Just found Dulfy’s page on these new items:

http://dulfy.net/2015/08/18/gw2-account-bump-account-jump-start-in-gemstore/

So apparently you can only buy these things once per account.

Well, that’s somewhat of a relief knowing that people can’t be duped if they try to buy it the second time around (where purchasing items individually would be cheaper).

I’m just confused why the “crossed out” value is even there though- they could’ve at least made the figure lower and closer to the actual value rather than some obscure inflated one. Perhaps these new Account-bound Unidentified Dyes will solve our mystery, and turn out to be ludicrously expensive on the gem-store.

Inflated?

I think you misunderstood me.

The “original price” (the one that is crossed out beneath the current “discount” price) for these items stand at 1,970 gems for the Account Bump and 3,620 gems for the Account Jump Start.

These figures are more expensive than if you bought the contents individually.

The bump is worth 1,854 (rounded) gems and the jump start is worth 3,446 (rounded) gems. While there is a small difference between actual and what they listed, it’s not substantial enough to be an issue.

Ah yes, I just realised I made another calculation error on the larger of the two packs. Re-added and now realised that my figure should be 3,450 (not 3,030 or whatever it was).

I will edit the post accordingly and quickly check everything else to make sure there aren’t more

There is still a discrepancy- it is smaller than I had first calculated. Like I had said previously though, I would expect that the difference in price will be made up when if Account-bound Unidentified Dyes are purchasable on the gem-store.

EDIT: The “Under Construction” image for the Account-bound dyes from the gemstore led me to believe that they would be coming soon. Now I can’t find any hint of them in the gemstore.

Yeah. I thought I had seen them there or maybe it was just a screenshot. Whatever they do price them at, it may still be cheaper to convert the gems to gold instead and buy the colors you want off the TP.

Unless this sale on the packages is very short, I would personally wait until next week and see if they do any anniversary sales. You may get the same discount on each item, as you would have if you had purchased the packages, but not be forced to buy items that you wouldn’t necessarily want.

Got the small 800 gem version. Sadly, RNG made it not amount to much.
Notables:
One semi-rare dye worth less than a gold. All the others sold for 2 silver or went to guildies for free. (I did get the added bonus of feeling benevolent, though.)
Two ticket scraps.
Nifty XP/Killstreak booster.
Worthless booster conversion powder. -_- No longer needed since boosters are consolidated.

While the actual sale value was good (dye pack, keys, etc), the actual results were not worth 10$ worth of gems.

Many alts; handle it!

The graphic was likely pulled because they hadn’t decided on prices beyond 10 for 100 gems (SWAG).

But also I fear the the acquisition of current Unidentifed Dyes may go the way of Karma Boosters. And 10 gems is cheap in terms of gold compared to crafting one. And who wants to blow 5 Laurels on one? And they can simply change out the drop everywhere else.

That’s why I think it’s odd players seem to be dumping the current UniDyes rather than buying them up to sell later. It seems unlikely ANet will force everyone to retrieve their UniDyes for sale or convert any already in inventory if they are pulling a booster change.

I’m not seeing a connection between unidentified dyes and the karma boosters or your comment about people dumping their dyes. Explain please.

Okay follow along.

We all know that ANet removed karma boosters from the gem shop and as a side affect, boosters created with enchantment dust no longer can act as a karma booster, even if it was made before the booster patch.

Now out of nowhere we have package deals that come with a new type of UniDye, one that is account bound. And at least for a time yesterday there was an Account Bound UniDye on the gem shop but you couldn’t buy any, they didn’t have a price. But based on the “value” of the Account Bump/Jump Start kits they look to be 10 gems each.

As it currently is, tradeable UniDyes only have a few limited ways to get some. Bags of Loot from story content; BL Chests; Laurel Vendors; The Mystic Forge using four Rare quality Uni <color> Dyes.

