I posted this in GW2 Discussion, but it’s worth repeating here.
As you may have noticed, we added a message to the in-game mails a while back that lets you know that a particular mail is coming from another player and not from ArenaNet.
Please heed that message.
Don’t be taken in by:
If we’re going to give you something, we don’t need your password. If your account is in jeopardy, you won’t be able to “validate” it through a link to some shady third-party site.
If in doubt about any in-game mail, report it using the in-game system or contact Support by clicking “Support” at the top of this page and submitting a request to check on what you were sent.
Best: delete such mails immediately and put the would-be account thieves out of business.
Hi
Recently myself and 2 of my other friends have been received this in-game mail (view attached screen capture).
Unfortunately one of them went to the link, and his game account is now hacked and getting tons of marketing spam to his mobile phone.
As of last week, when he got hacked, could not get support from any of the Arena Channels.
With regards
Your friend should change the passwords on his Game Account and email account. If he does not receive a response from the CS Team, he should contact them using a new, unique email account.
Your friend can read the Stickies above for information, as well as the articles in the Knowledge Base. Top of Page – Support.
Good luck.
Too late. Damage done.
Problem is, arena should flag all these string that remotely resemble a scam. If it walks like a duck, quack like a duck, looks like a duck. it is a duck.
Arena be smart and tighten the bolts (start with the gold selling). There are more junk on the internet than legit info due to anonymous nature of a transaction.
Just like the scam products they put on “As Seen on TV”, they only need to scam a small fraction of the viewers through mass media. Same goes to GW2 chat broadcast, but on the TV we get the options not to switch on to that channel. We cannot completely block whispers from random accounts, or map shouts.
Tighten all these gold sellings, kick them out and perma ban them. These guys are not playing the game. they are like a virus and bacteria that lives off a host (in this case GuildWars2) and their food is the 100% legit community.

Again, your friend can discuss the issue with the CS Team, and request an Account Restoration. And make sure he is more prudent in the future.
Good luck.
Title of the Email is “Please Help Us”, it looks identical to the one sent out 2 weeks ago by anet, green star and all. screen shot shows the hack email sent to me 5days ago and u can see the email u sent 3 emails under with same title. my friend in real life Steve Ashley Jr. (Silverthe Wise Wolf) in the game and several other of my guild mates in KARMA on the SBI server have been hacked and their account was suspended by ANET after taking the “letter” and viewing the fake content. I was lucky enough to not care about getting a duplicate email with the same item i already have so i disregarded it and this is undeletable….PLEASE DELETE this email from MY account so I don’t get hacked too.
I hope others see this and do not open this item in the email from 5 days ago. (1-1-2015)
I am sure the duplicate Orphan letter sent out to many players has nothing to do with any compromised accounts. You can safely destroy the letter, and its contents, should you so desire.
Good luck.
Yep got one too. Deleted it but I hope Briar can get his account unhacked or something, grouped with him many times in wvw.

well if you say so then i guess its all just a huge coincidence that several of my guildies all got this email opened it and are now banned from the game
but since u said it was ok i will open it…no thanks, id prefer anet recall the mail.
As you wish, though it’s not going to happen. I, and my Guildies opened the mail, retrieved the contents and disposed of both. No one’s account was compromised. You can’t actually think an in-game mail from ArenaNet would cause a compromise.
Your Guild might investigate their website’s security, if the Guild happens to have one.
Good luck.
Got a phishing e-mail ingame recently. Here is info
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/GW2-Phishing-Scam/first#post4677555
And I’ll add my name to the list of people that have got this email as well… this time from GM Rusticsheep… I hope his virtual world is attacked by the viruses of 1000 supercomputers
I just got the same message about needing to remove restrictions within 72 hours. Mine came from pandasinpajamas. A quick google search brought me to pandasinpajamas.6784, who apparently hasn’t posted on here in a year or so. I’m sorry people are losing their accounts to these bots.
Update: Please PLEASE look for the message at the bottom of any in-game mails. If it says “This message was sent by another player. It was not sent by the Guild Wars 2 Team” then you know it’s not from us.
If you are worried, submit a support ticket so CS can review it with you.

WEll like in real world most of us learn from our mistakes not success.
Live and learn.

