point count being 46/49 because thats the amount of 3rd year miniatures, that I have collected up to a point and put into my storage, because the old version counted miniatures through puttign them into storage, not by just owning them and having them in inventory (whyever!!)

The other one tells me now 47/49 – the one 1:1 copied achievement that counts the minis now for unlocking them into our account bound wardrobe.
——

This needs to be fixed by either 1 of 2 ways.

1) Reimplement the right click option for Miniatures to put them into your Storage (just only 1x possible), so that the old version of the Miniature achievement would count any minis being put into storage again. – when doing just only this solution, I for once would like to see a refund of my last bought mini moss heart that costed around 44 gold for me (or give me gems worth okittenold :P)

2) solution two should just let any miniature that you have and get for the first time into your inventory also let the count of the old miniature version of the achievement progress by +1.
Example: I buy, like i did my Mini Moss Heart from the TP, I run to the BLT NPC to get it and directly after the moment I colelct it from there and that Miniature lands in my inventory, it should count then towards the pre patch miniature achievement and when naturally right clicking it and unlocking it for the wardrobe through deletign it from my inventory this way, this then lets progress naturally the post patch miniature achievement.

By doing this solution, I for myself just demand as result of this fix then, that my pre petch achievement gets retroactively fixed and corrected to show me together with the post patch one the same amount of collected and wardrobe unlocked miniatures by showing me for both achievements a 47/49

Personally I prefer solution 2, because this should be the most easiest way to fix this problem for everyone, without that Anet has to give out any potential refunds or so due to upsetting the community …

And a last proposal on the end to reduce this achievement confusion you cause here also with the patch.

Please RENAME the post patch miniature achievements! Making them completely look 1:1 the same kinda feels beign totally wrong.
Also both achievements shouldn’t give players the same title!! Each sbhould give the player a different title

Pre Patch Achievements = Year 1 Miniature Achievements = Title: Miniature Collector

Post Patch Achievements = Unlock XX Miniatures for the Wardrobe = Title: Sage of Miniatures

@ Moderators: if this should be placed better into the Game Bugs section (when this is really some kind of bug, Devs feel free to confirm this maybe, then any Moderator can feel free to move this thread into the Game Bug Section)

But unless theres a bug confirmation or so, i feell this topic is placed better here as a general discussion about the way how all of this got handled and implemented in overall so far – which I dislike. This part of the patch could have been clearly integreated into the patch better.
What do other people think about all this??

The problem is, when you have any of the old pre patch miniature achievements UNFINISHED, like for example I have had the 3rd year miniature achievement unfinshed at the point, when the last patch hit the game, the game still shows me the old version of that achievement, but the game doesn’t let me progress on that achievement anymore, because for progressng on the pre patch miniature achievement requires of you to manually put your miniature from inventory into the storage

The problem is – THIS EXACTLY DOESN’T WORK ANYMORE.
The game just lets you now only unlock miniatures directly only for the account wardrobe and doing so does’t let the 2 achievements which are basicalyl the same also progress on both. Just only the post patch achievement will progress for the accoutn wardrobe unlock, but not the pre patch version, which required for progression the puttign into the storage, which basically is a function now, that the game doesn’t seem to know anymore due to the game deleting also the miniature slorage slots, when you unlock them for your account wardrobe.

And this is the point, where I think there lies either a bug in, or its from begin on a game design flaw, that should get fixed, because it will lock out every single player from finishing the pre patch miniature achievements forever, if this doesn’t get fixed.

Example: Say you have collected only like 10 ministures from year 1 until know.
The current state means, you basicalyl will never be able to get the title Miniature Colelctor, because the game currently doesn’t allow you anymore to progress on and finish the 1st year pre patch achievement.
You woudl get it under the current state only, if you unlock all 54 miniatures for the wardrobe, what I think is the reason why Anet gave that achievement the same title as a “solution”.

The point is, this solution is no solution at all, because it solves not the problem about locking out people from the achievement points from the pre patch achievements.
This just solves only the lock out possibility of the 1st year miniature title-problem and nothing else.

The two achievements should be coded as a completely separate item, even if the names are the same. Yes, you might not have access to the old achievements anymore, but you should be able to complete the new ones just fine. Which are functionally the same, you just have to bind your pets instead of banking them.

I would prefer them to merge the old and new achievement into a single achievement that progresses using the new method.

This is really a symptom of the old achievement system not tracking WHICH minis you had, but instead your current “in the bank” count.

