Option for concealing the boots.
+1, I like this idea.
Stinky Feet!
Would do good for all races though. I can’t see a use for my Humans but someone will
Charr in particular will probably like this
I’m usually typing on my phone
Hide Pants option also, please!
Yes on the feet… nope on the pants and chest lol.
I just take them off and have a barefoot slay-a-thon for one of my guardians.
Boots, that is. She tends to keep her pants on unless my daughter wants her to run around in her undies.
Would you like some hard cheeze with your sad whine?
Hopefully someone from Anet will see this and release us from the tyranny of shoes…
Joking about the tyranny, but I found a look for a new character I plan on trying out after the 15 rolls out and I just couldn’t find decent boots to got with the concept, but the calf area of the racial pants I liked get completely covered by lots of the boot.
Think of the poor Asura who must squish their misshapen feet into human children’s shoes or have to cut the sides to allow…
Again :P
Concealed Boots 2014
Concealed Boots 2014.
Not just for Asura, but also the Charr, who are forced to struggle fitting boots through their large toes and claws.
I don’t particularly want to be in my underwear, but at this point, it’s becoming the closest thing to looking how I want every 5-10 levels with my alts that I can afford. I guess this is a 1/3 step in that direction.
I would support no chest option over no boots option. My Charr has fantastic fur, it’s a shame I can’t show it off without un-equipping my armor.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
+1 for you. I would also like cosmetic option for hairy feet aka hobit feet. With some mud on them option so I can run around in stealth leaving muddy feet trail behind me. Thanks.

You do realise that feet only tend to smell because there’s nowhere for the sweat to go when you’re wearing shoes? It can’t evaporate so it settles back onto the skin again. Try wearing leather gloves all day in the heat and you’ll find pretty much the same thing happening with your hands.
Anyway, I would like to see such a toggle option as well as at least it offers more visual customisation with limited armour pieces (and now, non-existent town clothes) . No self-respecting Asura or Charr wears shoes. Nor it seems, does Queen Jenna and most of the Grove plantlife.
Edit: Just realised that my post came across as aggressive when it wasn’t meant to be. In short, yes to more toggle options.

I think that all armors should be hideable. If you want to solve the issue of people running around naked (this really only happens with Humans and Norn…), change the underwear to be something people wouldn’t want to show off.
I’m usually really sweet… but this an internet forum and you know how it has to be.

Hideable boots please.
Charr with light armor is a particularly bad offender. Everything looks either monstrously huge and padded, or blocky and ugly.
For the toast!
May as well do everything. IMO.
Not sure about the whole running around in the undercloths, but I don’t see boot conceal harming the game in the least.
Everything toggle-off able would be awesome indeed. Even better would be the ability to choose what the undergarments look like and to dye them different colors. Not all my girls like the color yellow or would wear a lace ridden panty and bra… some would wear boy-shorts and tank tops, in rose blue or white, or something other than yellow.
This would relate to my desire to have Ascended Chef craft “invisible dye” so you could make some parts of your armor invisible, for yet more customization.
Chest too plz.

Being able to hide armor in battle is silly, yes. But its important in roleplay. I still think it should be everyone’s choice, its an MMO, not a nanny.
People already do it anyway they just accept the armor loss.

I actually agree; I see no reason why people shouldn’t be able to hide all their armor if they so choose.
In fact, I honestly see no reason why the underclothes shouldn’t be hide-able as well, nor do I see any reason why there shouldn’t be anatomically correct nude character models underneath the armor, because the un-covered human form isn’t inherently sexual or shameful, we’re just socialized to see it that way. However, I realize that most people, with the exception of naturists/nudists, probably wouldn’t agree with that sentiment, and such a move on ANet’s part would not go over well at all and be mis-interpreted all over the place (OMG, GW2 is like totally a porn game!), so I’m not actually suggesting that. Just thought I’d bring it up as a response to some people I see complaining about players running around in underclothes in the game (my point is I don’t see this as a problem).
Back on topic though: As far as RP is concerned, doesn’t it make sense to accept the armor loss in combat anyway? If you’re roleplaying a character who, I dunno, got attacked in his/her sleep before having a chance to get dressed, it makes perfect sense to be more vulnerable, even if still able to fight.

