And in the wake of such tragedies events are often rescheduled or canceled.

So they should simply have to potentially scrap every single piece of created content, because at the time they plan to release it something have happened in the world that can be seen as connected to it?

That will never work out.

The disclaimer about not being offensive goes both ways. As another poster stated: they haven’t even identified all the bodies yet. I would have scrapped the aprilfools joke cause it was just a little too close to a “recent tragedy” still playing out on world news….

HAHA enough with they hyperbole and making stuff up. If it gave you a headache after a few minutes you need to see a doctor. Poor customer service? What? Where does this include customer service? Again, if you don’t like it that is fair but don’t get all off the wall to try to make your point.

VERY insensitive of you. Maybe the person actually DOES have a medical condition and you send them to the doctor?

If they do have a medical condition then indeed they should see a doctor. That said I have yet to hear of a condition where viewing an in game character with their arms out making air plane noises causes medical distress. Like I said, hyperbole and the use of such does not help the person’s complaint.

So it’s necessary for you to try and align someone’s view more with your own? Or is this just a display of your character? If you don’t agree, that’s your right, but who are you to try and tell people how to feel, or how to voice their concerns. Go give advice somewhere it’s wanted.

Bought the game last night and played for 15 minutes… This company really knows how to make a first impression on a new customer. Glad I spend more time troubleshooting my PC/Software for a random bug than playing the game before I found this post.

kittening bravo to the idiot that approved this as a forced global setting in their software.

It is a one day joke. Go to bed, do some stuff for a day. Come back and it will be the game you were looking for. Well maybe not if you get so bent out of shape over a one day transformation. You didn’t even describe how this affected your game play.

Or you could spend more time camping this thread telling people how and when to enjoy their game, if we’re on the topic of ‘gainful activities.’

So are you camping this thread too? Good grief. It is a 24 hour thing, If people want to rage then let them. I’m still going to call them out for it. This thread is almost a duplicate of the bobble head prank last year. People talking about how this ruined the game, they will never buy gems again, they are physically sick and all the other hyperbole that went with it.

It get’s old.

But what if they decide to release the expansion on August 25th.
Then on August 24th some country decides to invade another country, and killing thousands of people and soldiers.
Should ArenaNet scrap their plans for the expansion then, just because the whole: “Thousands of people got massacred by Mordremoth” could be seen as a connection to “Thousands of people die in newly started war”?

As I have said: Tragedies happens every single day. The fact that people don’t care about them because they aren’t as well-published as this one, doesn’t really matter. Things happens, and if they should take all of those things into consideration at all times they will never be able to release anything.

wow if you dont see the obvious connection between this and jesus on the cross or that a lot of people laughed and then had sad thoughts about dead people on crashed airplanes, because of recent events, i find you blind and unempathetic.

No, I don’t see the obvious connection. For one this April Fools prank has probably been in development well before the Germanwings tragedy. I seriously doubt Anet would plan such a thing to make light of such an unfortunate event. It makes no sense. They are smarter than that. If you choose to make the connection between characters pretending to fly and a current event, well that’s on you.

Also I don’t see an obvious connection with Jesus. Running around with arms out is in no way symbolic of Jesus on the cross. When I was a kid I used to run around like that. You know pretending to fly.

As I have said many times in this thread, some people don’t like the visuals this prank presents. So, instead of just letting it go they are using terms like, “offended”, ’"insulted", “gives me headaches” to try to make their point.

Ok, for those without empathy…

I would have appreciated the time spent on this “March 31st” joke to have been spent fixing some of the kitten-ton of bugs that remain broken. Heaven forbid Rangers get the class mechanic of being able to set pets to Avoid combat/Attack fixed after two weeks of being broken, or the GWAMM situation resolved, or the other 2 dozen bugs/issues to be given some attention. -.-

shrugs You can say and think what you like, but IMO it looks callous in the wake of a recent tragedy, and on a more personal note I didn’t buy the game for their AF day jokes. Its an epic game and I praise the developers for their accomplishment but don’t expect me to be happy with having my play hijacked for a day or even for a minute with the kind of cash I sling at it….