YES an NO

These achievements should be coded and handled as two completely different achievements, because this is also as what Anet has basically announced them!
Anet officially said, that we would see with the patch NEW ACHIEVEMENTS
But just copying the old ones 1:1 with the exact same achievement name and title reward as a cheap cover solution for removing the option to put miniatures into the storage, which was the old way of progression the pre patch achievements is just lame.

Would it really have been so much freaking effort to make out of both achievement lines 2 completely different named and handled/rewarded achievements, which truly feel also like different achievements, so that you could really say at the end of the patch, that Anet truly did add new achievements ?

No, that really wouldn’t have been a big effort at all, because it would have required just only a few minutes of text editing for giving the achievements and the title reward different names and it would also have not been any big effort to code the achievement unlock scripts of the game, so that unlocking a miniature for the wardrobe would let progress BOTH achievements for removign the old way of progressing on the pre patch achievement from the game completely (without even mentioning this in the patch notes !! not to mention, what makes it even worser …)

There are two identical achievements (they both award the same title).

One is “old” and cannot be progressed any further than it already is (because you have to put minis in the Materials (formerly Collectibles) section of the bank to progress it and it is now impossible to put minis in the Materials section of the bank).

The other is “new” and can be progressed with your 400g worth of minis by right clicking on them and adding them to your wardrobe.

And thats it what is not correct how it should be.
Correct would be if both achievements, the old ones as like also the new ones should be completeable still after the patch.
What would this please be for a “patch”, when patches would destroy game content like this? Patches are there to improve the game, not to destroy content and lock players out from it …

And the most easy correctino for this issue would be just to rename the new achievements, give them a proer new own title reward and let unlocking minipets either progress on both old as new achievements simultanously.
Either this, or the game should let progress you on the old achievements now for having each minipet the very first time in your inventory, because when there’s no option anymore to put minis into the storage, then simply said should count having minis in your inventory, because if you don’t have it in your inventory, you also can’t unlock them for your account bound wardrobe.
So having them in your inventory first is a natural prerequisite to get the new achievements and it requires no effort to give the game 2 seperate different codings to let us still progress on both achievements.

Everythign thats left over is just only the question:

Is this just a bug, that has been overseen by ANet, or is this working as intended, but could be labeled as a game design flaw by us players if we just absolutely dislike this “intention” kitten do I if this would be the case, because they siml exists a much better solution of how anet could have had handled all of this.

Only Anet can tell us this and I’d really like to hear, what they have to say about this.
What they had in mind about all this, or if this is out of their view really an unseen, but maybe already ackknowledged bug, that will get to see its fix somewhen later…

A friend and I tried to complete the ‘old’ achievement but weren’t able to buy everything until the day the patch came out, then we didn’t get it even though we had all the mini’s required.
We were less than happy about all the wasted effort and gold.
The old achievement should be updated to be possible to complete simply by having all the mini’s in your inventory (or bank).
I have never agreed with locking new players out of old content, and this is just another example where that is done.

I found out the hard way about the NEW system. I am as casual a player as you get and just paid 40 Gold for mini’s to add to my collection. But lo and behold I cannot see which ones go to series 1 or series 2, so I don’t know how much of each collection I really have. If Anet is lumping them all together, then why advertise season 1 when we cant readily see how much of those we have and which ones we are missing? I feel robbed I guess. No more reason to collect minis by season if seasons don’t count for anything. Anet should not advertise them for sale as such either. It almost feels like bait and switch. I guess minis are out for me. Whenever a bit of fun is taken out, the game starts losing its flavor.

Are players getting both? Or is the OP about wanting to get it twice? Lol, I’m confused.

If you completed them befor the feature patch you keep those achievements, but have the opportunity to gain another 120 AP by making the 3 collections account bound.

They are completly different, the old ones allowed you to get them from a friend for a minute, the new one requires you to own the miniatures yourself to make them account bound.

Are players getting both? Or is the OP about wanting to get it twice? Lol, I’m confused.

Its not hard to understand…

before of the patch, the Miniature Achievements required of you to have just a Minipet and put it once in your Storage.
Once you’ve done that, the Achievement progressed +1.
So as Malediktus says, people could share with each other the Minipets for the Achievements to get them done among friends.

This doesn’t work now anymore, because Anet removed the old way of progression towards the old miniature achievements, means anyoen who hasn’t completed those achievements from season 1 to 3 before of the patch, can’t max these achievements anymore.

The cheap solution which Anet did here to solve at least the problem, that people wil lstill be able to get the title Miniature Collector was by COPYING just all of the old achievements, just changign their way of progressing them through unlocking minis to the wardrobe now.

Thats whey I have problems with!.
I want to finish my pre-patch season 3 achievement, it stopped it progression at 46/49.
I unlocked a 47th minipet (moss heart) and just only the new achievement progressed to 47/49, but not also the old one too.