You can always redo LW 2 content in hopes for a drop from one of the Bags of Loot. Or spend 5 laurels. Or RNG 1 to 2 from a chest with a key. Or create or buy four Rare quality Uni <color> Dyes which at it’s cheapest around two gold crafting, if you have Chef at 300, or a bit more buying them off the TP.

So basically tradeable UniDyes are either a time consuming, random or expensive to acquire. 10 Gems each is actually a bargain.

Now if it’s ANet intent to make future UniDyes from these methods to be these Account Bound ones, that basically sets the price cap of the tradeable kind. A price that the current UniDyes are well below.

Now like how they didn’t eliminate any Karma Boosters players already have, I believe they aren’t going to convert in place any UniDyes players may have in inventory and return any for sale on the TP along with a posting fee refund. The AB variety will simply be “new”.

So the way I’m thinking is that the current stock of tradeable UniDyes are underpriced relative to 10 gems. If the cheapest and easiest way to get these is via the gem shop now, why not drive the price of the tradeable ones up? As long as they are cheaper, they are a value. But instead I see what looks like players trying to sell the ones they already have which is driving the price down, not up.

And since gem exchange rates go up over the long term, buying and holding might seem like a good play. But since the Gem Shop change was made Tuesday, the price for UniDyes have dropped while supply has grown. Are some players panicking and liquidating on uncertainty of what might be coming? Are they thinking that any in inventory will be converted in place to the untradeable kind?

Right now 10 gems cost 1.9 gold yet current UniDyes are 75s, a steal if new tradeable UniDyes are going away.

That’s my convoluted analysis.

We are heroes. This is what we do!

It’s an interesting theory but it does require that people make the connection between the account bound unidentified dyes which are not separately in the gem store (and therefore have no price to compare them to) and the possible removal of the unidentified dyes from other sources such as Black Lion chests. It’s quite possible that many people haven’t noticed the removal of karma from the boosters yet. I wouldn’t have except that it was a forum post, as I was planning to use them after the expansion when I would hopefully be doing large numbers of events in close sequence in the new area and hadn’t looked at those boosters in quite some time.

So, while its an interesting theory, it seems to me to be dependent on making that connection which I’m not sure that people have done.

Waste of gems. Saved mine instead. I’d recommend others do the same.

After reading through all of this, as a new player, I’m going to side with Pandaman that the only valuable part to the pack is the bank upgrades. The pack no longer appears to be useful to me.

Got the 2000 gem pack.

Two bank tabs, very useful!
Two bag slots, will be awesome for my new rev!
10 BL keys, got a few minis, 2 claim tickets (1 full ticket, and 6 scraps, already had 4) and a bunch of the new boosters, awesome!
30 dyes, no great luck here, got about 10g worth of dyes.
Transmutation charges… well those are pretty worthless to me

Overall it was worth it. Also picked up a copper-fed-salvage with my leftover gems, which was the second best buy i’ve made (watchwork mining pick is the best)

I’d agree that it’s a steal if you were already planning on buying bank and bag expanders anyway (providing they don’t offer a discounted version of them singularly if there’s an anniversary sale). Much like how the Ultimate pre-order version for HoT is a steal if you were eventually going to purchase gems with real money anyway.

Do you think your opinion of the pack would be different if you had received the average amount of ticket scraps rather than an above average number?

Gratz by the way.

It still doesn’t make any sense to me as to why they account bound those dyes. Sure the value of unidentified dyes would have dropped but unidentified dyes are priced ridiculously at the moment (around 80s) which in my opinion is overpriced. What if you get duplicates? You’ll have to flush them. At the very least, it should have been something like “pick 7 common, 2 uncommon and 1 rare” or something like that.

My guess is because they want to give new players (at whom these bundles are targeted) some extra color choices for their armor, so making the un-IDed dyes account bound ensures that the best decision isn’t simply to throw them onto the Trading Post but rather to open them and maybe add them to your account.

I main Ele and Necro, though I have an alt of each profession at level 80.
