Patch Day: Hopes, Prayers, and Scares
Necro fix and im happy.
To be honest I think Flame and Frost is more of foundation for future patches. They’re only doing minor changes, and then we’ll see the bigger changes sometime in march I think. Ultimately though I like the FOTM changes, and laurels.
Hoping that that they won’t nerf anything(nerfs=anti-fun)
Hoping that they’ll buff Rangers/Engis/Necros(buffs=pro-fun)
This is the smallest patch of a set of 3.
That being said, it does have a few things that will substantially change how people play the game. Makes me look forward to the end of March.

You said we mostly know what is going to be in the patch. I have not been able to find any info on what the patch is going to contain and when it is going live.
Could you point me in the right direction….I probably am looking right past it somewhere.

As far as what I would like to see….just a nerf of the obvious ez mode faceroll classes. Specifically, thieves, mesmers and d/d eles. Getting really sick of seeing so many in spvp all the time.

I really am clueless what they will change today, I know guesting will come and this will change our world completely, I was at least smart enough to move to aurora glade from the ruins of surmia months ago with my whole guild, so I wont be stuck on a dead server.
I somehow hope to be able to guest into servers which are fuller on late nights to be able to do group events, but somehow I really dont see any other reason to use the guesting system at all, and even if I could use it, the heck how are we even able to find the server which is not desolated on some unpopulated maps? So I kinda dont care all to much about the update…
I dont think they will change anything besides that, maybe the aoe nerv which will only kitten me off, I still am kind of mad they restricted the aoe of most boon skills to 5 people now they will even nerv the strenght I guess

Considering you’re talking PvE:
If you use a condition build, every class using a condition build has the same issues as necro with bleed cap and overwritten conditions.
If you use a power build, it’s not actually that bad.
Considering you’re talking PvP:
Necros are fine in PvP.

Aoe nerf means ranger nerf. I would hold your breath for that one.

This is the part that scares me. Will my necro be survivable after this patch nerfs AoE? That remains to be seen…
I am looking forward the new story prelude and the dailies/monthlies.
I’m interested to see the Laurels and I hope they didn’t jack up the prices on the stuff we can buy with them to the point that I have to do dailies for a month before being able to purchase anything.
I don’t play a D/D Ele but I’m afraid in their attempts to nerf their survivability my Supporty Staff Ele will suffer indirectly.

I just hope for some buff to ranged combat… all ranged classes/builds need improvements… melee characters are so dominant that it makes it not very fun to be ranged… I think rangers, engineers, thieves, even warriors a bit need some improvement to ranged combat, that’s what I would love but I know that won’t happen…
I’m actually looking forward to an aoe nerf… I feel like it takes skill away from playing and makes the game essentially aoe spam fest…
And I’m scared that they will do something to drive cof p1 farming into the ground… seems like something anet would do…

Today i got greedy and have put over 200 great swords into the mystic forge….
Somehow the mystic forge now hates me…..
From 200g to 6g in a matter of minutes…..
Ah well….

Isn’t that a bit narrow-minded?
They should make sure all classes have the same number of viable builds, rather than just doing one at a time – otherwise everything is constantly way out of balance.
The fractal DC fix is the only thing I want. Soo many updates game have before fractals launched and non fixed it, it’s sooo…

As a pessimist, I anticipate nerfs to everything I care about and more reasons to stop me from playing rather than actual balancing the professions, fixing the bugs and design failures, and anything to make me optimistic about the direction of the game.

