How’d that work out for us so far?
Now let’s try some ideas that will really work.
Their entire direction since Nov 15th has been alt unfriendly.
Oh dear me, no. It didn’t start Nov 15th, my friend, it started way before that.
Remember this quote?

Storage was always a factor when it came to dye colors in Guild Wars. The new system would cripple most inventories if we required characters to lug all the dyes around. Fear not! The dye hues themselves will be unlockable through various means, both in-game and out. Once you unlock the color, it will be available across your entire account, not just the individual character.
Guess that selling dye kits in the Gem Store was more important than keeping their word. :P
So what happened to play how you want to play?
My question exactly. Still waiting on when we’ll be able to craft ascended gear.
Come back in four months or so.

If you read what they wrote on the last couple of years and watch the interviews/presentations on youtube, you will see that they changed almost everything that was promised. thats why they went from a great (GW) to a mediocre (GW2) game. Thats what I call NC$oft effect.
This was one of the leading complaints back when ascended items were announced. Vertical progression discourages different play styles due to the time investment required to optimize one play style. Brace yourselves, more grinding incoming.
Holy crap the patch just dropped and so many people complaining. The laurel system is fine. You’re gonna really complain about something they DIDN’T HAVE TO ADD? They are fine as account-bound items. That means you can still do the daily on any character you want and still get the laurel.
I agree, daily/monthly achievements should be character bound and not account bound. This is alt unfriendly system.
You’re joking right?
……right?

Right but I’ve got 5 characters I want to gear. I’m going to have to spend 5 MONTHS at a competitive disadvantage to people in WvW because I can only get 1 laurel today. If you’ve only got one character, the new gear is fine. But it’s not fair to anyone who plays more than one level 80 b/c clendar-time and not game-time is the limiting feature.
I WANT to put in the extra work to get my amulets, but the existing game structure won’t LET me so I’m FORCED to play at a disadvantage on my alts.
Adding an additional laurel would be a good idea imo
Make WvW skills/equipment like sPvP but with free transmutes for PvE armor. Traditional MMO fans can grind PvE to their hearts content. PvP players can play a variety of builds without having to grind. Win-win?

They said they will add more ways of earning them in the future. I also have more than 1 80 but I’m not all that worried about farming for the ascended items.

Yes, we’re going to complain about something they didn’t have to add, especially if it’s not at the quality level we expect.
You seem to be confusing “free content” with “no right to complain about it”. These two things do not coincide, as the devs promised free content throughout the life of the game, so this is part of the product we bought: a game with a vast amount of content and the promise of future updates.
1 laurel per day across an entire account’s worth of characters really isn’t a well-thought-out implementation of this system. And the fix is relatively easy: completion of your daily grants all of your characters 1 laurel, not just the one who completes said daily. This means you don’t have to grind each character separately to obtain 5+ dailies per day.
Alternatively, the daily can be re-completed up to X times per day, where X is the number of characters the player has. So a person like me can obtain 6 laurels per day on my ranger if I’m willing to grind them out, or I can get 1 on each character individually. This may be even better as it allows players to choose how to distribute their laurels freely amongst their characters.

Nobody forces you to use different characters in WvW. And seriously a single ascended vs exotic item puts you in such a disadvantage? WvW is the most unbalanced PvP mode I have ever seen.
Not to mention the patch is live for only 6 hours. Other ways to obtain laurels and/or ascended amulet will or won’t be added over the next weeks.
You’re gonna really complain about something they DIDN’T HAVE TO ADD?
I think they’re complaining about the lost opportunity to implement something better; ie we’re now stuck with the laurel system no matter how bad it may be.

You seem to be missing the point. They never had to add any of this. The patch has been live now for around 7 hours give or take. They said they will add more ways to earn more laurels in the future.
I’m not confusing anything, thanks. As someone who did the daily and monthly every day / month anyway, anything extra as a bonus is.. extra. Un-needed, but appreciated.
And really with the X player thing? No thanks, I have 12 characters. I like being able to just play the game and get my dailies done through the course of the day and not have to worry about it again until tomorrow. On top of that I like being able to just do parts on 1 character, hop on another and be able to contribute to the rest.
ANet most definitely intends to add other ways to obtain Laurels (through achivements), otherwise the current rates in vendors would be ridiculous.
You all need to CHILL.
ANet is already urgently working on those sorts of things among many other issues like reward rebalancing, culling, spectator mode, etc..
This thread is just a result of players wanting everything at once without understand the big picture – That ANet’s staff are only human.
And after 2 months, AN released ascended amulets that should be obtainded in FotM
WHAT?
No. ANet has always been saying that they wanted Ascended gear accessible from sources OUTSIDE of FotM. You, sir, have your head in the sand.