Ok, so I 100% totally, completely know you are being endlessly polite, avoiding anything that might even be misinterpreted as impatient, remaining ever the gracious host you always are…
But this still made me chuckle. Just saying. Cuz you can’t.
The sad thing is that people are still falling for these types of scams even WITH the message at the bottom..
I received this and almost got tricked… ^^;
I realized something was wrong as soon as I came to “Note: bla bla bla”.
But I have already manually typed out the URL…
I didn’t do the ‘verification’ after that though, so I guess I am safe?
I immediately changed my password, reported that mail via the “!” for scamming, and deleted the mail…
Hopefully I am fine. =’(
Be careful everybody!
log in today and was greeted by this mail which is kinda funny because she said my acc will be terminated after 72 hrs and i haven’t log in for 6 days .. anyways, what category should i report it? scamming or gold seller? and when you say review chat log, does that mean also mail log? because i don’t want to get banned for something i report :/ and why there is no in game options to attach screenshot for the proof?
Hi,
I got the same type of e-mail in-game. I’m not the first one, in my guild, to get this mail and we notice it came from a different name or account.
Jessy
Yes, that person posted on the forums about having his account stolen by those of nefarious character. Almost all those breaking the ToS have usurped others’ accounts just for that purpose. What was your account used for while you no longer had control of it? We can not really tell if an account has been stolen, or not, when we see it engaged in breaking the ToS.
Do please remove your accusation, as it is not fair to accuse others when you do not know all the facts.
Good luck.

a Few minutes ago I’ve recieved a in-game mail saying that my account will be shut down etc. I’ve attached the screenshot. Dangerous and annoying thing I must admit. its good that now we have a note saying that its not from Anet.
and btw i maybe need to change my email adress, where is safe forum i can ask somebody to do this? if its possible? .)

You can contact the CS Team and ask for assistance with changing the email associated with your game account. Top/Bottom – Support – Submit a Request
Good luck.
got the same mail,
i reported it, deleted the mail and changed my password,
i didn’t click any link
i also removed all my credit card detail and such,,,,
what else should i do?;
Got message today as well, I was a bit startled when I read it but since i did not break any rules or had any abnormal logins (only loging in from different pcs in my home network
which isn’t forbidden) or transactions that they speak of I was a bit susîcious about the whole thing.
I wanted to post a thread here reporting the person who send me the mail but then I saw this post. I shall be reporting the wannabee-hacker ingame and I have attached proof of his attempt (the mail he send me) in attachment.
Arenanet please shut down these ****** from ruining the game for us legit players.
I was smart enough not to fall for their trap but many other (maybe younger/more naive) players might fall for it and lose their account or stuff to some ****** who takes pleasure in ruining other people’s fun and hard work…

- Report it. (Click the ! within the in-game mail)
- Delete it.
- Do not click links.
- Do not respond.
- Do not allow yourself to get concerned.
If you are worried, submit a support ticket so CS can review it with you.
I must admit I am having to practise some restrain from replying on the mail saying they’re pathetic and they’ve been reported for hacking/scamming.
I won’t reply back tho as I know its pointless because they probably hacked the account they did it with to?
Indeed….so listing the poor person’s Display Name/character name who had their account compromised is not fair. That is like adding salt to the wound. I’m sure anyone who has their account compromised would rather not see their account bandied about the forums where others would assume that Display Name was forever up to no good.

I have received 5 of these types of phishing emails in the past 6 days. When I click the exclamation to report it, what category do I choose? Scamming?
Botting is a good choice. But, scamming will do, I’m sure.
Hello together,
i got mine today.
The best thing about it is, that i am from germany, but have my game client in english. Even though i got a german scam mail. I instantly knew that it is scam, because the translation is so bad, that it hurts. I got i attached as screenshot, so the support can see it (especially the account it came from)
hello
you pretty quickly responded to this problem, but no one says what about those who are still caught the trick scam. in our guild at least one person has transferred its personal data to thieves…

Then, that person should read all the articles on Account Security found in the Knowledge Base, and follow the instructions. Then, contact the CS Team and let them know what he/she has done.
Top/Bottom of Page – Support – Search (Account Security)
Good luck.
I got this mail through the game
Think its fishing mail because it was send by another player
well will take the nessecary steps
delete the mail
Got this from in-game mail from another player (as stated at the bottom of the email. Looks like a new phishing attempt. Reported it as scamming attempt.
My friend got that mail 2 days ago and he actually went to the link because he thought it was real. The hacker add a mobile authenticator to his account which cause him to get kicked from the server and unable to login since he doesnt have the mobile authenticator.
After a day, he got his account back, but all his characters are naked, with no gold, no gear and empty bank, even the ascended and legendary gear are gone. I think the hacker has sold it all and sent it to another account and now his account got banned for real money transaction.
He already submit a ticket, still no reply thought, but i just wondering is there any chance his account can be restored back to when he wasnt hacked ?
Support usually provides one account restore for accounts that have been hacked. So yes your friend will most likely qualify for an account restore.

Thank you, im glad he can return to this game again. I was sad when i find out he got hacked and accused for real money transaction. i thought it was true, until i saw these thread.
Happened to me as well today. I am currently concerned if they would do anything to my account.