It’s not ANet’s fault you can’t let go of Altruistic Healing (well maybe a bit but it’s mostly you). The Zeal line could use a helping hand though.
I hate how everyone calls for buffs to strong classes because a few builds aren’t perfect and they want more than 3-4 viable builds (warrior, thief, mesmer (? maybe)) but everybody hates the elementalist because it has one slightly OP build at the moment and ONLY one build.
So, I hope that they balance the game and make it so, amongst other things, the elementalist has more than 1 viable build… oh and also they scrap the AoE nerf that makes this game Warrior Wars 2.
I think the most important thing is world drops. It’s rubbish at the moment.
Balance the classes (stop nerfing and actually balance them out via fixing bugs, buffing underpowered, and improving AI for pets/minions). Psychologically speaking people dislike seeing their numbers drop. Better off buffing than nerfing unless something is really wrong/buggy.
Fix loot drop or/and protect those who seem to have the perma-DR attached. Let DR reset after one hour or have a way to make sure it is removed once a player moves zones. Should work but doesn’t for some.
EDIT: forgot to mention – Risk versus Reward is horrible at the moment. Champs, vets, bosses do not drop decent loot, nor does going into zones above character level provide any better quality drops.

I would be scared if they actually fixed a necromancer issue. Like a real necromancer issue such as minions or trait structure, not these silly alterations to skills like spectral grip (seriously everyone complains about minions for 2 months and then they buff spectral grip, lolwut). I’d be pretty startled by the sudden love and care being directed at the class.

I agree in principle with you. Calling for Guardian buffs right now is idiotic considering the state of other professions. Though I have to say that thief is in the same boat as Elementalist. They’ve got one valid build for PvP/WvW and several options in PvE(but they are all pretty cruddy in comparison to any other profession). I think my Mesmer and Guardian are in great places right now in PvE.
Ele could use some buffs all around. Necro, Ranger, and Engineer need almost complete overhauls.

Fears: Weird nerfs for classes that I prefer to see expanded or buffed in weaker fields rather than just a knee-jerk nerfing of OP builds (Engi’s and Ele’s are my two who have both suffered this one hardcore)
And the fear that a lot of my weaker pve characters will not be getting any better.
Hopes: Characters weaker in pve (mesmer, ele, etc) get some performance boost to make up for the issues caused by having to build up that uber dps against something that dies half way through it and leaves it’s 2 or 3 friends to kill you in the mean time.
Fractal DC fix (gawd this would have been nice to see earlier, and i hope it applies to other things like personal stories too…. almost smashed my keyboard one night when i DC’d right before choosing my path at the end of the level 55 story two different times)
Better open world loot for people who are not constantly running around in groups of 5
Prices on the AH comming down a bit because of better open world loot (some of this is insane if you aren’t attached at the hips to a clique of dungeon spammers)
New stuff for this new story bit they are starting
Not in the patch, but praying for near future: Frostgorge needs to be 80 only because Orr needs to sink back under the water (tired of looking at water logged dead things all the time)
Or other, newer, NOT UNDEAD level 80 only zones… or additions to southsun cove to draw people into there for things like event spamming, I’m guessing this is the reason that zone is pretty much dead outside of people hitting that ori vein or the few bots still out farming the young karkas on the beach…
NEWER BETTER SHOULDER ARMOR SKINS… pet peeve of mine, includes alterations to make some not stick up so far off characters (norns have this one in a hideous way) and the addition of symmetrical options to many of the skins already out there (vigil heavy shoulders for me personally, number of medium ones would make me very happy if they weren’t single-shoulder as well)
Lets add some newer, slimmer or even sexy medium armor to complement the trench coat mafia thing going on there
Ele’s air attribute needs to be less about running away and more about facerolling single targets (wth happened to my invoke/chain lightning, or dual attuned lightning hammer builds from gw1… why did air become the twisted panties running away element?)
And finish the wishlist with a little disambiguation in game to trait choices, including internal cooldown timers, effects on utility skills (like traits that trigger skills available elsewhere automatically) and simple sigil interactions with something like “stacking” or “non-stacking” etc written in the in game discription rather than having to fish it out of the wiki would be nice.

My 2 biggest wishes are a WvW culling fix, and fixes for guardian bugs. Specifically, fixing Pure of Voice and Battle Presence so they actually work. Not looking for buffs, just fix those 30pt traits that plain don’t work.