The underclothes will never be toggleable due to the game’s Teen rating.
The underclothes will never be toggleable due to the game’s Teen rating.
I’m not saying they should be, just that I see no moral/ethical reason they shouldn’t be, but then I understand that view is not shared by all and many people do view nudity as inherently sexual, because that’s how it’s socially constructed to be viewed.
I know that will never happen, and I’m not advocating for it anyway, I was just using it as an example to illustrate a point.
In America yes, but nude beaches in foreign countries exist because they do not view nudity as sexual
Restore that which was lost. And all shall be as one.”
Hide boots definitley fits Norn/Charr the most. I can also seeing the chest being removable especially if you wanted a Berserker look for males
I’ve struggled with finding good boots for my Charr and Asuran characters since the beginning of the game, I would definetely like to have a hide boots option. Asura tend to have their toes sticking through cut-outs, just like Charr have with their claws. People that do want to wear boots can keep on doing so and those that prefer to be a bit more primal on those races can do so, while still remaining at maximum combat efficiency.
Just give us a full nakid option.

Hide boots? Sounds good to me.
Also throwing in my two cents… I so very wish I could hide weapons. (out of combat, that is)
Many weapons clip horribly when stowed. Also, they tend to be ridiculously huge.

Yeah, I hear some countries in Europe even have co-ed changing rooms, and no one freaks out or thinks it’s a big deal. The U.S. (where I’m from) can seem a bit prudish sometimes…
Also if memory serves, we do have a few nude beaches in the US, but most people here view them as “sexy” places that you go to to gawk at each other, because of, again, how we’ve socially constructed the idea of nudity being shameful and/or sexual.
Regardless, sorry for off-topic-ness. Again, I support the option to hide boots, especially for Asura.
Boots are one thing, but everyone running around in undergarments, no thank you.
It seems almost every time I’m waiting with a group of players for some event there is always some nimrod in his/her underwear running around in circles and jumping up and down. I suppose they are hoping for something like this to occur:
/map
Player C: OMG do you guys see that guy running around in his underwear? LOL that’s hilarious.
Player R: HAHA yes I saw it. That’s freaking insanely funny. I took a bunch of screen caps and I’m gonna put them on my Facebook. LOL
Player A: Man that is a riot. Look at that guy. HAHAHAH
Player P: I took a video. I’m going to put it on Youtube as soon as the event is over. This is classic.
No thanks. If you want to play a game where people run around naked play Second Life.
(edited by JustTrogdor.7892)
The funny thing is, in Rift, where you can literally have your character run around naked, I’ve rarely seen anyone do so. I expect the “novelty” of it wears off very quickly.
Now that we’ve seen the new wardrobe system in action, with options seemingly even more limited and expensive before (especially town clothes – goodbye mix and match), I think it’s time to revisit the toggle visibility option again for boots and possibly the other remaining parts as well.
As I’ve pointed out in my previous comment, in other games, just because there is an option to hide everything it doesn’t mean that you will see a load of naked people running around. This is certainly not the case in two other MMOs I occasionally play – LOTRO and Rift. Sure, you get the odd 12-year-old idiot who seems to think it’s “mature”, but most people seem to prefer playing chars that are capable of keeping their clothes on.
To me, there seems to be little point in having Sylvari bioluminescence, Norn body tattoos or fancy Charr fur if you can’t actually see any of it! It’s a bit like spending an hour customising your character’s face only to hide it behind a helmet the moment you enter the game.
Seeing as this game is supposed to be about appearances, I would like to see the devs at least pay some attention to threads like these once the dust has settled down on Megaserver and nerf issues. No, I’m not saying we must have the option to toggle visibility on everything(though I’d like to think that the GW2 community is far more mature than the Rift community), but it would be nice to have the options available, if only so that my human elementalist can look the same as the trainers in DR and Queensdale, or my Asura doesn’t have to squash his odd-shaped feet into something that was clearly designed for humans! At least give us the option to toggle footwear visibility.
I favor being able to toggle any piece of armor off. It seems like the only objection is the fear that somehow immersion will be broken seeing someone run around pantsless… But how is that different from the enormous amount of “armor” that is basically underwear anyway? Honestly I don’t imagine the novelty of running around completely naked would be appealing enough for many people to do it for very long. It reminds me of the early days of GW1 when you weren’t able to toggle anything off, including the helmet, and many people raised objections because they felt it made no sense for characters not not wear headgear.
I feel there are legitimate reasons to want to hide a shirt or boots, just as there are good reasons to hide the gloves, shoulders and helmet that are already allowed. Of course you could just not wear them, and I don’t think I would mind it if all you took was an armor hit, because that would actually be pretty realistic. But you also take a huge hit on your stats if you, for instance, decided to take off your chest piece. It’s not a particularly realistic option if you plan on actually playing the game.
I ran into this just a couple weeks ago. For a while I’ve wanted to create a male Norn character. I had this idea that I had played around with in the character creation of a large Norn with very dark skin and white full body tattoos. It looks pretty striking and I thought it would be great for roleplaying. And so when I finally ponied up the money to buy yet another character slot (embarrassingly my ninth), I decided to create that character in the only profession I haven’t really played; Elementalist.
The problem I quickly encountered was that Light armor for male characters is shockingly modest. Like nun on Sunday modest. Which meant the glorious tattoos on my Norn character would always completely be hidden (even down to long sleeves on most of them). While on one hand the female versions of light armor run the gamut of exposed flesh, the male versions all appear as if the characters are bundling up against the cold. After some searching, I was surprised to find that the male armor that is the most revealing is actually Heavy, as counter-intuitive as that might seem. Unfortunately I already have a warrior and two Guardians and another would have been a waste (one of my Guardians is sad and neglected because… why do I need two, honestly?).
So I abandoned my poor awesome Norn and instead made an elementalist human female who is currently running around half naked (and yet completely armored) through Tyria, scandalously exposing flesh with not a care except for a single tear for the Norn who never was.
That would be pretty cool – the zodiac skin for instance would look great if it affected the feet, the boots on it cover too much of the leg, losing the cool effect for a large chunk.
Chest piece as well.
Hide boots option please! It’s time!
Someone mentioned weapon hiding too. Not a bad idea — TSW has that option and it’s used a lot.
As for chest/legging hiding, sure, but at least boots since they make the most sense.
Well, they could make the chest hiding an option that only has a local effect.
Or, just make a thief and use Cloak & Dagger a lot
Come on! Ninja the hiding boots option into a patch like you did the gloves! You know you want to!

