You need to salvage the first two stages and when they update them to ascended you have to use a ascended salvage kit. Thats most likely the reason stage I and II are exotic.
Ceana Mera | Mesmer
Indra Nebelklinge | Revenant
Assuming this is a new precursor. I don’t think they wanted it to be a viable method of acquiring ascended weapons. Yeah the first part is far more expensive than making normal ascended, but it removes the need to make an ascended originally. Though just like Miellyn said.
These parts need to be salvaged.
Another case in point – My actual reaction after finishing providing all the cores the artificier was asking for.
“Finally, after making 6 spiritwood (all that logging, all that buying) I can do something else.
Sees recipe from reward.
F#^%! Another 5 spiritwood.

Well I have to disagree to a point. The tier 3 collections are fun. The tier 1 collection is not bad in itself, but the 2nd tier.... I do belive this was the part they looked at tp and said this will make the process cost as much as current precursors so we don’t have to hear the QQ. I think they didn’t bother to consider the inflation on mats with so many people doing them, or consider ways to adjust that. Bottom line is either do it or don’t, but complaining isn’t going to change a thing. The underwater weapons are considerably less in cost, maybe play with them.

2/3 of those cost more to craft than to buy. The other one is about equal.