I think they’re complaining about the lost opportunity to implement something better; ie we’re now stuck with the laurel system no matter how bad it may be.
That makes no sense. It’s something better automatically because it’s in addition to the original daily / monthly rewards. It’s something extra for just about the same amount of work. They also said they’re adding more ways to get more laurels in the future.
There’s no reason to complain about this. The alternative would be a coin & some karma for the daily.
If they made ascended items account bound on equip it would solve this problem. Then I could work on different ascended sets, one for tanking/support/glass cannon, etc. In this way you’d be able to have alts that you can play because sometimes i want to play what i want not want i have too.

Yes, and that’s an unknown number of months down the line from now. That’s quite a few laurels lost in the meantime because of the poor implementation of the system.
Allowing a player to run dailies more than once is something they could do now that would completely negate this very valid complaint, and wouldn’t affect you personally in the slightest.
You could just run it once, using as many characters as you like to finish, and be done after that. Precisely as you already do now. Whereas the players who WANT to run it 12 times could do so, also using whichever characters they please, and would earn the reward each time.
How does allowing other players to run the daily X times based on their character count in any way affect you?
Short answer: It doesn’t. So you’ll need a better reason for why this is a bad idea.
That makes no sense. It’s something better automatically because it’s in addition to the original daily / monthly rewards.
Just because it’s new to the game does not make it inherently better. The basis for your argument is flawed.
At least try to defend the system itself, but stop with this nonsense that any change to the game must be good simply because changes aren’t guaranteed.
It’s something extra for just about the same amount of work. They also said they’re adding more ways to get more laurels in the future.

That’s better.
Anyway, for some players it’s not “just about the same amount of work.” From my own perspective, I was able to accomplish the old dailies through 10m or so spent in EB covering 75% or so of the daily requirements, and the remaining 25% being completed in virtually any other PvE content.
Having a crafting requirement alone already throws me off, since I have no crafting skills trained, and am not interested in crafting at all.
But, because the daily achievements are now linked with an endgame reward currency, just skipping it really isn’t as attractive an option as it was under the old system.
Daily quests are fine when they’re offering more efficient acquisition of rewards than other content, but on a time limited basis (ie just coin and karma). They start becoming a problem when they have their own associated rewards.

Ok so once again. You’re given free stuff in addition to old rewards. Would you rather them not have laurels and more rewards at all?
My point exactly. Make up hypothetical unrealistic scenarios all you want to argue that “new things aren’t always good”, but the facts are there. You’re getting extra stuff for nothing and there’s no reason to complain this hard about something that’s 7 hours old.

You’re the only one insisting that it was this or nothing. How about a different system altogether, rather than just a rework of an already existing daily achievement system?

Except for the fact where you suddenly were able to speak for how everyone in the game wants to play. Myself and others that I know enjoy the fact that the daily and monthly achievements are combined efforts between all characters.
I know I’d personally be kitten off if suddenly my monthly was character-specific. I’d no longer do the monthly. It’s great now because it’s convenient for not having to grind stuff out. It can be done with ease over the month with a combined effort from all my characters.
So you two jokers who keep saying my opinion is flawed, it’s MY opinion. Stop your ___ing complaining already. You get something new in addition to the original rewards. STOP COMPLAINING
The facts: You now have extra incentive for doing the daily and monthly. Added rewards on to basically the same tasks. Extra goodies you can spend towards more goodies later.
The opinions of you crybabies: “WE NEED MOAR”
So in other words, you’re given free stuff which isn’t good enough for you and you want more. Gee, that’s something you never see on a forum.. rolls eyes
then your argument is simply that it’s subjective which isn’t REALLY an argument at all is it now?
Perhaps you might consider that instead of going off on a tangent about people being crybabies and whingers, if you want your subjective opinion respected and accepted, that starts by showing that respect to others and trying to understand…
But ya know… meh to that, lets just be borderline insulting instead good show!