And this is the moment, where I and I’m sure alot of other people out there feel beign cheated/ to be lied to, because ANet announced, that they would add NEW Achievements and not give us some copied old coffee while destroying also the possibility to get the old achievements maxed out.

Its just ttoally discontinued now to the point, that it absolutely makes no sense anymore for Anet to continue even with any more new miniature seasons, due to the achievements being totally screwed up now, cause seasons 1 to 3 having basically double the amount of achievements.
How would it look like, if Anet would add now a 4th season which has then only the achievement for the wardrobe unlock? WOuld look totally silyl and discontinued.

Thats why I suggest, that Anet should fix this self created mess here ASAP, together with some other achievement bugs from the collection tab, as some of them can’t be started until today, just to mention, like the wine collection or the hero collection for using boss bags of all tiers!!

This simply can’t be intended, when there exist so obviously better solutions how all of that achievements could have been handled alot better and easier to understand, by addign like announced real new miniature achievements with their own title and keeping for players the old storage function, until they have maxed out the first sets of miniature achievements either, or instead usign the even easier way by changing the achievement progression script from progress on putting into storage to progress from having it in the inventory just simple.

But I guess this must have been too much work for ANet to consider this, or this must been a bug. Howeve,r nobody of us can say, whats intended or not, we are not ANet, so thats the reason why I want an official response here from one of those, that were responsible for that patch, because only such of those Devs can clearly give us the answer about this question – bu or not? And if not bug, what Anet has thought about it, what players should do, which still want to max the old version of the achievement and how they want to continue in the future with miniatures, as long the achievements are so messed up now…

If ANet really wouldn’t want to continue the old achievements, they could have also just merged the old ones together with the new ones, so that those achivements give 20 instead of 10 AP per rank. Would be totally fine with me then, because that way wouldn’t lose out anybody somethign too.
But I’ve progressed now in both, old as like new one to the point, that I’ve maxed out nearly all of them, so I want also not to lose the AP that I made from them, thats clear.
Then there would have been also no problem with the removal of the old progression mechanic, because then I could just get all of the AP and max the new-old achievements through the new mechanism with the wardrobe.

I think my point should be clearly undestandable by now.

If ANet would have really retired them, they would also be listed under the retired Achievements and every player would have gotten their AP from them substracted from their total amount of Ap, just like ANet handle the retried Hint Achievement, which removed 10 AP from al of us, because before ANet retired that achievement, it gave us 10 AP for getting all of the game hints

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Retired_Achievements
But when you look into the game, it shows 0 AP, means simple, Anet has removed 10AP from all of us.

@Yargesh:
I don’t care if you like my writing style or not, thats also not part of the topic here
I just tryed to explain the problem(s) as detailed as possible and what kinds of solutions exist for them with coming to an end of it, that the best solution would be by merging the old and new achievements as also their AP their give for each rank up.
This way the Miniature Achievements wouldn’t look anymore so discontinued.
It would solve the progression problem, as also the AP problem in just one go and Anet could just continue further with more seasonal miniatures for a 4th and more sets to come i nthe future that we al unlock from that point on than just only through the new wardrobe method.

@olvendred:
Yes thats a reason to let us continue the old achievements. Because Anet could have prevented all of these problem,s through making proper changes to the achievements through either merging them directly together, or through doing, what they officially announced and make those achievements really also new achievements and not just some cheap copy & paste stuff with a different way of how to progress on those achievements, than before

I’m guessing from others’ posts, that the issue seems to be some players wish to earn the APs more than once for the same collections. That does not seem fair to me, but I may be biased as I would not earn any APs either way! (Mini-pets aren’t really my thing. Don’t forget, that Anet added with the patch also new achievements with the various collections and that most people I guess easily got through them after their first login more than just 10 AP..
So was it for me too, after the first login after the patch I had suddenly more AP, than I had before – definetely more than 10 AP more than before.
So I really wouldn’t have recognized it directly, if those 10 AP from the hint achievement really would have been removed now, or not.

Unfair or not, but people, even you say for yourself now that the reason why it wouldn’t fit for Anet to remove the old achievements is now the quite nice 120 extra AP that Anet brought into the game that way through screwing up their Miniature Achievements instead of bringing us, what they clearly have annnounced – new achievements.
A copy pasted clone of an already existing achievement with just a different progression mechanic is no new achievement.