That’s the price you pay when you wear medium/heavy (and some light) armor as a sylvari. Especially if it’s not cultural armor.
Generally, it looks like there’s a lot of support for this suggestion so far in this thread (a rarity for the GW2 forums!). Now if only it would stay visible long enough for Anet to take notice.

There was a dev post in the pvp forum (I think). It has been put forward by some devs, but atm the answer is there are no plans to hide boots. The gloves became hideable I think I read as it was easier to hide a bug which was causing problems.
I am happy to stand corrected if I misread that info though

When compared to the other suggestion threads it is
Most of the general forum is either complaints or feedback threads. This is growing into a pretty large suggestion thread!
EDIT: Also, why are all the good Dev responses hidden away in the PvP section?
Stuff that pertains mostly to PvE players now (Tribal Armor/Concealing Boots) is never responded to here. If you wanted to, you could run around naked in SPvP, correct? Equal rights for the PvE crowd! Except I don’t necessarily want to be naked, but still!
EDIT EDIT: Also, if they want to see glitchy clippy shoes that are causing problems, I can give them a list with pictures if it will help them change their mind to allow toggle-boots.

LOL – I worded that badly. I meant that within this thread there were far more positive than negative responses, which is a rarity in suggestion threads where the discussion generally becomes polarised, not that there was a massive amount of support for this idea within the GW2 community!
I’m supporting this quite long, particularly for the Charr-Culture.
Charr just wanna …
Let Charr hide Boots please

Yeah, Charr should look more like armored bear.

It’s a shame the devs didn’t bother responding to similar threads in the PvE parts of the forum, considering there’s probably a few of us that don’t PvP (myself included, though I sometimes do EOTM which is more of a zergfest than PvP) and have no reason to even look at the PvP subforum.
As a charr I fully support this as boots on charr look stupid.

This! I really dont get it: It’s much easier to create a couple of simple beast footwear than stretch boots to the very limit.

I am in full support of being able to conceal boot armor; all armor. It is my opinion that players in an MMORPG should be able to have full control over their personal aesthetic style. Anything less is a restriction on something that doesn’t have an effect on any of the game’s mechanics. Running around in your underwear should be a viable option for players that focus on PvE. (PvP fans shouldn’t get all of the fun).