I don’t like free kicks in the groin!
The difference is subjective I guess though :/
Oh god, no. I don’t want to have to do dailys multiple times a day >.<
They’re already going to add more ways to get ascended things. I don’t see the problem with introducing it part by part because at least I won’t have to wait several months for them to be finished with it completely. I can just get it slowly over time and prepare for it when it is fully complete.
Also, I like that the dailies are shared… I log on different characters to finish up the daily faster and more efficiently.
Oh god, no. I don’t want to have to do dailys multiple times a day >.<
You shouldn’t have to. But I shouldn’t have to take 5 months to gear all of my characters because of calendar-gating. Let ME repeat the dailies as many times as I have characters, or let me buy my amulets with the Pristine Fractal Relics I’ve already earned.
I like free stuff!
I don’t like free kicks in the groin!
You need to learn to be more grateful.

Yeah, well there’s more of us than there are of you, and we spend more money, so there’s no way they’ll cater to you.
Before I leave this thread for good, I think the account-wide system is great and allows for people to do the dailies and monthlies the way they want. Forcing people to do them all on 1 specific character (50 wvw kills, 100 events, and whatever else they do) is not ok and limits options players have.
There will be more options for laurels in the future. That’s all I really gotta say since nobody seems to listen anyway I’m not gonna type much more out I’ve said what I’m going to say.

For kicks in the groin?
Noooooooo thanks… and will someone please switch seats with me, I don’t like how this conversation has started ;P
(i’m of course joking with you, but you should be careful not to fall into those humor traps)
“grateful”
I’m grateful when I get what I ask for, what I pay for and what I expect. When I don’t get that and honestly it’s usually exclusively in relation to a purchase I’ve made, then I feel let down, conned and of course ungrateful.
Remind me again as to WHY that’s a bad idea, unless you work in development yourself and it means you have to deliver on ideals and promises.
Yeah, well there’s more of us than there are of you, and we spend more money, so there’s no way they’ll cater to you.
Classy…. as last nights knickers darlin.
Let’s try this again, since certain individuals are incapable of reading.
My suggestion is for a player to have the option of running the daily up to X times per day, where X is the number of characters they have.
This is not a character restriction. You may use as many characters as you like to complete the daily achievement, just as you do now. The only change would be that players who own more than one character would have the option of running the daily again if they so chose, to a maximum of X times.
So for example, I have 6 characters. That means I can run the daily once, using all six of my characters in the process if I wish. Then once I have finished it, I have the option of running it again up to 5 more times. This means that I could obtain a maximum of six laurels for my ranger per day, if I wanted, or I could spread them across all six of my characters however I wanted….in exchange for having to complete the daily achievements six times.
So those of you who want to run dailies once and be done with it can still do so. All we’re asking is the ability to redo them enough times that we could potentially equip all of our characters instead of just focusing on one. Our request in no way affects the way you play.
So why would you block it? We’re willing to put in the extra work to obtain those laurels, we’re not “asking for free stuff”. If you’re seriously going to argue that you are somehow affected by other people having the option of running dailies repeatedly, then I’m sorry, but you are not being reasonable at all.
(edited by critickitten.1498)
I shouldn’t be forced to wait 5 months to get my characters to BiS b/c there’s an artificial limit of one Laurel per day.
Why not? When have daily rewards ever been character bound?
There’s way too much over the top rage with this patch.

No one besides you is talking about restricting dailies to a single character. The altaholics in this thread want the ability to either purchase Amulets with Pristine Fractal Relics or have the ability to REPEAT dailies more than once in a day.
Please read before pitching a kittenstorm next time.
That’s a horrible idea. Now I’m seriously leaving this thread lol… just lol
Why? It doesn’t affect casuals in any way and it let’s the altaholics PUT IN THE EXTRA WORK to gear their characters in the way they want to. This game is supposed to be about playing how you want, when you want. This patch doesn’t let people with multiple 80s do that, and you’re turning a fairly constructive discussion into a trollfest.