If ANet would remove now those old achievements, many people would lose out of a sudden whopping 120 AP, only because ANet screwed the achievements up and you call this fair? Seriously, thats some kind of double standards here guys.
Removing 10 AP from chest nearby players is unfair, while not considering that alot more people would lose far more progress and more likely chests by losing a fat 120 AP from removing completely the old miniature achievements…

The best solution would be simply to let everyone profitate from ANets mistake, because for me this is clearly a bug personally, but however, the Devs may see it naturally differently and thats what I’m still waiting for to hear he to get a clarification, how they think the design should have worked out, and what their plans are with those screwed up achievements in the near future.

The easiest way how everyone could profit from this change is by ANet merging the old and new achievements together and let the merged achievements give out now 20 instead of 10AP per rank.

This way no one will lose out of the achievements, no one will lose out of the AP they have already earned so far and that chest problem you mention here will also be that way absolutely no problem at all and everyone will still have the possibility to max all of the achievements through unlocking all minis now via wardrobe only, without that the achievements will look in the UI totally discontinued…. win/win for all.

This should be absolutely something in reach for Anet to fix together with the bugged collection achievements with the next upcoming biweekly patch or when the season 2 starts again …

I got all of my miniature achievements after the feature patch. I have a double pair of achievements now for sets I, II, and III. All I had to do was take all of my minis out of my collection tab in my bank, right click each one of them and “add to collection” and it worked.

While it bothered me at first that I could not progress the old one, I am over it. Just move it to historical achievments, where I already have partially completed achievements that will never be fully completed and where that is perfectly fine for me.

Yes it is a bother… I was only 3 minis away from the set 1 collection… and guess what I still am, I am still getting the same points as before when I get those last 3… actually I got more achievement points than those who will do it post patch… so I wont complain. Go with the changes.

Just needs to be moved to historical section.

For the love of God ..

Please tell me.

HOW DID YOU DO THAT???

How, when theres no way anymore to progress on the old achievements in the way how wee needed to at pre patch times through putting the miniatures into our storage???

totally confused now
I did exactly the same with my Moss Heart, right clicked it and it did count only for the wardrobe, but not for the old achievement grumpy face

Did this got a Stealth fix or what xD???

One moment
Did you have already owned the full 3 collections completely before the patch, or had you to buy some minis from TP after the patch also?
Because my Moss Heart was bought AFTER the patch, so it had no storage slot filled before of the patch, thus there was basically no slot for the game to remove from the storage through unlocking it for the wardrobe, which might have caused my problem and in this case, this here would be a clear proof, that we have a bug here!!

In order to show it, I’ll make a screenie now too …just for in case

PS: review it just to get sure on my Mini King Adelbern that I stopped on after the Moss Heart.. just shows to me only “Add to the Account Wardrobe”, not “Add to the Collection” That one is completely missing for me…

If you get still “add to collections” shown to you and you can use it to progress with the old achievements still after post patch, then we have a bug, a server regional one as it seems then.

The thing is Anet did no mistake. You are mistaken on this topic not Anet.
The old achievements were for putting them into the bank which is no longer possible. So they made new ones.

I’m quite disappointed too with the way ANet handled this issue.
There were better solutions IMHO, like moving those achievements to collections (so we could have the icons displayed and listed for a far better tracking) and keeping the old progression status (a player who maxed the achievement before the patch would keep it maxed even without a single miniature unlocked in the wardrobe, while half completed, or not even started, collection would need to rely on the new system to progress beyond what they get with the old one).
If they wanted AP hunters who used the old system to collect the minis again and keep them (increasing the gold value of a gem store item), which is the only reason for the current achievements to make sense, a single new achievent would have been more than enough (Grand Miniature Collector : Unlock every mini from sets I, II and III in your wardrobe, rewarding N AP). Those interested in the extra AP and/or the new title would have needed to complete every collection under the new system even if they had every individual achievement already completed with the old one (and without keeping the minis).

In the end, however, this is nothing but another example of how weird and unconsistent GW2 achievement system is (just like discontinuing the tips achievement when it could have been perfectly reworked to the new leveling system, allowing new players, or old ones which had it bugged, to get those 10 AP).
ANet has been rewarding APs for every single silly content they have released (no matter if it was temporary and hardly ever replicable on a permanent way), using them as a carrot for those reward chests and ignoring what achievements are in almost every single game out there, a feature aimed to completionist.
Honestly, the system is so flawed already that I can’t perceive this as anything but a minor and anecdotic nuisance.

I had all the minis before the patch hit, so I had all the achievements already, and all of the minis already. As soon as the patch went live, I logged on and right clicked them all to “add to wardrobe” and all the achieves dinged for me again. That’s all I did so I am not sure what might be wrong, maybe it is the new minis you are buying after the patch that aren’t registering?
