PLEASE Give us an IN-GAME Voice Chat Server
I don’t think this would be good because there are a lot of good 3rd party software that is already dedicated to this kind of stuff, and some are even freeware. Besides, it would put even more load into Arenanet servers and that’s something that we don’t really want, since it would end up affecting our gameplay.
Furthermore I like how we’re not pressured to use voice chat in game, like in other games, since I’m personally not always into talking with strange kids on the internet.
Flipping your camps since 2014 :3

Agree, the load on the servers would affect game play in a very negative way. Anet would not spend money to improve servers to add the option anyway.

Everyquest 2 does it and it works well. This would make coordinating between players of both pve AND pvp so much easier. As is, you need to have multiple programs downloaded since not everyone uses the same voice chat services.
I have yet to find anyone not being able to use TS.
The main problem with this suggestion is that Anet should spend lots of time and money and developers/coders/testers for this addition. It means there will be less content added to the game itself, less bugs fixed and less weapons with unicorns pooping flowers for us to buy with gems.
And these voice chat programs actually exist already, players are using them and they work. So, no, there is no need for this.
Two reasons why this won’t happen:
1) Liability. If you don’t know or understand the term, or how I’m applying it, then go Google it.
2) Money. They aren’t going to spend money (ie, time and effort) on something that people can acquire for free elsewhere that does EXACTLY what you are asking.
Similar to “One ring to rule them all” there should be one voice chat service to use for all. If you want to use an outside program, fine, that’s you. This is a suggestion for the developers, not for you. I personally think it asinine that I need Teamspeak, Vent and Mumble downloaded onto my computer since everyone seems to be using something different. Again, Everquest 2 does this without issue, the first few months of implementation there were of course a few issues as they got things figured out. Are there issues with the in-game voice chat servers now? No, there aren’t really any issues unless it is a maintenance day.
You are not required to use any of these programs to play GW2. And btw, they work with every other game too, so if you use TS while playing game A and you use it when playing game B and then you play GW2 its already there in your computer, ready to be used.
lol – this was begged for for months in ESO before the PS launch of the game.
Voice came in, proximity chat came in.
Within 60 seconds the forums melted from complaints ranging from “I can hear peoples music in the background and they won’t turn it off” through to “OMG they are playing pron”. To this day, they are still complaining afaik.
Worst. Thing. Ever.
Oh…and as far as I know, developers on forums (those rare times they do come over) tend to ignore the “demanding” thread title and posts…unless Anet is different?
wow, so asking for something is now considered demanding? /facepalm, these kids…smh. Not once did I say “give it to me”. It’s a suggestion. Here’s my statement though. This is addressed to THEM, the developers, not to YOU, the player. Again, if they were to go that route and you didn’t like it you have all the right to use a third party program. I really wish ignorance were painful…..

Interesting you default to the term “Kid”. Anyhows, look at your title: Give us an IN-GAME Voice Chat Server
Pretty sure you did say “Give it” – that is a demand built statement, not a question or suggestive sentence.

There. Are your feelings restored?
Our TS server regularly gets hit by DDoS attacks by rival servers. It’s costing us over $8,000 a year to maintain this.

and many many many more. This is just a redundant post that has been talked about many time and dismissed. Bottom line is not going to happen ever.
Google is your friend
Neverwinter did it so badly that everyone still used TS.
In game systems are just never as good.

150 agony resistance required for this….

Ditto for WoW. Even Blizzard’s resources weren’t up to making a robust voice chat of quality comparable to third party dedicated programs.

I think it would be a big mistake. ANet would become responsible for the quality and uptime of VoIP, not something in their core skill set. ANet is good at creating a fun game that appeals to casual and hardcore players (although we tend to disagree about how fun or how appealing), but they don’t do so well when they branch out. Look at how long it took them to get a decent TP UI, and the growth pains in tournament PvP, or even just setting our expectations about the expac.
In addition, if they provided VoIP, they’d also be responsible (to an extent) for what takes place in voice chat, such as verbal abuse, stalking, scamming, etc.
It’s much easier to let third parties provide VoIP, especially since there really aren’t all that many services or clients to download.
So, while this might be a great idea for EQ2, I don’t think it’s a good idea for GW2.

Agreed.
Not only is it bad for matching the voice to the character (does your norn sound the same as your human and asura?), but it also brings in RL background noises. In fact, while I was typing that, a garbage truck was emptying a trash bin downstairs. Lots of loud banging noises that would have been picked up if you were listening to me talk. You might also hear the fan I have going, or my roommate coming in to ask me a question. All acceptable enough in a team game, but atmosphere killers for RP.
delicate, brick-like subtlety.
Absolutely not. Would add a huge amount of bloat to the DAT file, would need extra staff to create it, different staff to maintain it all to re-invent what is done very well by several companies that focus of this type of thing. A complete and utter waste of time and money.
Would someone define “proximity voice chat?” I’ve been googling and I find a lot of entries debating its usefulness without saying what it actually does.
You refer to EQ. Do you seem to forget that EQ is a PtP game? Sony and Ultima can afford to do things like this. EQ can afford to expand their servers (most of the time) so they can implement things like VoIP. It is kind of a sacrifice to not have the VoIP services, I mean come on, you don’t have to pay anything to play the game.
Download TS, Mumble, or any other service. Why should our game quality suffer because you don’t want to Download a service?? (Which is free by the way)
Lol… We don’t even have a test server, and often we get bugs game wide where you could litterly test it by logging in and attacking something.
If they don’t even have that they won’t make voice capabilities for years if they even consider it.
Besides things like discord are to easy to fire up for coordinated group content.
“Maybe I was the illusion all along!”
