Option to toggle boosters on and off
Pretty much what the title says, would be really nice if when your in town the timer on boosters would stop counting down, or perhaps make it so there is an option that allows us to suspend the timer and not get the bonus from the booster and then allows us to voluntarily activate it and get the benefit at a later time.
even more so for heart of the mists, as pvp downtime wastes so much of boosters for pvp
I was going to say that the game should do this automatically, but I suppose I could see where someone might want their celebration booster to be active while they’re crafting or looting their home instance – so PVP lobby is probably the only place where it could truly automatically suspend the timers. I was also going to suggest a preference to auto suspend/re-enable, but people might want their item boosters to stay running inside or outside of town (depending if crafting or farming) – so keeping it simple/manual might be best, after all. Sometimes simple is best, ‘K.I.S.S.’ – as they say.
Don’t some of the boosters improve PvP reward track gain? I’m sure there was something like that I saw on one of them. (Not that I used it, so I could be misremembering, and it only applies to WvW.)

The exp and celebration/birthday boosters applies to both.
I think toggle-able boosters would be too open to abuse. Having a karma booster up, but keeping it disabled until four seconds prior to an award of karma, feels exploitive. Turning any booster off when not applicable just feels wrong to me, though it would be nice to not waste them.

They could make it so the toggle only works in cities/guild hall/pvp hub/fractal hub/raid hub. That way you could turn them on before entering the main zones (wvw, raid, fractal, pvp match, non-city open world, etc) that would apply their affects and then turn them off when you exit those zones.

Or maybe have a cooldown where if you turn them on or off you can’t turn it off/on for X minutes. Even if they turn the booster on right beforehand to get the benefit they can’t turn it off until the timer runs out.
ANet may give it to you.

some do yes, but there’s times when queueing between matches can be 5-10 minutes of wasted booster that then runs out before the second match is over
I would love it if they gave us the ability to select on/off for boosters, or even set gamemode boosters,
So that WvW boosters are only active when in WvW and not when your stuck in the Queue for 90 mins
Not sure how the booster would work for PvP, maybe they start when you enter a match and stop after rewards are given.
I would totally buy boosters from the gem store if I could only use them in WvW, but im not buying a 2 hour booster that in the event I start it then get DC/kicked ( like for tonight’s update ) then they get an hour of them wasted,
End of the day we shouldn’t have to pay gems for boosters that go to waste because of queues, maybe make WvW only boosters for badges of honor, give an NPC badges you get x booster for x mins?
Just turn it off in cities and hotm.
Suppose it could be a problem for Wintersday but not really.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.
I’d have a problem with it for wintersday wintersday is the only time karma boosters are valid because theres no diminishing returns on orphans.
Great idea! I hate wasting boosters during crafting, waiting for queues to pop, etc.
Toggleable, yes please. I always feel like I am wasting the boost if I do not do an activity that uses it the entire time it is active.
100% support, thats one of the QoL issues that should have been fixed already years ago !!!
PVP boosters need to only count down DURING PVP matches. Literally over half of the duration of these boosters can be lost waiting for PVP matches to pop, for people to click accept, map selection, map loading, etc. Unlike in any other mode, we have no ability to do anything to conserve the duration, ie we can’t wait to pop until match does because a) the duration is ALWAYS longer than a single match and b) you aren’t allowed to start them inside a PVP arena.

Which boosters are PvP only?
And you’re mistaken to think that it’s only in PvP that people spend time waiting. I’ve “lost” plenty of food & utility duration to waiting in PvE & WvW for people to finish arriving, discussing strategy, changing gear, changing skills. Plus, in WvW, most of one’s time is spent outside of combat, not inside.
The system isn’t perfect & it would be nice to have some control of how much is wasted. Still, this isn’t a PvP-specific issue.