Well Options are always a nice thing. I am sure plenty of people here are not posting to have an option added right away ( since that would take longer than the event lasts) but they do so in order to have options for the next year’s April fool’s day and so on. Not everyone enjoys the same things, and that was pointed out with last year’s bobbleheads. Forums are, a place for players to share their opinions after all , and I don’t see why everyone should be forced to participate in the April’s fool’s day. People have different schedules and different ways to perceive “fun” Did you like the joke? perfect , enjoy it to your heart’s content! No need to try and force everyone to see things your way though. I know Anet tends to do that since gw1 , every year on that day ( and I happen to appreciate their effort) , but I admit I disliked last year’s bobbleheads and this year’s prank isn’t really my shtick…. thus, options is the way to go for everyone to stay happy.

Well to be honest there are a lot of things in game that can invoke sad thoughts if you apply them to real life. Is it cool to kill someone in PvP and watch them die? That might invoke sad thoughts. People have been killed recently by being stabbed with sharp weapons and it makes the news. So that could invoke sad thoughts. If woman is stabbed to death and it makes the new does that mean Anet should disable the ability to use sharp weapons against female characters?

Like I said, I am willing to bet the current April Fools effect was in development well before the Germanwings tragedy. It isn’t like Anet can just click a button and it creates the current visuals. Trust me, what happened with Germanwings is very sad. I hate when things like that happen. I feel sad for all the family members this affected and those that lost their lives. However I think you are reading way too much into it.

If you think Anet made this April Fools joke based on the tragedy you are most likely very very wrong. It would make no sense and would be a horrible PR move.

I bet if the unfortunate airline crash had been from say a Kenya airline you would not have a complaint about the April Fools joke.

The flickering effect they are using to mimmick old movies was well known for causing headaches when it was common, decades ago. Learning a bit of History is a good thing, especially when trying to mock other people’s opinions.

What flickering effect? I didn’t see it when I was in game. I spent a good 20 minutes running around and the only thing I noticed was my character’s arms were out and made airplane noises. Also I’d like to see you provide sources from peer reviewed journals that prove what you are saying.

Just to point out, there definitely is a flickering effect, combined with a sepia tone, to give it an old-time movie effect. However, it can be eliminated by turning off post processing in the options.

If it’s the same as last year a way to fix it is to move your computer’s clock back to 31/03 or up to 02/04.

Tried that – didn’t work. :/

Now the date above your post says “about a day ago” though, so I did manage to “achieve” that. ><

Apparently, it’s vitally important that we experience this for a full day, even though it was only fun for about 10 mins and April Fools jokes are supposed to end at noon, at the latest, anyway.

Read a book? Watch something on Netflix? Play a different game?

Not really the point, is it?

Obviously, we can do something else, but why would a company want us to do that?

The point is, while April Fools jokes are fun, not many people consider them fun if one of them lasts a full 24 hours.

Pretty sure the WoW ones are either a removable buff, or only last a little while?

Can’t really remember TBH, but I’m sure they didn’t last a whole day, whether you liked it, or not.

The only upside is that I’m virtually lag-free in DR, even at maximum graphics, because there is virtually no one online anymore.

Proving that the lag problem is at ANet’s end – not at ours and not at “the middle men’s”.

So, thanks for wasting an hour of my time installing ReduceTheLag (which, not surprisingly, did nothing to help).

Buy some new/more servers, please, ANet.

lol! I have one computer with the setting on high and got the full flickery, sepia effect. Another computer had the setting on low, so there was full color but a subtle flicker. Changing the setting to None eliminates the flicker and has it in full color.

If you are in this thread and you are trying to debate that we don’t need an option to turn off stunts like this April Fools prank… please tell me why you are adverse to an extra option that allows everyone the ability to play the game as it was presented when someone bought it? I think you’ll have to go a long way to convince me there is a good reason not to have the option.

I’m not offended by the prank, I am offended that it’s going to last 24 hours. No one with a clue can possibly find it interesting, funny, and ‘neat’ for 24 hours. I have nothing against you if you are enjoying the prank, just give the MANY who find it annoying after a few minutes, the option to turn it off. To argue against such a feature, well, it makes you look like a troll frankly.