Do you really NEED these special amulets that are probably no better than what you would get from other sources?
Don’t be so obsessive.
If you want me to answer the question at hand- no I dont think that dailies and monthlies should be character-bound. This is a slap in the face to those that maybe dont have the time to raise a million level 80s. Its only those with multiple 80s that are asking for this so that’ll tell you all you need to know.
The point that kittens in game should be hard to get, to appease the hard core players who think that everything in game are easy to get.
ascended – bridge the gap between exotics and legendaries right? that’s what you wanted, that’s what you’re getting.
Classy…. as last nights knickers darlin.
Both comments were sarcasm. I’m sure it came across much clearer in the first. I certainly hope it did.
I for one am sick of the apologists. Shouldn’t you be politicians and far too busy to play this game?
If a person delivers my meal at a restaurant incorrectly, I do not simply shrug it off and say to myself “Oh, next time they might get it right, I’ll pay anyway.” Likewise, when a patch removes the combat effectiveness of the entire playerbase in 99% of all areas (this is what dynamic leveling adjustments did, don’t sugar coat it), its unacceptable.
The sociopolitical atmosphere has melted away your ability to stand up for what you want. Its depressing and frankly a bit sickening to watch. I am used to nice treatment because of my background, but you deserve it too.
Seriously, if you bought a copy of gw2 and instead were given pong, would you provide the people involved excuses or go get your copy of gw2?
You had a different game advertised to you, and I don’t believe a sweeping nerf to your effectiveness in the near entirety of the game was in the advertisements.

They’re not HARD to get though, they’re just calendar-gated so you can only get them a defined rate. If I want to play multiple builds or multiple characters, I’m put at a disadvantage. I’d LIKE to be able to put in the extra work so that I can play in the manner I enjoy but the mechanics don’t allow that. I don’t want to impinge on anyone else’s playstyle or fun, the altaholics just want to be able to play ALL of our characters without being at a disadvantage because of a calendar-gate.
OP plays too much.
Dailies aren’t your way of gearing up anyway, why even concern yourself with it?Dailes ARE your way of gearing up, now. They’re the ONLY way to get ascended amulets.
Do you really NEED these special amulets that are probably no better than what you would get from other sources?
Don’t be so obsessive.
There’s a 5-7% difference in stats between available exotics, and ascended amulets. Additionally, an ascended amulet allows you to have an addition +10 Agony Resistance. That’s a BIG deal and I’d like to be able to put in the extra effort to gear out all of my character in these new pieces. The game doesn’t let me do that.
still that fact that it passes for an actual answer is of course worrying no doubt
Only because I don’t trust the mods to have a sense of humor, and the first comment was directed at you, which could be misconstrued as a personal attack (and quite probably will be).
The second comment was just that tired trope every casual and their mother seems to spout. Turns out they aren’t exactly loyal to games they only play casually, and they talk about spending alot more than they actually spend; the internet is rife with dead-ish MMOs that were supposedly so great according to their now phantom casual playerbase.

then it’s I who owes you the apology, and for them to infract you would be a complete and total overreaction as I’m not offended in the slightest and give you full permission to respond in that delightfully glib sarcastic humor all you like, god knows it won’t make things any worse anyways, and who knows might even incite a giggle or two.
I don’t have a lot of time to write my full thoughts on this, but this seems like a bad idea to me.
I have 6 characters, but only one of them is level 80. Can I do the daily six times or once? If 6 times, can I potentially earn unlimited laurels by starting new characters? If only once, what is the threshold my characters have to be at to be able to earn laurels?
It’s not as simple as it appears on the face of it, and there could be potential for abuse…
I agree they need to either cut the prices or make it character bound. It’s not hard to get Laurels just stupidly time consuming.
Making a legendary weapon can be tough but it can be completed in a short amount of time or a long amount of time.
For these new amulets its a very set path and no choice. You either take a long time or a very long time time. It also gives the players little incentive to do anything but their daily and monthly and nothing more.
Had this system been expanded and more ways to get laurels this would be fine. But currently it’s making us now have to go down a set path rather than us making our own.

Are Laurels account bound or character bound? When you get a laurel on one character, does everyone have access to that one or is it like Karma in that everyone has their own amount.

To answer your first point: You could run it six times.
To your second: No, you cannot earn “unlimited laurels” by deleting a character and making a new one. This is easily prevented by simply counting the number of occupied slots a player has at a given time and comparing it to the number of times they’ve finished their daily. You could, however, make more characters by buying more character slots, but this is potentially earning ANet more money so I’m not sure that’s actually a bad thing.
To your third: No threshold. A Lvl 1 player counts as an occupied character slot.
I’m curious how you believe that such a model can be abused and would like to hear your evidence on this.
